Broken Cradle Mod/Fix (*Gear S Dock*) - Samsung Gear S

Ever since I bought this watch I wished there was a stand/display/dock for it, something that I could just lay it on at night to charge and would look good on my night stand, well last week my cradle broke, the ol' standard - top clip broke off problem (Still not sure why they changed the cradle from the Gear 1, but that's a whole other rant thread ...) needless to say I was pretty pissed, especially since I've read Samsung refuses to warranty the problem, plus are out of stock when forced to cough up another $30 bucks for an obvious manufacturer flaw, and the icing ... dealing with extortion from Amazon asking $50 for the cradle because the seller knows it can ask whatever they want ... supply and demand, I luckily got the hook on a new charger from a buddy I made here on XDA and I'm just waiting for it to arrive in the mail, in the meantime the frustration of clamping my watch against the cradle and hoping it'll be at 100% in the morning was pissing me off so I decided to try something, something I thought about long before a broken cradle.
Again I wanted a display or docking station for this that also charged it, like the retail display except I wouldn't need the security device in order for it to work lol, so I searched online for simple retail watch displays and found some, got em ordered, decided to skip over the cheap flimsy looking felt ones and get some nice acrylic ones, waiting for them to arrive ... but today I was out shopping with the wife and came across one of those cheap felt ones and decided to pick it up and fiddle until my acrylic ones showed up, basically a proof of concept or prototype before I make the final, came home and got to work.
Stuff needed:
Samsung Gear S Cradle (Broken or not)
Wrist watch display (Buy online or at a place like Michaels)
Hot Glue Gun
Velcro (The kind with double sided tape on the back)
Tiny ClamShell looking hair clips (Thanks Babe! Lol)
* This can be done with or without a broken cradle, if done like I have the cradle is simply velcroed to the watch display, allowing you to take it in or off anytime, the male side velcro attached to the cradle had double sided tape on the back, the female side of the velcro did not, so I hot glued it to the display, which i would recommend to keep it attached to the display.)
I First: Applied the sticky back side of the Male velcro to the back of the charging cradle.
Then Second: formed the arm of the display to cradle the curve of the Gear S cradle back.
Third: In that curve I hot glued the female side of the velcro to the watch display.
Fourth: attached the Gear S cradle centered up and put my Gear S watch onto the Cradle.
Fifth: Adjust and formed the watch displays metal according to my watch band size but keep it tight and firm with the clasp of my watch band was tucked under the watch display. This is actually how the display fixes the problem caused by the broken clip, the watch display holds the watch snug onto it while pushing the charging cradle against the back of the watch thus pushing the pins into the watch, making the clips useless.
Sixth: Hot glued 2 of my Wife's tiny ClamShell looking spring loaded pinch clasp hair clip things (sorry don't know what they are called lol) on the inside of the displays watch band holder and one on the base, allowing me to run the charging cable under and behind the docking station, especially since the side I HAVE to slide my watch onto the display is the side where the charger plugs into the cradle (watch stand has a place where the watches clasps or band slides under to sit between the base and band holder)
Overall this was a concept in my head and that tonight I aimed to prove could work, came out actually amazingly better then I would have thought, even with the crude McGuyver type stuff that I did to it to make it work, which I'll perfect on the final model, but I Def underestimated the felt watch displays, I honestly might even just keep using this one, the pic attached makes it look more crude than it is, not to mention there were still hot glue hairs on it lol, but I normal lighting this thing is beautiful looking with or without the watch attached and functional, the pics I took I added flash and brightened them so you could see what I did.
Overall im happy, this Worked like a charm!
CHECK OUT THE ATTACHED PICTURE FOR ALL THE ANGLES OF THIS DOCKING STATION AND ALSO HERE'S A VIDEO OF ME ATTACHING THE WATCH TO SHOW IT WORKS.

Thanks!
Honestly once I saw where I wanted to go with it, only took about 10 mins to put it together, granted I had pre planned this and had all the materials and tools I needed, but it was worth the work, took no time and all, went together smooth like a premade kit and looks pretty good on my night stand and keeps me from throwing out or throwing the broken cradle in a drawer.

