SD Card Write Protected - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I received a replacement s4 (again...) and now I cannot write to my SD. Says that it is write protected.
I don't have an adapter to try the switch, is there any way I can fix this (I don't care if I lose what is on card, I have already backed it up)

Search for kit kat sd card problem. I guess your answer is there.

I removed the card (for the 10th time at least) and this time i blew into the "slot" on the phone where it goes in and reinserted card...no problems...
weird.

Bumping my old thread here. Issue has came back (never really know when it started again...went to put music on and it happened)
What's very weird is that at times I can get it to act normal. Once I deleted all my music, added 14 different music folders one at a time (6 GB total), then it came up with the write protection error. Original music I started with is back. I redeleted my music and added one folder. I went on my phone to see if I could actually play a song and I could. I reconnected the phone to the PC and moved another folder over. I checked this time and I am back to my original music. Do I just have a bad SD card - it's a Sandisk 64GB that I bought when the s4 launched 2 years ago.

SD card causing issues... I think...

Since day one I have had an SD card in my phone and it has been having issues with WIFI causing the cell radio to lock up. I also noticed the "lag" on the phone when swiping through the home screens and especially when open and closing emails.... So I removed the SD card because I had copied over some very large videos from it that I took and forgot to put the card back in. So far today my phone opens and closes email super fast and the browser is crusing along faster, and even simply swiping through my home screens is WAY faster and snappier.
So is there a direct issue with the SD card? it is a no name HC Class 6 8Gb card that was formatted in my photon twice now. I snagged it off of ebay about a year ago.
Also in the battery use panel all kinds of stuff is showing up that has never shown up in there before. com.motorola.com, motorola services, motorola.contacts, com.android.phone and a few others but I have never seen any of these in the battery usage until today. Is this all due to the SD card??? major confusion here on how it could effect the phone so much.
try factory reset.
I can tell you for a fact, not all SD cards are alike! Stick with SanDisk! I have a 32Gb Class 2, I got a 32Gb No Name Class 6. My SanDisk blew it out the water as far as performance. I (we at the job) kept that no name disk for a mear 3 hours or so before packing it back up and sending it back.
Definitely stick with SanDisk/Kingston. I've heard of problems you are having before back when I had the CDMA HTC Hero.

Done this already about 5 times since owning the phone, via both the Android settings and Android recovery. Did that due to a huge issue I am having with the phone already, but am wondering if the SD card may be the cause.

As for speed I can see that, but how would an SD card actually slow a phone down when nothing is even using the card. My phone is like a totally different phone today. When I get home I'll throw it back in there and see what happens. My back button has always been really laggy, but now it is instant.
Very odd.
Get your hands on aLogCat, as I'm curious to see if there's anything there that would indicate root cause.
I also wonder/speculate whether you have something else running in the background that is constantly scanning your SD card, such as a media player looking for files to index.

I need to do the logcat anyway for the other major issue I am having with the cell radio. I have a video of it screwing up but need to edit out some personal stuff first.
But as for apps the only thing loaded is the google music player from the market. I'm not a big music buff and have no need for all the fancy players out there.

[Q] External sd card corrupted....twice.

Let me start out by saying that I have searched for any threads that have covered this, and have come up empty.
This has happened twice to me in the last two months. Running task650's V.9, which is an awesome ROM. I've got a Lexar Class 10 32gb card. Twice in two months have I booted up and the media scanner would show a broken sd card notice. I tried booting the phone without the card, and then re-installed the card. Same notice of bad sd card on boot.
At this point I took the card and stuck it in a laptop, which generated a "can not open due to corrupt or unreadable file" and "reformat drive" or something like that. I was forced to format, losing photos, vids, and TiBu folder. I synced to Dropbox and got the backup folder re-installed.
Any ideas about what could have corrupted the card? I suppose the card could be damaged. I paid good bucks, as it is not a low end card. Replace the card? Any guidance would be appreciated.
I have a Lexar Class 10 32GB card. Same issue, after first time reformatted and same thing happened a week or two later.
I did an RMA with Lexar, think there is a 1 year warranty. Got a new card, been working fine the past several months.
Ok. Thanks for the input. I've got a Kingston Class 10 on the way.
I was hoping it wasn't in the phone hardware.
Thanks, I just reminded myself to do a backup of that card itself to my PC.
Sorry to hear about your problem though.

