SD card failure - Verizon LG G3

Ok so twice now my SD card has become corrupted and have lost all data that was on the cards. At first I thought it was the SD card that I first bought since it was a cheap no name brand, so I bought a SanDisk brand and it happened again. I'm not really sure when its happening or what's causing it to be come corrupt. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I read somewhere that flashing a lot of roms or kernels will corrupt your SD card, is there any truth to that? Also I'm rooted running skydragon Rom with the skydragon kernel, I do use some xposed modules. What can I do to keep this from happening again?

i dont know whats causing it or how to stop it, but that flashing theory is complete crap.
ive flashed several hundred times a year for the past 4 years and never had a corrupt card.
the cards have a reasonable life expectancy, so over time they could basically wear out and die (never had this happen either), but nothing ever flashes to the card, so i cant imagine how that could cause issues.
the first thing i would do is use this utility to verify your card is genuine and not damaged. if it passes the test, then i would start isolating the most recent apps you have used or downloaded that may write to the card, including but not limited to the file explorer you use to move files onto the card.
eliminate or add a couple a day until you can isolate the causing the corruption. its going to suk, but if there is an easier way, im not aware of it.

I'd install SD Card Monitor from the play store to see if the card is unexpectedly unmounting periodically. I have had a device that had a problematic SD Card Slot and until I used the SD Card Monitor App I did not know that the card was getting a "Bad Removal" as the app calls it periodically. A "Bad Removal" at the wrong time could easily cause card corruption.

FWIW, I also never do nandroids directly to the external SD. I backup to the internal, and sometimes I manually move the backup to external from within the booted Android. Most of the time any more I just keep the backup on internal though. I seem to have much less often corruption of my external SD card since I started doing this.

^^^^^----- THIS!
If you are constantly backing up to your external SD, especially nandroids and you flash new ROMs like it's going out of style, you WILL reduce the life expectancy of your SD card.
SD cards have a limited life span. The more you write to them, the more wear and tear you do to them. I limit my writing now to adding new documents, copying new music and that's about it. I also store oft-used utilities there or images to flash to my phone, as well as the utilities for them, but I do not nandroid to it.
All my photos are stored on my internal memory.
I have had SD cards go out within a year. That was when I was doing a ton of nandroids to it, and in older phones, back when you could move apps to the SD card, those would go out as well since I was constantly writing app data to the SD card instead of internal memory.
How soon did they become corrupted btw? Within days, weeks or are you talking over a longer period?
Thanks!

Handling and Maintenance
A lot of people touch the contacts on the bottom of the card while they inset them, the oils from your fingers will create barrier between contacts of the phone and the card and it can cause file corruption. so I recommend washig your hands with soapy water, then pulling out the card and spraying rubbing alcohol on your sd card and drying it on a clean cloth and then holding the sides reinsert the card.
2nd thing is people don't format the card once it is in their phone. I absolutely recommend this as it is necessary to remove fragments from manufacturing formatting.
I have NEVER had a card fail me by following these two steps, and I've transferred thousands of songs and movies, and roms and backups over my cards through the years. The latest is a 32gb Samsung Evo Micro SD and i've NEVER had a problem even writing 4K video to it with my G3. Usually file corruption is user error. SD cards need maintenance. and if you copy and delete files constantly, including backups, I recommend a reformat of the card in your phone AGAIN as file fragments are left over and will cause corruption. MD5 sums are big because people don't know how to format regularly. Cheers

most of whats written here are absolute myths. Apps won't permanently corrupt your card, neither will nandroids and the cards if they are not cheap fakes are good for 10s of thousands of write cycles. What will damage your card are physical impact pressure, heat, and static electricity, bad formatting, bad partitioning and simple failure which does happen occasionally. Obviously removal and transport expose your card to more risk of physical damage.

Hi have a Lexar class 10 sd card that I purchased ~6 months ago for my Evo. Had issues with other cards, and this was the one card that was rock-solid for me on the EVO.
This morning, my Photon started acting very laggy. Programs would refuse to launch, and it was generally having issues.. Upon rebooting, my sd card was gone..
In windows, the sd card has a partition, but requires formatting now this card was rock solid for me in the EVO, so concerned that it died within 24 hours of having it in the photon

No issue here from my 2 year old 8gig and it has been in since Sunday.