No problem, glad you enjoyed!

Great write-up! I'll order a display thingie for when (not if) my cradle breaks!
I say this everywhere, but if people posted their solutions on Samsung's FB page, they may change their tune.
Maybe not the elegant ones, but pictures of the plastic bottle to hold a $300-400 watch together, 2 months after release, right before MWC where they will release yet another watch, would surely embarrass them into doing the right thing.

Thanks, every night when I dock my watch I love it more and more, no more snapping the clips to the back and forcing the watch on and of fthe cradle, simply sets right right on and it's good, and looks awesome on my night stand, honestly couldn't ask for it to be better. Originally I was gonna do a acrylic one and clean it up, but you can see the clips it really looks retail unless you really look close at it.
Took ten minutes to make, went together like a Lego set ... and cost less than $10 to make.
For me, $4 because we already had the got glue gun and the wife had the clips.
Can't beat it. I'm happy, don't even care about replacing the cradle now.

LoL...it may fit around a beer bottle, then we can blame Samsung for our drinking problem...or even better, can the watch call my GF, when it senses the beer is almost empty....I'd pay for that ap! If it worked!

FRIK!! I guess i have the privilege of joining this exclusive club of broken cradles. This seems to be a design flaw on Samsung part. It took me 4 months, but over time, it seems almost inevitable for it to break.
Anyway,,,my solution. a rolled up sock seems to work for me, keeping the cradle in place.

Maybe if everybody posted their high-end solutions (bottles, socks, toys), Sammy would recognize it as bad publicity and do something about those darn cradles.

I am sure Samsung doesn't really care

Mine broke yesterday I was putting something with a bit of weight on top of the watch and it was charging I was going to call Samsung on Monday but guess I won't bother if they won't do anything to replace it for free will probably just buy another charging cradle

Nice! Going to do this when my dock breaks (since it seems inevitable) +1!
Might be worth noting that you can get a charge-only dock off ebay very cheap. Might do that and use it regularly and keep the OEM one with the battery for emergencies so when the clip breaks on my nightly charger I wont lose my backup battery.

Started a thread about mine being broken just wanted to share my new fix.
First buy another $350 watch and get one of these
Then hold the cradle and connect the watch.
Works rather well but unfortunate that I need to do this.

Yup! I'm glad I ordered a two pack of the non-battery types and already had one... when MY cradle broke. Same problem as the rest of you.
Unbelievable that they break like this. I'm nothing less than a Samsung FanBoy and this has put a damper on my enthusiasm for sure.

Anyone dropped theirs or close calls yet?

I have been showing mine off at the office and all the time someone is holding it, especially one handed, I just cringe. My two year old likes to hold it herself while she plays the games I downloaded for her so we are always sitting and I have a pillow on her lap to rest it on. Man! I can't wait for decent cases to become available for this thing.
I hold this thing like a baby when someone else holda it I stand there and watch them carefully I'm not letting this thing hit the ground
I'm looking to get a good case asap also. I had 2 close calls. one time it almost slipped holding it one handed. althoughi love the look of the aluminum back, it is very slippery. I usually try to always hold it with 2 hands. this thing is light as a feather compared to my ipad1 but being slippery makes me Leery of one hand use till I get a case.
had another major scare when my 16 month old daughter took the thick, heavy Comcast cable remote and banged it pretty hard against the screen. you know how lil kids like to bang things in their hand up n down. I was like WoooooooA! so glad this thing has gorilla glass. no scratches or anything from that. I think because its so thin and flat, its pretty much baby proof if they bang on screen with their hands/palms. my Ipad held up to alot of abuse also and I kept it mostly in the official apple case. I have the targus truss case also that I mostly use when traveling. it provides maximum protection but adds alot of bulk/ thickness. my Ipad survived daughter constantly banging on it, drops flat on the screen on hard surface, and drops on the corner of it on hard surface. it survived it all with no screen cracks or scratches on screen. I'm pretty confident the prime can even hold up to more abuse. I don't even think ipad1 had gorilla glass. I am looking for a good case though. I saw a nice one in accessories section of a leather one at amazon. its on sale for like only $11. there's a thread or link to it in that section of prime forum. I forgot the name of it case. looks good.

