Yep. Kid got a hold of it before case arrived. Yes its my fault. Should have kept better eye on him. There are only two bids on YouTube. Neither one is great. I see on eBay they have LCD and digitizer and housing. From vids it looks easy. But would like to hear from anyone who has done it. Thanks
So sorry for the breakage. Here is a video that seems pretty good, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm6NwBvo6T0. The process doesn't seem to hard, to me. Good luck.

I recently replaced the LCD screen on a OnePlus One, other than the size, it was almost identical to the Mate2. couple parts in different spots but it had enough of those #%(@!)% rice grain size screws that I put them on a magnet, to make sure I didn't lose them.
Yes. That is one of the vids I was talking about. The other one was actually for a mate. Not mate 2. The thing I don't understand on this video is he never actually gets to the part of the screen replacement. So, I am presuming that with this phone as long as I purchase the LCD+digitizer+frame. Then it will just be a matter of putting all the parts including board back in to it. On eBay there are choices. You can purchase just the glass or glass and digitizer or those plus what they call the frame. While on my phone. Only the outside glass is broken. I am going to buy the kit that has all three. I would give just replacing the glass a shot if I could find a video or tutorial. I have looked everywhere. Nothing. The closest thing I could find is the vid on youtube of the guy changing just the glass on his mate. Unfortunately, he never says a word in that vid. I guess it's just to show it can be done. I'm really stressed by all this. I would prefer to just change the glass if only I could find some info. I presume it is like a Samsung where glass is glued with local to digitizer. I have fixed those type on a s3 and note 2. Was not that hard. Just be sure to heat properly and don't scratch digitizer. With no idea of how it is done on this phone. I guess I will get the kit and hope for the best as of course. It has to come from China. Waiting....Thanks for the info and I will do my best to make a vid so others can learn from my mistakes? Lol or hopefully success.
Have a hair dryer or a heat gun handy just in case. On the OnePlus, the screen is "glued" somewhat, to the plastic frame. It is a LOT easier to separate if you heat is up a
bit. Just heat one side, then you the (as I like to call it) guitar pick tool to start to pry it up, then to a little more at a time, so you don't overheat the broken screen.
After you get the screen off, make sure you scrape around the edges of the frame, to ensure you remove any sticky residue. You don't need to heat up the new screen. Once you press it down, it will stick quite well.
If it were me I would get the entire kit and be done with it. There is too much that can go wrong with the hairdryer and peeling the old, broken screen from the digitizer. With the kit, it's just all screws and dismantling then put it back together. Much easier.
I hope that is right about the kit. The thing that scares me is what will the quality of the parts be like? I know my digitizer is fine. So I'm going to try the kit first. If it fails due to bad parts. Then I will still have the option of just doing the glass. The cheapest I saw for the glass was 18.00 bucks. The kit with shipping was 58.00....Not really a huge difference. Again its the quality of the parts that scares me. Of course the vid on youtube makes it look easy. But I'm sure he is doing it on a phone that has been torn down a few times. Its always easier then. As I said. I intend to video all this. If nothing else. There will at least be more info available to poor suckers like me..lol. Will see in a couple weeks if the Chinese ship time holds true...
I'd bet the quality is the same as OEM.

One other thing. Just wanted to ask. You say the one plus is about the same? Are you saying that because there similar in how their made? Or do you know something about where their made. Thanks for the info on the glass. I have done it on Sammy phones. Has to be similar. Kit is already coming. So I'll go that route first try. Wish your repair had been on a ham2. Then I would feel better. I guess I get to go first. Lol

