Any ROM that will improve on the 10 GB free space? - G2 General

I did a fair amount of research on this phone - I was particularly interested in the camera after reading some glowing reviews. Then I got sidetracked about the large screen (for one handed use anyway), 4G. IR blaster etc. And completely forgot about checking for SD card slot.
Anyway, got a 16 GB version from ebay and realised it only has 10 GB available. So, I'm wondering if any ROMS manage to improve on that number? Even 11 or 12 GB would be better?

As I know, you must change the partitions, also in small roms like Cyanogemod (300mb or something like that) the system partition takes 2gb space. I think it would be very risky to change it. Let's hope some other person reply

Even I'm planning on buying the 16GB variant. But I'm not sure if that'll be enough for me...

Go through all the crap you plan to copy over to the phone, and skip the stuff you rarely or never use. I bet you'll have plenty of free space. Encode movies to be smaller, and put fewer of them on. No big deal.

and buy a mini 32 or 64gb dual usb/mini usb stick and you're covered...

Unfortunately those sticks consume quite a bit of battery while plugged even in idle mode (on the LG G2).

didn't notice any battery drain when i used my sandisk mini usb stick...
it's not ment to be constantly connected to the device...
i use it for bigger file transfers from pc to phone (vice versa), backups in twrp and keeping the essential files in case of bad flash or smtn...
never had it connected more than 10 minutes...
twrp backup of 3.6 gb takes some 500 seconds, and the battery went down by 1-2% max (mostly because the screen was turned on)

[Q] Arnova 10 G2 (101c): Help with couple of issues please

I am new to this tablet Arnova 10 G2 (101c). Got it like 2-3 days back. Trying to know it better, so don't flame me please.
I got the rooted firmware on through one of the bundled apps - arctools. So now, here are my questions:
1. Camera:
My camera works. But I can't see where it stores the pics. Even doing a media rescan in settings menu doesn't seem to help.
2. Internal Memory:
On the back it says the model is 4GB. But inside, when I am browsing in root explorer I see over 7 GB free. I have copied over 4 gigs of pdfs (books), and still have over 3 gigs free. Over 7 GB free space on internal SD normally translates to a 8GB model. This has got me perplexed.
3. Battery:
Installed battery calibrator. I drained the battery full until the tablet shut down by itself. Then I charged it to 100%. Used the battery calibrator to delete the batterystats.bin file. Then charged it until the light was green with the tablet off. Turned it on with charger unplugged.
I put it on a movie at about 60% brightness. After about 5+ hours, it was at about 55-60%. Then I took off the movie for some time, turned the brightness to 0, and was doing some browsing, and now I noticed battery at 65%. Battery usage details show spikes moving up while I was simply using it and no charger connected.
Is this normal? How long does it take for the battery to normalize?
Someone help me please. Even after 3 full charge-discharge cycles, my tablet when kaput from about 30 to 0 last night!

Regarding the pictures I won't help you till I have the tablet but speaking of storage you clearly got the 8gb model if you're sure there's no external (micro sd ) memory counted
Regarding the battery it seems that you messed too much with it unnecessarily and now (guessing) the battery electronics freaked out or the li-ion cells got damaged because of a deep discharge.
try to use it normally charging from say 10-50% when needed to full and after some cycle maybe it will get better ?
this isn't the Arnova 10g2 (Philly tablet) your speaking of is it?

I don't really know about this. All I did was a couple of full charge-discharge cycles, and nothing more.
And it showed ~7+ GB free on internal memory (without any sd card inserted).

SGSII Help *moving over from 4s*

So, after being an iPhone user for a while, I've finally talked myself in to making the plunge and going for android and the SGSII seems to be the best handset available at the moment. I just have a few general questions that I would like answers from you guys who know.
Firstly, when rooting and flashing ROM's does it matter if you have a white or a black version? I still havnt decided which one to get but if this is the case id prob go with whichever one is supported more.
Secondly, battery life. Can you guys give me some real life battery stats? My iPhone 4s usually goes 12 hours then it needs charged. This would normally have around 5/6 hours of actual usage and thats with brightness set to virtually nonexistant in the settings. Would the SGSII be equal to or not far off that? I've seen theres an extended battery pack available too, does that make a huge difference?
Thanks
Jon

For rooting / custom rooms black or white doesn't matter. Important is model no. like i9100 international version or AT&T version etc. most roms and customization support i9100 international version.
I have both. SGS2 and iPhone 4s. Battery life is almost similar. On standby sgs2 gives me more time. but no big difference in practical use as per my requirements. SGS2 will last a day at least if you are a heavy user like me.