I had problems with the same microsd card, and wound up having to RMA it. I've heard of others who have had similar failure issues. I'm highly skeptical that the Photon actively caused it, as opposed to just poor coincidental timing.

it was corrupted to the point of not being able to see it in windows
A recovery program that I tried (EASUS recovery) showed the files and gave me the option of recovering them, but since I didn't have much on there, I opted to just format it..

While I do not know about the wintec card, but the Lexar one has been known to do this. There are a few xda threads scattered throughout the forum as well as over in Amazon that have mentioned the card as well as a few others that work for a while and then poof they act like this. it seems to be common with 32GB class 10. Another one that has issues is Patriot (see xda thread) but at least Patriot has acknowledge the issue.

FYI. Estrong's File Explorer does not work correctly on the Photon. I have a 16gb sd card and Estrong's File Explorer will only detect 8gb of it. Use the factory installed file manager instead. I thought my card got wiped when I first got my Photon but that was the culprit. Windows showed all my files still intact.

All I know is that when in Estrong's File explorer I can switch between sdcard and phone memory and it only sees 8gb of my 16gb card. Im very familiar with Estrong's File Explorer. I've been using it quite a while. Not sure what else it could be because the stock file manager on the Photon sees all 16gb of my memory card.
If you're not seeing internal phone memory, internal SD card, and external SD card) three separate locations) then you're just not accessing the SD card correctly.

I have a microSD card in my phone and I don't have any problems with it not recognizing it. Maybe you have a bad card. Make sure the card works or the files you have are corrupted.
I a Sprint Product Ambassador and would love to look into this further to help. I need to narrow it down to any specfics I can get. So...
To anyone having the issue:
What was the brand? (i.e. Sandisk, Lexar)
Size of the card?
Any other information that may be pertinent.
One thing I noticed about file explorers in general, esfile explorer, astro, etc, they detect the internal memory as the sd card and not your actual sd card.
Also, I reformatted my sd card from my 3vo after backing it up, because in general when you put an old drive, or something similar into a new computer it may handle it differently than your previous computer did, in our case our phones. Now this may not be the case, but this is just my thoughts on how it may work. Which could in turn bork your card. Should be okay after a reformat.

Just had my SDcard become corrupted while in phone. Showed "Damaged SD Card" warning in Notification bar. I then had to reformat the card. It's working just fine now. I think perhaps some data while writing to card becomes corrupt.
Others report if you have similar issues.
My card is a 16GB Class 10 Patriot (I think)

[Q] Weird SD card behavior

I have an 8GB SD card in my Photon that used to show up just fine, but now the contents are no longer accessible. Under file manager, it says no SD card is present. But I also use App2SD and all the apps (games mostly) that I had moved over to it are still working. I can launch those games just fine and even in the App2SD app, it shows my SD card (total space and used space) along with all the apps on it.
When I take this same SD card out and plug it into my Win7 PC, all the old contents are still there (pictures, music, videos). I can view/listen to them just fine, so the SD card is good.
So I'm not sure wtf is going on. The only thing that I did that may have caused this was installing QuickPic. When I first launched it, it tried to do an index of all my content on the SD card. But now when I launch it, it says no SD card is present. I've rebooted several times, powered off/on, reseated the SD card, but the end result is the same.
Anyone have a clue on what I should do (short of formatting starting over)?
In file manager are you browsing to /mnt/sdcard-ext ?
I was able to browse there under QQPlayer, but it was empty. For File manager, I simply select SD Card (choices are Internal Phone Storage, SD card, Shard folders) and it says "Please insert memory card". But for further testing, I installed Zedge and moved it over to the SD card with App2SD. It still allowed me to do that and the app still worked.

Keep guessing, it's a Sandisk. And like I said in the OP, it works fine in the PC and in the Photon, as far as App2SD is concerned, just not with the rest of the phone.