The one I ordered for the OPO looked identical, except the routing for the lcd screen connector was just a little different, but in no way caused a problem.
I wanted to update you guys on how the repair of my screen is going. I have some info to share and trust me. It is important if you ever need to DIY on this phone. Most are aware of the video on youtube. Ive watched it several times and I always got the feeeling it looked to easy. Well, my screen and dig assy came in today. I was going through the process of tearing it down and everything was going well. Untill i got to the part where you remove the power button cable. The one that runs along the side of the phone. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWEN. In his vid. He makes it look like this cable will come off with gentle pressue. BULL****. It wont. It is glued Tight and you will just winde up tearing it. I am so pissed. I wish he would have just said to buy the cable with the kit. Its 10 bucks on ebay of course. So, now I have a torn down phone waiting for the cable. I was making a video of the repair. When the cable comes in. I will finish it and upload to youtube. The other thing he makes look easy is the removal of battery. Again, its not and you could damage it too. But I managed not to. Anyway i am really upset right now so sorry for cussing. I want to find that dude and shake his hand and smack him at same time...

I have worked on several phones. None are easy really. Most all companies use some type of adhesives. Alot glue the batteries in as well. Dunno if you tried it but heat seems to help with the glue. Seen a guy do it with a hair dryer. Worked for me as well with a screen replacement. Never took one of these apart so I have no idea if they use heat activated glue or not. Good luck!
Well Thanks for reply. I too have fixed a few. As long as I have something to guide me. Im Cool. Vid or written indtructions. Yes all phones use some sort of glue. With this one on the cable. Heat would not have helped. You would just melt the cable. I was expecting some adhesive. But not like this. This was not meant to be reused. Period. Thats my point. I wish he would just have said buy the cable. No way it is coming off in one pc. The speaker is also glued down extremely tight. I think I got it. Its still in one pc. Interesting enough. There also on ebay.
I really just want people to know about the power cable. If you have to replace screen on this phone. Get one. Your gona need it. Now it may be middle of july by the time I get the cable. I went ahead and tore everything else out of phone. Tomorrow I will put all back into new assy. But i wont know if it worked till cable gets here. I forgot to record taking out the other pcs. I was just to stressed. But I do have some good vid for most of it. Gripe is now over. il be back when cable gets in...

With any luck you may save someone else a headache!
pckarma112, so sorry for your frustration. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I was going to suggest the the same thing as Moody. Heat from a hair dryer usually helps soften the glue but isn't enough to destroy anything (usually).
Just so we are all understanding, can you show a pic or provide a link of what you purchased? Was it just a screen or an assembly?
Again, sorry for your issues. Hang in there.
Parts
Yes I can. That is if I can post links. So Il try. This is the link for the power cable: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=291410104104&view=all&tid=1181571120019 This I just ordered yesterday. The deleivery is anywhere from middle of July to second week of August. Im keeping my fingers crossed that I got a good vender and will get a good one. They say they have already shipped it and gave me a tracking number. But the number is not showing up yet. Ive seen this before with china stuff. I will give it a couple days and check again.>... The next one is for the screen kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141653108269?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT > Cant say enough good things about this vendor and kit. It looks and feels outstanding and I recieved it in two weeks from china. That is pretty darn good. Now, the only thing is since I have no power cable. I do not know for sure if I got a good one. But, like I said. It feels like a quality part. The last item is a phone repair kit that really helped with this job. The metal and plastic spudger really helped with battery and other small parts like camera and vibrator. For the price I suggest you get one. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111501320079?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
As for the screw driver. Dont do what i did. I bought a cheapo 1.69$ one. It was crap. Lucky for me. I had one from a previous kit I bought and it worked fine. Hopefully these links will show up for you guys. If not I will try with a different browser.
Just so its clear. I do have a hair dryer that I keep for samsung screens. I thought about trying it on the cable. But I have worked on these kind before. There is a really fine line between warming the glue and melting the cable. This sucker had enough glue to hold the hoover damn together. Ive seen it before and Im pretty sure you would melt cable before the glue would give away. Thanks you guys for advise and just letting me vent. I do hope that anyone who attemps a repair can learn from my mistakes....lol. Thanks again.
I've been taking stuff apart and SOMETIMES successfully getting it back together for over 40 years, sometimes with the odd screw leftover, but hey, where do our extra screws come from eh?
I replaced the screen on the OnePlus for a friend a couple months ago and WOW, they need to make these screws JUST a LITTLE smaller, don't you think? I find that keeping a small magnet on hand comes in handy to keep track of those tiny a** screws.
pckarma112- Nice job on the post of Parts. Only problem is the first link failed. Said it was too old. Again, thanks for sharing and letting us learn from your mistakes.
Thanks for the *cough* compliments. The link is bad because seller is sold out. However, you can try this one:http://www.ebay.com/itm/111501320079?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT......If that does not work then there is this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-LCD-D...412?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f3f160554 This is same only black. Again, these people really treated me well. Im sure there will be new auctions when he restocks. There are also plenty of others. Price varies a little. Im really delighted that you find small screws to be a pita. Thats just awsome. lol Keeping a piece of tape on the table really helps. Just drop them on to the tape and I promise you will never lose another one. I would really like for this thread to be helpful to anyone that gets unlucky. So, I am trying to be ernest about it all. That includes honesty with no hidden attitude. When I say thanks. I really mean it.
By the time and god willing the power cable arrives. I will hit the big 60. This will not be the last phone I ever repair( I hope). But it sure has been one of the most interesting. Thanks again guys and may your screws never be loose.
Thanks

