The only way I could think of is to root your tablet, then ask around in the custom ROMs section for your tablets model for a ROM with phone capabilities.

I don't know how likely that's going to happen. but what I can say is that this s?cks I was using my tablet as every day phone now no internet or mms just phone calls and text only, I was hoping that maybe an xposed module that any one may know about it would be much appreciated thanks
So, your tablet was a Phablet? (An almost tablet-sized phone)
Sent from my HTC Desire 510 using XDA Free mobile app
well you could say that but now t-mo knows its a tablet and won't let me use the internet. I was wondering I change the IMEI with one of my old phones could it work? and if it could does any one knows of an app that can do just that
great job on the thread title! didnt even bother to read what you wanted help with. and YES, I'm just replying to tell you that you should give at least some information when choosing your thread title.
sorry for the inconvenient but for Me it is a very problematic issue no being able to use the internet. by the way thanks for your help
I have the same issue right now, and I have a feeling others will continue to report the same. I can still make calls and send text messages, but T-Mo has blocked my data. I get redirected to the 'Connect Me' page, and after I click 'Get Started,' I get sent to a page that has an 'OK' button and unviewable text hidden above it. This is not a tethering redirect, because I cannot access my e-mail nor the Play Store either.
It seems T-Mo will no longer let anyone use the SGP621 as both a voice and data device, we will have to select one or the other?
I'm too have the same problem that's why I stated this thread hopping to find a solution to this problem, I don't know if by changing the IMEI will make an effect on the identification of this tablet to a phone/phablet so that it is not recognize as a tablet, my xperia z ultra does work normal that's why I ask, if any body can help us pleas let us know on how and what to do to disguise the tablet as phone/phablet thanks
I haven't run into the same problem (though it doesn't mean I won't). I'm now also wondering who knows a work around to this.
Last I checked, changing the IMEI was not exactly... legal per say. But at this point, eff it. Anyone know how to change the IMEI on the Z3TC?
it may not be legal but what t-mo is doing is worst and I know it's wrong but if you use and IMEI from a old phone of yours that you don't use any more I think its ok? right. I just would like that some one can tell us how to do it
Possible Solution?

I've got about 5-6 people's info so far, if i could get 10 or so i think we could make some headway here. I have tried SIM swaps, tried using a regular z3 for a couple days and switching back, tried rooting and IMEI changing nothing has worked thus far... this seems like the best chance here.
Changing/altering IMEI numbers is illegal in most areas.....and definitely not a topic discussed on XDA.

I can't find any information on flashing samsung vibrant to cricket. I don't care about a full flash, voice and text is fine for my purposes. I don't care about data or android market or any of that.
I have seriously been NON STOP looking for last 2 days with no luck. I checked the cricket forums and I searched the forums here without any luck. I am an amateur I am not going to lie.
But I have a very good general background in technology and, I have already rooted the phone. I was trying to follow a guide I found but honestly I am not 100% sure that even does what I want it to. QPST samsung vibrant but when I do it I cannot simultaneously connect both the phone and run the software. If software is running first my computer won't recognize the phone as a modem and if the phone is connected first the software freezes and I can't even close it with task manager, I have to reboot comp.
Any help at all would be appreciated. I don't even know if this is the right forum for this question and I am sorry if I put it in the wrong place but this is vexing me.
Does cricket even use sim cards? If they are not a GSM carrier, it would make it impossible to use the vibrant on their network/service
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Cricket is cdma (sprint, Verizon, us cellular type radio, meaning no sim card) and the vibrant is gsm (meaning it uses a sim card).
The vibrant cannot and will not work with cricket.

Well question solved. Definately not the answer I wanted but that can't be helped.
Are there any nationwide carriers that use GSM available similar in price to cricket? I will be looking into this right after posting this question but I figure I might as well see if anyone knows any decent ones they can recommend. Basically, looking for cheapest possible with nationwide coverage.
I just need talk and text. Preferably no activation fee and no cost for sim but I know I am being overly optimistic with that lol. I also know that this forum isn't the place for that so any help is appreciated but I understand if no one has an idea.

there is the one that wal-mart sells that you could look into
Now that we have s-off and root, is a solution yet to get the phone and dialer to work on the View?
I'll look into it. Have you tried clubtech's patch?

