[Q] MHL to HDMI Adapter: Connecting to TV? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Accessories

Hi everyone. I asked about this some time ago, and someone here recommended an adapter that I bought from Ebay. It was difficult to make it fit into the tablet, but it would fit sometimes. Nowadays, I can't get it to fit at all. It also does not fit into my new android phone, so I thought the cable was just damaged. I bought a different MHL to HDMI adapter (Rankie) from Amazon. This cable is pretty much identical to the first cable I bought. It also does not fit all the way into my tablet or phone (goes in about halfway). Compared to the USB charging cable, I noticed that the silver end piece of the MHL to HDMI adapter is slightly longer and different in shape.
This is the adapter that I tried to use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MY05GNA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Which MHL to HDMI adapter would you recommend specifically? If you could link to the page, I would really appreciate that.

I got the PPA version from Frys yesterday & it does work; will need to connect to a charger since it does drain the battery quickly. Haven't had it long enough to see if it works consistently; plugging the adapter to the 11-pin to 5-pin adapter is a bit tight but that's to the good for a solid fit.
The adapter is also available at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/PPA-Internati...id=1425057983&sr=1-1&keywords=ppa+mhl+to+hdmi
The "sale" at Frys for the last day is 2/28/2015 for $14.95.

30 pin to Micro USB

Curious to find out if this adapter would work on the p6800.. It is said to work with p1000, but i am not sure if it will work with the p6800..
I always have a micro usb cable around for my Galaxy Nexus.. If this works i can leave the proprietary Samsung 30 pin cable home and just carry this small adapter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gala...#ht_1561wt_802
Update - The item is no longer on eBay....
I was wondering... We get this 30-pin male to usb male connector... can we use a usb-male to usb-female connector instead of a direct 30-pin to female connector?!
I bought one of these for my 7.7 and it works fine. It ONLY charges. It cannot be used for data.
Search ebay for "Micro USB Laden Dock Adapter" to get another version of the 30 Pin to micro USB Connector. But again: only charging - no transfer

I got one of these. works great for charging through any micro usb charger, even my usb car charger with a micro usb cable plugged into it.
i got one to try then after i made sure it worked ordered 3 more. home, car, office etc etc
http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=2420
I ordered a few of these to work with my older GTs (original, 7 Plus). They've all worked fine with each. I use them with a retractable usb to micro usb cable to lessen the amount of chargers/cables/portable batteries i need to carry (one set will serve my phone and my tablet and just swap out the ends.)
Both work for me also. USB and uSD. Data transfer and video. Haven't tried charging though. Got mine on eBay. Keep an eye out. They'll return I'll bet.
OEM not working on my P1010

Extension cable for MHL Adapter?

I have a MHL Adapter and I get video just fine. Now I want to be able to sit on my couch while i use the adapter. Seems to me the simplest way would be to use a 15-20 foot Micro USB Male - Micro USB Female extension cable.
Does anyone have any experience with such a setup? Do you have a recommendation for such a cable?
TIA!!
Why micro USB? You can get a HDMI cable as long as you might want (Monoprice is particularly good). If it's not enough you can carry a HDMI signal over a single or (simpler to find) two CAT5 cables w/ RJ45 jacks for hundreds of feet.
I guess the thought was that if I have the Micro USB Extension, then it's one thin lightweight wire that has to travel across the floor.
If I did HDMI, I'd still have to be near power whereas with Micro USB, I could set the power adapter, and HDMI, and MHL Adapter all together and then have a thin and lightweight wire traveling across the floor.
But if it's not possible, (micro USB limitiation??) then HDMI it would have to be.

If the micro USB works it would be much cheaper than a comparable length hdmi cord.

I would test http://www.amazon.com/Extender-over-CAT5E-CAT6-connection/dp/B003L14ZTC this. It's hard to get cheaper than cat5e.
Just bought 10 feet on amazon! Lovely!

I wanted to do exactly this - extend the cable but at the micro-USB end to avoid having the Micro-usb power supply line and the bulky MHL adaptor all where the phone is - much cleaner to just have a thin cable coming out of the phone and headed towards the TV.
I did get hold of a micro-USB extension cable (2m/6ft) but unfortunately it does not work. Directly plugging the phone into the MHL adaptor works perfectly, as soon as I insert the micro-USB extension it doesn't work. I need to have a closer look to check the pins are populated etc, but not sure why this would be an issue - don't think it can be signal strength and if all the pins are populated I don't see why the adaptor would care.????
Any thoughts?
Micro B USB extension not working
I, too have been trying to figure out why an extension cable doesn't work the way you think it might. Today, I tried cutting my 6 foot cable, first making sure I had the right power leads working. Then I went through all the possible combinations of connections to see if one would work. None do. I'm at a complete loss on this wondering what I should try next.
Thanks for info....similarly baffled but at least you have ruled out something!
Like the other guy said, get your x for of hdmi cable, then just plug your AC charger in where you are. Mhl might use additional connectors/pins/whatever vs micro USB. Or you can go totally wireless and use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
Also I remember I had a charging issue with an extension. Sometimes one product works better than others. I can't charge my phone with my 20 dollar AC charger from best buy since the ICS leak. It's weird. Hdmi cables are pretty uniform, I would just extend that.