Well I'll be buying my SGSII from o2-UK. Not quite sure what version it will be. The Apps i used the most are messages apps. like Whatsapp and on the iPhone it drains battery for fun!
I was originally going to go for the Galaxy Nexus. But after seeing it in the plastic/glass it wasn't as nice as I'd expected.
I'd get the Galaxy Nexus over the Galaxy SII. Just my 2 cents.
Welcome to the land of freedom and variety!
No, colour doesnt matter, both have the same hardware, the ONLY diff is the physical housing.
Battery life should be around the same as a 4S, i can get a full day and ahalf with moderate use and around 10hours with heavy usage.

I dont think it warrants the extra money, here in the UK the SGSII with o2 is £449.99 but the Galaxy Nexus is £529.99

It will be a i9100 if you get it from O2 UK.
I get between 4 and 7 hours of screen on time, upto a few days of standby time, might only lose 3-10% ish over a 9h sleeping night (when i forget to plug my phone in) (idle usage will also depend if the phone is being woken up all the time, theres a great app called better battery stats - see sig - to help find out whats causing the problems)
The big factors are:
* Type of usage, 3D gaming will use more power than texting
* Data usage, wifi uses less power than 3G
I would get the 2000mAh battery, better life, not much thicker (though it does mess with some cases), and as its an official battery you know its not fake.
I would get the nexus myself, ICS + updates from google = win.
Though the SGS2 has one of the best non nexus dev communities (imo of cause).
In general, read lots of guides if you are going to mess around with your £300 slab of electronics

As long as the USB stick is fat32 (limits file size to 2GB).
Yeh, it sounds awesome, but I have never found the need, 32GB SD card ftw! (Also MHL adaptor, when my computer was in for repairs, I plugged my phone into my monitor, headphones plugged into phone, and used it as a media player, FTW! Shame we cant do USBOTG and MHL at the same time)
The nexus is more expensive, and not really "faster" than the SGS2, the only thing is a stock ICS look.
I was going to flog my SGS2 to move to the nexus, but then by bank balance told me to stop being a twit and use a ICS theme while I wait

Whats USBOTG and MHL? Im a complete an utter noob so sorry if I sound stupid
I wouldn't leave my GS2 for a Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus has awful batt life, crap camera, weaker GPU and no memory card slot.
USG-OTG (On The Go) is the feature you are talking about, where you plug in a usb stick.
MHL is the tech used by the GS2 to do HDMI via the USB Port. Hopefuly someone can better explain MHL than i just did though, lol.

Ah I get it now!
Is 'screen on time' with Android how much you actually used your phone?
As for the battery-life I have more good news for you.
If you choose to install a custom-ROM later, you have the possibility of literally boosting your battery-life. MIUI+UC+UV=....well, my personal best was not charging the phone for three days and still have more than 60% on moderate usage.
And the second thing is the SAMOLED+ screen. While it has its downsides, the upsides make it clearly a winner when compared to a LCD. The contrast and brightness are high enough to make me use a low brightness-settings most of the time and still see everything, even if it's bright outside. This results in a better battery-life too.

Yep, the amount of time spent using the phone, doing activities that require the screen to be on.

Buy a 16gb micro sd or a 32gb sd remembering the phone has 16gb internal memory too (give or take customizations) and put all your films on your phone no need for anything else apart from a player app such as rockplayer or vital player to play back pretty much any format of video including xvid/divx and mkv with or without subtitles

I don't know, I have a 32gb card in there and I like to be able to add extra storage occasionally... Also adds to the convenience... I don't always have my usb cable for the phone but I generally carry a usb stick. Its plugged into the sgs2 adaptor so I always have that too. Good to "steal" stuff off of mates pc's without needing drivers to be installed...