No I haven't tried it. I will try it tomorrow before I flash my rom.

Let us know if you get it running. I'm interested in this too. Thanks.
It may turn out that you will not be able to use your present SIM card as with some dongles, the carrier may only allow data (no voice calls) through it. Test the SIM in a standard phone for calls.
It'll be interesting to see if another carrier's SIM works in it also.

There is no sim in the view. I'm not aware of any sprint device with a sim card.
Yes the sprint phones do not use a sim card. I added the lines to my build.prop file that are listed in the clubtech hack. Although the line
ro.phone.function=1
Was already there. I was able to place a call. The person could hear me and I could hear them although the volume was kind of low. I have not tested it with a bluetooth headset yet. Also keep in mind that I don't know but I believe any calls you make will count as data on your tablet data plan.
My concern was with upsetting sprint... you have your view on a regular view plan and not a phone plan right?

Ah, OK, not actually seen one physically.
It must be a surface mount pre-programmed version locked to Sprint.. I can foresee difficulty in getting the phone to work then if it is set to data only on the network.
Edit: Just seen his success...
I'll be following this thread closely as I am on the fence for picking up a Sprint View. If phone calls are somehow enabled on this device then I will most likely pick one up.
As far as upsetting Sprint, that is the question mark. As far as I know they do not offer phone plans for the view, only data plans.

You will probably find calls suddenly being blocked at the network then once they find out users are able to make them. They will not give anything for free!
If you want to use the view to regularly make calls, I would advice looking for the thread that tells you how to do this using a market app groove ip and gtalk and gvoice. That is your best bet. While using the view as a phone is possible, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. This means if you use it and sprint blocks your account don't blame xda nor the members here.
I'm just interested in getting rid of groove ip. I would rather have a phone function than another app running in the background. I actually went from a phone plan to straight tablet plan with groove ip. I only need phone functionality incase the school needs to call me about my kids.
With all of the files on the the tablet but hidden and the fact that the only thing needed to enable the phone was a couple of lines in the build.prop makes me wonder if maybe sprint had looked at possible phone plans. Then either decided against or possible a future offering.

This is what I thought, too. I think they left it out until they could come up with a good game plan for it. It's inevitable that tablets will be phones as well. The asus memo is going to help usher it in. I'm just not an att fan and that's more than likely where that one is going to hit.

I don't know, I think there is more to it than that, or HTC would have enabled phone calls on the WWE Flyer for all others to use.
I still think HTC had some problem gaining approval with this design from Google for GB and had to leave out the phone function.
Why else disable fitted hardware when it would be a bigger selling point if working? It makes no sense!
For the time being I'm using nettalk. I had to install it on my evo first then copy and send the apk to my view via dropbox. Once it was installed I was able to make "data" calls with my view with no bt headset...mic and speakers worked just fine. This was done before clubtech posted his patch.
So has anyone been able to get the phone function working with clubtech's work around?
I've done exactly what he advised, added those lines to my build.prop and even added unlimited mobile to mobile minutes to my tablet plan (yes it exists, I work at a Sprint store and added it myself) but I'm not able to dial out or receive incoming. The phone service doesn't run, ever, even when trying dial out a call.
I know the GVoice method works but I'd really like to be able to open this up without having to use extra apps.
yes theres a way. I did that on my HTC FLYER 3G. I created a full detailed document on how to do that on HTC FLYER but I used some sources on xda developer forum in order to do that. Here is the document I created, the sources with links are available at the very end of the pdf file. (one of the sources is for evo view)

I'm using AT&T Prepaid line on a Galaxy Note 2 Verizon (I605). At the beginning, I used it without any problem around a month. Later on, I started to receive all the calls that beginning with +. It's just adding +, not +1. Let's say I'm receiving call from 9721234567. I see that number +9721234567 on the screen. When I try to call back, It's trying to make international call and it says "you don't have enough money on your prepaid account."
I did factory setting and custom rom many times but still same problem going on. I putted my SIM card to my friend's Note 2 AT&T, the problem is solved.
I wish I can switch to Verizon Prepaid since the phone is for Verizon but I couldn't find out how to do that. If any one knows, let me know please, I'll switch right away. Otherwise I have to solve the problem. Does anyone has an idea why it's happen? I did many research about this but I couldn't find anything. Thank you.
So, no body knows anything about it?

