Hi,
I'm currently using a simple rubber case for the side and back. But, as it has few downsides, I have a question: is the case really needed? I want to hear from you, how this phone performs without the case, does it scratch, or damage easily?
Thanks for any helpful replies.
I liked my phones how I like my women: naked. I didn't drop it once, so I can't tell you what damage it can take (although I'm pretty sure the glass might crack, but I'm not in the habit of dropping my phone), what I can tell you is that the back panel is easily scratchable, so I put a screen protector on it (only on the back). The screen is doing excellent by now, not a single scratch, although I might put a protector on it when the summer comes, I don't want any sand on the glass.
Depends, do you have any history of dropping phones? We all have different cases, some people drop their phones often, some do not. Also, there are a huge variety of cases for the z2, mine is a very thin 0.3mm case which feel good in hand, but doesn't provide that much protection.
Regarding the scratches, I can confirm that some cases scratch the back if there are dust and dirt trapped inside.
In my opinion yes, if u are not a rich man like me. Atleast ill use a case for 1 - 2 years before ill naked my phone.

Get a case if you dont like scratching the sides and the back of your phone. If you want to keep your phone slim with mediocre protection, you can try Spigen Ultra Fit. Im using it. Im happy with it as it has protected my phone from falls before, like 3 times, without any damage or scratch. Bulky ones arent my type. I keep my phone on my side pocket. Been using this phone for 7 months, not a scratch! Im just lucky or very cautious. Good luck!
It's not really needed, but I think it's worth the money because of the added protection.
For those that have used a case, have you also used a screen protector? Plastic or tempered glass?

Nillkin Tempered 9H here. Phone fell down 1.5 meters this afternoon (front of the phone hit the concrete), the screen protector didn't survive it. Phone is completely unscratched however, so it works wonders

Thanks for the info. One more thing...if the tempered glass breaks, is it complicated to remove it and replace it?

I have replaced the back glass twice on my Z2.
Both times it cracked whilst in my front pocket.
I wouldn't suggest tight pants with the phone Haha.
EDIT: not hard at all. Look it up on YouTube. Took me about a minute.

It was really easy. Phone was a bit sticky at first, but the provided cloth fixed that problem. Replacing it should be easy, but I don't know for sure. My new screen protector should come in on tuesday

There are good quality tempered glass out there that doesn't break easily...

Hi, if you don't want your phone to get scratches on front/back glass panels, I suggest you buy a tempered glass protector. There are many brands out there that you can buy in the market (e.g. Spigen, Nillkin etc.)
I have white colour and I don't want it to get stained so I'm using a cover.

Yeah. I've got a nasty scratch on the front, so Nillkin H+ is on my way.
InviGuard
Anyone hear uses InviGuard to replace Hard cases?
You might wanna consider a case that can lift up the back slightly. I didn't use a case, but 2 weeks later, I scratched the camera lens already. So I really suggest using a case

I don't use a case, because until now I believed in dragonglass. Unfortunately something scratched the back of my phone. Although Xperia devices are very good, next time I'll use a case.
I bought my phone and used it without a case for nearly one week. I was so stressed that it could slip and broke the front or back glass, then I bought a cheap but efficient hybrid case, it has like rubber and hard plastic covering the back.
Also, my phone now looks black, as it is white and I don't like that color.

I don't use a case. Just front and back screen protectors.

I am looking to find the most high quality option when it comes to screen protectors for the Ultra.
I have tried the Muvit protector - but it isn't the best quality I've seen - and it got a little scratch in the application process.
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Stealth Extreme R from Armorz without having first taken off the shatter proof film?
Wondering how it fits on the device, how it affects the weight - and generally how high quality the protector actually is and if it is worth the extra $50.
I am not interested in trying to remove the shatter proof film after reading people's experiences.
Not sure if it'll help you, but there are quite a number of "reviews" on it on Youtube.