You get about 4-7h screen on time, aka using it, how you spread that out over days is up to you!
Idle drain is very low as long as the phone manages to deep sleep, aka you dont have any rouge apps.

Unless you are one of the idiots that swears they need 40,000 songs on their phone then storage is fine. Battery life is great(3-6 hours screen on depending on usage), camera is good except for low light and screen is amazing.

I don't care what anyone says, having no sd card sucks. Yeah I get the whole cloud theory but sometimes, especially when you are traveling overseas that just doesn't work (thanks China for blocking Dropbox).
That being said, the device is rock solid. The screen is amazing, camera is very good sans low light conditions. Battery life is pretty good (3.5 hrs screen time, 12 hours all together). Not as good as my Galaxy S3 but much better than I expected given HTC's track record on battery life.
Root your dna,get root explorer which you will need anyway. Go to ebay or amazon purchase a female usb micro usb adapter. Purchase a flash drive which is about the same kinda storage. Zip zip takes less than 30 secs to transfer a full movie back and forth. The adapter costs $1.75 cents. Flash drives cost equal to an sd card so problem solved.
sent from my Droid DNA
Amazon has adapters for 80 cents shipped. Bought one yesterday, hoping it's good quality though.
I'd say it's definitely worth it - if storage becomes a problem, you can use the adapters that the guys above me mentioned. The screen looks great, battery and performance are above expectations, and build quality is superb.

My experience with Sony Xperia M4 AQUA so far...

-overheating issues(you can literally cook eggs on the back of this phone)
-low gaming performance, games stutter a lot, some even run with less than 20FPS(just look at this - twice cheaper phone outperforming m4)
-low available usable storage(under 2GB)
-takes forever to charge(5 hours+ via USB)
-takes forever for the camera to focus
-no way to root it
-no way to unlock the bootloader(apparently now you can)
-overall feels very laggy, unresponsive and slow
+waterproof
+decent camera
If i have to make a conclusion i'd say its the most disappointing phone i ever bought and just suggest to people to avoid it.

Overheating issues? I get a max of 60 degree Celsius, not enough to cook
Gaming and performance issues - Yea.. Sony screwed up with
.99 update
Storage space - I got 3GB free lol. But yea, I feel you.
I can charge faster than 5hrs!
Camera focus is okayish, it outperformed my friend's Mi3 so I'm proud.
Root - Almost there I think
Bootloader - It's unlockable already.
The phone isn't that too bad, just the firmware that screwed the performance. Downgrade the phone and you should get a better experience.
I mostly agree with AndyPhoenix9879
Mine doens't seem to overheat that much even after hours of 3g web browsing ( i dont play games)
Performance is a issue with 2.99 thats why i flashed back 1.100
storage is a problem but after unistalling all bloatware and disabling anything else (that i dont need) i got 2.97GB free
Charging with a 1200mAh wall charger takes no more than 2 hours, if you charge only with computer usb 5 hours is ok, pc usb gives up to 500mah so a 2400mah battery needs 2400/500 almost 5 hours
camera is just ok
root, hope it comes soon and bootloader as AndyPhoenix9879 mentioned is unlocked already.
Overheating is the biggest problem. Using camera make the phone hotter, capture picture is so slow. I'm on plan to buy a second phone while sony M4 let me down day by day.
The problem is not root. Camera with 54-100Mb/s is fast,I push button and no lag. Very good performance with firm.112 35400 in antutu. I play emulators ppsspp,reicast,mupen64 and my phone no is hot. Only when charge by USB and I do hotspot wifi and ftp server and play at same time because no power in USB to charge.
Is there anyway to get otg?
Like by using a powered Otg cable.
Xperia L got otg in a similar method.
.112 is the spanish generic firmware of m4 aqua.are you absolutely sure it doesn't overheat?
Yes, I'm sure. If you want I can do any test. Only hot when charge by usb for many hours. My phone is UK without company, with 112.
Im using newest firmware 2.99 and im not seen lags and times where phone got slow..
Overheating.. Max temp. 80*C, okay..
But bad game performance? No no no, WoTB max settings 30-50 fps, MC5 normally playable, GTA3 Normally playable.. Etc.

