The phone says its wireless N able but I can't seem to get it to see my wireless N network over 5GHz. It sees my wireless G network over 2.4GHz fine but not wireless N over 5GHz evidently.
Anyone gotten theirs to connect to N networks? If so what were your configs for channel, and all that if you mind me asking?
I haven't had any issue connecting to wireless n. I'm connected at home, girlfriends and work. My router is channel 11, gf is channel 6. I don't know about work.

If your on channel 11 then your only on 2.5GHz not 5GHz. do me a favor and while your connected on your Evo3D go into wireless settings and click on the network that your connected to and tell me the speed it shows. Willing to bet its only 65Mbps, which is because your on 2.5GHz and not 5GHz.

There is a difference between A/N and B/N.
B/N is 150Mbs + and has better penetration than A/N. You're asking the wrong question.
Yes, you can connect to a B/G/N network. No you cannot connect to a 5.0GHz anything network.

So this has a single antennae then correct just like the Evo4G did which is why it couldn't connect to 5.0GHz networks?
j/w b/c I can't get past 65Mbps on the connection while I thought the 3D had a better wireless card in it than the 4G. Its not my router as I get boost up to 130Mbps on my laptop connected to same SSID at times.
Just a bummer thought we were getting a true wireless N capable phone.
This makes me wonder even more why they took out N capability in the Evo4G update and never added N to the spec sheet.
A single antenna is not what makes it 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. The single antenna basically limits it to Wireless N, 150Mbps vs 300Mbps. The 5GHz is just the frequency that it travels over, and most mobile devices won't do 5Ghz, and will only have a single antenna.

So your able to connect over 2.4GHz freq and your evo3d shows its connected at 150Mbps??
I have a top of line netgear full dual band router here so I know its not that, esp seeing as my pc connects at 150Mbps over the 2.4GHz band. I'm checking this by just clicking on the SSID after connected on the Evo3D, or checking Status on my PC's connection.
Dont get why I'm always showing 65Mbps on the Evo3D. Would of thought that since they are publishing that they support Wireless N as opposed to the Evo4G who only had 1 antennae, that I would connect at higher speed than the Evo4G. did

There's nothing more misleading than the whole "link speed". I've never seen an actual 150Mbs off of my A/N "300Mbs" connection, and that's with the laptop sitting 4ft from the router. The phone can't utilize anywhere near that bandwidth, and I'm willing to bet that even if your internet is several MB/s, you won't actually find a website to give you more than 1.2MB/s. Microsoft is one of the few that I know of that can really dish the data out.....but how often are you downloading massive updates?

Not concerned with internet speed and more so looking at my internal network speeds for file transfers and such.

You'll probably find that the WiFi and BlueTooth antenna are shared....and if a phone has an FM rx, it too will use that antenna. Not likely to find a cellular with dual WLAN antennas.....they're not really built to be a dedicated WIFI anything.
If you're concerned about xfer rates on the phone, yank the SD card out and put it in a reader. That's the fastest way to get data to the phone, followed by hooking up the phone via USB. The phone has no use for WLAN data rates above 15Mb/s. If you're transferring movie files, use the USB connection method. Outside of that, don't sweat it. I honestly couldn't see someone moving GBs worth of data on a constant basis with the phone.....and if you are, sounds like you should look at something with larger storage like a Tablet PC.

I hear ya im aware of outside options. I just thought that since this phone is supporting wireless N fully then the link speeds would be able to be higher than the link speed on the 4G.
But again like i said before i really need to get down to it and look at the documentation of the chips used on the 4G and 3D to see what differences there are.

NVM makes sense now. both phones have the same Broadcom chip inside. the Broadcom BCM4329.
BUT whats odd is that from what i read that chip only supports bluetooth 2.1 while we supposedly have 3.0 on this phone. Also interesting is the chip supports 5GHz dual band. here
I don't think my 3D has connected to 5GHz on my home network. I have a dual-band N router, and I have 5GHz as the primary, so my laptop and media player connect to that immediately.
I only noticed my 3D on the 2.4GHz part of my network. I haven't tried manually connecting it to the 5GHz band, but if it could, I would have assumed that it would automatically.

Well, when it comes to "N", there are several factors that come into play. One, the wireless chip MAY be able to support the A frequencies, you're talking about additional code to make it work with rest of the phone. Antenna isn't an issue since 2.4 is half of 5.0. A 1/2 wavelength 2.4GHz antenna, is about a full length 5GHz antenna if memory serves me correctly (that and the 36hrs I've been up). Another thing that comes into play as far as the bandwidth is concerned is channel width. There is also MIMO too....but the phones will be basic of basic. The fact that N support is enabled is surprising, but it's most likely just a selling point. It supports the most basic N, with the smallest channel width, and clearly MIMO isn't supported. Routers can be configured to B or G or N only, sometimes combos of them as well. I use DDWRT on my routers and it allows virtually everything to be manipulated. Either way though, there is a lot of features to cram into the small area that is the cellphone, and if you ever take a look at a full featured ABGN mini pci-e WLAN card, you will see that there is still a decent size to it when all the features are present.