My screens already lose so I need a replacement I'm scared if I drop it screen might become worse
I haven't dropped mine yet, but I took mine to work one day. My boss was talking about how she wants to buy the Ipad 3. I showed her mine and she asked to see it so I gave it to her. After looking at it, she sat it on the desk and the spun it so she could at it in landscape mode. I cringed when she did it but figured it would be fine because of the aluminum backing.
Come to find out yesterday when I looked at the back, there are about 4 small scuffs, two on each side of the logo, which I deducted probably came from my boss turning it around on the desk :'(. I guess the back isn't as tough as I thought. Luckily, I had already called game top 2 days after I bought it asking for an exchange because of screen issues. I just hope the replacement has the same build quality and screen as this one. Compared to my original transformer, the whites looked much more true on the Prime.
Dropped mine, but only from a 2 feet or so, but I tried to soften the blow with my toe. It cut it instead, haha, IT TASTED BLOOD. Anyway, careful, edges are quite sharp when falling ^_^
I did today, and look what happened

USB/HDMI cover

Hi there, it's only me or the cover for USB and HDMI (but the second one is less important) sucks? opening it's ok with my nail but get back in closed position is hard -.-, and I have the fear to break the small plastic connection :S tips? I'm thinking about remove them...
I have got a technique to do it, but it's hard to explain. I push the top of the cover inside first, then the bottom.

Exactly, it slides in at an angle, then click in the bottom.
I agree it looks flimsy; I had the same fear with the usb port cover on my X10 though, and it lasted well over 2 years of daily charging.
I am used to it now, it's still pointless though. My Nexus One had no cover and the USB port is still working fine after well over 2 years. I don't know why some manufacturers think a cover is necessary.

It's way prettier, obviously. I saw a picture on here with the cover removed, and it makes the design of the phone sink below sea level.
A flapless port only looks good on a phone with a metal or proper metal-color body. Like the Xperia P. But the Xperia S would look like crap without port flaps.

Yeah but that's because you are taking the flap off when it was designed with it on. Phones designed with a flush usb port and no flap look fine.
It's like saying cutting the roof off your SUV didn't look good. A convertible sports car looks ace.
I don't think the XS would look bad with no port flap. Look at the headphone socket, that's very nicely styled. If they'd done the same with USB I'd be happier.
My samsung tocco ultra had a similar style flap to the XS and lasted me 2 years just fine despite me thinking it would only last two days.
The galaxy s had a slide cover which mostly did the job but wasn't exactly pretty. The pins in micro usb are pretty fine wouldn't take much ingress to mess it up.
I think when the flap spare pieces are available online I will get one and make proper opening for USB for it and leave it there permanently.
Some smart manufacturer could make a delete with correct opening. They could have made it just like Xperia P and it would look very nice.
I was thinking about such same thing. Waiting for spare USB flap availability.
I wonder if a replacement flap could be worked into a clip on case?

