I just finished updating my phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S5) using the OTA update and now my phone is stuck in an endless reboot loop. i called t-mobile tech support and they had my wipe the cache and that didn't work. they then told me the only thing left to do would be to do a master reset and LOSE ALL OF MY DATA or exchange the phone and still lose everything. i just can not afford to lose my data, especially my text messages. when i try to turn the phone on i can get to the lock screen and unlock the phone but right after that i get an error message from my custom keyboard (swype+dragon) and then the phone reboots. im thinking that it may be that one of the apps that i had installed on my phone prior to updating to LP is causing the phone to crash. can anyone help me figure out if there is a way to get the phone into a recovery mode and delete all the installed apps without me losing or corrupting my data, or if there is a way to extract the sms messages?
please please please any suggestions or recommendations would be very very appreciated.
thanks.

I would try and uninstall that keyboard app if you can, The only other way is odin back to an a previous version, and uninstall the keyboard app that you installed and or save all you data onto ext drive and then do a factory reset and then take the lollipop update.
Try flashing with
I would try flashing it again with Odin.
I flashed my S5 last night/ This morning and first flash with Kies 3.x cause the phone to boot into the boot animation and not go any further. So I reflashed it with Odin 3.09 and that resolved the issue. It just took about 10 minutes for it to update all the apps, I didn't loose any data at all. I was surprised by that. All my apps and pictures were present after the upgrade. I am liking lollipop so far.
YEAH ME!! Iz hax0red lullip00pz!
As an update I just flashed root with CF-auto-root and Odin 3.09.
Then installed TWRP with Odin 3.09 as well.
I'm back to my previous level of activity with ROOT and TWRP, but on the Stock Tmobile Lollipop image.
I did have to pull my battery to get CF-autro-root to "take" affect. This is the link I used for the instructions and the CF-Auto-Root file download. TWRP I got from a TWRP download section which can probably be found easily enough with ug00glie!

So i got this lovely update from Verizon. I rooted using the one touch but never made any changes to the phone. Still using default UI etc. Just rooted to access saves, overclocking.
So the update reboots the phone, starts installing, and fails. Then i can go to the menu and reboot the phone. It will come all the way on, and immediately just shuts down and tried the update again. Stuck in this vicious cycle. Help?
Mount the SD card either in recovery or on a PC and see if there is a PG05IMG.zip on it. Remove it if so, then reboot.

You can't install an OTA if your rooted, even if you haven't made any changes. The problem is the custom recovery (e.g. ClockworkMod)
When the update tries to install the updated recovery, it sees that the old stock recovery isn't there, and fails.
As far as recovering from that, I'm not entirely sure.
Seeing as you used the one touch root, I doubt you installed the S-Off eng bootloader. Try what the above poster suggested first.
Thanks for the replies guys. I did have s-off, but yeah ill tell you i tried what he suggested with no luck.
I ended up being ok i made another clockwork backup, did a full restore from a backup before the date of the update, then did just a data restore from the backup i had just made. Phone is back to normal. Thanks for the responses, ill give you both marks for being helpful
I'm in the same boat, except I was silly enough to not have a backup made. I do not see the PG05IMG.zip from recovery. Any other possible ways to fix this? If I have to clear all my data and start again, I'm ok with that though I'd obviously prefer not to do that.
Boot into clockwork recovery and wipe cache only.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
This same issue has happened to me with the Verizon update. Long story on how it i clicked okay to the update. I told it reject at least 3 times already.
Anyway - i was stuck in this nasty reboot cycle. I was lucky to have a backup from March when I first rooted my TB. Not having a more recent backup is my bad.
So I have worked most of today with near factory settings from my recovered backup and now I am restoring todays backup to see if I can fix this reboot BS.
I did the Wipe Cache from ClockMod and when the phone rebooted it gave the prompt to reinstall the update which I cancelled. So success!!! Now I can clean up my junk apps and do a proper backup to protect myself in the future.
Hi Guys
Awhile back i used towelroot to root my phone. Now with all the talk about the Flashlight app I want to reset my phone. The news article that I read said that if your flashlight app is over a meg in size then it most likely contains spyware. I am not able to boot into recovery mode. I have even tried to use a couple apps called Reboot Recovery and Quick Boot. When I try these two apps or use the pwr, home and vol up it boots to this screen then boots normally
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fkxyrqz1tf6daqs/20141031_014341.jpg?dl=0
The phone has nothing of importance on it because its new, all I want is to get back to factory settings. Its a Samsung Galaxy 3 (Canada)
Thanks
Rick

The size of the Flashlight app wouldn't be the main indicator. Did you get the app from the Play Store? If so, look at the permissions of the app. Does it request to look at your contacts, SMS, etc? If so, then be worried and reset. If not, then unlikely it's doing anything untoward. As far as resetting, it's odd that CF Auto Root didn't restore the stock recovery. At this point, you will want to do 1 of 2 things:
1) Use Odin to install the stock recovery.
2) Use Odin to install a proper custom recovery.
With a working recovery in place, then resetting the phone will be a breeze.
Ok i used Odin to install a stock recovery. Odin failed and now I get a messege when I reboot the phone
Firware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
Keis will not connect.
Any ideas
ok i was able to use kies to get my phone back to where it was before using Odin.
In Kies I used tools - Firware upgrade and initalization. Got a message that said the device can be initalized to its original settings. All settings and data will be deleted and the latest software version will be installed.
When it was all said and done nothing was deleted all my apps and accounts I installed were still there. I did notice that it removed root
Whats going on
I still want to reset to factory settings
anyone have another way

So after the restore, you still can't get into the stock recovery? And it sounds like you used the wrong recovery. Let me know the model number of your S3 and which build version of the software you are on and I let you know what you should use.
Thanks you were right I got the wrong recovery found the right one did it again and Im good to go
Thanks again