I have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R tempered glass protector. Its actually pretty good quality. If you have never put on a glass screen protector before, it might be a little tricky. I put mine on without water, and paid the price when trying to reposition it. the bottom corner is lifted from when i tried to pry it up and move it. I did apply a back glass using the water method, and it took longer to get the bubbles completely out, but came out pretty clean.
I did not remove the anti shatter film on either side, and have not seen any loss in touch sensitivity.
one thing i did notice is that, it added a little bit of weight, but also gave the phone better rigidity when used without the case. some people have mentioned the phone twisting in their pocket, and i have yet to experience any twisting whats so ever.
not sure if the price has gone up, but i ordered mine for 39$ on amazon. hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the insight!
So why do you think doing it dry caused a problem? Is the adhesive very strong? I figured it would just pull right off.
Do you have any bubbles or blemishes on the front?

it's a silicone based adhesive. peels off fairly easy but keeps a strong bond. when I pryed the corner up, I pushed part of the adhesive so it clumped up and now won't lay flat. if you spray it down with water, you'll be able to slide it into place with out having to lift.
it looks like a large are in the picture but it really isn't noticeable. the backside went on with water without any issues. sucks that the back glass cost me 13$ and the front cost me 3 times that much only to have that messed up corner. you live and you learn. Lol

... Is that crap made out of Gorilla glass? Good god, that's a screen protector. None of this "Clear film" BS where if there's an Airbubble you just ruined a purchase, oh no, this is quite literally just another screen slapped on top.
What does it do to the thickness of the thing? My concern mainly is with cases like Sony's Battery case that kind of only work with just exactly how thick it is.
Not sure if it's really gorilla glass but no scratches so far from things that would scratch plastic protectors. It is pretty thin I can't say for the case but its under 1mm thick.
Does anyone know this?

Not sure if it's been discussed here before but I just applied the most amazing screen protector I've ever use on any phone. It's called ILLumiShield and they sell it on Amazon and eBay for a reasonable price and is absolutely fantastic it's so easy to put on bubble free, feels like glass even over the the crap protector Sony puts on. I highly recommended and no I don't work for them hehe

I found this issue to be greatly improved with the iLLumiShield screen protector. But it was definitely more of an issue with the cheaper screen protectors. You also might want to go to settings/sounds and uncheck vibrate on touch. I feel like this improve my touch sensitivity.

Turned off vibrate on touch and it seems a bit more more responsive in some areas, even though it probably is placebo. I have an iShieldz screen protector (similar to Zagg) and noticed that it wouldn't respond when I tap the screen sometimes. Though, I think that's the way I tap the screen, edge of finger vs finger.

Thanks for the tip. Just bought one. Been wanting a protection like that for my phone ever since removing the factory protector. The phone is a fingerprint magnet without the ASF. However found it for $16 and free shipping to Sweden (only front protection though, don't need it for the back).

I applied Glass-M screen protectors on both the front and back of my phone yesterday, and have been very happy with it so far. It's added a little weight, but it feels sturdier and more premium than before, and looks better than the plastic screen protector I had previously. The touch is also a lot smoother than the plastic one, which was a bit rubbery. I installed mine on top of the ASF, both front and back, since I didn't want the "harrowing" experience of removing it. I feel like it's protected well enough to do without a case, though I may get a slim one to cover the edges of the phone as well. Highly recommended. :good:

I will send you the links to the images!!
Received my GlassM this week, applied it yesterday. For whatever the reason, there is now, after 12 hours of use, a 10cm large, deep scratch (no, it's not dust, polished few times). Over the first night, the screen got the crack though. This morning I've noticed the deep scratch.
Yesterday evening, just sliding over my wooden table, impressed of its smooth, I notived two smaller light scratches. I thought so, "ok thats not really your truth, GlassM", but now it's really enough.
GlassM's support does not reply to my support request unfortunately.
Can someone recommend other Glass-protectors for my beloved ZU?
Greetings,

The oleophobic coating on my phone started to wear off and an ugly stain is left at the bottom corner of the front panel. I came across this fusso product and wondering if it possibly can cover and hide the part with no coating on the screen? Also I am not sure if at all it can be applied directly on the ASF or it is meant for glass surfaces only?
Maybe you can advise me with any solutions?
By the way my phone is only like 10 days old and I baby it.. it's just ridiculous.

yes I can help
you got 2 solutions.
-Take it off original screen protector. (I know it's a pain for you but it is a choice)
-Buy another screen protector and put it on top. Stain WILL disappear.
My recommendation for you is GearMaxx (front and back). That is a top of the line product.
I have removed the original screen protector (which is a pain). Tomorrow I will receive my Glass-M screen protector and try it out. It's supposed to have very good fingerprint protection. A bit more expensive but seems like a good product.
Though I am also gonna order a bottle or two of the Fisso product you mentioned. Funny you mentioned it because I first saw it just a few minutes ago on another site. Also got good reviews I've seen. Albeit a tad expensive.