Ace, works for me too. I'd been faffing something chronic til now with it but that's deffo the method.
Good to hear that other people have had previous, port-protected Sony's last a couple of years and more OK, especially with 2 year contracts almost being the norm these days. All told it's encouraging, therefore, to read that Sony seems to be some kinda master of the flaps.
Too much innuendo - fnar!
I find the flaps very sturdy so I don't mind if they are a bit of a learning experience. I pop the bottom part, then the top part and it works for me XD.
On my X10 it was easy to remove but it was pretty fragile, so I would rather have it the way it is now, then none at all .
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
i think, it's hard to say whether it is better to have those flaps or not to have them (like in the xperia arc). of course, it also depends on how often you use them.
because of wifi, usb is mostly only needed for flashing, but at least you have to oben the usb-flap once a day for charging
but at the end the phone looks better with them...
The flaps don't bother me that much, but what does bother me is how loose they become after you have opened them a few times. It makes it feel like there is a loose spot in the casing.
I just wanted to chip in here and say if you're worried about the flap, you are right to be. I left mine charging overnight and when I came to unplug it I noticed that the flap had a crack in both sides somehow - despite me being super careful with it. It's not broken - some kind of membrane within seems to be holding it together somehow - but it bends along the crack now and it's a matter of time before it snaps completely.
I don't like that flap design one bit... I thought the X10 had a bad flap design but this one is far worse, especially when you have the phone in a case. It's vulnerable when being charged, sticking out worryingly... hopefully spares will become available. I tried to glue it to reinforce it but it's not easy as the crack is only a hairline when sitting properly.
I don't like them, on mine it has become loose and doesn't latch in at the bottom properly anymore. It has also list it's matte black and is quite shiny now, as is also the 'chin' bit at the bottom under clear strip, there's a definite bit of wear under the back and home buttons. :-/ 3 months old :|

[Q] Verizon DNA rant (sorry ahead of time)

The plastic charging door broke on my phone, and Verizon wants me to ship my device back for this instead of sending me the little piece of plastic, with a possible $200 charge for abuse? The battery life is not great on the device I use it all day so I have to charge it often, I can't stand when MFG's put these little covers on but the phone looks like crap without it.
Anyone else have this and a better way to get the little charging door or a case recommendation so I can't see it? I love the otterbox stuff but both cases are too bulky for the DNA in my opinion.
Most people ripped of that little flap. If you get a new one it will probably come off again, so just keep your phone.
As far as cases, idk. I keep my phone naked.

Agreed, I prefer it naked as well, but this thing looks bad without the door, the phone has such clean lines!
When and if mine comes off or falls apart, I will be making another one that's completely removable, basically like a rubber plug fabricated to fit snugly into the slot when I'm not charging carefully formed to prevent damage or binding.
My rezound didn't have a cover, and I take good care of my devices but in my home and work environment I'm surrounded by dust and dirt. My DNA inside would get lots of stuff like dust and even tiny pieces of hay.
My OCD would get the best of me, and every time I would connect the charger I would think of dust and airborne particles being abrasive to the micro USB port.
It can be annoying to have to use a tool each time I remove the cover but I'm really glad its there. I realize how frustrating it can be though.

My door broke off as well, and I only remove it to charge while on the road away from my wireless charger. I just happened to snap it off while taking the door off, so I still have it, but it has come away from the phone's body.
A monumentally stupid design choice that was clearly done to induce the purchase of wireless chargers.

I think the funny/sad thing here is the immediate claim from Verizon to me on the phone that it's probably abuse. I asked the support rep if he had seen the plastic hinge before. Abuse, total crap when it breaks in a month... if it had a little stronger battery it probably would have taken me two months for it to wear out!!!

Same thing happened to me with the plastic cover. For people having poor battery performance - make sure you check your usage statistics! For example, there is a bug with Latitude where it will constantly ping for location, so Maps will take up a huge amount of battery life. Check and make sure there aren't any programs or servicing taking up an unusual amount of battery life. For me, battery life has been amazing once I fixed the Maps issue (there is a thread somewhere if anyone has any specific questions on that).
I've had my DNA for less than 24 hours and my battery door came off already haha. It's okay though, doesn't look that bad without it and I work in an office so I don't see any immediate danger to the device. Love it.

Sounds like maybe you should take it back and get an iPhone? Seriously, I have the DNA as well. Any phone that has the rubber door flap is going to break, period. Just leave it off. You can resolve battery life by rooting it, and loading a ROM/Kernel that has better battery support.
Lastly, in re: the way it looks, the case, etc. Sounds like you're just unhappy. Try getting a phone you like better? They provide a 15 day return period for folks just like you.