Most people here are using Verizon which uses a totally different network than AT&T which is why you're not getting much response.
If the phone is adding "+" to the number, it thinks you are in a different country. So some things to check:
Settings->Date and time
make sure you are showing the correct date and timezone, and getting them from the network if possible
Settings->More Settings->Mobile Networks
(1) make sure Network Mode is GSM/UMTS for AT&T
(2) check Access Point Name and associated APN data is correct for AT&T - this shouldn't affect voice, but you never know
Just some friendly advice. I know you want an answer, but when people see you bumpin your own thread everyday, they tend not to respond.

I think that's just an offer. You don't have to do this. As far as i know you can use your SIM in any device you like. And ... Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact can be considered as a big phaplet.

I agree with nico_las. I use my SGP621 on T-Mobile USA as well, and it's not mandatory I switch over to a tablet plan. It's just an offer you can refuse.
Is there a way to refuse this offer? Like, my data no longer works as of maybe two hours ago, and I am not the only one reporting this. Can I refuse an offer and retain it? I called 611 but as usual the pre-paid support folk never know anything outside of their scripts...
the problem is that t-mo knows is a tablet and the internet wont work, calls ant and text does work but not mms and everything that requires internet, if any body know how to disguise as a phone/phablet like the z ultra by modifying the IMEI or something. thanks
Yes, I am currently Experiencing this Issue as well, and I told T-mobile Rep to stop forcing people like this. I can just sell this phone and buy a note 4, with smaller screen and it will work just fine.....but they basically want to force people into it, so they can make money out of it.
I am interested in how to disguise the tablet as a phone as well.
I really really want to kick Tmobile in the ass and never come back as a customer........but they know other carriers do the same thing......We are at the losing ends
we need to ask to devs if we can get help on this issue. what we need is to disguise out tablet as phone or phablet
I think you're being overly optimistic. I appreciate it. But we barely have support enough on this device to get a proper root, much less ROM support. I feel like it should be possible to pass this off as a normal Z3... But not sure. In any case it will take root at minimum and most likely an unlocked bootloader... Which I don't plan on pursuing until I know I can keep remote play, DRM, cast support, etc.
I hope it happens... And I'm with you... But I think it's a lost cause. I'd like to hear from an actual Dev about it though... Just not a lot of them in the English world with this tablet not on shelves outside of Asia.
Hey guys, a few thoughts.
First, there is chatter about this in 3 or 4 different threads. It doesn't have to be this thread, which I created yesterday, but we should band together and use a single thread for longer-term discussion.
Second, I actually don't think that this is an attempt by T-Mo to gauge more money out of us; we are a tiny percentage of their user base and are probably an attractive demographic for T-Mo in a sense. This is simply bureaucratic disorganization (I think they simply don't know how to provide 'free data for life' without considering the 621 a 'data only device,' damn you all who rallied for that), and unfortunately execs are not going to make an immediate priority of satisfying a tiny percentage of prepaid customers on cheap plans. What I personally expect will happen at some point, T-Mo will act in accordance with its 'uncarrier' mantra and be the first carrier to recognize that there is increasingly no difference between a phone and tablet. They will offer substantially the same plans for any data enabled device and will be the first carrier to officially support "phablets.'
Third, I am also very curious what can be done to trick T-Mo's system, in the mean time. I can say firsthand that altering the device model # inside your build.prop file will do nothing. Switching up the APN, nothing. But I didn't personally get that creative before giving up. One thing to note, on an older device, I downloaded a root app to ltyer my DNS servers (switched from T-Mo to OpenDNS). Within X many minutes of rebooting I could not make phone calls or receive texts and no data icon appeared either, but I did have data and T-Mo was probably unable to meter my data usage. Try at your own risk.
Fourth, *****ing accomplishes nothing. The great thing about buying unlocked, is the ability to switch carriers at the drop of a dime (which is coincidentally what T-Mo deserves from us right now). AT&T has LTE on four frequencies and the 621 supports all of em. I already made the switch to AT&T, and everything is smooth at the moment. And I can always switch back. As a light talker I miss my $30 plan (and the small $$ I had left over in my acct), but $60 for talk, text, and a tetherable 4 GBs of LTE isn't terrible when you can buy 5-10% off discounted refill cards from Calling Mart. Cricket is also on AT&T's network now and $60 will get you 20 GBs of <= 8Mbps LTE, $10 more if you want to tether without worry. I would be curious for an expanded discussion regarding our options, since I am only so familiar with the ins, outs, and possible pitfalls of them.
good one
Would anyone like to test for compatibility/pitfalls/etc on Harbor Mobile? $50/mo for unlimited talk/text/LTE and 3GB tethering on T-Mo's network, purportedly.
https://www.harbormobile.com/plans/
They also have a good looking tablet data plan ($15 for 5GB) that would be more useful if we had dual sim slots.
MetroPCS would be the other competitive T-Mo pre-paid option. Not sure how these companies detect phones/tablets. They don't offer free data for life, which might or might not make a difference.
Possible Solution?