Yeah, I lost some New Years day photos and vids with my wife. I'll NEVER find her in that good of a mood again!
It makes me wonder about my decision to place my TiBu folder on the external card, along with Nandroid backups. True, it syncs to Drop Box for TiBu but do I need the extra headache of wondering if my card is going to get smoked again? I suppose I should be backing it all up to pc..
I'm not sure but it seems to be a problem with the phone and class 10 cards.
My first one was a 16gb class 10 micro sd that one day just decided to stop working (lasted a month or so). Couldn't access it via the phone or PC.
So I went out and got a 32gb class 10 and after a month or so again it stopped working
Knowing this I refused to buy a class 10 card again. I went to Walmart and got the cheapest 32gb micro sd (Sandisk class 4) and so far so good. no problems at all
Lost everything I had too on the first 2 cards so learned the hard way to do backups to my PC.
Not the class, it's probably the brand. Some brands have terrible quality control, especially if you go for a cheaper one. I have one from Amazon Basic and it works just fine. My brother uses one from SanDisk with zero problem.
Class 10 is also newer. The technology to manufacture these is not that old. I suspect some manufacturers still need to refine their process.

Posted this on similar thread here, but want to make sure people know it's a problem:
Got a similar problem here.
Transcend Class 10 32GB Card
Works in PC, HTC Desire - no probs.
Put in Galaxy S2, it starts Media Scanning, a few seconds later reports SD Card Damaged, requires formatting.
It's right - take it back out (again, umpteenth time!), put it in PC or HTC - card is "damaged". (Nothing permanent, can reformat.)
Samsung support claim to not know anything - mind you they "play dumb" about the camera "pink spot" issue, until you challenge them to get real...
Oh, dear!

I thought my Galaxy was shagging the Card - but it could be a Fake
Testing now with H2testw (also visual clues available) see

Buy a 500gb external hard drive for like 50 bucks they're cheap now. Backup everything to it once a week. Never lose data. Profit.

Sounds like a brand issue, but have you ever tried checking the drive for errors?
Given that even your PC gives you a "damaged" message, it may not work. Once inserted, go to "My Computer," get to properties, and check for errors (enable the "automatically fix file system errors" option). In the past, this has corrected "corrupted" SD cards for me.

The only corruptions I have experienced on this phone were when using MTP to transfer files from the PC. Since I stopped using MTP and use only USB Storage mounting, I have not had any more problems.
I've actually experienced this twice. Both times flashing to AOKP. I'm not blaming AOKP but just saying. The first time even my PC wouldn't read it and it needed to be reformatted. The second time my pc could read it and after nandroiding back to shostock2 it was fine.

Sd Card

Every once in a while my sd card acts stupid and deletes all my data, I had a question on why that happens. Also, I wanted to know why all of the sudden none of my music plays, it hasn't been deleted, but it keeps saying unable to play and I've been playing the same songs on it from before this ever happened. It's only the songs on my SD card and not my internal one.

Could be a bad SD Card. What brand are you using??
I've had this issue before, where my pictures would still be there, but any new pictures won't show up on the SDCard. If I tried to delete a file it'll magically re-appear. I found out it was a bad SD card.
I've had this issue twice (different SD cards) with a life expectancy of about 1 year for each card. The brand that I experience issues with were Sandisk 64GB Ultra.
After the 2nd one failed (the first one I couldn't get replaced) I contacted Sandisk via web chat and told them about my issue. I stated that this was the 2nd time it had happen and I was highly considering switching brands. They immediately offer me a free replacement. Which I took it, but in the mean-time of not having an SD Card I found a deal for the Samsung SD card (64GB Pro) for about 24 dollars. It was a deal so I took it, I haven't had an issue since.
Hope it helps.