Thank you. You gave me a good laugh and it was much needed today. In fact. Its needed everyday in this world. The kit of screw drivers that I own are indeed magnetized. Thank God. Seriously though. If you think these are small. Try repairing a watch. Now your talking micro. I have worked on about a dozen or so with my brother. He is a master clocksman. Makes good money still and when ever he needs help. I get to learn from him and make a little too. So, Im blessed. I also lost track of where a couple screws will go on this phone. But, got it figured out. It is nice to know that none of us are perfect. Thanks again bro.

Thanks much! I think this needs to be a sticky!
hey...
just follow the service manual, the phone is *quite* easy to disassemble...
Just one remark : when yo get your old screen, check all the sticky plastics are present on the new one. if not, get the old ones and put them on the new.
I ordered a new screen some weeks ago, got it, and placed it. it didn't work, I think it was because two connectors touched a part of metal... after checking I saw the plastic present on old wasn't on new.... I think it was the problem......
(btw, the s740 screen is really not tough....)
Eh I performed a screen replacement on my fiance's Rose and using the manual helped, but it still wasn't easy in my opinion. All of that conducting tape wasn't the easiest to deal with, and putting it back down was no where as neat as it originally was. And the replacement screen is much darker than the original, although when off they look identical. One of her keys is a bit mushy now too, as the cable in the back was a bit longer than the original so it was folded up in the phone which I don't think helped things out.
Jason
I'm planning on replacing my screen and I've found this guide, which seems to be a good one: http://www.jmedved.com/2010/01/how-to-replace-broken-screen-on-htc

I was gonna send my mytouch 4g to them, but then I got the Amaze... now I gotta wait... One thing that's good is that I have a backup phone once I send my phone to them.
I just don't see how that's possible if they don't cover the ports that give access to the inside of the phone.
Considering our ports on our phone lead right into our battery cover and all of our internal components.

its legit, but I don't know if they'll do our phones yet, there's only a small list, iphone a a bunch of HTC's like evo, but not our phone yet, if we call them maybe they'll do it...I don't see why not.
This technology has been in the works for a while. I remember reading about it and seeing videos of it in action a while back, like at least 5 years ago. I'm super excited to see that it's finally coming around!
It's basically a spray, or a vapor, or a liquid itself, that they spray on or dunk the electronics in. It coats literally EVERYTHING inside it. Imagine dipping your phone in thick paint and letting it dry. Same concept but this is a nano thin layer of a clear substance that repels water. Amazing stuff.
I'm definitely going to give it a shot if their site ever loads and I can find out how much it costs. Haha

I have seen some other companies doing the same thing, except with car windshields. It's like a high-tech rainex. Very cool, didnt thing it would be out for phones this soon, but that's incredible! I wonder if you will be able to remove the housing on your phone after it get's sprayed with this stuff, and it still be waterproof upon putting it back together. like nguy said earlier it has to seal off the ports, and dis-assembling it would definitely break this seal.