Hi all,
I'm trying to help someone fix their S4 that won't boot past the Verizon logo. I had rooted the phone probably a year and half ago but I never put a custom recovery or rom on the phone, as they mostly wanted to be able to use adblock, greenify, etc. The phone has been degrading slowly, lots of "SD card has been removed" errors, and now it simply won't boot past the Verizon logo. I have tried to boot into the stock recovery and clear cache with no luck. I don't want to wipe data if I can avoid it for now.
I was wondering if someone could point me to the proper CWM or TeamWin file and the best way to install it. I'm not sure if a custom recovery will even help me get it booted at this point but I figure I might have a little more luck over using the stock recovery. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
Do you know what the phone's baseband is? Chances are it's not MDK so that means to CWM, TWRP, etc. Take out the battery, put it back in and then boot to download mode then try and flash a new tar in Odin.
I don't unfortunately. I rooted it about 1.5-2 years ago. I don't remember quite well but I don't think it's been updated since, I think I froze the update notification whenever that started popping up.
Flashing it in Odin will erase all data, correct? I don't know if I have another choice at this point, just curious.
Sounds like you need to odin the stock tar. Reroot and proceede from there. Yes it will wipe user data.
I recently tried to re-install root on my device. I used the link below to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
Everything worked fine, my phone rebooted normally, said it was rooted and I went on my day. Later that day I rebooted my phone and now it wont start up. It just pauses at the verizon logo and never gets past that. I can get into the default LG recovery, but I don't know how much I can really do there.
I really need to recover some of my files, contacts, etc. If I could just fix the issue without losing data that would be better, but at the very least I need to save some files from my phone. Any ideas?
EDIT: I have done some research and found I can fix my issue if I'm able to get my phone to be recognized by my computer. For some reason the MTP USB Device driver fails the install...
Have you gotten into recovery and tried to wipe the cache?
If you can get into the stock recovery you should be able to choose wipe cache and it will take you to twrp if you have it flashed onto your phone. From there you can restore or wipe the cache and see if that helps.
Exact problem

Your hit there's no way to recover information from a soft/hard brick requires a factory flash
Hello, so I have a Galaxy S6 on Android 6.0.1 and I'm with T-mobile. I tried to root the phone using Odin first, downloaded a root checker and got the confirmation. And then I tried to get Xposed using TWRP but I had to back up my phone and all that first. After being prompted to reboot I chose an Xposed zip and since then I haven't been able to get past the Samsung logo during reboot. I've tried all the button combinations and I can get as far as the Warning screen about downloading custom OS asking to press volume up to continue or down to cancel and restart. Both of them take me to the Samsung logo where I get stuck with it flickering at me. At this point I'm panicking and waiting for the battery to drain on the blue Warning screen. Right now I have it plugged into the computer on the battery charging screen. I'm scared to turn it on and see I'm still stuck in the loop. Please help me, I cannot afford another smart phone and I had to buy this one unlocked full price. Thanks.
Edit: After turning on my phone and seeing the boot loop was still very real, I went into download mode and tried to factory reset the phone. This actually took me to the Team Win Recover Project 3.0.2-1 where is has the standard buttons for install, backup, restore, reboot, etc. At this point I am not sure what to do, I believe this is where I would want to install the Xposed zip but I am not going to proceed until I have a clear understanding on what it is I need to do.
Edit 2: I should also mention that on the TWRP recovery screen, the restore tab is EMPTY. I guess I either did not completely save a nandroid state, or didn't name it something I could find. I'm unsure on how to restore the phone to factory settings, if at all possible, with TWRP.
Edit 3: After doing some research, I've decided that my best bet is probably to download the necessary firmware for my phone, Model number SM-G920F, and use Odin once again or Smart Switch to hopefully revert back to factory settings. The problem I am now having is finding the right firmware. I'm on SamMobile but I cannot find a firmware that fits my country and carrier. I know that unstalling the wrong firmware can brick my phone so I am being very hesitant here. Can anyone help me?
I'm a bit confused...did you already install a version of Xposed that caused the bootloop or it just started bootlooping after the first reboot after it booted from the rooting process?

I only installed Xposed once, and that is when the boot loop started. I had to reboot my device two times; once for Odin, and once for TWRP to get Xposed. Like I said, I went with Odin first for the rooting process and then I used TWRP in an attempt to get the third party firmware. After rebooting for Odin I ran the root checker and everything was confirmed. If it isn't obvious by now, I'm new to this whole process and goofed somewhere along the line so there's my disclaimer. At this point I'm willing to do anything to get this phone working again. I appreciate any help.
Just run the Xposed uninstaller in TWRP.
I have seen this with my wife's galaxy s6 edge, she had dropped the phone after having it for three weeks and then the phone started to act funny. Luckily for me I did not root the phone yet so I did the button combination but instead of volume down I did volume up so I can do a complete factory reset. That had seemed to help, you can always go back to the Samsung site to get the rom you need for your phone and if its with T-Mobile which I also have, you should have no problem getting it.

I have tried the button combination that is supposed to lead to the factory reset, but this is what is taking me to the TWRP screen. What I haven't tried is finding the ROM from the site so I will try that now, thanks!

You don't need to flash the whole rom. Just run the Xposed uninstaller. It was specifically made to resolve these types of issues.

In the TWRP screen I'm not seeing anything about unistalling Xposed, do you know what tab it would be under?
You have to grab the zip from the Xposed thread. You should be able to connect your phone in recovery to the PC and drag and drop it. If not, you might need to use ADB.
Don't flash a firmware unless you are 100% sure it's the official firmware for your device. Maybe you could contact the company's website and ask for the firmware. Sometimes this works. If it doesn't search for one but be sure to flash the official one or it may cause problems.