Zerolemon case/extended battery, fell off car at 35mph!

i bought the 10000mAh battery with case earlier this year and it's been great. i can abuse that battery like no other and it just won't die.
however, the real reason for this post is about the case.
i recently had a potato moment and left my phone on the roof of my friends car that i was working on. went for a test drive, out of my neighborhood, down teh main streeet at about 35 mph and suddenly i hear a weird little noise and look up in the mirror to see my phone bounce down the back window, off the trunk, onto the street and then into the ditch.
immediately my heart stopped and i ducked into the first turn off i got to., got out and walked along the side of the road, hoping to find my phone, expecting the worst...
Found it face down in the grass and immediately picked it up and turned it over... glass was intact! the plastic frame of the case had one crack in it that i was able to put back in place inside the rubber case. the rubber had some road rash but was overall intact as well. only thing wrong was my Spen was missing as it must have been ejected by the impact.
no big deal as i ordered a new one.
Main point though, this case works!
So close. My UAG had a similar experience. Ran over by a lorry due and as good as new!

Phew! That was nerve racking lol
Luckily the truck behind me didn't run over it!
Awesome, one of the best things to happen to cell phones. Actually the deciding factor in me choosing the note 3 over nexus 5.

At this point in your tale my heart stopped and I got sick to my stomach at the thought of my newly rooted N3 bouncing down the street. This could so easily happen to me. Great to hear it worked out okay!
Would you try that again if you're so confident that the case works? Personal experience does not equal fact.

jeez dude, relax. it worked for me the one time i needed it. that's all i need. i have no idea if it iwll work again because there's no way to guarantee it will hit the pavement at the exact same angle.
it worked better than no case and i'im pretty confident in saying it works better than some of the other cases i've had in the past that I know wouldn't hold up to the same situation.
did you have a bad experience with yours or are you just trying to stir up soemthing out of nothing?
i read alot of amazon reveiws and forums about this battery .plenty people have dropped there's off scaffolding and at heights ect and survived glad yours is held up but its the battery life i bought this for and its doing really well 19 hours on screen time and 3 days untill charge im really happy .it does feel vey sturdy though it dont have to be delicate with it anymore its like a tonka toy?
Can you upload pics of your damaged case ???
And here I was sure I was alone.
I've managed exactly sane scenario as above and my phone also lived to waste more of my time everyday >]. Thou in my case, ZL casing survived intact. And few years before broken whatitsname holder sent my galaxy tab clothed in otterbox defender through car window on particularly emotional curve. Again, there were survivors.
Those cases work and I can't consider "naked"device complete without one now. And ZL add really big battery to the mix..

Experience with replacing broken screen?

Yep. Kid got a hold of it before case arrived. Yes its my fault. Should have kept better eye on him. There are only two bids on YouTube. Neither one is great. I see on eBay they have LCD and digitizer and housing. From vids it looks easy. But would like to hear from anyone who has done it. Thanks
So sorry for the breakage. Here is a video that seems pretty good, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm6NwBvo6T0. The process doesn't seem to hard, to me. Good luck.

