I love the look of AOSP. Unfortunately, LG does not release camera drivers so camera quality on AOSP is generally pretty terrible. Recently, I decided to forego my typical stock g3 port and try out CyanogenMod 12, and its actually really really good and stable (on vs980 anyways). The only problem was the horrendous camera quality. Lollipop was so good (especially with xposed support starting up) that I decoded I'd try to find a fix for my problem. First off, I noticed that Lollipop had a *bit better camera quality than kitkat AOSP. This was promising but nothing good. My og droid razer still took pictures just as good. I tried the typical apps... Cm11s camera (it had bugs...) AOSP camera was terrible, Google camera was a little better than AOSP but not much. Lenovo super camera.. Still not 100% stable. I didn't use those stock camera ports as none of them are stable and those aren't what this thread is about.
--------------------------------------------------
I tried some play store offerings and almost gave up... But then I found something in the play store. "Open camera". Its free, open source, ad free, and somehow... It takes really good pictures and videos on AOSP on our phones.
When you open it you're greeted with a not-so-beautiful ui, but it has a lot of great features. HDR works also.. Which is nice. Actually, everything works.
The main gripe with the AOSP camera quality was low light performance. In open camera there's a ISO setting. Set the ISO to 1600 and you'll get great low light photos with little noise. You can of course use auto or higher ISO but noise will be a problem. But it is a problem on stock too at those ISO levels. Another thing I'd like to point out is that video recording is surprisingly good. No 4k yet unless your ROM supports it. The app itself supports it. Hopefully this can help someone who needs better pictures/videos on AOSP! ?
Note: I included a test shot. Keep in mind the room was illuminated by one nightstand light. It looks brighter in the picture than it does to the eyes. Even though there's noise in the picture, its multitudes better than other options

Here's a Google camera shot for comparison. I drew a red "G" on the Google camera shot because I'm uploading this with tapatalk and I'm not sure if it will show the pics in order or not:

Very nice post, already knew open camera since it's included in my rom, and yes it takes the better pics!
But I have to say that even thought this app goes deeply into settings, they could make some improvements to the UI...
Yes been using it for awhile
This UI is awful! Photos seem to be great though.
I've been using the Lenovo camera and it's been amazing. Ridiculously quick HDR shots.

Can anyone give me some tips on taking good pictures with the camera on the phone?
Unless I'm in natural daylight, the pictures I take are almost always blurry or glossy looking.
I've enabled the anti-shake option and this seems to have helped some, however, it is still pretty bad. I've seen examples of pictures taken with this camera that look amazing, but I can never reproduce this.
Please help.
Do you manually focus, like tap-to-focus? You should try to and see if it helps. Maybe if the photos are blurry, either clean the camera lens if its dirty (you may want to check!) and go to setting in the camera app (stock or whatever the one you use) and make sure the focus mode is auto focus (or in some other apps Manual focus) and then try again. You really can take unbelievable photos with the phone. Me being a photographer for the past 6 years, it truly is awesome.
Here are some of mine I took all through the stock camera app untouched.

What settings were you using on the camera app to take the one of the fanta?
I've been doing some experimenting and I'm finding out that unless I'm outside, with lots of natural light, I need to use the flash, anti-shake, and often set ISO to 100.
Oops, I should have said reduce the exposure to -2.0 or ISO to 200 or 100.

I set the exposure to -1.0, everything else auto so I'm not quite sure.
I started a thread on this topic a while back, but things move pretty quick here you might not of seen it. Some good information there about taking pics
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291091
It's really all about your lighting and the iso. I also have my metering set to matrix. try experimenting to see what works best for you.

Care to elaborate? I don't understand what you're asking.
sorry for the bad english
what i was trying to ask is if anyone has upgraded to a newer phone compared to the rezound, how do they find the camera performance of the new phone is vs the rezound, reason being is i have a a few newer devices like iphone 5 and g pro but still seem to prefer the camera performance in terms of overall quality of the picture of the rezound and would just like to get users opinions on other devices camera performance thank you
I went to an LG G2. I miss my rezound camera. The G2's is decent, but the rez was so quick.

wow i think i will try and buy G2 NOW THAT THE g3 is comming prices are already dropping have you ever compared your pics to that of the s4 ?
The darker image is from the Resound the lighter is from the One. This is in a dark area to show the low light difference, so both will be a little grainy
Sent from my HTC6500LVW
wow night and day
Without a doubt. Thanks. The comparison
My wife's old iphone 4 seems to take way better low light pics and video (HAM2 camera is jittery when taking low-light video, not smooth at all) Are there any camera tweaks to be done? any settings to change? Thanks!
The B148 update supposedly helped a bit, but I haven't tested it yet. But if you've already updated, I'm afraid there's not much else to do.
Phones like ours are cheap for a reason, meaning they have to be "bad" somewhere. Cameras are never good on Androids of this price range.

That's cool, I understand. I guess the majority of pics & videos happen outside in the light anyway. Thanks. p.s. I figured out how to silence the camera and video camera sounds using ES file manager, so that's good.

