[Q] Safe place to download flashtool? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I obviously don't know where to look, but I can't find an official-looking site to download flashtool from. Where's a safe place to get it?

Go to flashtools.net/downloads or click the link http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
the dev uses uploaded.to to host his files but he also provide torrents.

I'm not surprised. Kaspersky recently in my company discovered the virus in a custom ROM, simply because that using a custom ROM, you can replace the Stock ROM. Political correctness is not always a good thing.

Odin??

What is "Odin" and what does it do? What kind of file is it? Should I have it downloaded?
Odin and tar.md5 files are Samsung's version of HTC's RUU and Moto's SBF files.
Oh ok I got it now! Thanks man! Should I have that downloaded to be safe? Is it required to root on the fascinate?
I have it available just as a precaution in case something goes wrong. It isn't required to root your phone, but it can be useful if it stops working or if you want to go back to stock.
Ok by the way I have a quick question on rooting...Is superoneclick safe?
I've never used super one click root, but if you install a custom rom, they tend to all be pre-rooted.
How would I install a rom without being rooted?!!!
Odin.

Instead of asking questions, you should read up on the stickies thread in the development section. Evrrything you want to know about Odin and roms is there. First hand experience helps as well.

Making any changes without having or knowing the basics of odin is not a good idea. I don't think any of those apps play nice with this phone and soft bricking is likely. Best to learn how to recover before your forced to

[SYSTEM] ATT Galaxy Note Root

This one is difference than Da_G one. Da_G one is perm root but it will increase flash counter. This one flash with Odin but in system level not boot kernel
http://www.filefactory.com/file/c3cd812/n/att_note_root.zip
please elaborate ?
i'm a bit confussed
Where is the file?
im guessing what he means is that when you flash this via odin it will give you root perms UNTIL you reboot then you will no longer have root kinda like the temp root the evo3d started with
Hi,
I think what Mashi meant to say and didn't explain too well is that this is a pre-rooted /system image, in the form of system.img.ext4 inside of a pda.tar to be flashed via odin.
Both ways result in a permanently rooted system partition, just this way flashes it directly, leaving the stock kernel intact, whereas my method flashes a modified kernel which then roots the /system partition via a script.
Apparently the download site he uploaded it to doesn't allow non-premium users to download files that large.

+1. I decided i don't want to mess with flashing roms and kernels with this phone, i just want root so i can block adds and restore my titanium backups from old phone.
Well... a friend got one and wants root as well, and my first thing I told him, pull system, root it, (add su to /system/bin and superuser.apk to /system/app) then flash it back with Odin.
Can anyone tell me that would not work? It sounds like that is what this is...

Sense will likely never happen unfortunately. Ics is only a material of time... just need a leak for our device, the int leak doesn't really help as there is too many differences hardware wise.

How about Dropbox? Then just share it.

Help with root.

Hi, I am getting a SGS2 today and want to root it straight away. Its on T-Mobile, don't know other details yet.
I have a SG ACE atm and rooted that easily with a downloaded zip file straight to my phone, no pc, no extracting files, just saved zip to sd card, and installed from there, quick, easy, simple.
My problemis I am reading loads of threads with different ways of doing it and all seem to involve kies, odin or extracting files, I am useless with pc's and technical stuff so is there a simple zip file I can download from my phones browser and quickly install it?
Should I upgrade to ics firmware first or leave it as it comes before rooting?

"Is there a simple .zip I can download [...]?" — no. Short answer on how to root: download an insecure kernel, flash it, use ODIN to flash a custom ROM/kernel, and attain root. Or checkout the zergRush exploit thread. Check the stickies for information on how to root. Using a computer is simply something you'll have to learn to do.
"Should I upgrade to ICS before rooting?" — doesn't really matter, so it's really a waste of time. Once you install a custom ROM, whether or not you upgraded to the official Samsung version of ICS is irrelevant.

No, UK version.

The instructions given in Method 1 (from the above link) are really easy to follow. The files you need to download can be found at the bottom of post. It's so simple to do, you don't even need to use a PC - just download the files direct to your phone and install using the simple instructions provided.
CF Root
CF Root is a really easy way to root your phone.

Sammobile OTA update files

Sammobile has a new function, namely the possibility to download pre-release OTA update files.
When you do so for the S2, you get a .zip containing 6 files:
debug_info
delta.hidden
delta.modem
delta.platform
delta.Sbl
delta.zImage
Does anybody know how to use these pre-release zips?
I think they should be flashed from recovery
Also they don't look like standalone full firmwares but small patches for full firmwares
Also I think they might be for specific ROMs.
If you have to ask this, I wouldn't suggest you use any of these. You need to do more research and understand what they are and how to use them.

Google them, search the xda site, possibly pm a nice dev and see if they might be kind enough to explain them.

These files ain't got normal Recovery flashable file. The problem its, google doesn't give any information on this file content, only as much as that they are files with the difference between the two firmware versions.
They are even different to S3 OTA-Update files, which have an Update-Script and so on. Thus being CWM flashable.
To flash sammobile ota files on Galaxy S2 it is really easy :
1. First, create a "fota" folder on internal memory (/sdcard/fota)
2. Unzip the zip file in it
3. Reboot into Android recovery and select the last option (tesband service [fota])
And that's it. But you have to be sure to be on the right firmware before being able to apply it. If more info needed I could give you more details.

I Need CSC File or something for G900T to install a specific ROM

Ok here is the situation, I am trying to get the G900F BOBCAT ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...pdate-t2836665 Installed on my G900T- Max Lee of Highonandroid.com and GalaxyS5root.com stated it can be installed on the G900T, however when I go to install it- The Rom asks for a CSC version and there is none for TMB, So I was wondering if there is a CSC file for the G900T that I can use- I am using the Phone in the US on TMobile Network. Thanks.
I tried speaking to the Developer and he is very sparce on helping out if at all. Ive installed Exodus, AOKP etc so that's not the problem. Trying to get a Response from max lee on facebook or join the group Highonandroid rehab is like pulling teeth as no one has responded there.
