This is a little kang I did for myself and after seeing the good response in my 4.4.2_R1 aosp thread I decided to post this for everyone to try out.
It's not a hugely modified rom, its largely aosp with enough tweaks and addons to make it "just right" for me.
When I run this rom, I don't use xposed/gravitybox and turn on art. Its smooth smooth smooth.
First and foremost, big thanks to something15525 as its his rom, I just added device specific stuff and compiled for geeb.
Full features list can be found here: https://github.com/SomethingExplosive/android_vendor_SoMeX/blob/somex-4.4/FEATURES.mkdn
Quick highlights:
This rom has Superuser baked in so no need to flash SuperSU.
AOSP gesture enabled keyboard
VoicePlus - Google Voice integration into any SMS app
CM Torch built in
Busybox - helpful tools for terminal manipulation
Extended Power Menu - Reboot, Recovery, and Bootloader access from the power menu
Customized QuickSettings Toggles (WiFi and Bluetooth) - no more long press to toggle
Clear Recents Button - One button to clear everything in the recent apps display
Modded/Added by me:
Apollo
DSPManager
Removed pinyinn and openwnn

NFC fix for AT&T (Not needed anymore but left here for historical reasons):

Faux based geeb kernel option:

Down loaded and installed. Smooth, fast, and stable. I understand, that being first release, it misses some of the customization. Thanks for your work.
What is different between the included kernel and the Faux kernel?
Sweet.
So for clarity, you don't use xposed/gravity box but you do turn on art, or you also don't turn on art?

When I use the pure aosp build, I run xposed/gravitybox which in turn means I can't turn art on.
I'm running this rom now for the last few days without xposed/gravitybox and turn on art instead.
Art makes the phone even more responsive.

The faux kernel is more in line with faux's mako kernel release but with dual led green/red for canadian phones.
The included one is houstonns adreno kernel with added code for canadian phones with dual green/red led control.

The goal of this rom from the developers standpoint is to have minimal customization.
Think of it as aosp++
Just a few tweaks/addons without going insane and losing the stability and speed of aosp.

Appreciate your hard work. I was talking about simple customization such as bettery icon, time placement, quick setting tile rearrangement, etc. I wish you can add these customization.
Any trick to increase audio volume level ( I mean at max it is bit low)?
Cheers and merry Christmas.

Well, I think that this is not the ROM's goal. SoMeX is very close to aosp. If you want all that, you need either:
Another rom (cm)
Xposed and gravity box.
Cheers.

Flashed this last night on my og, and I'm liking it a lot , all though since it is not my Dailey phone I do not have a Sim card in it to check for connection errors.
Can I request a mod please, a zip to enable soft keys and disable the hardware keys?

Sorry I'm not really into doing mods for my roms, but if someone wants to come up with a zip to do these things for you it would be welcomed in this thread!
Only reason I asked was, I tried the build prop edit adding "qemu.HW.mainkey=0" and went to the generic keypad and tried disabling the hardware keys and it didn't work.
Here is to hoping some one can write up a quick zip to do this.

I was on this ROM for a few days and had no issues at all! Very well done!
I switched to Slimkat for the extra features though, and I miss the colors this ROM has! What was edited...was it the gamma, the contrast, the levels? Is there a file I can edit to get the same overall color feel that this ROM has? What values are set for this ROM so I can match it on any other ROM I happen to try?

In fact he already did most of the bringup for Slim, so apologies for dragging on this one - I know people were waiting for it.

Awesome. Of course this drops right as I'm heading out of town and can't flash, but that's how my life goes. If you're not sure you've got the right repo and such, ask the guys in the N5 thread. They often help people trying to make their own builds. Friendly bunch there. Thanks for your work on this (and of course crpalmer!).

