hi, I am Brazilian, so my English is bad...
My problem starts when my volume buttons no longer work (hardware problem), and must use cwm to exchange kernel / rom ...
until then thought it would be impossible to enter the recovery mode, but then met the ADB, and the command "adb reboot recovery" could go into recovery mode ...
but is only possible to navigate using the volume buttons, with the exceptions touch versions of cwm (and from what I saw in the pictures tqrp also allows touch)
does anyone know how can I do?
and finally, if anyone can help me, I will be grateful Many Voices

Flash TWRP instead. It's way better, and navigation is done via touch screen and not via volume buttons (which I hate using even when they are functional).
And you can boot to recovery mode if you enable advanced reboot menu. There are many ways to do so, depending on your ROM. I have GravityBox, so it's enabled via one of the options there.

did not know this option in gravitybox, but have found it there
thanks

Dear guys,
I have a t-mobile g2 device and as I wanted to apply update.zip is saw that I need a keyboard in the menu to select the option because it doesnt work with trackball.
There are 3 options:
reboot (Home +back)->I can select it since I have that 2 button, but it doesnt work with trackball
apply cdcard:update.zip [alt+S]
wipe data / factory reset[alt+m]
There is also a text down"e: cant open /cache/recovery/command/ but I dont think it matters
Could you help me on how to select it with no alt+s button?
normally it works with trackball. make sure you dont touch the screen while trying to select an option. if it still dont work try another recovery...

anyway there is no touchscreen support in recovery mode (AFAIK)
Some of the buttons move the cursor too, possibly volume down goes down but i cant remember. I use the trackball.
I can move the cursor but the trackball "enter" doesnt work.
"Enter" is the Home button?
no:S i tried every combination ..
i want to do this too! any ideas?
Ohhh god !!!
u can move selection by trackball and press it to enter. NOTHING ELSE my dear friend.
Use volume up and down to move up and down and home to select.
If these don't work your recovery is broken so flash it again using method described in the AmonRA recovery topic.

Tried the volume buttons?
It sounds like you ain't added the recovery ROM????? Your using the stock one provided by HTC/T-Mobile.. or I could be wrong.. probably flash again as already suggested
I think that you are using the g1's recovery so it's for the dream which have a keyboard..
I can say i am a little disappointed about the phone, because a lot of app are crashing, i can't see google docs on it and so one.
are there any custom Roms for this phone? or 2.2.1 ?
rooting is soo easy.. i rooted with One click Root...also i did Un-root because i had to send it to guaranty because of the screen
another disappointing problem is the battery...its lasting around 1-1.5 days, and thats not cool
it is a good phone but i believe it has lots of bugs in the OS.
i was able to root my galaxy 551, however rooting thru one click root doesn't install any recovery. how do you install a recovery so i can flash the zip files.
i also have the htc wildfire and have rooted it and flashed different custom roms, however rooting and flashing the galaxy 551 is an altogether different procedure. could someone make a guide for this? thanks
far as i read on internet there is a app called ODIN...and you can use it. i coudnt try it because i sent my phone to service because of the display.
also...can you enter google docs from your 551? my browser is crashing every time...
i haven't tried the phone's browser yet, its been with me for only a day. i installed rom manager and clockwork mod recovery. however, i can't seem to start recovery (when the phone is off). in htc, you press volume down and power. In samsung galaxy 551 what buttons need to be pressed aside from power button to go to recovery mode? i tried the home button, back button, and volume buttons but nothing seems to work.
try volume down + home + power ...
i cant try since my phone is gone to service
try and tell me the result
also can you please try to enter docs.google.com and tell me if its working on ur phone....thanks
update: you can install the Android SDK, and after that you can use adb...when phone is connected to pc and and debugging is on:
adb reboot recovery
the combo of volume down + home+ power didn't work, the only way i can go to recovery is to go through rom manager
what do you mean "through rom manager"?
did you try adb ?
How Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy 551.
When In ROM MANAGER,
I click on Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery option, I don't see Samsung Galaxy 551 in phone model list.
Please suggest.

there is a selection on rom manager to reboot on recovery, i also tried to backup using rom manager, unfortunately it didn't work and my phone started in recovery mode. I also couldn't install the right clockwork mod recovery because galaxy 551 doesn't show in the device choices
Is there any way to backup current rom of Samsung galaxy 551?
So that, I can take up a risk of installing new rom.
Well still I dont know whether this Samsung galaxy 551 supports new rom installation or not...
If any one has done already done before then pls let us ppl kno .
Thanks in advance

Try Volume down, the center button and power button
people...install busybox...
i can't create a tutorial yet, because my 551 is still in service (screen problems), and far as i find out we can enter recovery mode with busybox
update: busybox can be installed if you root your phone using SuperOneClick Root 1.6.5 or higher, and if you have your phone rooted, but no busybox, just install Titanium Backup, and it will install it automatically

Hello,
I managed to flash my galaxy 551 with one of firmware available at samfirmware dot com.
The keys are "q" for a qwerty keyboard or "a" for an azerty keyboard (the first letter of the physical keyboard) + power for boot in download mode.
But the physical keyboard is now in qwerty : I'm interested in azerty.kcm.bin file + *.kl from an FR rom.
Thank's in advance and sorry for my bad English : /

live wallpaper
guys anybody how to enable live wallpaper in 551 i used terminal emulator but it sys busy box permission denied any solution for this please help me
Hi, found lots of useful stuff reading the thread. Does anyone know how to boot into recovery mode? the vol.down+home+power didn't work for me... or I'm doing it wrong :S Has anyone booted into recovery succesfully?
UPDATE: for the record I have the GT-I5510L model (L is for Latin I think) rooted using SuperOneClick 1.7 (which I think installs busybox in the process).
I found out that the "Q" key + Power combination during power-up takes you to Download mode, and so far the only way I found to enter Recovery mode is through "terminal emulator" executing:
Code:
#su
#boot recovery
After that the phone reboots and enters Recovery mode.
To navigate in Recovery mode use the following physical keys:
Left and Right arrow to move Up and Down the menu options (weird, right?)
Shift key (the one on the left above the red "Alt" key) to select the highlighted option.
The three button method doesnt work b/c my home button is dead. Is there anyway to enter recovery mode from a pc?
I have cwm installed, rooted, everything...stuck while booting up after I flashed a mod, can't enter recovery mode without home button