BGN Refers to a 2.4GHZ spectrum capable of running the N packets.
ABG Refers to a 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ spectrum capable of running the B/G packets.
ABGN Refers to a 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ spectrum capable of running BGN packets.
It's retarded how they label it. LOL but you can run N on 2.4 spectrum or 5GHZ spectrum.

Actually, abg means that it can use the 802.11a, 802.11b, or the 802.11g standard, and abgn adds 802.11n. 802.11A is a very different standard than N, and is incompatible with the others, whereas B, G, and N are forwards and backwards compatible, except for N going over a 5Ghz signal, which still isn't compatible with A.
All that said, I'm pretty sure that this phone will only support 802.11n over 2.4GHz at 150Mbps. I don't have the phone yet, but I'm basing this off the fact that nearly all portable devices that use 802.11n are that way. At least I haven't seen one that is capable of either using 5GHz, or 300Mbps.

I have the exact same issue. My laptop sees my 5ghz ssid, but my MT4G doesn't. The weird thing is, I've flashed several ROMS to my phone, and none see it. I did however, flash the stock ROM (froyo 2.2.1) today for the sh*ts and giggles of it, and it saw the N ssid! WTF.
I've got an ActionTec dsl modem/router I've noticed with this phone my speeds are about 1/3 of the wired connection speeds. My Photon, Optimus and 4 different tablets are fine and get full speed.
I've tried all 11 channels in the wireless settings of the router but can't seem to get any faster than about 400k.
I've set the phone to 2.5ghz only, and it's fine on other networks.
Anyone have any ideas?

Bumping to put what I feel the problem is:
I unchecked "Best Wifi Performance" under advanced wifi settings and my issue seems to have gone away.
I am not sure what that particular setting changes, but obviously my router does not like it at all.
After unchecking that and rebooting the phone, I am now getting full wifi speeds.

I have a Netgear R6300 capable of AC wifi but my phone wont connect to the internet when its on the 5ghz network. It works fine on the 2.5ghz but the other it connects but no internet.
I tried giving it a reserved ip and looking at the settings on my router but nothing is popping out at me?
Anyone have any ideas?

Check the Advanced Wi-Fi settings. Check Freq Band and make sure it is not set to 2.4 GHz only. Also try turning on "Best Wi-Fi Performance" and see if that helps.
Mine connects to my 5GHz network with no problems at all.

What router do you have? Also what kind of connection speed are you getting?
I checked freq and it was on auto, tried just 5ghz, also tried Best wifi but it still cant connect to the internet. I gets a connection with the router according to the phone but my 6300 doesnt show it as a connected device.
no problem here i can connect to my 5Ghz network with my a/n capable Time Capsule router. speeds are 55..27 Mbps download / 35.95 Mbps upload. my One wifi settings are set to Auto (vs. setting to 2.5 or 5 Ghz).
I have a Netgear WNDR4500. Speeds are 40 Mbps down and 28 Mbps up. That is with the router 2 floors above me in my house. My settings are also set to "Auto" as well. I connected immediately when I got home on Thursday after getting the device. I have had no problems at all with WiFi. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.

I have d-link dr-825 rev B router with [DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/01/13) std - build 21153] firmware. It has dual 2ghz and 5ghz radios.
I can only connect at 2ghz and unable to connect at 5ghz.
I have a dell latitude laptop and my old Galaxy SII has no problem connecting.
Howvever Htc-One lists the access point, correctly determines what kind of security is on (like wpa/wpa2 etc) but is unable to connect. I think once I saw a brief flash saying authentication failure on my phone when trying to connect to 5ghz. So I removed all security and made it completely open just to try. Again no connection without any error.
I am thinking of returning it if it is going to be a problem.

Ok, I have solved the problem, now it is connecting. I made two changes in the wirless setup. Enable RTS/CTS protection and also enabled short preamble. After these two changes it is connecting as expected.

I'm having the same issue with mine and the same router, can not quiet figure out what is going on.
Just quick update i just did an update on my router and it seems to connect completely fine
For those who have router issues, check for a firmware update! Most routers have a few updates while sitting on the shelf. I used to always update and properly configure routers (with out the software disc) for customers at my old job and we rarely had problems of customers bribing it back. And throw out the disc that comes with the router. The software can cause headaches down the road. All security settings can be done inside the router through any web browser and router IP.
Just got a black ATT HTC ONE, everything is great, but no connection to 5ghz network here either.
I have a Netgear WNDR3700 and just updated to the DD-WRT build 21676, and still no go...
All our macbook airs are working fine on the 5ghz...:cryingrobably time for a new router lol

I have a dual band N router, and my One seems to "prefer" connecting to the 2.4 GHz network over the 5 GHz.
It will work fine on the 5GHz, but I have to switch it manually when I walk in the house (so I usually don't).
I guess I could just tell my phone to "forget" the 2.4 network to fix this. On more thinking, maybe it's a coverage thing - it probably finds the 2.4 GHz network first. Lower frequencies penetrate walls better, right?