I recently replaced the LCD screen on a OnePlus One, other than the size, it was almost identical to the Mate2. couple parts in different spots but it had enough of those #%(@!)% rice grain size screws that I put them on a magnet, to make sure I didn't lose them.
Yes. That is one of the vids I was talking about. The other one was actually for a mate. Not mate 2. The thing I don't understand on this video is he never actually gets to the part of the screen replacement. So, I am presuming that with this phone as long as I purchase the LCD+digitizer+frame. Then it will just be a matter of putting all the parts including board back in to it. On eBay there are choices. You can purchase just the glass or glass and digitizer or those plus what they call the frame. While on my phone. Only the outside glass is broken. I am going to buy the kit that has all three. I would give just replacing the glass a shot if I could find a video or tutorial. I have looked everywhere. Nothing. The closest thing I could find is the vid on youtube of the guy changing just the glass on his mate. Unfortunately, he never says a word in that vid. I guess it's just to show it can be done. I'm really stressed by all this. I would prefer to just change the glass if only I could find some info. I presume it is like a Samsung where glass is glued with local to digitizer. I have fixed those type on a s3 and note 2. Was not that hard. Just be sure to heat properly and don't scratch digitizer. With no idea of how it is done on this phone. I guess I will get the kit and hope for the best as of course. It has to come from China. Waiting....Thanks for the info and I will do my best to make a vid so others can learn from my mistakes? Lol or hopefully success.
Have a hair dryer or a heat gun handy just in case. On the OnePlus, the screen is "glued" somewhat, to the plastic frame. It is a LOT easier to separate if you heat is up a
bit. Just heat one side, then you the (as I like to call it) guitar pick tool to start to pry it up, then to a little more at a time, so you don't overheat the broken screen.
After you get the screen off, make sure you scrape around the edges of the frame, to ensure you remove any sticky residue. You don't need to heat up the new screen. Once you press it down, it will stick quite well.
If it were me I would get the entire kit and be done with it. There is too much that can go wrong with the hairdryer and peeling the old, broken screen from the digitizer. With the kit, it's just all screws and dismantling then put it back together. Much easier.
I hope that is right about the kit. The thing that scares me is what will the quality of the parts be like? I know my digitizer is fine. So I'm going to try the kit first. If it fails due to bad parts. Then I will still have the option of just doing the glass. The cheapest I saw for the glass was 18.00 bucks. The kit with shipping was 58.00....Not really a huge difference. Again its the quality of the parts that scares me. Of course the vid on youtube makes it look easy. But I'm sure he is doing it on a phone that has been torn down a few times. Its always easier then. As I said. I intend to video all this. If nothing else. There will at least be more info available to poor suckers like me..lol. Will see in a couple weeks if the Chinese ship time holds true...
I'd bet the quality is the same as OEM.

One other thing. Just wanted to ask. You say the one plus is about the same? Are you saying that because there similar in how their made? Or do you know something about where their made. Thanks for the info on the glass. I have done it on Sammy phones. Has to be similar. Kit is already coming. So I'll go that route first try. Wish your repair had been on a ham2. Then I would feel better. I guess I get to go first. Lol

The one I ordered for the OPO looked identical, except the routing for the lcd screen connector was just a little different, but in no way caused a problem.
I wanted to update you guys on how the repair of my screen is going. I have some info to share and trust me. It is important if you ever need to DIY on this phone. Most are aware of the video on youtube. Ive watched it several times and I always got the feeeling it looked to easy. Well, my screen and dig assy came in today. I was going through the process of tearing it down and everything was going well. Untill i got to the part where you remove the power button cable. The one that runs along the side of the phone. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWEN. In his vid. He makes it look like this cable will come off with gentle pressue. BULL****. It wont. It is glued Tight and you will just winde up tearing it. I am so pissed. I wish he would have just said to buy the cable with the kit. Its 10 bucks on ebay of course. So, now I have a torn down phone waiting for the cable. I was making a video of the repair. When the cable comes in. I will finish it and upload to youtube. The other thing he makes look easy is the removal of battery. Again, its not and you could damage it too. But I managed not to. Anyway i am really upset right now so sorry for cussing. I want to find that dude and shake his hand and smack him at same time...

I have worked on several phones. None are easy really. Most all companies use some type of adhesives. Alot glue the batteries in as well. Dunno if you tried it but heat seems to help with the glue. Seen a guy do it with a hair dryer. Worked for me as well with a screen replacement. Never took one of these apart so I have no idea if they use heat activated glue or not. Good luck!
Well Thanks for reply. I too have fixed a few. As long as I have something to guide me. Im Cool. Vid or written indtructions. Yes all phones use some sort of glue. With this one on the cable. Heat would not have helped. You would just melt the cable. I was expecting some adhesive. But not like this. This was not meant to be reused. Period. Thats my point. I wish he would just have said buy the cable. No way it is coming off in one pc. The speaker is also glued down extremely tight. I think I got it. Its still in one pc. Interesting enough. There also on ebay.
I really just want people to know about the power cable. If you have to replace screen on this phone. Get one. Your gona need it. Now it may be middle of july by the time I get the cable. I went ahead and tore everything else out of phone. Tomorrow I will put all back into new assy. But i wont know if it worked till cable gets here. I forgot to record taking out the other pcs. I was just to stressed. But I do have some good vid for most of it. Gripe is now over. il be back when cable gets in...

