Anyone else experience this? I replaced the screen (cracked) 2 years ago but this just started recently. It doesn't usually even boot most times and when it does it's not for more than a few minutes then I get this. Not sure if this may be motherboard issue but any ideas would be greatly appreciated...I love this phone and want to get it working again. I won't let it die like this.

This doesn't look like a firmware issue to me. But then what do I know?
Anyway, the standard trouble shooting step would be to flash back to stock and see if the behavior continues. You might try putting the phone into download mode first without flashing anything, to see if it will have the same problem after a few minutes, because if the phone does this during the critical part of a flash, no telling if the flash would be good or cause a brick.

Hey guys just curious but has anyone else had any problems regarding to the phone just randomly switching itself off and then back on again? This has happened to me a few times now and thought i'd see if anyone else had, had this happen to them and knew what was causing it or any information at all really.

I saw you debranded your phone.
Those restarts happened before too? If yes, you might want to send it to warranty.
If no, is the new firmware so, you might want to flash the old firmware again
Yeah sorry i should have mentioned that the random restarts occurred before and after the debranding. I think I may need to send it in
this same thing is happeining to me?? like once a day??? its really wierd...
I haven't debranded or anyhting and it has only started happening for the past week or so (I've had the phone for a month)
It happens to me when I connect my phone to my PC via USB and select "Mount".

sadly this is a hardware issue... Whenever the phone warms up a little bit.
I didn't have that issue in the first months but ever since then and more and more frequently. Right now I'm fighting with o2 to get a new device, because this doesn't seem to be repaired.
Do the following test to make sure you have that hardware-bug:
Let the battery charge for a while. When you notice your phone getting a little warm, open a few applications (google maps, navigation, mediascape) whatever... The phone should immediately restart itself.
When you remove the battery cover it might also smell a little burnt.
Congrats... You're affected and it's only gonna get worse...

Well... I have this phone since yesterday... I plugged to the computer with Kies, and well, a update was available... now the phone have Froyo and the aesthetics changed completely, it looks awesome.
But, the phone have this ANNOYING problem that, after using it... like 5~10 minutes of no activity, when I try to use the phone again it doesnt work... doesn't respond to any button, I have to take off the battery in order to restart it and that over and over again...
I've realized also that this happens when I'm using wifi, if I left the phone with wifi on this happens, without wifi seems to work fine.
Somebody have any clue what could be? there's little information about this issue in the internet...
I think I'm going to return it but I want to try everything I can do (without voiding the warranty) since the phone was perfect for what I wanted.

Hey. I got the same problem here. It only happened a few times when I just had froyo that came stock on my galaxy 5 but I recently installed cyanogenmod 7 and now its happening everytime I put my phone down.
So I'm guessing it may be directly related to what rom is installed? I've heard about it happening a bit to people who have 2.1 installed to.
I dont know too much but it seems the only fix is to take out battery and turn on.

Think this is called something like the 'wifi sleep of death', something to do with the rom. i'd try change the rom and see if it still occurs
Thanks for the hints tho!, but I returned the phone... it seems that is a bug related to the update of the phone, since I know that with the out of the box 2.1 version it doesn't have that issue...
You know, the mobile carriers also do weird stuff to the roms... -__-
Hey lads, so ive been here on this forum for a long time and got a LOT of resources for my note and other phones so thank you ALL for that over the years. Now onto my problem. I started having the reboot problem where it will automatically reboot after a few seconds of booting up. I know there are threads concerning this and the usual suspect is the power button, concerning which I have messed with it, cleaned it, kissed it, caressed it, (ok seriously now) i shaved it down a bit so it wont be making unnecessary contact. I even removed the button completely. The first time i did it it seemed to work for a couple days but then it started again. I saw threads indicating it could be a battery issue as well so i ordered a new oem battery and unfortunately that didnt work either. Im just about ready to toss it (no warranty) but i thought i'd put this out there in case any 'higher level' users here may have any final insight to give me before i do that. I always appreciate advice and help of any sort so I'll go ahead and thank you all in advance

Edit: oh and it doesn't happen in recovery or download mode. It just stays on no problem. I have flashed new and original roms, kernels, recoveries using odin etc. all to no avail
So I recently got my old bricked evolte replaced by Sprint. The one I was given worked fine the entire time the device was powered on. However, once turned off and back on, its screen would not work. It stayed like this for hours, until I finally started playing with it and realized it would come back on after playing with it for a little bit. I also found out that with this error the home screen pops up for a second when powering on your device, and that's exactly what I had. I read up on the error and found out it was a software error, and to reset to factory settings. So, this fixed it, I thought.
So now, after it is apparently fixed, it still does this to some extent. It will do this if the phone has been powered on for a while, and the screen won't stay off for more than like 2 or 3 minutes. Also the home screen doesn't pop up any more like it used to with the other error.
So what should I do? I was thinking of going to Sprint, but my problem is hardly reproducible. It only happens when it's been powered on for a long time, and won't do it twice in a quick succession. I feel that even if I could show them the problem, they might think they've fixed it when they haven't because it won't do it twice. I would like to root my device, but I'm afraid they're going to say that I'm the cause of the problem if I do that. If it's just a software problem though, maybe flashing a custom rom would fix the problem.
What do you guys think? What do you think is the best course of action? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Never mind, I didn't know Sprint would order you a new phone if it was a minor problem like that. I thought they would only repair yours. So feel free to close this thread.
My Verizon XT912 has done some strange things over the last few days. Firstly, when we went in to upgrade another phone, my service was interrupted about every 10 seconds or so, switching between 4g to 3g to no service and the only way to get it back was to restart the phone. Even then, the phone would only get signal for a few minutes, ultimately resulting in no service. Now, even on the stock rom, will not display a signal in an area where all of our other phones display full 4g signal (I have the triangle outline with the crossed circle) and the phone restarts when any app is selected, or even when left alone. I personally think something failed on the motherboard. What do you think?
I have the same phone and am having the same problem. I am pretty damn good with phones and have had a long time to mess with this one so know it pretty well. I have had this problem before and was able to fix it using RSD although I had to try many times. I tried a ton of different things and in the end have no idea what fixed it. I highly doubt it is a hardware problem, as when I fixed it the first time the phone was much faster than it had been in a long time. I am convinced it has to do with roms/partitions and the way the stock rom is flashed to it through fastboot. Right now I am once again for the 4th time stuck with this problem and when/if I come up with a better answer for you and other people I will make a thread with all the details I have about this specific problem and how to fix it because there are a lot. One thing I know is that anytime I have had this problem SU of any kind had serious issues, no matter what app (Superuser/SuperSU), or rom, or slot I was using, hence the theory it isn't inherently hardware related... that and the fact that I fixed it twice months ago, a couple days ago, and am stuck on it now. I hope to have some more info for you and everyone else on this soon as I haven't been able to find ANYTHING related to this so far after many many many hours of searching. If you or anyone else has anymore info on this or that might in some way help with this please post it here. I will be watching this thread for a while.
