Yes, another battery life thread but this one is a recent development for me.
I bought the phone on release day so I have some track record with it. I have not had any trouble with my battery life and have always been able to make the day on a charge. However, recently the Cell Standby and Phone Idle has been sucking my battery dry MUCH faster than in the past.
I unplugged my phone this morning and headed out to work as I do every day. I grabbed my phone at around 10am and saw that the battery was down to 58%. I checked that stats and this is what I saw:
Battery Level 58%
3h 46m 59s since unplugged
Cell Standby - 27%
Phone Idle - 20%
Display - 20%
Bluetooth - 11%
Android System 9%
Other stuff that was nominal >5%
Is this normal? Why would Cell Standby and Phone Idle suddenly be draining the battery when it didn't do it before?

More info on your rom? do you have Wifi calling APP? If you have a custom rom, did you do the battery recycle?
Thanks for the reply...
I am on the stock ROM (rooted). I am not ooposed to flashing a new ROM but I definitely don't want to DECREASE my battery life which is what I have seen occurs with some. Are any of the custom ROM's proven to increase battery life?
I don't have Wifi calling and I haven't done the battery recycle. I fell out of 'tweaker' mode a while back and have just been using the phone. I don't think I have even installed any apps since (or before) my battery life seemed to change. About the only thing different is the Market but I don't think that's a problem.
I just looked and it's down to 38% in 6h 24m and I haven't even touched it. It's rediculous. Something is like a parasite in my phone and I don't know what it is. The only thing running in the "Active Applications" is Launcher Pro but that was one of the first things I installed when I got the phone.

Nero V3 is great for battery life. Also check if you added some apps in the past few weeks. Might be some background sync process taking too much of battery life while in standby.
i've had this issue before and i've found that it was always a rogue app. your best bet is to start uninstalling or freeze them in titanium to find the one that is screwing you up.
one app that was my latest standby hog was beautiful widgets.
Thanks for the tips! I will start removing some apps and see if that helps.

I am not up to speed on the various ROMs. I will go start reading up but is Nero V3 fully functional (camera, GPS, etc.)? I was keeping track of the progress on all of the ROMs but there are now so many and they are updated so frequently it's tough to keep up (at least for me).
Thanks again!
Oops. Double post.
i'm sure it's an app that's causing that. I think a stock rom won't drain that too much.

It may not apply, but I've also noticed that beautiful widgets is a hog.

What has been people's experience with battery life with the different ROMs? I've been on AOKP for awhile, and the battery, quite frankly, sucked compared to stock. I'm currently on PA and am getting just under stock. For me, battery life is first priority, even if there is occasional stutter. Testing battery life takes a long time, so I just wanted to see what others have been seeing. I would stay on stock, but I really want Tablet UI and real setting toggles.

Disable Google Now and see if that helps, totally did on my HOX and I've yet done it to my Nexus but I've not used it enough to actually deplete a battery yet.

You sort of want your cake and eat it too. If you want a ROM full of features and packed full of unicorn blood and the tears of leprechauns something is going to have to give and that will always be the battery life.
I use pa ...I charge my tablet every other day

Ktoonsez Kernel: Underclock to 1.3Ghz
Disabled: Google Now, GPS,
Freeze: all stock apps I don't use, Magazine, books, currents
Battery Life: 4 days.
I read a lot.
Don't game.
Watch videos with zero stutter.
I finally charged my tablet last night. Im at 82% in 8 hours.

I'm addicted to my tablet... I've been using it without stop for the last three hours. This are my results with Paranoidandroid:
Very similar with stock though. I think I could upload some as well.
I'm pretty sure this is stock. Not a lot of difference as I said. Both of the images are with very heavy usage, I mean, screen on all the time, but almost the lowest brightness. With the screen off I get almost no drop.
(I couldn't attach the image in the previous post)
Battery life will always be a combination of idle drain + screen on drain. THe most important is obviously how long you can actually use the tablet (screen on time), but you also need good enough idle drain to not lose hardly any charge between when you use your tablet.
The more features you add the less battery life usually is. So either keep PA so you have the tablet UI or use a ROM that is very close to stock, like the stock ROM from scrosler or Muzzy's ROM.
A kernel can also have greater effect on battery life. If you want the best battery then go with KTManta kernel. Use either PegasusQ or ktoonservative governor and add in some undervolting to lower power draw. Using this combination I was able to get over 13 hours of screen on time in 1 charge. Idle drain was about 1% every 8-9 hours.
Personally, I've found that my battery life has improved maybe 10% since running cyanogenmod. If I'm really lucky I can get 7 hours SOT. Not a huge improvement over stock, but its definitely better.
Its worth noting that I use the "performance" CPU governor, which is supposed to be a battery killer. Strangely it doesn't seem to make much difference for me though, it just makes everything quicker!