And you think it's a bad card exactly how? Are you reading my posts or just randomly responding with crap? If the best of your troubleshooting skills is to replace the suspect part, then point taken. However, I disagree.
So for other folks on the forum that have some basic troubleshooting skills, here's something else I've done to test. I've placed the SD card back into my old HTC Eris and the card works fine in there as well. So my guess is that the issue is somewhere in my Photon. Just not sure if it's the hardware or software.
Then live with a bad card
I have had issues with my sdcard, but not to the extent you seem to have. I swapped the Radioshack Photon for a Best Buy Photon last night to get a hunski back and backed all my apps up with astro. The only thing my new Photon recognizes are the pictures I had from the old Photon. My wallpapers, ringtones, apps, etc... are not seen by new one and Astro does not find any backed up apps. AND its a new 8gb ScanDisk. Weird.
Finally did a factory reset on my phone but still kept getting the same behavior. Called up Sprint, got a support ticket number and walked into a Sprint store for them to test it further. 2 other known good SD cards were failing to mount on my phone. Tried them on another new Photon and they worked, including mine. Luckily, I was within the 30 days period and was able to simply get my phone swapped out. POS Motorola...

[Q] Icons keep changing to little green android guys

Hello everyone, I seem to keep having an issue with my desktop (no sure if that is the right word to describe the main pages where you icons and widgets are) icons will change to images of the android guy. It seems to happen randomly and frequently when I reboot my phone. It never happened on stock but I am currently running Team Perfection's Objection #2 with its RC1. I have flashed it twice and still have the same problem. Both times I flashed, I did a clean install. I flashed the dalviek cache, wiped the partition, fixed permissions...... This issue has also come when I tried Goldie 5 rom also. So far to remedy the problem, I delete all the icons and then I add the shortcuts back. Not a deal breaker, just annoying and I am curious as to why. I have tried searching on the web and in the forums here but having no luck. I think it may be the way I'm typing in the search. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. I have included a screenshot of my issue.
p.s. this is my first question post so please tell me if I need and how to improve my posting skills.

They will show like this when the OS has lost connection with your sd card. You can.go thru setting unmount and then remount your sd card and they should show up. Not to be a doomsayer, but there is a possibility that your sd card is getting ready to go out on you. Mine exhibited the same thing and then died 2 weeks later.

Please dont say that! This has been happening to me too, and I figured it was because the apps were on the SD card....so if the card dies, I will loose everything wont i?
Unmounting the SD card and remounting didn't work but moving the apps back to the phone worked. I may invest in a new sd card with a higher class. I am currently using a san disk 4 class. I want to keep my apps on the sd card because the partition seem so small on the phone and I find it easier for backing up purposes.

I mean its possible. I learned from loosing over 500 pictures and videos how important it is to back up SD cards. There are many apps that can back it up for you. I personally use Google+ for backing up pictures and videos only when connected to a charger.
When my SD crapped out, it put my phone into a boot loop, which made me panic since I was an avid flasher on my atrix. Not sure every SD card acts that way. Of course, once removed, phone booted up normally

This phone has almost 2GB of storage memory for apps. And that is about the most I have seen for about any phone. So if you are using it up you must have alot of apps. Maybe too many as the phone is having issues keeping them alll in memory. Had similiar issues to this on previous phones when they were simply over loaded.
Also, I don't believe it is your SD card going bad. The phone doesn't save/move apps to your external (physical) sd card. It saves them to the built in internal/usb memory which is about 11GB. Even the EA/Gameloft extra downloads are saved on the internal/usb memory. You can connect your phone to your computer and see this. However when you unmout the external sd card the apps disappear. So how the 2 are linked is unknown to me. But that link may be the issue.
Got a 32 gb card just to be safe. I need a larger card anyway so I'll throw this older one on my camera. LOL
Thanks for saving me time

"SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" hardware issue solved

Hey all,
I thought I would share my findings to help others with the same issue.
Two days ago I kept catching glimpses of a card image in the notifications at the top of the screen, but it would only be for a second so I could not see what it was trying to tell me. But had a quick look and sd card seemed fine and all data was present on handset. A couple of hours later it popped up with "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed". I tried ejecting and reinserting, restarting device and turning off and removing battery all to no avail. So I did a quick search which showed this seemed to be quite a common issue, after reading many threads with people saying the sd card is corrupt or network providers saying it was software and to do a restore. I decided before all that hassle I would open the phone and check the circuitboard expecting it to be a dry solder joint. One thing I will point out that was different to some other users is the fact my sd card was not visible with the phone connected to the computer, so this may not solve all related issues.
THE FIX
Turn off phone, remove the battery, SIM card and sd card. Remove all screws except the one by the 3.5mm jack. Gently pull the white plastic trim that surrounds the card holders and battery but the top part with speaker and camera does not need removing. Once removed if you look to the left of the sd card holder you will see the ribbon that connects the sd card to the main circuit board and at the end of the ribbon is the connector. Mine was disconnected and was loose, even if yours is not loose it would be worth gently pulling it off and reconnecting it. Then reassemble in the reverse order.
This was a nice surprise in the sense it was a very simple fix. However when I mounted the sd card even directly in my pc it was not found, I assume that the loose connector floating about had probably shorted its connections and caused an issue with the sd card. After a handfuls of attempts at mounting it in my pc it was finally detected and I backed up all the data and reformatted the sd card, then copied the data back, mounted it in my phone and was happy to find it all working as expected.
I hope this information will help some of you out, as it was a simple fix to a simple issue and results from searching had no solutions, just lots of assumptions.
And what can I do
Hi
I read your articles and seem very good but u have a question.
I had the same issue and I saw that every time my phone said I hat message it creates in my sd card a folder named lost. I and then i saw that one part of my battery was going there, ti reconnect the phone with my sd card
I formatted my sd card and did all the things that I found in the Internetbut nnothing works and I just change my sd for another one I had and sincethere u ddon't have any other issue, but my computer detects very good my first sd card and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Any idea?
Regards
Recently ive just faced this issue, what I did is to insert my 32gb sd card in my PC and run CHKDISK, havent got any error while performing this, thereafter i inserted it in my phone & goodness till now this sd card error hasn't appear yet. (finger crossed).
Mine did something like this a few times and then the 32GB Sandisk class 10 card died. Couldn't get it to work in any device except Linux based Media player. Luckily managed to copy my nadroid backup and TB backup. Sent to Sandisk and they replaced it. There is already a thread about S3 damaging teh SD cards. May be the loose connection is what's causing the card to to end up dead.

Yeah,as mentioned I have seen a lot of issues about sd cards, this is the first issue I have had and thought it would be worth mentioning. There is little space when the case is together so it could easily still make contact and seem fine even if the connector has worked loose and cause all kinds of issues. As mentioned mine had the sd icon popping up every now and then before it actually failed. Some users seem to be going through a lot of sd cards with them failing on a regular bassis.
I've been using my 32gb card since my last phone which was the LG Optimus 3D it is a scandisk class 10 one. Anyway i took it out of the 3D and stuck it into my S3 i still have not had a problem. I did take it out a few times to put a rom in because i wiped my phone and didn't have a rom in the Sd card. Also i dropped my phone and replaced the whole front silver bumper bit the whole digitizer because i dropped my phone while playing basketball. It still works. It has been a year now it has been in two phones and still works great. I must be lucky..
I got mugged for the SD though i bought it last year for £60 from Argos a store in the UK. Now you can get them for half the price oh well.. I am waiting for the 128gb ones to come out so going to buy one lol..
today also my Sandisk Ultra HC I 32GB it's died, tomorrow I'll test with pc but no sign of life :crying: WTF samsung !!!
hey i have the same issue with an 32gb sd card, it was workking great and then i was getting the error about
"SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" and then i tried everything i could and my computer detect the sd card and it seems to be working normal but in my phone i have the error over and over again and it was draining my battery too, and the only thing i did was change to another 16gb sd card and this one is working.
maybe there is a problem with the 32gb sd cards
I have a 16GB Sandisk UHS-1 card and i have been getting this issue as well, and its becoming more and more frequent. Whenver it happens, the ringtones/notifications for certain apps like Gmail and Message get reset as the ringtones i set were stored in the sdcard. Also the photo frame app i have on my homescreen often resets to nothing as the pictures were also stored in the sdcard. Its really annoying because I can leave my phone sleeping, only to wake it up realizing my ringtones are all set to silent and my photo frame has been reset. At least i know its a common problem. damn you samsung!
Has anyone actually tried checking the connection on the ribbon as suggested? Mine has been fine since and works fine.