Oh removing the back protector on my old Z was a nightmare I don't want to go through that hell again ever. Putting a second protector on top looks like is the only opt to me for now as the Fusso coating is meant for glass surfaces only, maybe it will harm the protector or won't work properly idk.

I think it only works properly on naked glass so the protector has to be removed. Though indeed it was a pain and took me about an hour with acetone and knife. Though I miss the oleophobic coating a lot.

I took off my stock screen protector a while ago and installed a tempered glass screen protector since the stock glass has no oleophobic coating and feels a little sticky. Well my screen protector chipped so I removed it and applied a coat of rain x. It feels great! Still slightly more sticky than gorilla glass but much better than the stock glass. I applied some to the back glass too just for protection under my case. The glass is more shiny and attracts fingerprints less. Any fingerprints are wiped off easier. I highly recommend using rain x instead of a screen protector after removing the stock layer. Now I'm pissed that I spent so much on those stupid screen protectors that are hard to apply perfectly and chip/crack after a few months.
..exactly what tempered screen protector did you buy? You have a link?
Great idea!!

I started with the one everyone on here recommends, m-glass. I got some crap under the front glass so I ordered the explosion proof front protector off amazon. The front protector chipped near the microphone after a few months and when I removed my case I noticed the m-glass back had cracked. The glass protectors feel nice but are too expensive and not durable imo.

Not sure if you want to be in regular contact with those chemicals: http://goo.gl/yLmN1d
Known eye irritant.
May want to consider something less toxic like http://goo.gl/le5xtW if you want to go down this road.
So, I did this. Looks like a lot of forums have threads about Rain-X yielding positive results.
I also found this post and followed one of the comments.
Not sure if its available everywhere, but for glass coating I use Gtechniq G5. It lasts way longer than Rain X.
Applying is the same for both, tho.. The trick is to clean the screen as good as possible, and use something alcohol-based to make the surface free of residue from the cleaners. Put some G5/Rain X on a cotton patch and apply it in a THIN layer on the glass in "up and down" movements (not circular). Let it sit for a while (2-5min), then apply a new layer the same way on top of the previous layer and let that sit for a while again. Use a clean hot water-moist microfiber cloth to buff it off, and a dry one after.
Let the glass cure for a couple of hours (NO TOUCHING), and your good to go. The G5 coating should last for at least 6 month, and your glass screen should be resistant to dust and fluids. MUCH easier to clean too!

Nice! I'm in need of another coat of Rain-X, it definitely wears off. Let us know if you try the G5.
Bought my first tempered glass screen protector from amazon for $6.99 for the G3. .33h thick. I will never go back to a plastic one ever again on any device. it looks awesome. Very scratch resistant and hardly or no grease ever collects on it so it is very streak resistant. This buy is a no brainer.
Install instructions.
After cleaning screen with some alcohol base cleaner and micro fiber i went into the bathroom where I had a hot shower running to reduce the dust in the room. I then used scotch tape and attached to the phone like a book with 2 strips attached on the side. I did not remove the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass yet. I was now able to fold the screen onto the phone like a book with precision. I then used scotch tape connected together as if to be double stick side and tapped the whole screen clean of dust with the scotch tape. I then removed the inside protection sheet on the tempered glass and folded it over onto the phone and viola! perfection!

So I take it there is no issues with screen sensitivity with this tempered glass protector? The ones offered through Verizon seems make screen sensitivity an issue.

I have to say I have noticed a very very slight sensitivty issue but very very infrequent. I find the return to be far greater than the loss as I was having far greater issues of streaking from grease. My call is a much far greater improvement over all. like a said, this ones a no brainer. (since I don't have a brain [all statements I've made = true] lol
also since I used a circle case I was always getting a circle dust/grease stain I was constantly cleaning every time I opened my phone. this has changed dramatically with the tempered protector. If your using a otterbox defender which has an additional screen this may cause a problem. I would go back and check for you cause I have a defender but I love my wireless charging and I love the case and I'm not going back. Some people have this case for sale on amazon for around $27. I figured I would just buy through verizon since I get a 25% discount on accessories and it is warrantied for 1 year. If I get problem I can just walk into a store and replace it that day. (I hate to wait)
cheers.