Yes you can, they did this with and HTC device and there's a video of it on their website on the bottom. you can take off the back, the battery, heck you can dissasseble put it in water and put it back, IT WILL STILL WORK. This nano spray goes into every SINGLE CREVICE OF YOUR PHONE. it is nano technology!!

This does not affect the phone in any way...its nano...search nano and see how small it is, 1 nanometer = 1.0 × 10-6 millimeters, its at least 1 millionth of a millimeter or smaller... you can see on a ruller how big a millimeter is. does that answer your questions, if won't affect anything, just repel water. if it doesn't affect the conductance between the battery and the phone, it really wont' affect anything else...but call and ask them, i'm sure you'll get the same answer
another video

I am guessing that all this does is protect the electronic components from shorting out or corroding if they are exposed to liquids. I also assume that if you submerge the phone, it will still sink and fill with water and you will still get water under the screen and have to dry it out, etc.
Finally, and I didn't read their web site, but does the process void the warranty?
I watched a couple videos on this tested on the iphone and thunderbolt and it did work. i wouldnt want to test it unless i had a backup or something. it would be safe to have just cause though

I asked about the warranty because I had not seen the video on how this is applied to the phone. I have since seen that. So, if that is how it is applied, every phone should be supported soon.
Believe me, I am the same way; How would HTC know? I guess I am just not convinced that the $60 application is worth it. With any phone, i see it as paying $60 for this application, something other than water damage occurs and I get the phone replaced. If I understand this right, now I have to get this application done again for another $60 because my replacement is a different phone.
If not already, this company should be selling their technology to the OEM. I think the Moto Droid Razr already has this or something similar.
I know many of you will disagree, but this is just plain "gimmicky". I would only consider this if I didn't pay for monthly insurance. I am 10x more likely to drop and break the phone than I am to get water damage. I think most people are.
According to their own terms of use, they only warrant/guarantee that they will apply the coating, not that it will work.
Does anyone reading here work at a cell phone store who can say what the most common reason for a replacement is? I'd be curious.
Dropped my Atrix before i got me a casing for it.
I want to know how is the quality of the replacements glass wise is it still gorilla glass or?
I got my screen replaced at youbreak Ifix. The screen is identical, just be careful that it gets seated well or you will get a lot of dust under the screen..drives me crazy!

If you haven't already bought one take a look at this at ebay,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Motorol...052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc340bee4 .
It is the digitizer and frame assembly. I just bought one of these for mine and I gotta say that I could not be any happier. For one it is OEM. Another I didn't have to seperate the frame from the glass or mess with glue tape. It is a b!tch connecting the ribbon cable back to the mainboard. But other than that it is an easy repair.
Oh, it looks absolutely brand spankin' new.
i replaced my digitizer with a part i got from amazon, big mistake, it was so much worse, looked identical but was just aweful, luckily moto replaced it for free as now i didnt have a broken screen it was still under warranty! good as new now.
edit: also looking at that post above, if you are going to do it yourself having it come with the frame would be great as mine didnt, so i had to use a hairdrier to heat up the glue holding the digitizer to the frame, real PITA
Yeah you're right ears1991, it was nice and easy not having to worry with separating the glass from the frame and then reattaching the new one. My phone looks better than ever. On the very first day that I ever owned it I handed it to my 24 year old son and he immediately dropped it. It put a nice gouge it the glass so until now I have never really had an Atrix that looked new.

DONT USE REPAIR UNIVERSE! Horrible customer service, no phone support, slow ass shipping even tho I paid extra for next day (got it in same time as regular shipping) and gave me the run around when they sent me a defective digitizer first time. Took me nearly a month from order to get what i paid for and only after I threatened to notify BBB of their horrible service.