Well, it is difficult to notice a higher battery drop when it is already insane... XD. Well, according to battery widget I'm getting around 8h with the screen on, which is not bad.

I've used the "battery widget" for a very long time and that app is a battery drainer. Got way better battery life uninstalling that app.
Wow, just got my G2 on Friday night, and yesterday I was sitting around the house on WiFi all day, playing with it, I got maybe 12 hours out of it, before it was down in the teens.
Last night I charged it fully, woke up, unplugged the phone 100% battery, now 2 hours later it's down to 89%, and all I did was surf XDA and some websites for maybe 20 minutes all on WiFi.
I need to root this thing, and install CleanROM, and debloat this beast, because with a 3,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 800, I expect way way better battery life.. I am looking for Note 2 battery life, that thing could go 36 hours without sneezing.
Is it the ton of bloatware on the phone from ATT + LG killing the battery ? I am shocked at how much bloat this phone has, it's over the top with bull**** apps I never want on here, pretty ridiculous.
If you had taken the 2 minutes it took for you to write up this rant and look for the battery thread you would have seen the G2 has amazing battery life. You are obviously doing something wrong.
Give it some time to settle before deciding anything. Mine actually took three-four days and some reboots before it calmed down, and now I have about twice the battery stamina compared to HTC One (which I threw in the dumpster btw) .
Could be hardware issues. I had my G2 for a week now, and I tell you what the battery is amazing. I can easily get 4-5 hours of screen on time with 24+ hours battery life, and that's with stock. all sync (fb, whatsapp, twitter) with a few tweaks. I am coming from Nexus 4 and very impressed because with G2 I literally have a double battery life.
And also G2 is very fast charging. Only take 2 hours to charge from 10 - 100%. That's amazing!
My battery is getting better every day. Yesterday I got 14 hours of use, 5 1/2 hours screen on time, and an estimated 2 1/2 hours to go at 15%. Definitely the best so far. With more tweaks, I'm wondering how much I can get today.

I had some bad battery life initially. I found the biggest culprit of battery drain in my case was CarrierIQ. After rooting the phone and disabling the CIQ, my battery life has been great. It goes 24+ hours easily and it seems it can run 40+ hours though I haven't tried it.

The battery life is love and hate on this phone for me. The love part is the battery life on this phone is great. The hate part is you have to turn off a lot of things to get that great battery life.
I've never had to turn this many things off to get good battery life on any other phones that I've had. I have to completely turn off anything location related which is a big bummer for me. I always like to have a clock/weather widget on my home screen but it never updates with all of the stuff that I have to turn off.
It's one of the few reasons why I'm moving to a Note 3. But when you heavily tweak the system, you can get fantastic battery life out of this phone. Good luck!

[OFF TOPIC]
yet another topic's title that would detract would be buyers.
This phone has the best battery life of any phone I have ever had, stock. Even better than the Note series. Clearly user error
Battery life issues are so variable between two use scenarios it's like comparing apples and oranges. As others have said, battery life is pretty damn amazing for this phone.
Post some results from GSam battery monitor or wake lock detector to help you sort it all out.
I am still running stock, not rooted or ROM'd yet. Right now I am at 8h 29m total usage off a 100% charge this morning. Current battery life is already down to 35%, and only 2h 49m On Screen Time, and I have been on WiFi all day. I have GPS off, sync off, no e-mail or Facebook stuff installed yet.
Might as well give you a fast screen shot of mine
People with great battery life vs those with poor. Do you think its mainly settings and a good ROM or root with bloat deleted ?
Or is it hardware related ? Bad phones from factory shipping with damaged batteries or hardware ?
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Battery so poor, I might return my G2 for a Galaxy S4 instead, for the removable battery.
Just shocked I'm barely getting any better battery life than my Nexus 4, which got 4h On Screen time, and over all only 12 hours usage
Do I have a bad phone ? Or just stock is screwed up and I should factory reset, or better yet, root and install CleanROM ?