See the post I quoted, it's fixed.
I've also fixed the keyboard issue... I guess I should play with different values, but the values used for CM didn't work... default is 4, crpalmer adjusted to 5... which worked for other ROM's. I just tried 15 for fun, and it worked.
Going to attempt 6 and see if that is good enough. I'm not sure what the negative effect would be of turning up this divider tho?
I finally got a chance to flash this and though I haven't tested everything possible, so far I've not encountered a single issue. I'm just thrilled to death. It's just like on my Nexus 5. I can't thank you, @arrrghhh (and of course @crpalmer for his device wizardry) enough.

lol, Slim likes to use a different DPI. I believe Slim is working towards a DPI updater on-the-fly... otherwise you'll have to adjust it in the build.prop.

Understood as to your statement of its utility, inasmuch as one person's feature is another's bloat. As to Groove IP rendered dead, it was given another span of life via the entity Ring.to. Swift to establish, and a host of additional numbers to grab. Works flawlessly.
I as you am dumbfounded by the superior quality of Hangouts for iOS.

I like a simple OP so ...
Just like the title says this IS and WILL be a CLEAN AOSP rom built from source, I really just build for myself but I don't mind sharing with the community.
You ask why share a basic AOSP rom?, well there are some people here that like a AOSP rom but don't have the time or the resources to build, also at one point I felt that Android in its infancy needed a lot of customization, but now its a lot better, plus with the invention of Xposed there's not enough reason to code in features when you can just download them.
This does not come with Google Apps installed you will have to install the ones you desire just make sure they're compatible with Android 6.0, and also this rom is not rooted so you will need a compatible root solution if you need root.
There is no screen shots since the is a non-themed AOSP rom, which will look like any other AOSP rom so please do not ask, and please be friendly to one another, and also please report anything broken I will try to fix it as I can.

6.0 has RRO compatibility built into the source.
All that is needed is Root and BusyBox.
Running Layers as we speak on a factory ROM.

Yeah but since it will be compatible in the near future, there is no point in adding any flashy features that are xposed-specific into the ROM.

The layers now available are for previous versions.
But there is enough working to create a dark interface. The trick is to use layer combinations.
Suggestion for dark: InversionUi, CommuteUi, Scarlett, Blackish
Start with layers for 'framework', 'systemui', 'settings' and 'velvet' only.
Existing layers(not updated) for keyboard, contacts, calendar etc, will not work or text is not readable.
In the play store is a layer manager available. I prefer to extract them manually and transfer the layer-apk's manually to /system/vendor/overlay. After a reboot the layers are active and copied to vendor/overlay.

Many have been updated for 6.0.
Right now I am using Evolve and it's partner CommuteUI. Applied through the Layers Manager app (working on 6.0) and the themes stick on reboot.
I understand if you want to bake this in to a ROM, but I'm just passing along the info that Layers works out of the box with stock factory images of 6.0 with root and busybox installed. No need to rely on AOSP or Custom Roms for Layers now. (My point basically and to answer the initial question I quoted)

No I just suggested a different approach. A layer manager is not needed. There are a lot of nice layers on 'afh'. I download/extract on the PC (add .zip at the name) and delete the layer-apk's I don't use. Transfer to 'system/vendor/overlay' and reboot is enough. So I use root explorer, but layer manager is also good.
The main point is that the device involved needs Root acces. And when you have Root there are alternative. Just sharing it with the community.

I don't use Contacts. Just unhid it from Nova and checked. You're right.
Man, I'm spoiled with touch-less interface haha. I RARELY if ever use the phone/contacts app. I just say who I want to call or speak the number. Works better with Tasker cooked in w/ Autovoice.
I also figured you were just listing another way of doing it. It's good to have multiple ways.

Envoyé de mon Nexus 6
Just a heads up to whoever is using this, there is going to be another release shortly that is much "cleaner" it won't have any of the debugging tools added nor will it have anything that can be found in the PlayStore. This next release is pretty much just barebones and you will need to get a internet browser, camera, gallery app, music app, well you will see whats not there. At any rate I feel that this gives the user more freedom on what they want installed, so this is the new format for this rom and it is complete, the only thing that will happen now is updates to make it better. Also I will be releasing my source for this too if anybody wants to rebuild and add their own spin on it or contribute to the pre-existing rom.

