[Q] Update from stock rooted to DOB1? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hello all,
I have been looking for a little while and can't seem to find anything.
How can I go about upgrading my stock s5 that is towel rooted on the last update knox 0 to DOB1 without triggering Knox?
I have read that I can't use Mobile odin and firmware/radio from regular odin anymore.
Is that right?

There isn't a way yet.

I'm still trying a few things, but with little success.
Anyone else found a way let us know please.

I haven't tried yet but wondering if anyone else has.
I was just looking and it might be possible to flash a rom that uses aroma with mobile Odin to update the rom, keep root, and not trip Knox.
Has anyone tried that yet?
Looks like it worked for the g900f

Updating from VRUAME7

This may be an extremely stupid question but I've been browsing around and can't seem to find an answer...I currently have VRUAME7 build, and seems as most ROMs have stopped pushing updates for the safestrap / this build.
I'm having some issues on my ROM, screen locks and won't wake up. So I figured, will have to update my version to one of the supported.
Is the only way to do this to go back to stock ROM, unroot, download and then root again? Or is there any sort of tutorial for this out there? I've searched all over and haven't been able to find out anything about this.

Well the easiest way to do that would be to use the no wipe Odin tar of me7 then take the otas up through mj7 or mk2. Once your on one of those builds you can use Safe Root to gain root again and then install SafeStrap 3.7x.
I'll see if I can find the links for you...

Again... I'd just use the me7 no wipe to get you to the point where your s4 will accept an OTA. Then allow your phone to take those updates ...there is 3 otas you'd take to get to the latest mk2. Then you can root.. install SafeStrap and your good.
Your phone MAY be able to take OTA right now if u uninstalled SafeStrap...unrooted ...put any bloat you may have removed back on.. and removed xposed. But its easier to just use the method I said earlier if u ask me

Also look here for videos on how to do things if you needed. I assume you know that you cannot have a custom recovery that allows for aosp ROMs like CyanogenMod. Only SafeStrap.

[Q] I have ME7 rooted, want to OTA to MK2 and reroot

Hello everyone, thanks for everyone's hard work. The s4 is my first smartphone and root. I used the exploit on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380325 without issue.
I'd like to update before 4.4 is pushed, since it doesn't seem rootable yet. I've read over the saferoot thread and it appears pretty straightforward.
My question is, what should I do to prepare my phone for the update and root to go smoothly? I know I have to unfreeze the update app and the bloat. I will do a full backup in titanium. Do I have to remove things like adaway and greenify? I made maps a system app in titanium to properly greenify it, do I need to revert that?
Thanks for any help!
When will the new OTA be pushed? I wanna root but I'm on MK2. Is there a way to flash any boot loader yet for mk2 or any version?

I think you can find some answers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501
Don't EVER take an OTA. I got me S4 before the Nazi's locked the boot loader. I wont take an OTA. You can flash modems, ROM's and kernels separately so there is no reason to take the OTA and reroot. Just flash a ROM. You may have to wait an extra week or so to get the latest version, but that's better than ending up with a locked boot loader.

I knew the Nazis had something to do with it.. The locked bootloaders have creepy little black mustache written all over them.
And actually now that were on it.... Is Hashcode also a Nazi?
S.S. ???

Thanks for the replies. In this case I appear to be more knowledgeable. My phone came with ME7, which means it already has a locked bootloader. I cannot flash custom roms, aside from using maybe safestrap. Given that I'm not interested in running that, my only option for android updates and Samsung app updates is to do an ota.
I'd really like to avoid bricking my phone, as I haven't had much luck searching this topic. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

You're easiest option will probably be backing up with titanium, using Odin to flash the newest update you're wanting, then root with saferoot and restore your backup. You won't have to worry about unfreezing anything or removing root. Everything you need is in the development section. There is also a guide in I believe the general section on the dos and don'ts of your phone and what to expect.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Thanks hexitnow. Silly me, I figured my answers would be in the q&a section, not the general one. I had also dismissed odin as useless as I couldn't flag anything custom, now that I researched it I see it can be used to flash a standard update as well. I have located a download for the mk2 update at androidromupdate which I will give a try later. I was going to ask in the development section, but I didn't have enough posts. Guess that's a good thing, keep suckers like me or until we know what we're doing. Thanks again.

Getting back into things

I've been out of the android scene for what seems like an eternity ( 2009 ). I recently changed jobs and I now am the proud owner of a Sprint Note 3. I am looking for help on deciding "where to go" from here, other than just rooting the phone
Suggestions on roms?
You can flash the radio now?
Tripping Knox worth it?
Check out my XDA post on Debloating your device. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 this will give some insight on what apps to remove/freeze, to speed up the phone and increase battery life.

Knox is an extra layer of containerized security between your phone and other devices for the transfer of data. That's the official definition, actually its written by the NSA for Samsung. Can you say SPYWARE? This info is right off the Samsung website.

I run 4.4.2 NC5, stock, rooted, with Philz custom recovery. I disabled and removed KNOX, and flashed Philz recovery ( which voided my warranty the second day I owned the device ). They are working on a way the reset KNOX warranty counter.
OK, if you root your phone with Towelroot it will NOT trip the KNOX warranty counter. Here is the link https://towelroot.com/ this will give you the ability to run certain apps like WiFi Tether Router that needs root.
Now, if you flash a custom recovery ( highly recommended and needed if want to flash other roms ) here is the link to PhilZ CWM recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 I would use hltespr version 6.12.9 .tar this is the latest Sprint version. This will definitely trip the KNOX warranty counter. But think about, did you root your phones in the past? I have, and Sprint never gave me a problem with the warranty.
The Note 3 is an awesome device !!! Enjoy !!!

Has anyone successfully rooted the device yet? or are you basically just trying to get the ball rolling?
With mine(boost mobile) somehow I'm able to use Wi-Fi tethering without root so I'm in no rush to root it but it would be a nice bonus.
soft bricked
had some success with Kingo Root desktop app but it was only temp and flashed wrong file for system update now its stuck in a loop no way to kill it good luck
I'd rather have the bricked one ? I cant seem to root the latest reach, the apk root apps are blocked some how, were any of you able to get dump or adb ?
thanks
I'd like to have a backup of this to work-on
any luck confirming the boat loader is unlock

if you get the MSL, I noticed there's a special usb connection for maintenance in secret codes
maybe a tool unlocks the boat loader in order to root ?