SD card problems

Hi All,
Anyone have issues with their sdcard being detected with the G5? I have an 850 and a lot of the time the sdcard stops working or being detected and i cant see why. A reboot and then waiting 20 mins usually fixes it and it shows up in the storage section but its getting annoying.. May have to try another card to see what the story is with that but for now i wondered if anyone else had drama with it.
Cheers
Cass
Maybe the card is dying i would suggest backing up the data just to be safe
No problem with mine

Backed up and reformated the card on pc as ntfs. Card detected on insert, it told me it was corrupt, which it was due to no ntfs support and it formatted it again as exFat. Lets see how it goes now.

This seems to be frequent to a certain extent. This is a hardware issue. Same with S7 Edge or non-Edge (visit page: digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-s7-edge-problems/8/
It seems that LG has the same issue. It could also be an Android 6 issue.
I got my new S7. I have sent to other one for repair. They changed the motherboard. Then it came back with the same issue. Then Samsung sent me a bran new S7. I have no more SD card notifications at all. Not even when I reboot the phone. Yesterday (again) I was listening to music (a set of 2 hours long) from my SD card. I started to look at pictures (again) at the same time. After 40 mins or so, my phone stopped the music and stopped being able to read my SD. Everything froze and I had to reboot. Then, again, a few mins later (listening to music and looking at pictures), it did it again. On the second time, I was not able to reboot the phone using the power button (keeping pressure for 10 seconds). I had to do it using the volume down/home/power. The phone screen was totally black and there was no way to unfreeze it. My notification light was flashing blue (as I had new emails and text), but the phone was not responsive at all.
It seems like Samsung just removed the SD notification as a whole in the new phone but did not fix the issue.
For those who don't have the issue, before commenting, I would appreciate if you could listen to music and look at your pictures at the same time (all from the micro SD card) for at least 30-40 minutes.
I strongly believe that ALL phones have this issue, but that those who don't just have not access pictures while listening to music (demanding on the SD card reading). Do it if you can... and see if it creates problems. And let me know once you did the above.
I forgot to mention. I am a computer and smartphone savy. I flashed all my S1, S2, S3, S4 on a daily basis. I did purchased another SD card (even if my sandisk is working perfectly on my S5). I got a Samsung evo 64gm. The issue remains on both SD cards, and before you comment about it, YES i did reformat on multiple occasions both with my pc AND within the phone. I also did factory reset on multiple occasions. So it is not the SD's the problem. Just trust, I did everything possible.
I have the g5 se and have bought a 128gb card (actually have 3) but none of the 3 work with this phone and when i manage to get the files (music) on the sd when in device it deletes them all is this still the issue people are having

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (CM13 Kenzo) keeps ejecting and corrupting micro SD cards

Hello. First of all this is my first time posting on xda in many years and if this isn't the right place to ask please let me know. Okay so I have a note 3 in a couple weeks a got home begin to randomly start ejecting my micro sd card at first a simple restart would make it start working. Over a week or 2 it would start ejecting and even a reboot wouldn't fix but it would randomly start to read it again til it would corrupt it. That being said I would format it with my phone and all would be good. After putting music on it it lasts maybe a day or so before it starts again (I'll also say this problem was only on my phone other phones and computers would read it just fine). Originally this started with a 32gb Samsung memory card so me having different sizes and brand cards I tried another 32gb and same thing happen. So I went down to a 16gb and although it lasted a little longer same thing happen I've tried different formats from my phone and also my computer. Has anyone had this problem with this phone? I have called a local shop about getting it fixed cause I'm thinking it may be a damaged sd card reader but I wanted to see if anyone experienced this and if so were you able to fix it without taking to a shop. Also I have looked many things online to try and fix and no good so far. Thanks in advanced for anyone that replies.
