Hi guys,
I've had the streak for a while now and still se as main phone but one thing I still can't get around is the dialler.
I'm still using Stage as I prefer it to others, I like the widgets and the home widget with most used apps but the dialer is poor.
I've downloaded others and set them as default but when I press the phone on home screen it still launches stock.
Any ideas?
AFAIK the dialer is hard-coded with Stage UI. Change the launcher and you can customize the dialer. But you then won't be able to use the Stage UI widgets.
Just changing the question a bit - want to flash a new dialer ( launcher-holo/other )

Ok, Let me extend the question to suit my case here.
I am on DSC 2.2 now, and I wish the dialer was something like Lxdroid 0.2 ROM, or someother dialer which supports T9 & a better call log ( with exact time and call times) than the stock one.
How do I flash only another dialer over the current one?
I am already trying to replace the Battery icon in status bar ( as given in hundertains thread - on replacing stock battery less-informative icon by percentage icon).
Thank you.
Sony.
That's a horse of a different color, since DSC by default doesn't use the Stage UI. You can flash a new dialer over the old, so long as the dialer comes from the same base ROM. For example, you cannot take the modified Olleh/DSC-compatible dialer from Touch of ICS/Traveller ICS and use it on a Cyanogenmod ROM. I tried it and lost phone capability until I restored the Cyanogenmod dialer. LexDroid I believe is based off Cyanogenmod, thus you cannot take it's dialer and move it to DSC and have it work.
A better option is to install one of the dialer replacements from the Play Store.
Love using AOSP based roms such as AOSP+ and CM, is there anyway to change the default dialer to a third part app such as exDialer? I prefer the extra features of a different dialer app.
Unfortunately incoming calls are still routed through the system dialer, and if I disable the system dialer app then it simply shows I have a call but no dialer is active but have no way of taking the call.
I thought perhaps disabling the system dialer would cause make the rom ask which app I wish to use as the default dialer etc, but that didn't work.
Are there any dialer replacement for android at all? I'd like to have one that resembles google's dialer , I installed simpler contacts , simple dialer, ex dialer and they all seem to work until I try to make a call, then they "redirect me" to the stock samsung dialer which is not only ugly but it makes me crazy because after I hang up takes like 3 seconds to go back to the homescreen, any ideas?

No exdialer also uses the samsung dialer when you make an actual call :crying:
Probably because Samsung dialer is embedded in seccontacts but as soon call trying to connect it goes to legacyincallui
Samsung have end call screen which lasting for couple of seconds (probably 1.2 to 1.9 seconds depends on condition it gets disconnected. So solution can be by removing that call end layout with modifying layout or reduce end call screen timeout with smali level editing. In both case not easy if you are not Pro with this stuff.

I think that dialer. It looks and works almost like lollipop dialer. Try it!
Edit: KK Phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kk.dialer
I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simpler.dialer&hl=en
The Dev also has a contacts app with an embedded dialer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simpler.contacts&hl=en
The Sammy dialing screen is embedded; I'm not sure there's an app that really gets around this. Modding is the better solution but Sammy has so many variants that the development effort on devices is fractured -- I've yet to see a theme that covers all the basic apps (systemUI, dialer, contacts, S Planner, etc) to give them a proper Material Design makeover. If there were just one or two variants of the device, I'm pretty sure we'd have already seen more extensive theming and modding.

That's the same app I use simpler contacts and that's what I was afraid to hear, that there's no way to prevent the phone from using the stock dialer when you make calls
I'm hoping we will get the Galaxy s6 dialer which it's a bit better and specially that we will get the s6's theme engine with the 5.1.1 update but so far there have been no rom leaks so I don't what to think anymore.
Is there any update on this issue yet?
I have tried to use Wanam Xposed to code this out but it will not work.
You can change the ugly white UI in the settings menu which is something at least.
But the stock dialer color will not change.
Does anyone know of a mod to flash back to the dark Jelly Bean dialer?

Just to mention it, if you use any of the 5.1.1 roms, the note5 dialer works prefect on it. Just over right old and set permissions. It is also much, much closer to the aosp one with very few changes. I won't be home until tonight but will try and post it later if anyone wants it.

True Phone is the best.
Any simple way to change the dialer colour. Im on Note 4 N10G on downgraded Kitkat 4.4.4. The JB dialer had a black background when the call is dialling which changed to green when the call connected. But in this stock dialer the background remains green even before the call connects
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/themes-note-4-blacked-ui-kk-4-4-4-mod-t2922662 going to try this and see if it works
KK dialer bro. Check it on Google play
KK like other dialers only provides interface BEFORE call is dialled. Once dialled it goes to stock dialer interface.

If you've got Marshmallow, try Google dialer from the N developer preview which can also be set as default; search for Google Phone in ApkMirror.com. True material design and overall stability are the keywords

Ur talking about the call ui. That's kind of difficult to change.

Anybody ever found a solution for OP to bypass stock dialer when actually calling? I absolutely can't stand the stock dialer for functional reasons, not aesthetic ones. The mute button right next to call end?!? What kind of smart idea was that? I'm on 1-hour conference calls all day long, and often mute. A smidge off and then I'm stuck redialing a [email protected]** conference code again. Horrible user experience design. Call end should be isolated far from other common buttons. Anyway, back to the topic, any way to replace or bypass stock dialer... and particularly without root, for those of us who want to still be able to use mobile wallet and banking apps?
Hi,
I've been using exdialer for three years now, but lately I got tired of it. Its main problem for me is that it does not seem to replace completely the stock dialer. Each time I get a call, the background colors are the same light ones used by the stock dialer and also the caller ID photo does not cover the entire screen. Is there any more modern dialer? I'd like someone better integrated, with more complete theming options and a full caller ID picture. Feel free to post a screenshot,if possible. Thanks!
Contacts & Dialer by drupe
or
ZERO Dialer & Contacts & Block
As soon as google phone provides support or i upgrade, i will be using this but the above apps are good
I have an H930DS model V30+. Ideally I would like to be able to disable/uninstall the stock dialer/contacts applications which are ugly IMHO. There are lots of alternative dialer apps but they can't prevent the stock in-call screen from showing. Drupe is the best I can find as it uses an overlay to hide the stock app but it has limitations around handling the missed call notifications which can only be fully cleared by going into the stock app. Can anyone advise of a way to disable the stock dialer (I think I may have to use WTF method to unlock the phone to do this)? Aside from the ugly dialer, all other changes I would like to make to the phone are easily made by installing alternative apps so this is just the last thing I want to change for the phone to be close to perfect for me.
Have you tried changing in Default Apps the application responsible for Phone? That ought to work.

Yes, changing the default app doesn't override things like the in-call screen and other functions in all cases (it varies depending on the replacement app). Most dialer apps specifically mention that they cannot override some stock dialer-related functions in their FAQ section. An old version of the google dialer app is also a partial solution but some functions like 'nearby places' don't work.
The stock app is the one that the emergency call from lockscreen seems to activate no matter which other dialer has been installed. For obvious reasons accessing the dialer for emergency calls from the lockscreen would still need to work. I dont know if access to dialer from the LG lockscreen depends on the stock dialer still being installed
I finally decided to unlock my phone and root it. I was able to install the google framework with magisk then install the full version of google's dialer app from the playstore with all the features working rather than the patched versions that run on unrooted phones. Apart from the emergency dial from the lockscreen there is no sign of LG dialer or contacts anymore
