[Q] multi-user access to SD Card - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I'm using a xperia z3 tablet compact since a couple of days. Now that I've added a secondary user (multi-user), I'm struggling with SD card access.
Both users have full access to the SD card! Which I don't want.
I've changed the camera settings, so that all fotos are saved on external storage. But now all users are saving the fotos at the same place!
I was only able to find threads that only the first user has access to SD card and all others don't have access at all... And according to some android documentation each user should have it's own space on the SD card (sorry, I'm not allowed to post outside links yet).
How can I use this multi-user setup with isolated external storage for each user?

I've updated to lollipop 5.0.2 and still have the same issue. All users have access to the sd card. Even the new guest account has access to photos taken by the main account!
Did nobody else face this issue?

same problem on my note 8. did you find any solution ?

No, I wasn't able to find a solution.

no reply since 2017, so I guess still no solution ..

[Q] Emulated SD card? How the phone perceives SD and internal storage

Hi,
It is my first Sony android phone (with a SD card slot). I was wondering if this oddity with internal storage and SD card relationship is across all Sony androids, or unique to ZU.
Basically, when I use Astro File manager, it looks like there are 2 SD cards mounted. I guess SDcard0 is the internal storage, and SDcard1 is the actual SD card.
Now, I also see an ''emulated'' SDcard, whatever that is.
MY MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT NOT ONLY DO I NOT UNDERSTAND THE WAY IT IS LAID OUT, I ALSO CANNOT MOVE APPS (and more importantly, massive data that goes for these apps) TO SD CARD TO PRESERVE INTERNAL STORAGE.
All those apps in play stores don't seem to work, because none of them actually recognise an external SDcard storage in y Z ultra.
Do I need to wait for ZU to be rootable so that these problems can be overcome?
Or is there a neat trick to get around this?
Thanks in advance

Once rooted you can use an app like foldermount, but you are going to have to wait for the root to be released first.

Thanks! Please tell me that it is a matter of time before Z ultra is also rootable. If so, I can wait patiently:fingers-crossed:
Has there ever been an unrootable android thus far?

Hi, still waiting for my XZU. BTW, what do you mean that your apps can't recognize the external storage? My experience with other phones with 'emulated' internal storage didn't prevent the apps from recognizing the 'real' external SD card.. There is usually also an option to choose which storage is used as default - at least on my previous huawei ascend P1. Can anyone confirm this on their XZU?
edit: as default here means as the main storage for apps data (picture for camera apps, downloads from browsers, downloadable content for some apps, etc), not the installed apps and system data

What I meant by 'not recognising' (I could have phrased it better) is that yes, I can access it from any apps except that they are labelled as SDcard0 and SDcard1. What I tried to say was that for those not familiar, it seems confusing. If the internal memory is actually an SD card hidden away deep inside, I can kind of understand, but the way this phone is set up, it looks as if there are 2 external SD cards (which of course, there aren't) and no internal storage.
If there is a way to choose where certain apps can store their relevant data, I would like to know how for VIBER, Beyond Pod (podcast player) and Androrec (call recorder). I am assuming that there is no systematic way of selecting storage destination (via android or Xperia interface), and that these apps don't offer such features in their settings, and that we need to wait till the day some hard working genius figures out how to root the ZU.
Where?

When installing apps off playstore, where is it saved? sdcard0, sdcard1, extsd, emulated?
When using foldermount, what should be the destination folder (to mount it on my external sd card)?
I really want to know more about those storage locations because it confuses me all the time especially some of them contain the same files
Thank you

Using solid explorer and things are far more clear on it (recognize directly which is what) but to make it simple:
-SDcard0 and emulated are the internal memory
-SDcard 1 and extra are your SDcard
So if you wish to move an app to your SDcard send it to SDcard 1.

[Q] LG Realm 4.4.2 - Setting SD Card as Primary Storage?

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a Boost Mobile LG Realm. It turns out this phone only has 1gb of internal storage. I popped in a micro sd thinking it would solve the issue. It turns out that you cannot save apps to the SD card. Shoot, some of my apps don't even have the option of setting the SD card as the primary save location.
I have done some research, but alas I still need some assistance. Can someone tell me how I can use my SD card as my primary storage on Kit Kat 4.4.2? I have discovered that my phone has an emulated external storage so that it stops the SD card from being used as a primary storage.
I have successfully rooted the phone via Towelroot, and I have frozen/uninstalled some bloat ware using Titanium Backup
Edit: I have attached my vold file via dropbox: dropbox com/s/ihpfoo4h79kaphx/vold.fstab?dl=0
Like I said I have done some research and the code in my vold file does not match the ones in the guides.

