Hello everybody,
I have been lurking around in the shadows here for a long time and i thought i would pop in and hopefully get to learn some new tricks.
My wife has a S3 mini GT-I8190 with a damaged usb port and i have been given a replacement one by a friend but it is locked to a different network.
I am wondering if i can transfer the OS and files from one phone to the other in much the same way as cloning a hard drive on a PC or laptop prior to upgrading the drives. This i have done many times with windows and linux systems so i wondered if the same procedure exists in the mobile world.
I have rooted the donor S3 and now i really don't know where to go.
Thanks for the great forum and i really hope i can contribute and assist others in the future.

Hi,
Looking for a bit of advice. Wanna give my old i5500 to my mother cos she's been looking at smart phones but is still a bit tentative about making the move over from her old nokia brick
Phones currently rooted and running cm 7 but was wondering if anyones come across a simple rom out there that'll give her a basic smartphone setup to start with or even a few app that mite be useful either.
Hi all, so it seems our device isnt getting much support or anything so I've decided to take the plunge try to learn something about porting and see if i can port something to our device... for me its not such a risk as the phone was basically a gift so if it gets bricked ill be sad but not end of the world sad...
so first off i have a few questions
1 the code name all the phones seem to have dev codenames... and of course i notices in the jmz kernal we are downloading the a3ul kernal. so is this the actual name for our phone.. i ask because there are some stock roms and i thought i could maybe make these the base to start from...
2 can you give me some ideas of comparable phones i checked the htc mini one and two while close they both have different cams so i would like suggestions as to other devices so i can try downloading roms and taking them apart to see what i can find out...
3 to any devs, could you recommend some good sites to give me basics in either A)-porting a rom for us, B)-compiling a rom from some source or lastly and really hope leastly the idea of developing something myself somehow...
thanks
Im no developer, but I have recently been looking into this myself and the XDA University seems to hold some fairly thorough guides, I have just not had the time to start anything yet

preaching to the choir bud... i got 2 kids i teach full time and one more baby on the way time is one thing in limited supply.. but i really love this little device so it would be a shame if it went un-developed...
Hi everyone,
First thanks to the XDA community I'm new here, even if I know and use XDA forum for a while, and you have been always so helpful!
So I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9305), actually running CyanogenMod. I have been looking for tuts or help, in order to port the UBUNTU Touch on my device (I'm quite a noob^^), but with no success... :-/ Apparently things are almost completed for the i9300, but nothing for the i9305, which would be quite different if I'm right...
Is there any news, or any projects to port Ubuntu on this device?
I'm not an expert, but I'll be happy to help in any possible way, for porting Ubuntu Touch to i9305. I know this device is popular (like other the S3 models), and I'm also sure this would be useful for a lot of people!
Thx in advance for your answers and your help (and sorry if my english is not so good...)!
Did you find a way for the Galaxy s4 i9500
Hi, here it is about the S3, which porting project seems to be, like for the S4, more or less abandoned... It is sad and I would be pleased to know the reasons, and if it is possible to "restart" at least some of those projects.
Anyone ?
Dont think so bud
Pretty sure very few currently unsupported or older devices will get ports, what few devs are available will work on more relevant devices. Time for a new phone..
Yes, apparently porting projects are mostly abandoned... That's sad I think, according to the still important part of potential adopters (like me ) who still have their "old" flagships, and do not necessarily want to buy a new expensive phone, at this point of the Ubuntu mobile OS evolution.... but maybe I'm the only one thinking that way?
Hello everyone, I am ne to the site and forums for Android software development. I have always wanted to explore Linux OS systems and devices for quite a while but never seemed interesting and now I see that it is very valuable to know and understand. I consider myself a tech but mostly for PC, I hold an AS on Computer Electronics and current going for my BS for IT in Cyber Security and Linux pops up. I want to root my phone but it turns out that the bootloader is locked and I was wondering if I can get some help from you fellow experts. The phone is a Note 4 from ATT with android 5.1.1 installed. Is there any hope for me or can there be a solution. Thanks in advance....
Unfortunately, the chances of the bootloader getting unlocked is slim to none. The phone is close to 2 years old and no one has figured out. The people that might have the knowledge or motivation to figure it out have most likely moved on. They don't even have root yet, much less the bootloader being unlocked. For future reference, if you want to learn about modding android devices, stay away from VZW and AT&T phones. They specifically ask the manufacturers to make it more difficult to mod their phones. Sometimes there are ways around it, a lot of times there is not.
First of all I would like to say i have done a lot of reading both here and on Lenovo forums where unfortunately files and threads disappear I have done this reading long time ago and back then it wasn't possible to install Windows on the Android version of the tablet, however now after two years it seems it could be possible I see some threads about installing Windows on Yoga Books so maybe the situation around tablets evolved an its already possible.
I'm able to take some risks as the tablet is completely used at the moment and it will stay that way until it runs Windows, which i need to utilize the tablet car diagnostics which only run under windows. It would be really cool to make this work as I dont want to lave one tablet utilized and buying a new one cheap one for 100$.
Thx for your inputs !

Hey there. Have found any way to do it? If so, it will be very kind of you if you send the links and instructions. I've done some research myself. Yet no results.