With any luck you may save someone else a headache!
pckarma112, so sorry for your frustration. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I was going to suggest the the same thing as Moody. Heat from a hair dryer usually helps soften the glue but isn't enough to destroy anything (usually).
Just so we are all understanding, can you show a pic or provide a link of what you purchased? Was it just a screen or an assembly?
Again, sorry for your issues. Hang in there.
Parts
Yes I can. That is if I can post links. So Il try. This is the link for the power cable: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=291410104104&view=all&tid=1181571120019 This I just ordered yesterday. The deleivery is anywhere from middle of July to second week of August. Im keeping my fingers crossed that I got a good vender and will get a good one. They say they have already shipped it and gave me a tracking number. But the number is not showing up yet. Ive seen this before with china stuff. I will give it a couple days and check again.>... The next one is for the screen kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141653108269?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT > Cant say enough good things about this vendor and kit. It looks and feels outstanding and I recieved it in two weeks from china. That is pretty darn good. Now, the only thing is since I have no power cable. I do not know for sure if I got a good one. But, like I said. It feels like a quality part. The last item is a phone repair kit that really helped with this job. The metal and plastic spudger really helped with battery and other small parts like camera and vibrator. For the price I suggest you get one. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111501320079?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
As for the screw driver. Dont do what i did. I bought a cheapo 1.69$ one. It was crap. Lucky for me. I had one from a previous kit I bought and it worked fine. Hopefully these links will show up for you guys. If not I will try with a different browser.
Just so its clear. I do have a hair dryer that I keep for samsung screens. I thought about trying it on the cable. But I have worked on these kind before. There is a really fine line between warming the glue and melting the cable. This sucker had enough glue to hold the hoover damn together. Ive seen it before and Im pretty sure you would melt cable before the glue would give away. Thanks you guys for advise and just letting me vent. I do hope that anyone who attemps a repair can learn from my mistakes....lol. Thanks again.
I've been taking stuff apart and SOMETIMES successfully getting it back together for over 40 years, sometimes with the odd screw leftover, but hey, where do our extra screws come from eh?
I replaced the screen on the OnePlus for a friend a couple months ago and WOW, they need to make these screws JUST a LITTLE smaller, don't you think? I find that keeping a small magnet on hand comes in handy to keep track of those tiny a** screws.
pckarma112- Nice job on the post of Parts. Only problem is the first link failed. Said it was too old. Again, thanks for sharing and letting us learn from your mistakes.
Thanks for the *cough* compliments. The link is bad because seller is sold out. However, you can try this one:http://www.ebay.com/itm/111501320079?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT......If that does not work then there is this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-LCD-D...412?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f3f160554 This is same only black. Again, these people really treated me well. Im sure there will be new auctions when he restocks. There are also plenty of others. Price varies a little. Im really delighted that you find small screws to be a pita. Thats just awsome. lol Keeping a piece of tape on the table really helps. Just drop them on to the tape and I promise you will never lose another one. I would really like for this thread to be helpful to anyone that gets unlucky. So, I am trying to be ernest about it all. That includes honesty with no hidden attitude. When I say thanks. I really mean it.
By the time and god willing the power cable arrives. I will hit the big 60. This will not be the last phone I ever repair( I hope). But it sure has been one of the most interesting. Thanks again guys and may your screws never be loose.
Thanks

Thank you. You gave me a good laugh and it was much needed today. In fact. Its needed everyday in this world. The kit of screw drivers that I own are indeed magnetized. Thank God. Seriously though. If you think these are small. Try repairing a watch. Now your talking micro. I have worked on about a dozen or so with my brother. He is a master clocksman. Makes good money still and when ever he needs help. I get to learn from him and make a little too. So, Im blessed. I also lost track of where a couple screws will go on this phone. But, got it figured out. It is nice to know that none of us are perfect. Thanks again bro.