There is no way anyone would know you have opened it, the screws are all Philips instead of t6. As long as you use the correct screwdriver it won't damage the heads and will leave no sign of entery and it takes around 10 mins to complete. Or you could take it to Samsung to do but seems a lot of hassle for such a simple fix.
Also most people are rooted without concern of the warranty.
So there's no seals or stickers that are broken?

Nope, no sticker or seals and just so you know all screws to remove the back are identical, there are only two screws inside which are different but do not need removing for this. You only need a Philips screwdriver ( I used a ph00 x 40) as long as the screwdriver fits the screw well it will not damage the head. Once screws are out a flat head screwdriver or similar are helpfull to prise the back off.
Hi Guys,
A little feedback from my experience with this.
I too was experiencing the "Unexpectedly Removed" error on my 32GB Class10 Sandisk.
It was playing havok with my setup because I use a 8GB Ext4 Partition on the card, where I move 90% of my apps. (About 6GB of that is used by games + their "external" data), and it keeps my phone and FAT32 partition free for important stuff. (I use Link2SD and DirectoryBind)
The problem is, after the device wakes, Link2SD can't find any of the apps, so I can't start any of them, and I have to do a full reboot to get them back. :/
So, after searching and searching, I couldnt find a valid solution.
I tried with a 16GB class10 Samsung, and a 32GB Class10 Samsung card. Exact same setup. NO ISSUES.
Everything works perfectly.
Then I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933743&page=2
Where most of them are experiencing this error with Sandisk cards.
Apparently, it's a known issue with Sandisk Cards (especially the 32GB models), and cards sold after December 2012 no longer experience this.
I have contacted Amazon.co.uk about replacing the card as it's only 2 months old, still waiting for their answer. Will update if anyones interested.
cheers

Apparently, it's a known issue with Sandisk Cards (especially the 32GB models), and cards sold after December 2012 no longer experience this.

A curious question if I may.
Was this a SanDisk Ultra (UHS) card? Most (if not all) Android phones do not have a proper UHS-I driver today and, although the card is supposed to switch down automatically, that transition time can fool the OS sometimes.

I read something about UHS compatibility, so I got an SD-HC

Is it the same thing?
Hmmm. Ok, might be getting somewhere.
Any idea if these cards have an internal "power saving" system that maybe kicks in if voltage drops below a certain level?

Yes, the red and Grey SanDisk cards are UHS.
Yes, they definitely have controllers and the host device can command them (if it knows how). I know that they allow In System Programming (ISP) for updating firmware. They support auto-standby, power-off and sleep modes but am not certain if the card would switch without command. Check the SD link in my signature if you really need more info.

I tested my SanDisk 64GB Ultra card in a Note 2 and it had the same symptoms (Mine were worse, with the card locking up while playing music after a few minutes, causing mmc timeout errors in the kernel).
I switched to a Samsung 64GB Pro card and since then I haven't had any issue. It's also twice as fast.
The amount of headaches this SanDisk card gave me is insane, probably the last time I buy a card from them.
i have sandisk ultra class 10 32gb. try this setup. use minitool to reformat your card then set it the cluster size to 16kb.
for me so far so good. will test this in a couple of days.

VS985 35B Sd Card Help

New to the forum, I did a search but came up empty, I have a rooted LG G# 35B rooted stock rom. it has a 128gb samsung sd card I had it for at least 6 months, no issues, last week it started unmounting my SD card by itself and unless I restart the phone it wont mount again, I did a factory reset and formated the card 3 times then mounted the card on the phone again and same issue, it will not go away also starts crating and deleting .txt files one called SNP_LOG .txt because of the modified nature of the phone I cannot do the OTA I have the 5.1.1 lollipop, also I have put on an 8G SD card and a 32GB same issue.
Try downgrading via the 10B TOT to try to verify if the problem is software or hardware. By your description I'm wondering of software but that's just a guess.