I watched this video and only needed a small phillips screwdriver and a prytool. I haven't found a video where they show it going back together... Just reverse the steps and you'll be ok. The only hard part was getting one of the ribbon cables back in place. And I gotta say that cable was a b!tch. But I have large fingers and I still got it. So if you have some degree of patience and aren't afraid of messing with tiny stuff go for it.
thanks a lot. i just ordered from the person you suggested from eBay. ill give an update when it comes on Thursday and I replace it.
Cool, I just took my daughters apart, it is dead. I thought that maybe if I disconnected and reconnected the mainboard that maybe it would help. No dice. But I did find that using a pair of locking forceps helped a lot with the cables. Actually it was really, really easy. So if you have a pair, or know someone who works at a hospital that can get a pair, it is worth the trouble. Good Luck.
i just fixed, worked like a charm. and you were right, those damn ribbon cables were a pain. i can finally type regular letters again. lol.
That's great. Was yours pretty much new looking? Mine looks great, there are two tiny dimples on the upper bezel but they aren't easy to see. It's still a 9/10.
Had a small hairline crack across the screen.
So I purchased a replacement glass,
watched several youtube videos on how to change the glass (phone was working perfectly)
came off no problem, very easy as a matter of fact.
replaced with new glass.
phone turns on, nothing goes on the screen.
what happened? did I ruin the digitizer?
never touched it with the razor knife one time but it did have a few flakes of glass on it so I lightly brushed them off with a hairless cloth.
what I do????
****.
it turns on and if I call it, it rings but dead screen.
how did I kill it?

Why did YOU fixed it yourself?
Anyway, check if all something is not connected...
that is the response I get? seriously?
I watched several videos, all said if you take your time, its easy. I took my time and it came off easy and went back in easy.
wondering what I could have done wrong. I do not think there are things that I needed to "hook back up" to get it to work correctly again.
somehow I fried the touch screen and I do not know why.
So, maybe I should be a bit more specific.
IF, you understand and know about how this would happen. Or if you are experienced in the build/construction of telephones and could shed some light on it for me I would appreciate it.
if you have no clue, I really do not need to hear it...
thanks
I'm not an expert but if it turned on before but now it doesn't, its dead jim. You probably heated it up too much. I think the suggested heat is 170-180 F.

my second post. " IT TURNS ON but the screen does not."
I can call it and it will ring BUT THE SCREEN DOES NOT TURN ON!!!!
The screen is probably dead but I am hoping someone who knows about it can give me advice on how to maybe fix it.
that is the help I am looking for!
I believe only way to fix "it" at this point is to buy a new lcd which at this point youre better off buying one with the lcd-digi-glass. I say this because if there was a chance at slightly fixing a bad LCD it would involve hard work with tools beyond your reach and or experience.
Edit: Just out of curiosity, did you disconnect the LCD screen during the disassemble? Make sure its connected properly.

Seems fairly sensible question to ask, especially when your providing so few details. When you checked the screen immediately after connecting it up did it work? If so it's entirely possible one of the connectors has worked loose during re-assembly, if not it's always possible that the new screen was supplied faulty.
I guess I owe an apology to whomever I offended. I was extremely frustrated by the fact I just killed my freaking phone and was hoping someone could tell me a specific thing or two to look for to make sure it was reinstalled correctly.
I was not looking for a, "why did you do it yourself type of statement. Obviously, hindsight tells me I should not have touched it. I understand that now. What I am/was looking for was constructive advice from someone who knows.
Honestly, I do not think there is anything that needs to be "re-hooked up". It was just the glass.
Here is another description, maybe someone who has done it before or knows the correct way to "re-hook it up" can explain a bit more in detail.
Yesterday, I tried to fix just the glass part of the phone, no electronic parts underneath. Just remove the broken glass and replace it with a new one.
I watched several in depth videos on youtube on how to do it. Very straight forward, easy/squeezy.
You heat the phone, use very thin items (razor knife) to very slowly remove the glass from around the edges. Do not tough the screen underneath at all.
I did just that. The screen came off much easier than anticipated. I was thinking I was golden.
Then I replaced everything the way it was, put the new glass back on. and turned it on and blammo, no more screen.
so, once again, I am requesting help from someone who has done this or who knows exactly what I should look for if I remove the new screen to see if something was replaced wrong.
thanks....

