[Q] Updating SuperSU - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

My apologies ahead of time if this question has been answered. I haven't been able to find anything dealing with my specific question. I just started using ROMS and have been playing around with a number of them. I would like to try out Lollipop ROM for the Sprint Galaxy Note 3. This ROM calls for Super SU v2.3. I currently have Super SU v2.14 as it updated itself from v1.65 (I used the method outline at galaxynote3root.com). In order to get Super SU v2.3 to run Lollipop, can I just download the zip file and paste it in the root directory (replacing v2.14)? I'm a bit of a newbie, so I hope I was able to articulate well enough.
Thanks to all those that help,
Ryan

If you followed Zedomax over at rootgalaxynote3.com , he flashes SuperSu through a custom recovery. you can get the latest stable version of SuperSu v2.46 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 . Just download to your device through the play store. Then boot into you custom recovery, wipe the caches then go to install zip, look for downloads on your internal sd card and click on it. Then click on the SuperSu zip, it will install and update your SuperSu. If you look on post #3 on the link I gave you will see that Chainfire added Lollipop back in version 2.41 .

[Q] Help! Got screwed on rooting!

Hello Xda forums,
i have been using my device rooted for months succesfully. Now I needed to use Titanium Backup, which did not see my root. So I tried updating my binaries where everything got screwed up. It started not to work and stuff. So I re-rooted my device through Odin again. Now my device is rooted but it does not have SuperSU. When I install SuperSU through Google Play, I get "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. There is a problem!"
So, I need to remove all current files relating to SU and re-root device through odin again. Or at least i think this would work. Anyways since my roots not working, i can't remove the files, or let any app remove them.
Any help, please?
-Also no personal files or apps should be gone. A way without losing would be grand!
please guys, help me. I need to solve this as soon as possible..
Flash supersu instead of downloading it through play store.

Do you have a custom recovery like CWM, TWRP or 4ext
If yes : Put it on your SD card and reboot into recovery then install from zip, reboot and your done..
If no : Download MobileODIN off play store and follow the instrucion from there..
BTW : Look at the discription on play store your device may not be supported.

I tried installing the latest 1.65, should i have tried an older one?

No, you don't need a older version.
When reading your first post again, i got a few questions
1. What happened after you tried updating your Binaries?
2. Did you had SU before?
3. Did you fully remove your root or did you just re-root a rooted device?
4. Are you 100% sure you had root before?

1. I tried to update SuperSU through Google Play, and it didn't run succesfully again. (Worst thing i've ever done.)
2. Yep, my device was rooted via CF Auto Root w/ Odin
3. I couldn't really remove my root, since all the ways require to have root before -.-
4. Yep, I was using many apps requiring root without any problem before all this took place..
I think what I need to do is to remove root completely and do it all over again. I can't just factory reset my device, I have lots of files, documents, apps, it would be a pain in the ass

Gaining root access :fail
I tried flashing the SuperSU 1.51 .zip from the recovery mode by placing it in internal memory but to my surprise the file path of the internal memory was not visible and when i inserted a sdcard and copied the file to it and then tried to flash it thru recovery, it was successfull but got a few erros , something like who file not successful(will try again and post exact same thing in by tomorrow)

I do not think your ROM is rooted properly. Try to download some software from play store to check whether it is rooted or not.
If not rooted then you have to google and search the rooting process. You have to use computer ODIN to flash and root your phone.

Having SU app does not mean your phone is rooted. Thats just an front end to provide you root access. Your phone has to be properly rooted.

Do you have a custom recovery? Did you flash cf-auto root? Philz touch is a custom recovery based on cwm. Flash that with odin, go to philz settings and then re-root system.

The simplest place to start is a root checker app (just stick root checker into play store). If it says that you don't have root then you don't simple as that. In which case use CF-AutoRoot program on your pc which will flash both a Custom Recovery (clockworkmod) as well as root... after that, the world is your oyster...
The root checking app is the simplest way to check if you have root though if you're new to stuff like this.

I am sure you were using stock, based on the OP. Get the custom and have a go. If you flash auto root it will give you stock recovery. You need to check philz or cwm threads for the odin flashables.