I don't think this is correct. I already got a new SIM for mine because that's what Tmobile support had me do originally. It didn't fix the issue. However I noticed under my account that it had my device listed as a Xperia Z tablet as in the old version when I got the new SIM. So maybe if you change it to a Z3 and get a new one it will work... But I doubt it.
The tech support I most recently talked to said they updated their systems with the Z3TC information and classified it as a tablet so the data won't work unless you get on a tablet data plan. But if I get on a tablet data plan then I can't have phone and text on the same SIM. He said there was no way for them to accommodate both.
And I tried explaining that the only difference between tablet and phone is phone capabilities... Which we have... So it should be a phone.
I see that more and more people are having this problem and being that t-mo knows that our SGP621 is a tablet the only thing to do is to disguise it as something else other then a tablet. I know that phablets do work fine like the xperia z ultra. we need some technical help on doing this guys.

This won't be a problem on AT&T's network. Why not just switch? For high data users, Cricket has competitive prices, for low use folks there are several mvnos to choose from.

Does anyone have an update on this? I think I got hit too. My internet stopped working this morning and I've been calling T-Mo and they said they don't know what the problem is.
I'm sorry if this wasn't in the right area, I googled up this same question and this board has it the most it seems. If its in the wrong area, please move the topic to the right area so I know where to ask next tome (or link and I'll delete this ((if possible)) and recreate).
I've been using PDANet USB Tethering for the last 3 years or so with Boost Mobile, Samsung Galaxy S3. My phone is showing severe signs of age and issues, and I'm having tons of PDANet related issues. I have unlimited 4G LTE data, but I can't use my wireless tether because the phone company detects it and stops it at 8GB where as USB tethering I've gotten 100+ GB in a single month no issues.
I'm looking for a new phone I can get, that I can somehow mask everything I do on it so that the phone company is unable to see what I'm doing on it, and won't be able to determine if I'm using my phone's wireless tethering features. I prefer a smartphone, obviously, cause I do take it with me where I go and like to have access to my apps. I'm inexperienced with installing ROMs or rooting, never figured out how with my S3 because all the topics are outdated and inaccurate and I only ended up damaging the phone trying. I've got about a week or two to find a new phone that will work with Boost Mobile. My current phone's network mode is CDMA/LTE/EVDO, just to give you an idea of what network I'd need to use for Boost (CDMA I guess?). I need 4G as well, it seems that 3G doesn't work at all at my location and I only get 1 bar of 4G LTE when I'm at home in a specific 3 inch by 3 inch space in my room that I have to tape my phone down to, but at least it works.
There's no other internet options available to me where I live, so my phone is my internet. Just to clarify before people suggest getting an internet service.
Just to be sure, I don't want anything made by Apple, but that should be obvious, posting in the Android forum.
I have found that Boost Mobile won't let me use anything but like 6 specific phones only. Two of the choices being the S7 and the S8.
I've done a search on Amazon looking for unlocked S8 phones, however the comments and reports all claim these unlocked devices are a lie and don't actually work with services they claim to, or have conflicting reports and such. I'm unable to find an Unlocked S8 for use with Boost Mobile.
I've found that I can edit the APN to add 'dun' to my type list, to bypass the data limit of Mobile Hotspot, however I am hoping that it doesn't also cause the company to start charging me hundreds of dollars a month. I want to make sure they can't actually see the traffic either, I don't want my ISP knowing what I'm doing online, because they will just turn around and sell every website I visit to third parties which is now a thing in the USA.
I'd rather Boost not know whats installed on my phone or what websites I visit.