Your gonna be kinda stuck. While you can move the apps to sdcard with a few tools the app data will still be on the internal storage. There are a few ways to move that also but due to the way sd cards work on Android it kills app performance and may even stop the app from working all together. This is due to android removing all sd card code from stock Android and each OEM has to add it back on their own so coding is different from one device to another.

Integrating SD card with the internal memory in Galaxy J500h

Hi, So I have my J5 phone which is in Marshmallow. I have already rooted it. The only problem with this device is that the internal memory is just 8GB and I have debolated the phone memory. But I use many different apps and still the space is not optimal. Some apps are downloaded to the Internal Memory by default and cant be moved. Others try to get back to the internal memory or do so when updating them. I use a Samsung 32GB micro sd card ultimate 70 MBPS. And I want to either have all the downloaded apps to go to the sd card (Found some app where linking to SD card was possible but it asked to create and new partition and I did create a new one but I could figure how to use it) or have the SD card integrated with the internal memory, which I heard is available in Kitkat and above. For the second I used the app root essentials which said it could do so. So I did use it I don't know what is did after that but the SD card when inserted was asked if to be used as internal memory. I did so. But the problem was that in the memory section of the settings when I look at the space the internal and external memory did combine, but the apps still went to the internal memory and the frequent irritating msg that says memory is low or whatever keeps on coming up. I would really appreciate is some one could help me with this. Else I will manually move the apps to SD card for the rest of this device's life.
Thanks for reading, (pardon me if there is any problem with the way I have written the query I am not a native speaker)
Have a great day.

I don't have this device but, I believe that one or more of the following threads may be helpful for what you are looking to do and don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within one of them.

Z798BL Having trouble with moving apps to sd card.

Hi all!
I am using a ZTE Majesty Pro LTE Tracfone (Z798BL), and I am running stock android 6.0.1 un-rooted. (Can't update it. It just shows latest version.) ZTE blocks users from formatting SD cards as adoptable, but I was able to do so through ADB. The only problem is, only one app can be moved to the SD card. With the other apps, It just doesn't show the Move to SD Card button. Is there any way to move more apps to the SD card?
Thanks!:
How did you manage to enable Adoptive Storage on this phone? I really hate that they disabled it.
If you can help me enable Adoptive Storage, I'll check to see if I run into the same problem.
Some of the reasons why you can't move an app to external is because it might be a system app? I have Adoptive Storage on my old previous phone active, and I come to learn that I can't move every single app to external. It really sucks. At least back before Marshmallow came out with the feature Adoptive Storage, I used Link2SD. Now that, I vaguely remember being able to move literally every app but it was recommended to not move the system apps. However, Link2SD required root. Last I check years ago, they never updated it for Marshmallow.
Adoptive Storage I noticed only is useful because if it's a game your installing, it'll automatically be installed on the external MicroSD card, while everything else the smaller apps gets installed internally, and it's tedious to go to through each one to check if you can manually move it to external.
I honestly don't remember. I used some tutorial with adb commands. I hate that zte blocked this on this phone, and then send the phone with 8gb.

Moving or installing apps on SD Card on Huawei MediaPad T3 10 with Nougat

Hello! The tablet doesn't support moving apps to sd card but I thought as it is with Nougat it will allow me to set sd card as Internal. But according to this post (see the last replies) Huawei's Mediapad with 4.1 (EMUI) and above doesn't support this anymore. Is this true? Also if I don't set as Internal but set as Default Location (this video), will this allow me to install apps on sd card and is there a possibility I to lose my current apps which are now on Internal storage? Nougat with EMUI 5.1.2.
The tablet is non rooted and I don't plan to root it.

Is this still an issue?
Setting SD card as default location doesn't allow you to install apps on the SD card as such, although some app data are then automatically saved there. Changing the default location shouldn't affect any previously installed apps.
Another option, which I myself haven't tried yet, is in the developer's options (activated by pressing the build number 7 times) - the option before last overrides certain values in order to allow apps to use external storage. Worth a try!
Thank you for the information but when the option is pressed in order to turn it on it does return the way it...greyed out.
Any other possible solution.