[ICS/JB][ROOT]SuperSU from Stock Recovery

Rooting Guide
Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100*
Latest SuperSU (v2.01) by Chainfire
Latest Busybox (v1.22.1) by Stephen Stericson
This is SuperSU port meant to be used as a root. I converted it from sh script to edify script for flashing it from Stock Recovery No increase in binary counter. I signed this by the powerful tool by Ryuinferno (Sign-em) so you can flash without E: signature verification failed
From old SuperSU versions to new easy
No increase in binary counter
No yellow traingle
How To Use:
Download attached zip and move it into your external microsd card
Reboot into recovery
choice "apply update from sdcard"
Select the zip and click install
For Unrooting Flash UnRoot.zip which is attachment
Thanks For Reading :good:
PS : You can use it for I9100/G/T/P/i777 and all other s2 variants

Devils advocate here
Arent you still going to have to flash a custom kernel, without the emmc bug, which will (usually) come with su anyways?
I guess what im saying is, while this can give you root without increasing the binary counter, it will still leave you with a buggy stock kernel....
For me, from stock, i do the following:
1) Flash Philz kernel and recovery from stock recovery. (wont increase binary counter, and includes CWM recovery)
2) Reboot
3) Back up efs (important)
Then either stay on stock, reboot into recovery and flash Dorimanx 8.43 branch (with su included)
Or
reboot into recovery and flash custom ROM (usually with root)
And then update su (superuser or SuperSU (better))
Thats not exactly hard to do.

I created this thread for who wants only root (without flashing kernel, using odin and flashing custom rom)
I think it will not leave any bug (It's only copy files) and will not do anything to kernel
and your way is good but it's still replacing kernel ( duh )

[Q] No recoveries found for your device and Cannot install recovery manually

Hey Guys,
I have looked through some of the other posts related to this issue for other phones, but still cannot get recovery installed
Was going to update to the newest Hyperdrive, but decided to ODIN stock and then reroot etc
1. My phone is MDK so I went with the Sticky on how to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
2. Obtained root successfully (SU installed (binaries updated), Root Checker checks out fine, Also installed SuperSU just in case(Updated Binaries))
3. Downloaded and installed Goo.im Manager to have to it install TWRP for wins --- Heres where the issues occurred
--- Error message ---
No recoveries found for your device
And when I launch the application I get:: <h1>Not Found</h1><p>The requested URL /message was not found on this server.</p>
Attempted Solutions:::
1. I found a post the ROM Manager can do the same so I installed that and set TWRP as the custom recovery (shows successful) -- but if I choose boot to recovery it still goes to default android recovery
2. I cant seem to find it again, but I had a XDA post on how to install TWRP with ODIN for I545 --- this also did not work as I receive an error on one of the security checks
Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!!!
I miss having a custom ROM :crying:
I don't have an MDK phone so I can't be 100% sure, but I think I read that Goo manager and Rom manager don't work for our phones. People are saying to use Flashify.

Thank you guys I used Flashify and install TWRP successfully, am not hear a computer where I can try the second All in One option with, but will keep that bookmarked in case I choose to ODIN stock that looks pretty straight forward also..

SuperSU binary update issues

I had flashed cm13 in my moto e and installed superSU. When i open superSU , it asks me to select the method to update the binary. I chose "normal". It failed. And asked me to try again after reboot. That too failed. Due to this issue i am unable to use foldermount . Is there any solution?

Use version 2.65 or 2.67 (BETA) - It will use the system-less install (means it can be uninstalled from the Apps list).
Also when you flash the new nightlies, be sure to flash the SuperSU zip in recovery again, or else the error which u said earlier might crop up again.
NB: Do Not click on update binaries (normal or any other method, because that might cause issues which prevents the device from booting... I know this, because I myself have faced such problems earlier)

Super SU 2.46 was built only for Lollipop ROMs.
Use SuperSU 2.65 or higher
Steps to install after a clean flash of the ROM:
In the Recovery, flash the SuperSU zip
First the phone will boot incompletely (not for all users though), then will boot normally... don't be afraid
You're done!!!
Steps to be followed while flashing new nightlies:
DON'T update automatically from CM Updater
Download the new zip of CM 13, and go to recovery
Wipe Dalvik/ART Cache and Cache only (Nohting else)
Flash the ROM
Flash the SuperSU zip
You're ready to reboot to the new nightly
Hope this helps