Plugging into your computer and typing "adb reboot recovery" should work. Also, I think there are apps on the market that can reboot the phone to recovery.
Do you have the CWM manager app? That also has an option to reboot to recovery.

That works but I think you have to load the recovery into memory first...
I soft bricked an LG p506 about a month ago and while looking for a way to do the same thing I found the instructions, a quick google search should put you in the right direction
A sure thing is to boot to download mode with USB jig, then flash a completely new rom with Odin.
OP, I noticed you have a couple posts regarding being on AT&T's network. Are you sure you have an i9100, and not an AT&T variant, which is the SGH-I777? Or if you DO have an i9100, that you didn't flash a firmware meant for the SGH-I777? The most common reason I've seen for a non-functioning home button is flashing the wrong firmware.

There is no such thing as a "soft brick" , Your device is either bricked or it isnt. The term "brick" is used far too loosely nowadays.
In some custom roms you can have a "reboot to recovery" option in the power menu (when you press the home button for 2 seconds or so)
Or, you can download an android terminal emulator and type "reboot recovery" into it (after giving it superuser permissions by typing in "su").
yeah i have an i9100. The problem is i went swimming with it a couple weeks back, and the home button (and mic + earset) doesnt work anymore. I was running checkRom on it and was flashing a mod thru the kitchen app, and now when it boots it says phone has stopped working and won't let me get past that.
So i cant use any soft buttons to get into recovery. I cant use the three button method. and I've tried the adb reboot recovery, wont work.
I can get into download mode though, so is my only option is to flash a rom via odin and hope that fc gets fixed?

Did you try using a terminal emulator on the phone itself? Just "reboot recovery", not "adb reboot recovery". (Remember you have to give the app SU permissions first, if it doesn't request them on its own type in "su" and the do the "reboot recovery" command)
both cwm and rommanager have an option to do this from inside the app, just download one of the apps from market
Lol, it seems nobody want to understand that you cannot boot the phone and use an application from market....
I have the same problem... But I found that you can buy the three buttons, it's about 20€, but you need to open the phone. You found a lot of tutorial on the web to do this.
Hope this help

But where should I typ "adb reboot recovery"? Can you be more specific?
TIA (Thanks In Advance)
As your phone is rooted it is very easy to get to recovery. Load Google Play and go to the app store and download "Quick Boot" and install. Run Quick Boot and it will give you an option to reboot the phone to recovery.
Great for stock phones with root.

Hi,
After installing new Kitkat on my P710, command (in terminal) 'reboot recovery' no longer works-only message:no such tool. Apps from market same don't reboot device in recovery. Only way to reach recovery is to turn off device, and press key combination, or with pc through adb command. I try to start it from system/bin (where IS reboot command) but with 'no such tool' result. Same is for simple 'reboot' from terminal.
Is someone have solution for this issue/bug?
Any advice is welcome.
Sorry for my english.

Don't know if it'll help you (I haven't installed KK on my P714 yet, due to the problems with Amiga's link), but the way I reach recovery menu in JB is using the advanced power menu, enabled from GravityBox Xposed module. You should try it if you are rooted (and besides, GravityBox is the best module I know for tweaking your device). Reason I think there's a slim chance it'll work is the fact that unlike other apps, GB/Xposed are considered to be part of the kernel, so they may work in a different way comparing to other apps. Give it a shot.
Usage: Install Xposed framework and then install GravityBox for KK module, There, from Power Tweaks menu, enable Advanced Reboot Menu. After that you should get the reboot to recovery option.

Yes, gravity box's power menu works properly, but this app is to heavy for this simple feature,
I want to know why normal command dont work.
Thanks anyway.

No problem. As I said before, GB can be used for many other tweaks, and the power menu is just one of them. I wouldn't call it heavy either, as it's not a regular app, but something that's more blended with the kernel.
As for your question, I guess this is yet another diversion from the standard ROMs from LG...
Hi everyone,
As I have said in the title, I want to access to the bootloader mode, in order to flash my custom boot image. However, the tablet turns off when I try it with adb/fastboot tool
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
.
I tried also to access it from the stock recovery, and I have the same result. I tried to do it with volume and power buttons by different ways, and I couldn't do more than accessing the said recovery, or a chinese recovery with blue letters. I looked at translations for this menu, and there aren't the expected option either.
If someone has any advice for me to fix this problem, it would be welcome.
Thanks
Hello,
I have this tablet too and I have exactly the same problem. I want to see a custom ROM on Oreo but there is nothing. I tried to flash a custom recovery but it was a wrong recovery... And when I tried the other volume button I have a Chinese menu.
Sorry if my English is bad, I am French.

The Chinese menu is a factory menu ( not recovery ) that comes up when you use the power+vol-up buttons together. Use the vol-down button alone to get into recovery menu.
To flash the stock ROM, you don't need to use adb/flashroot; put the zip file on an empty microSD card, and use the relevant recovery option to flash from that.