My wife's stock phone had this issue on 48A. I downgraded it to 10B and then took OTA's back up to 35B. It still had the issue. Went back to 10B and still had the issue. IIRC there is a post about this issue on the main LG G3 forum in case you are interested.
I have the insurance on my devices so 3 replacement devices later she got a phone that works again. Good luck!
I'm on 46A and had a similar issue with a Samsung 64 GB card I have been using for about a year. Recently it started unmounting and remounting out of nowhere. Eventually, the phone claimed that it was corrupted. I opened up a file viewer and it seemed as though it had reformatted it. Since I backed it up at the start of all this, I put it in my computer to restore the data. However, all of the files that were on there before were still there and in-tact. I tried a 16 GB card I had sitting around to no avail. After doing some Googling, it seems that these symptoms are apparently a relatively common hardware issue with the G3 (which sucks, because this phone was still doing great after 2 years).
TL;DR - you may want to try different SD cards if you have any. That will help narrow down the issue and whether or not it's software or hardware. If I find any more info on the similar issue I'm having, I'll post it here.
Has anyone tried something like deoxit on the sd card when they start going bezerk?
I wonder if the card or the slot contacts get dirty or microscopic corrosion.
I use deoxit on alot of contacts and it works well.
Brian
still cannot get it to work, also I keep getting this messages for creating an snp_log.txt and then deleting the file I search for it and erase it and it keeps doing it, also a DelMe file 1-21 keeps pooping up
running lg g3 35b-xdeb sdcard formated exfat, I had this issue happening 6 months ago with a 64gb sandisk card till the card become "unwriteable" to any device or pc. I can no longer write to the card and it is readable but pretty much useless. I replaced with a 128gb sandisk card and all went well. Problem is starting again. everytime I reboot the phone and use a passcode to log in, it unmounts and mounts once. I removed xposed and many other apps still to no avail. I did read somewhere that the card needs a "label" on the volume for lollipop. .I did noticed my card was unlabled. I placed a label on my sdcard but it still is happening. I have also read that backing up the card and doing a complete "non quick" format my help out. doing a backup on my card now. let ya know the results. I did place another 128gb card in my phone and the problem still existed. I tried formatting another card to ext4 but it still was happening. I do feel my issue is software related.
incase your unsure if this is happening to you all you need to do is launch the camera app and it will ask you to "save photos to sdcard" whenever it unmounts the sdcard.
Does anyone know any log files i can examine? since my phone can be rebooted and sit for hours and then when I log in with a passcode it unmounts perhaps I can see which app if it is an app that may be doing this. I am on lollipop but I did run the sdcard fix for kit kat on it. maybe a script still exists. I really like this phone and would love to sovle this. I'm wondering if it is an issue with the internal memory that is causing an unmounting and remounting of volumes. would love to solve this.
update:
So I tried backup the sdcard to a hardrive using windows 10. kept failing on files. I decided to try backing up using a linux-ubuntu dist. when it would fail on the files it would actually unmount the whole drive. can't remember the error exactly something to do with no enpoint. I started select directories one by one to copy. I came to an assumuption. the only directories with corrupt files were files that I copied from the internal memory to the sdcard. my tool of choice used to be using es-file explorer. I hate making blind assumptions especially if i'm wrong but that was definitely a common denominator.
So I kept getting "sdcard unmounted" and "sdcard mounted" after reboot and login. I decided to do a full wipe but not before doing a backup of my rom. (just for testing purposes and data backup) I tried nandroiding to the internal memory which had 18gig left and it kept failing saying not enough space. so I backed up to external_sd which worked fine. I then decided to do a format of internal memory from twrp. restored backup and an earlier backup and still mounting issues. I then installed latest stable of cm12.1 and it... worked. don't know why but I decided to install xdabeb 3.1.1 6.0 mm stock image. wow does it work great. all my needs were met. xposed for 6.0 sdk23, tether, g3 toolbox mmbeta. awesome slim down stock. no sdcard mount issues with original card. I actually think the external_sd mount issue is actually a byproduct of an issue with the internal memory. and I believe cm12.1 install might have done some kind of fsck(filesytemcheck) my pipe dream? my incorrect guess? prolly. give it a try. cm12.1 installs so quickly it can't hurt.
WARNING!
DO NOT FORMAT INTERNAL MEMORY IF YOU HAVE NOT COPIED /TWRP BACKUP FOLDER FROM INTERNAL MEMORY TO A SDCARD OR USBDRIVE IF YOU NEED IT.
you were warned (sorry bout the caps....felt it was needed)
I'm seeing this problem as of yesterday, and it started after I took the 49A OTA, but I do not believe that was the issue. I'm wondering if it's more because the phone is almost 2 years old? I don't take the SIM nor the SD Card out at all. I did drop my phone last week. It was in a case and it landed flat on it's back, but I wonder if that still might have caused an issue and it just happen to coincidentally rear it's ugly head yesterday when I took the 49A OTA? 10B and all subsequent OTAs exhibit the same issue.
Going to take it into Cell Phone Repair today and get an estimate to see how much it will cost to get it fixed. Would like them to fix the USB port as well as it appears to be loose and I have numerous connect/disconnect issues with the PC so I have to be VERY careful when flashing so as to not bump or jostle the cable or phone while connected to the PC.
Cell Phone Repair gave me a quote to replace the SIM/SD Card slot of around $90 USD. They did say there was a 50% chance that the phone might not turn on if they do the work and that would be the end of it. I'm going to leave it alone.
Now, one thing I have noticed is, the card ejects usually when I launch an app. From what I can tell, it only appears to happen once for the app. Yesterday, the Facebook app seemed to do it. Today, my Twitter app did it.
I'm wondering if it's due to permissions? I wonder if the OTA changed something in regards to the access allowed to the external SD card and that's causing it to eject the card, and then remount it with the proper permissions? Usually, it seems to take a bit of time to remount, but it usually does, and then from that point, I don't see it happen for that app anymore.
Any ideas on this?
UPDATE: I just launched Twitter again and it didn't eject the card. I launched Facebook as well and same thing, no dismount. But I then launched Google+ app and it ejected the SD card. Still waiting to have it remount the SD card. Like I said, sometimes it's quick. Other times, it takes some time to remount the card. But this seems to be the issue and I'm wondering if that's normal? It happens with any SD card I put in.

