I did a factory reset on my Samsung Galaxy SII after it stopped detecting my SIM card but after doing that it got stuck on the boot animation. I'm getting the following message when I do a factory reset via Recovery Mode:

Enter:OK Key, Select: Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Copied the packages.
Copied the default_wallpaper file.
Copied the power on/off animation files.
Applied the CSC-code 'XTC'.

Also, before entering Recovery Mode it asks for a pin code that I've set up when I configured my work email on the phone. This phone is not rooted (using stock ROM/firmware). Is there anything else I could do before I opt to bring to the service center?
Disclaimer: I am a noob and this is my first attempt at flashing a custom ROM to my Galaxy Nexus i9250
In order to flash a custom ROM to my Galaxy Nexus i9250 (GSM), I did the following:
- unlocked / rooted the phone
- flashed CWM Recovery
- downloaded a ROM and saved it to my SD card
- wiped data cache
- Went to recovery and tried to install it from sd card
I got the red exclamation into android image and the message that "installation aborted"
The recovery log:
-- Installing: /sdcard/update.zip
Finding update package...
I:Update location: /sdcard/update.zip
I:using /data/media for /sdcard/update.zip.
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
result was NULL, message is: assert failed: install_zip("/sdcard/update.zip")
------------
I have tried the following:
- flashed CWM recovery several times and retried
- downloaded the file again from internet and tried
- downloaded different custom ROMs and tried
Each time I reach the same point .. red exclamation mark and installation aborted ..
Perhaps I am making a very obvious mistake .. but I honestly cannot figure out what
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks !
Give me the steps you're taking right from when CWM boots up.
You should be doing this:
wipe data/factory reset
advanced
wipe dalvik cache
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from sdcard
navigate to the .zip file
Thanks

I changed the following steps:
- wiping dalvik cache. Had missed that before
- my mac was unzipping the downloads , and I was zipping them again before transferring them to sdcard.
- I had not saved gapps zip file to sd card (dnt know whether that was required).
Anyways .. done now.
Thanks.
can someone help me on installing the Carbon ROM Android 4.3. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i've downloaded the zip file needed from (AT&T) I've put it onto my sd card and i followed these steps
Step 1: Wipe Date/ Factory reset
Step 2: Wipe Cache partition
Step 3: Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache
IMPORTANT ONE!!
Step 4: Mounts and Storage > Mount /system > Format /system
Step 5: Mounts and Storage > Mount /system (yes again to make sure its mounted, do NOT click UNMOUNT /system
Step 6: Install carbon rom, followed by the gapps, and all should be working swell. This is what I did to get a first time install working.
But i do have a problem with step(s) 4/5. when i do it, it the screen just does a quick flash, so i'm not 100% sure of it did it's job. so after that i continued on installing with the 6th step, and it does a 2sec start and tells me that it had failed. So I just restart my phone since i cant do anything else and I'm still stuck. BTW my phone is rooted. Does anyone have some advice on installing this?

when i started flashing rom i learned never reboot device after formatting partitions, because if you format a partition like system or data, cwm will remember where it is , so you can mount it. but when i format and restart my cellphone i cant mount anymore. i had this problem lots of tomes until i discover it
just try again..no rebooting!
Hi mates i made a flashable.zip for CWM recovery based of the ISR/ISRAEL V20A firmware
It has all the same things of the KDZ file i just extracted a rooted it.
INSTALLATION:
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT ROM AND APPS,RECOVERY,TITANIUM BACKUP ETC
Go into CWM recovery
then go to :
Mounts and Storage
mount /data
mount /sdcard
mount /system
under that options select this ones:
format /cache
format /data
format /system
go back to the main menu
then wipe Cache partition
after that go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache
go back to main menu then
wipe data/factory reset
Install Rom from SDCARD
after installation its completed wipe cache and dalvik cache again
Restart the phone.
Go to superSU app
it will show a warning telling you that something its wrong with the SU access.
Reboot into CWM and flash the SuperSU providen by chainfire.
http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
Reboot the phone then superSU app should be gone from the app drawer, just reinstall it from google play and update the binaries via normal mode.
Reboot the phone again ,now you wil have complete root access
also dont forget to disable MLT from hidden menu, just dial:
3845#*714#
DONE :good:
DOWNLOAD:

Hello friends
My Nubia Z7 runs on KitKat 4.4.2 ver V1.26 (stock rom) and it has the stock recovery, which is a limited one, it is able only to update the stock rom, but it cannot flash gapps, or other zip packages
I dag the net but it doesn't exist any custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM for this model, working with kitkat 4.4.2, only a Chinese TWRP version for Lollipop.
So after many days I found on Baidu a Chinese version of CWM which I wish to share.
You can download it from here:

If anyone could take the file and upload it on cloud for download, because the link will soon expire, please do it.