Correct. The 2.4 GHz network should travel further. Its all about that sweet sweet 5 GHz speed though! Mine connects to my Asus RT-AC66U router just fine.

You could always set it to 5ghz preferred. Mine connects to my netgear 5ghz ac router with no issues. Also if you have the same password for both frequencies it could just be connecting to that first.

I did check when sitting in my driveway - the 2.4 GHz network was still 2 "arcs" there & the 5 GHz was just a dot, so I think it is connecting to the first one it finds & sticking with it. In the Wi-Fi preferences, the "Wi-Fi frequency band" options are only Auto/5 GHz only/2.4 GHz only. No 'preferred' option - I'm running stock though - is there something different in the custom ROMs? I'm not afraid to root/ROM - I just haven't seen a good reason yet.

Use the only 5ghz only. There's a big difference with custom roms and stock att at the moment. There's new firmware etc. 2.4Ghz has more penetration through walls then 5Ghz. That's why you have more bars of one and not the other.

Well I want to be able to use the 2.4 GHz networks when available, so I'll leave it on auto. I guess the speed isn't a huge deal when the wireless connection is so much faster than my internet connection.
And yes, I know that there are lots of differences between stock & custom ROMs (my last phone was a Nexus S & I was always changing ROMs). What I meant to ask was if there was a difference with that specific option.

I have silver One for 3 weeks now, but it was 2 weeks in service - they reinstalled software and returned phone. No change.
I can't connect to any 2.4 Ghz network (G/N) ending Authentication Error. Only 5GHz works.
I tried it with Netgreat WNDR4700 (Gargoyle custom software), CISCO access point @ work, also random WiFi open networks in shops/malls, etc. Other devices i know and have at home ( Samsung Note II, htc Sensation, Acer Iconia tab, Dell Latitude laptop) works fine. Just the One cosing problems.
I run stock rom, how can I turn on more verbose logging or see what is happening in the Operation system while connecting? I must prove to Regenersis Poland service that my phone does not work. Otherwise they will say phone works within parameters.

I've read some reports saying that wifi speed takes a plunge when bluetooth is activated. But the thing is, I'm getting ridiculously slow speeds even with bluetooth OFF.
1Mb download on a 100Mb connection. And it doesn't happen to any other devices.

Use inSSIDer and analyze your wifi frequencies. Make sure you're on the best channel and mode.
If you router support it, try both 2.4 and 5ghz. And at least for me, Bluetooth don't have to be connected to tablet to interfere with wifi, maybe you use some other Bluetooth gadgets at home?

I have smart connect active on my router. When enabled, the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same network name and password(only one SSID will be displayed), and your wireless device will automatically switch connection to the Wi-Fi band that provides the fastest speed.
My device stays connected to the 2.4GHz network, I then have to turn my wifi off and back on again on my phone to connect to the faster 5GHz network when in range. My S21 is the only device on my network that does not do this automatically.
Anyome else experiencing the same or have a fix for this?

I've seen the same behavior. My configuration is the same as yours. I did a little experiment. I switched off the 5GHz range on the router. All clients switched to the 2.4 GHz range. Then I switched the 5GHz range on again. But even after 30 minutes, my 3 dual-channel android devices Galaxy S21, Galaxy Tab S4 and Galaxy S6 were still in the 2.4GHz range. Then I switched the S21 wlan off and on again. The s21 immediately connected to the 5GHz range and the other two devices followed immediately. Very strange. My WLAN router is a Fritz!Box 7590.
Otherwise, I know the behavior of the devices in that the devices only search for a new connection when the current connection is broken.

Hi! These are router problems. Set maximum power for 5GHz and average or minimum for 2.4GHz. Prioritize connecting devices to 5 GHz.

Hi! These are router problems. Set maximum power for 5GHz and average or minimum for 2.4GHz. Prioritize connecting devices to 5 GHz.

Can't be a router problem. Don't have an issue with any other device on the network switching between 2.4 & 5Ghz, only Samsung.

I see that a stronger signal is important for communication than fastest band. Samsung has a weaker Wi-Fi transceiver compared to a laptop for example. In my dual-band router, I made settings as described above.
The Android device alone can select the WiFi frequency range. Try to make the 5 GHz band more "palatable" to the cell phone by temporarily blocking the 2.4 GHz band in the router. Then remove the login data from the mobile phone and from the router. Make a restart from Handy. Then register the device again and release the 2.4 GHz band. Then test the behavior.