Sure. I followed this link and scrolled to the bottom where it talks about rooted devices. You're basically just adding a small addendum to the camera sound file names in the system. Works for me, but who knows what the long-term effects will be. Do this at your own risk, I take no responsibility for your actions. Do not do this if it is illegal in your country, check your laws.
Some third-party camera apps will give you additional options, like higher ISO, that are not available in the stock Huawei camera. lgCamera has been mentioned in another thread here. I'm partial to OpenCamera. Paid options like A Better Camera provide additional modes. But even with all these options, I think the limiting factor for low-light photography with the HAM2 is focus. It becomes very uncertain in anything less than bright light.
Sweet, it works! You should make a thread for it, I reckon.

Will do.
I work sports leagues and tournaments and get a lot of teams asking me to take their picture. Sadly, it seems that ANY iPhone takes better pictures than anything I've dragged out there. In order of my use- Optimus V, Samsung S2, Note 2, and a Nokia 520; also a few small tablets, usually wrapped up on the beach so no pictures there.
Once I realized that the HAM2's camera software doesn't allow flash when in HDR mode, I began looking at other camera software on Google Play. I recently bought Open Camera. It has so many more options, including flash when in HDR mode and a night mode. Here are photos taken on a walk today taken in HDR mode with the phone software and Open Camera.

I am a beta tester from China
I have used the new OnePlus 2 for a few week
Ugly design, but the crafting is good
Thicker body, but feel good in hands
Camera has OIS, but not Sony sensor
Home button with fingerprint sensor, not quite sensitive
Oxygen OS not finalize yet, lots of bugs
Prefer OnePlus One more ...
Enjoy the hands-on pics! (shortened the "http" )

Not sure if you're talking the truth,
but since this is the first time I see those leaked pictures **** must be kind of true.
Pls tell me it has SD card slot
Looks like a dog, but not as bad as the TENAA leaks, but way short of any wow factor the One had. OP are really going to have to market this to get any longevity out of this Samsung/LG mishmash
SD card?
And how is the temperature?

Is there a Lite model or just a OnePlus 2?
Does it have an IR Blaster?
How is the sound quality of the speakers?
Is that a mute switch on the side of the device?
Looks just fine to me. What about the screen size and resolution?
Now you got me curious
That IR blaster question even more
Could you please post some full resolution sample pictures taken with the camera?
Does it still have a option for on screen navigation buttons?
Guys those are real but idk why they are leaked.
More pictures in high resolution?
This is just short beta preview, actually it means nothing, guys, just wait for full video preview, i think someone will make in next 24h after VR launch
Anyway it looks nicer than before
It's definitely sleeker than the original leaked images led us to believe. Based on what he just posted on the front page, this is the A2001, which is the lite version of the phone. The A2003 is the higher end model and will look somewhat different (potentially).
I edited the OP to make the links active - and it looks like there is an imgur album

Best guess I've seen is a mute switch.
thanks @jerdog for fixing.
@chinaleakking - thank you for sharing -- can you describe what you mean by "not quite sensitive" ?
Does it have a micro SD card slot??? If so, this is definitely a 2016 flagship killer.

I've got some time ago this app for free and never really used and now I wanted to give a try with a JPG comparison and for my surprise it is way better than stock, in the attachment the samples.
This is the link for the app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot2
For the Proshot picture I shot in: JPG, P, ISO 50, no noise reduction, Detail turned off, IMG+ turned off, Topaz Denoise and Sharpen.
Proshot seems to be way better than stock, its a pitty it does not support 50mpx yet.

PROSHOT
STOCK
Wow.. look way sharper... Do you have any other comparison like outdoor? ppl?
There are many version of gcam available and not really complicated to install.
Is this better?
Hmmm, the stock image looks either out of focus or soft by motion blur... would it be possible to show other samples, also from other scenarios ? That would be great
Does Proshot support all lenses on the S23U ?
Both pictures where shoot in the same condition, I will try to do other test but the test shows detail and color rendition

The problem is that this is a painting so we have to point of reference in our mind as to how exactly it looks in real life. If you go out and take a picture of like trees and buildings, it's easier for us to compare. Though I agree that proshot does look sharp and nice! Just hard to tell if it's not too sharp compared to real life?

I will do more testing because in some test I did today seems that even if I disable in camera sharpening, the app applies sharpening. Other thing I found is noise pattern this camera creates that is more difficult to Topaz to remove (somethin that not happen with Canon for example) but I will arrive to a bette conclusion when I do more test.
What about ProShop post-processing? Will be great some examples of outdoors pictures vs stock cam...
As long as the RAW issue with ProShot on the S23U is not fixed this app is virtually unusable with this device.
When shooting RAW you always the the image from the 1x module even when using 0.5x, 3x or 10x.
At least the guys at Rise Up Games are aware and looking for a way to fix the issue.
Also video stabilization is not present or working on the S23U in combination with ProShot.