Right. Now that is much better. If you would have asked like this from the beginning, we would have helped you.
Now, I personally haven't done this before, but what did you heat the phone up with?
It's possible that you have de-soldered some contacts for the screen's ribbon cable. If you have done that, you may want to open up the phone and check. If that is the case, I'd send it to Samsung or a repair centre. Of course, you'll get the same questions as here, but they should be able to help you. You could always send it to http://mobiletechvideos.com and check if they can do things like that for you, after all, they are a universal repair service.
I hope this helps you a little bit.
Oh, and don't say thanks, click it (Each and every answer. Even mine!)

Oh. By the way: bumping posts is against the community rules - It counts as spam. Next time I will report the post immediately.
I just searched xda, look what I found.
"Oh and one more thing to add. Do not get fooled into buying those "glass only" front panel replacement kits on ebay for $20-$30. You'll just end up with a nice conversation piece on how you got scammed out of $20-30. I do not even know why they sell those for, they even include these cheap ass tools making it look more legit, like there is somehow a way to actually replace it. It's a full on scam if you ask me. I feel sorry for the poor saps who pick up broken glass S3's on ebay for $350-400 thinking it will only cost them $30 bucks to replace the screen and they'll have a like new S3. Suckers....
It is 100 percent impossible to replace just the front glass panel on the Galaxy S3. The glass panel is fused entirely to the LCD, and the whole LCD is glued to the frame. There is no way to "separate" the glass from the LCD without destroying both.
Bottom line, you need to purchase the LCD and Glass Digitizer as a complete assembly, around $200. To make life easier, you should buy it with the frame also, around $220-240 so you won't have to curse and ***** when you try to pull your old LCD and digitzer from your old frame, broken piece by piece. "
I am one of those suckers! I guess I need a new LCD/Glass Digitizer with the frame and then pay someone to do it correctly!
DAMN!!!!

I'm glad you and the search engine have met
Yeah, that would explain a lot. I actually feel sorry for you, man. Good luck with getting that fixed!
yeah, the funny thing is, I searched all over google and did not think about searching here.
Why? I have no freaking clue. Just plain stupid of me.
I already sent an email request to mobiletechvideo.com. I hope they can fix it, if I send it to them.
Thanks for your helpful advice. This is what I was looking for.
(oh, and the repeat of the same statement from yesterday was not for a bump, it was a mistake. I did not see it so I posted it again. if you look it was only 5 minutes apart)
once again, thanks, I also hit your "thank you" meter!

that's not true though, it's just very difficult
Well it finally happened. I completely shattered the glass on my Note, fell out of my hand about 5+ft in the air and landed basically glass down. Luckily it still works fine so I just need to replace the glass itself not the entire screen. Right now the screen protector is the only thing holding it together I think.
Here's what i'm thinking of grabbing to replace it:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C0NGTIW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3I0LAK8U3EE99
Any thoughts on that product? For the price i really want to just try it.
Lol at them trying to say it's 129 and you are getting some deal. You can get these on eBay and everywhere for ten to twenty.
I highly suggest you watch some videos as the processes can be a bit intense separating the glass from the digitizer.

I would also like to suggest you make sure you know what you are getting into. Its been done enough times that I dont doubt you can pull it off, but its not as simple as some phones were in the past. That digitizer is really stuck onto the display.

I've watched a good amount of videos and I am fairly confident it won't be an issue. I have all the tools and do things like this as a hobby anyway so I have the patience for it. I'm just worried about the quality of the product. It looks fine, and the reviews seem okay so I might just bite the bullet and buy it. If it is terrible i'm only out 10 dollars.