25% less to be exact(1500 pixels versus 2000) and costs 50% less(130 euros versus 270) , why can't it be compared?
BTW: My phone seems to get around 29k on antutu on 64bit(just after factory reset), no idea how you are getting 35k.
Downgrade to spanish firm 112 from xperiafirm with flashtool. 35400 in antutu, you will have mass storage option again amera faster and no lag. Y play ppsspp at full speed with tekken soul calibour, shenmue in reicast...
I got this phone to replace my broken s4 for a period of time. I think most of my issues with it can be resolved once root is achieved and an optimized stock OS rom is made.

Well 540x960= 500 000 pixels (approximately) for E4G. For m4 aqua we have 1280x720 which is 921 000 pixels. Almost twice more pixels for M4 Aqua to process. About the antutu result - results around 35000 were achievable with first firmware (.112). With current one more than 30000 is really difficult.
They have two totally different prices. The Snapdragon 615 is an oven, and the only thing they should REALLY improve is the focus speed and video quality.
Hubby brought a couple of these home last night to replace our seriously outdated phones (his was a blackberry that he ruined dropping it into a river, mine is a trusty old Optimus LG One that is still ticking but showing it's age). What I have seen so far
1 - came with 16gb and had 9 free so not too bad there, can upgrade with a card to an extra 128...should do me for a bit
2 - yes it gets quite warm during constant use but not unbearable, cools quickly
3- my wireless router is dieing (sigh..I loved my old DLink DR615!!!)
4 - holy freaking updates! holy bunch of crap bloatware!
5 - no pre-installed games? With all that bloatware you think they would at least have solitaire or something to kill time while updating everything
6 - camera...meh it's a phone, not a high end picture taking device but does fine to capture those spur of the moment happenings, haven't tested video yet
7 - like the display - netflix, crackle, etc all play clearly, very watchable
8. love lollipop plus the Sony overlay - they have incorporated some of the key features I used to have to download seperate apps for like silencing the whole phone with one click, move to sd, flashlight, etc... little things but it makes the overall experience nice.
9 - sound quality is decent for a midrange phone, call quality is great
10 - it's soo much bigger than any other phone I have had! First phone I had that didn't fit in my jean jacket pocket! that could cause some issues as I am very forgetful LOL
In all, no major complaints... once I get my internet connection woes sorted with the router I'll be able to download my larger games and see how it does there. For now I got Frozen Bubble installed so that will tide me over
I quite like the phone, but I'm getting a pretty strange bug - sometimes when I record a video, it comes out as black plus sound. Even in the pc I can't see anything but I can hear the sound. When I reboot, it's back to normal. It happens when I really want to record a video and then I realize that I haven't got anything. Is there anybody with the same problem?

Yeah as it might be the only solution, I can't just always do a test video and then reboot if it is black. The last time I wanted to record my squash match and then after 40min of recording it came out black. Hope they'll fix it with 6.0

Can Honor 7 be better ?

for me the answer is definitely yes. Even, it's already a very good phone.
I think it can be improved and become near perfection if it can get :
- Bigger battery(4000 or why not 5000 battery).
- mechanical image stabilization.
- an independent SD card connector.
So do you have other suggestions ?
I have found the battery in this to be the best in any phone I've used of this class - I can use it for a whole day, including 2.5 solid hours of browsing on 4G whilst listening to music on the commute, make and receive a dozen calls during the day, whilst it is paired to my smartwatch on Bluetooth - and still have 40% battery left when I get home. My old Nexus 5 would have been knocking on empty by then, if not expired!

All the above with reduced weight
I am looking forward to the rumored Premium version, with 32 Gb storage. I love everything about this phone (at this price point), but I want to use the dual sim functionality, and 16 Gb is just not enough.
A dedicated SD card slot would also make it for me.
And, hey, a better low light camera wouldn't hurt.
Maybe I should wait for the Honor 8...

Battery? I'm not sure. It would have to be bigger (at least thicker)
OIS? Yes please.
Separate SD tray? Yes please.