My wife's SIM slot stopped working about a month ago. I got an RMA on LG's site to send it to them for a repair quote. They wanted about $75 to repair or $150 for a complete refurb. We didn't have it repaired and then sent it back. We're hoping to buy two new non-contract unlocked phones in the near future. Probably the HTC 10 Unlocked or the Google Pixel XL 128 GB, but that latter isn't too likely given the very high price combined with its unavailability.
My wife is unfortunately using her old flip phone for now.
Mainly wanted you to know LG's quote as I'd be more comfortable having LG repair it than someone else, I just didn't want to put more money into phones that I'll be looking to replace soon anyway, and with the Swappa selling price of the G3 being only $50 more than that repair cost.

Thanks. $150 is what Verizon quoted me for a replacement G3. My issue is, I do not want to buy another phone. I actually love this phone. I'm comfortable with it and it does what I need. And with one daughter in college and the other getting ready to start college next year, I need to save money and I do NOT want to be paying more money a month for a new phone. With this phone just having gotten off contract, by VZW bill dropped $20/month which is nice. That's $240 saved over the course of a year. Might seem like peanuts to some, but for me, every little bit helps.
I've flashed back to 10b again to test out the SD card because it's really annoying that right after the 49A OTA, it started happening. I just can't see that it was already bad but never showed, or that the 49A OTA caused the issue to show up. I'm just wondering if there's something with the 49A OTA that causes this issue. Other people have reported to me that they experienced the exact same issue as me with the SD card constantly ejecting. Maybe the slot IS bad, but it's not as sensitive to it except with the 49A.
I had thought I saw the same issue on 10b, but now for the past couple of hours, I've ran on 10b and haven't seen one issue with the SD card. So, I'm now slowly going up the OTA chain until I can get back to 48A where it last worked without any issues and see what happens there.
I have verified that the SD card is fine. Or at least, it appears so. I copied all the files off of it, did a format, chkdsk, etc and nothing comes up bad about the card.
So, the drama continues on with my phone!
Well, it's been confirmed via another user where vzw told him the latest 49a ota is not compatible with our phone in some instances in regards to the SD card. Last night I flashed back to 10b and I'm back on 48a now and no SD card issues. Zero. I've been going over 12 hours now and not a single unmount. Thanks Verizon. Nice testing. ?
I'm curious if those on 49a not expediting issues with their SD cards if they are on the K or non-k model of the g3?