You know what it does not. I didn't notice that, it looks like they just gave it a facelift.
Hmmm it might not make the next version either.
This module for Android Lollipop/Marshmallow (5.x.x/6.x.x) adds the current battery percentage to the lock screen, notification shade header, and status bar. The app includes options for enabling or disabling the injected text, changing the position of the text relative to the battery icon, and changing the appearance of the text.
Note that this has not been tested on Nougat (7.x.x). As of Oreo (8.x.x), this module is no longer needed, as the battery percentage text is now properly shown alongside the battery icon when enabled in the System UI Tuner.

Nexus 5 stock 6.0.1 work OK
it seems that font size is smaller at status bar than at lock screen, don't it?
This absolutely genius module no longer works on most ROMs it used to. Probably due to framework changes in AOSP.
Can you kindly update it to work with current AOSP ROMs?
Plus, it never worked on any CM-based ROMs due to their customization.
Thank you so much.
New version (v1.1):
- Added support for unexpanded notification shade header
- Added options for customizing positions and font sizes
- Allowed injected text to receive alpha channel and color changes made to status bar elements
- Fixed compatibility issues with some AOSP and CyanogenMod-based ROMs

I've tested it so far on the 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 Google stock ROMs, CyanogenMod 13 (6.0.1), and Pure Nexus (6.0.1). Hopefully, it should work with most near-stock ROMs now.
This is an amazing module, I am loving it, thank you for doing it. It works great with the latest update in my Moto G 3rd Generation (2015) with stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It would be nice to have an option to hide the app from the launcher, as many modules have, and It would be nice to have more text sizes, or a configurable text size bar. Anyway, it is awesome, keep the good work!
Here's a quick Xposed module I whipped up to get rid of that unsightly Google Search Bar on the homescreen. I use a very generic hook point, so the search bar may also disappear in Google Now among many other possible places. I purposely do this for longevity of the patch (only one update since Sept '15). Thanks to theknut/GEL's Xposed module for providing some early hints on hook points.
(This module is not specific to the Axon, but it is my current device for testing)

I'm not sure that you can reclaim that space, as the Remove/Uninstall drop-shortcuts are there as well.

Just installed the module yesterday, I can't use that space (as jeboo said, the remove/uninstall-icons are there). I'm using a Aquaris X5 Plus, Android 6.0.1.
But, hey, that ugly search bar is..."destroyed"! ...wonderful!
Thank you jeboo (and also to theknut, even if XGels can't hide the bar within the latest Search version)!

This module is amazing. Take my money.
I would like to support development to see the space where the search bar used to be as usable space where widgets and icons can now be placed.

I think it'll go away if you just delete velvet from priv-app.
I got rid of it somehow but I dont remember exactly how.

It's hard to say what the conflict could be without more information. Do they modify any Google apks as part of their mods? I've not heard any other bug reports, of course I'm only testing on the ZTE Axon 7 and Moto X Pure.
Do people have this working on Oreo 8.1? I'm on a Google PixleI 2 and can't get it to work. Other Xposed applications are working just fine.
Any ideas?

Potentially stupid question, but why not just use another launcher? Nova Launcher let's you remove the search bar, in addition to adding about a million other features.
Certainly not a stupid option. I was using Nova on my Pixel 1 when I didn't have Xposed. I'll most likely go back to that solution.

I'll take a look once the axon7 Oreo build is released.
Any updates on this? I'm also on a Pixel 2 XL and the xposed module doesn't work. I'm also running oreo 8.1.
Thank you

I was hoping Oreo would be out by now. If I get a chance to flash an unofficial build, maybe I can update the module before the official release.
That would be so awesome! Thanks.