Just curious to see what the battery life is for everyone who has upgraded to lollipop either by VZW OTA or through JASMINEROM stock 5.0/5.0.1 rooted.
Battery Life is terrible for me on the lollipop 5.0, hardly comes for about 10 hours.
I think we need the next update immediately...
1.5 hours off the charger. On the phone for an hour, battery says I only have 7 hours left
maybe your issue too?
so im new to the note 3, my boss gave me one which is a huge upgrade over my old razr hd (i do miss unlocked bootloader though). anyways i noticed the phone sucked the battery dead pretty quickly but assumed it was bc of the big screen. one thing annoyed me, it constantly said searching using gps in the notification panel. after doing some searching i found that if i turned off the weather widget on the lockscreen (setting->lockscreen->additional information-> uncheck weather) that it stopped searching for gps all the time, giving me annoying notifications about it every 3 secs and my battery life was greatly improved. hope this helps someone

Don't forget to use the app greenify. It can really help with battery life.
I personally did a factory restore after the update. I have had over three hours screen on time with little mods like disabling apps/bloat and also disabling things like quick glance and such. I am even using bluetooth with my pebble watch. coming from an LG G2 with a 3000mah battery and smaller screen this is awesome. The lollipop update was terrible on the G2

I went from being 8 hours off charge to completely dead regardless of use pre-LP to ~20 hours with typical use post-LP. Stock battery and no changes made.
I think i had 12 hours with 8 hours screen on time the other day
About the same, 2 days of use with ~8 hours screen time.
No problems here
I *was* initially having problems since I kept leaving certain settings on unnecessarily. I like to crank up the brightness when I'm near a charger at home or in the car so that I can easily see the screen and basically ooh-and-ahh myself with a showroom look. Leaving it all the way up all day was curtains for the battery life obviously, and that's just me. People truly mindful of getting mileage out of the battery are no doubt more careful.
What has helped is that I try to be mindful of what settings I have enabled, and have gotten stellar performance after a day or two of receiving the update. I find that it's a matter of making sure WiFi is off if you're not on a network. I keep my screen brightness on "Auto," and can live with the slower performance when in power saving mode. Sucks not having root and UPSM anymore, but I can live since I rarely made it down to 20% battery life before anyway.
Your mileage may vary with the Sync setting since if it has trouble getting signal, it may get stuck in a loop and chew up battery. I don't know if there are any radio issues caused by 5.0, but I haven't noticed a difference in signal - I get as good of coverage as one can ask for in Central Ohio, and this still seems to be true so far. Anyhow, signal "hunting" has always caused the most trouble for battery life for me on several different devices.
Hope this helps...
Battery life on my mom's Note 3 is pathetic on the Lollipop update. She would go a whole day with about 40% left and now it goes from full to dead in 45 minutes. It's GPS causing the issue. She used to leave GPS on at all times on 4.4.4 back when it lasted a whole day to 40%. Now leaving it on causes the sub-1-hour battery life and with it off it still drains faster, the end of the day leaves her with a mere 20%. The 5.1 update definitely needs to be pushed ASAP.

She wants her weather updates though, it tries to update GPS info literally nonstop so it absolutely kills the battery. I'm going to downgrade her phone back to 4.4.4 for her next time I'm home.

im 90% sure its the weather widget on the lock screen pinging gps, at least it was for me. i even checked my routers log and it was pinging the weather server nonstop too. i would just deactivate it and download another weather lockscreen widget from the playstore. 5.0 is too smooth to downgrade in my opinion

Alright I'm having her try that out to see if she can leave GPS on now, however she's told me about her phone saying she has no signal randomly and that phone calls randomly drop. Sounds like the update has a poor radio firmware too. Anyone else have this problem?

Noticing poor battery life after upgrading to the Jasmine 5.0 ROM. Upgraded to Jasmine 5.02 and now I'm just deciding on when to wipe data and start from scratch.
The highest battery users were all applications, the Android OS and finally the Screen. I believe this clearly suggests that there's a battery drain bug with some of the app restores that were done after upgrading.

Sort of a general question, but I'm wondering, has anyone been able to achieve good battery life on a stock based rom? (Jasmine, Skydragon etc). I love the LG camera, so I've been sticking with stock based roms, but I've tried everything imagineable to try and save battery on this phone and I can't seem to do it. The best I've been able to get out of this phone is right under 4 hours of screen time and I'm losing about 2.5% every hour when the screen is off. Wakelocks and other battery monitors don't really show anything crazy going on that I can tell, but the culprit seems to be Android OS (as usual).
I've heard of lowering the resolution saving some juice, but I'd rather not do that if I didn't have to. I've got greenify, amplify and other minor tweaks running. Anyone been able to find a real way to increase battery life on this phone? I'm tempted to get a new phone if I can't fix the issue. My old S4 used to get 6+ hours of screen time easily.
try downloading jasmine lollipop with xposed using greenify module. use STOCK kernel. ive seen better battery using the stock kernel than using skydragons. delete amplify because ive found that it drains battery rather than saving it. buy greenify if you have a little cash. and greenify some system apps. I sometimes get 5 and a half hours sot.