I had the same sensitivity problem with mine. Ended up taking it off after a couple weeks because it was so annoying. Mine was Verizon branded and pretty thick though.
Note, with the Otterbox Defender, it's a good idea to pop out that pre-installed screen protector. It's garbage and the case still fits on a phone with tempered glass.
Using the iCarez and a Ditztronic case, perfect match. Can't even tell it has the screen protector.

Note, with the Otterbox Defender, it's a good idea to pop out that pre-installed screen protector. It's garbage and the case still fits on a phone with tempered glass.

Using the iCarez and a Ditztronic case, perfect match. Can't even tell it has the screen protector.

How do you know my name!? 0.o
Since you know my name, you must be a prophet. Prophets can be trusted and I will try out tempered again. Ordered.
When u lose your tempered that leads to anger... Which leads to the dark side.

Tempered glass caused screen sensitivity issues for some people right? I like my icarez matte screen protectors.
I have been giving RainX alternative called Ultimate X a try since I bought it from Walmart a few months ago, but it doesn't seem to effectively repel fingerprints. On oleophobic coated screens, fingerprints smudges show lightly, but after removing ASF and applying Ultimate X, there is small improvement, but now fingerprints are really really dark and thick, and looks really disgusting. It looks like some thick sticky sauce got smudged on there or something. It's not very easy to wipe off completely, but after some tries, it is wipable.
Is this normal for RainX? I know that RainX is a water repellent, and NOT oil repellent, but why are people saying it works wonders on phone screens? It doesn't on mine. After 30 minutes of use, my XZU screen looks so disgusting and smudges are SO thick and dark.
I know there are screen protectors out there, but I'm afraid a case I will buy won't fit due to the thicker glass protector. I tried Anti-glare, but couldn't stand the graininess. Took it off, and my god, the screen looks amazing again!
I am planning to try Whoosh Screen Shine product tomorrow. They sell it at a a store close to home, so I'm gonna buy one and try. Shipping is about 5 bucks extra so no point of buying online. I will let you guys know how Whoosh works.
Any input you guys have, please leave it below. Thanks.
The problem isnt rainx or whatever. The real issue is the glass panel. It has a rough surface. This is to help the plastic asf to bond to the glass.
The glass panel really need to be buffed with a soft wheel for a while to get that crystal shininess. With a sponge and loose cotton wheel.
And after that you can apply some sort of clear coat like rainx or what you prefer. It will make a huge difference.
Really? I didnt know that! Thanks for letting me know. I'm not really knowledgeable in this buffing thing cause ive never heard of it before i read about applying rainx. Do you mind giving me steps on how i can do it perfectly on my XZU? Also, are there alternative material i can use instead of buffing wheel? Like stuff you can find commonly at home. Thanks, so much.

No no. This is not a thing you will do if you are not experienced with the whole process of things like painting, buffing and working with glass as in this case.
If you know someone who are experienced with these kind of things or even better. Who perhaps works in an Automobile paint shop you can ask if they are willing to take an hour or two to do your phone.
Back and front.

Oh..I see. Ah.. im pretty disappointed. I just ordered a case but Im not sure if a glass screen protector with oleophobic coating would fit.
Do you know any other solution to reduce fingerprints? Will oleophobic coating work on this glass with no asf film? I'm not sure uf Whoosh would work now that you told me this info. I'm now hesitant to spend money on Whoosh. Not sure if they accept retuRNs if I spray and use it to try it.
Do you have any other solution for me? Thank's again.

Im using a mocolo screen protector. It works great. This is my second set I bought.
http://glass4m.com/product/mocolo-premium-tempered-glass-screen-protector-for-sony-xperia-z-ultra/
It makes the phone more rigid because this phone is easy to bend so this is a good thing . And it adds a bit of weight as well

Thanks for the suggestion. I already bought this case
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/for-...ce-suit-Metal-protective-skin/1864985391.html
And I think glass screen protector is too thick for my phone to fit in this case. I like the feel of metal way more than glass or this back panel with asf film, so I'm trying this case.
I have a good news though. I actually bought Whoosh! yesterday and tried it out. Its works so much better than the rainx alternative UltimateX I had. Sure there are still some fingerprints but its definitely reduced. Not too mention my screen is almost germ free now, and the product is completely natural. I really like it. Anyone reading this should try it too. Its pretty cheap.

Ah. I used to use cases before but I always ended up removing them all the time. Nowadays I only use powercases. I got two 5000mAh cases. Perfect to run in a cycle. One charging and other one is in use and when I get home I switch to the other one recharged and so on