Yes, that works, always has, but that's not the point. Would rather have just one long cable connected to the phone in front of the TV rather than three cables, the device and the phone in a kludge setup.
A partial answer
This allows connecting 6 feet away with a thin, flexible single cable..Also cheap, but shipping takes 15 days.

I took apart the two cables and the USB has four wires while the MHL cable has ten.
are the mhl wires easily extendable themselves by splicing? I'm thinking strip out a few usb cables and use the wires? Or just go purchase some extremely thin gauge wire (22 gauge) and make it yourself?
Micro B USB extension not working
The Micro B USB connector only has 5 connections, so there is no way you can connect 10 from the MHL cable to it, so something else is going on.

I bought splices and thought about extending the cable. It's possible.
galaxy s3
I did wanted to do the same but the extension cable didn't work. I looked at the connecting points and felt that the micro usb from Mel adaptor is to bit longer than usual so I thought that may be the reason and I shorten it resulting damaging my Mel adaptor itself. Now I am going for allshare cast wireless hub. So everyone please don't try to cut the micro usb pin from your adaptor or u will better decide to for my option to for complete flexibility.
I want to do this EXACT same thing but slightly more extreme:
I want an MHL adapter with 10-25 feet of micro USB cable on the end so I can use it from anywhere in my living room.
Is there any such cable/adapter?
Why do all MHL adapters come with only a 5 inch cable??? It is maddening!
*bump* I am looking for this too.. but I have a reason slightly different.. I have an AppRadio in my car that I connect my phone to. The MHL cable end is rather bulky and does not fit into the opening of my otterbox that is on my phone... most microUSB wires fit into the opening just fine.. Taking my phone out of the case every time I am in the car is rather ridiculous so I bought the micro USB extension (bought a 6" one).. didn;t even register except to charge... So, and ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Get a different MHL adapter. I use an adapter close to the one 7 posts up by hedaleth with my kenwood system in my truck.

[Q] Does it come with a MHL adapter to connect to HDMI?

On the t-moibile site, under features for the phone, it lists:
MHL adaptor for HDMI capability
Does it come with such an adapter out of the box? I'm interested in using it to connect a usb card-reader to it so I can easily copy photos from my camera.

No, I it doesn't come with one in the box. In fact, I it was publicized that no other adapters aside from the official Samsung one would be compatible with the phone because Samsung changed the pin layout for the GSiii.
No, but I found one on Ebay that works great and a lot cheaper to boot!
Edit : Wait...I bought one for my SGSII...I assumed it would work with the SGSIII, but perhaps I'm wrong! I'll have to test it and report back!
I wish. I checked then out online and they are like $40. It seems like way to much to just hook it up to my tv, and then the samsung car mount/charger is another $50. it seems like samsung is going the way of apple. at least apple gives you a dock when you buy a phone.
Don't worry. Third party accessories will catch up soon enough. That is lousy of them to charge so much for such a piddly little adapter.

just buy a USB OTG (on the go, or host usb) adapter if your just looking to transfer files from a card reader, the MHL adapter is primarily for video output, not input
I just got 2 USB host adapters from the link below for less than $3 shipped....also below is a video from android.NZ that shows all the crap we can plug into this beast of a phone
As for MHL Adapter compatibility, it will ONLY work with 11-pin MHL adapters, Most are 5-pin

One Piece Micro USB MHL to HDMI converter/cable

Has anyone confirmed successful use of a One Piece Micro USB MHL to HDMI converter/cable other than the $40 Samsung OEM one? I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Pro and want to push video and audio to HDMI without carrying around three items (as is the case with this solution that seems to work per other posts: http://www.wowparts.com/mhl-to-hdmi...-1-2014-editin-notepro-12-2-tab-pro-8-4-10-1/).
Thanks!
I tried the Skiva unit (which is essentially a commodity - two red six-foot cables - one for power, one for micro-USB, to an HDMI connector, available under dozens of brand names) - no dice. Even the power connection was unreliable.
I have the multi-piece cheap kit with the angular dongle - also a cheap Chinese commodity and probably precisely what Wow is selling, but at several dollars less after shipping and with better Amazon return policies - coming in a few days and will report then.
I very much prefer the approach my Droid 4 takes, of a dedicated Micro-D HDMI output port. For all the great features of the Samsung SM-T320 (the 8.4" Tab Pro), this and the lack of OTG USB power are bizarre omissions.

The EEKit unit works perfectly. But it comes without directions and has about ten parts, of which you need really just three.
Plug the dongle into the TV, plug the tiny micro-USB to micro-USB SIII plug into the phone input, plug a micro-USB male to micro-USB male cable between that and the Samsung tablet. (Several cables are provided that would work.) Plug your charger into the other micro-USB plug on the dongle. It just works. With several parts left over.
One addendum; the EEEKit unit (and presumably the Wow clone) uses the charger to power the dongle, but doesn't seem to use it to power the tablet. The one-piece red unit (Skiva et al) does power the tablet via the cable... which would be more useful if it also worked for it's intended purpose.

And even more data... since I hadn't sent back the Skiva yet, I tried the S III connector that enabled the EEEKit to work on it. It looks like this unit (Amazon).
With it, the Skiva works. Although it didn't charge with this connected. Which implies that the problem is the Samsung isn't doing the standard outputs.
So the solution is either the full EEEKit set, or the one-piece red cable unit with the S III 5-to11 pin converter.
Bummer... don't want to carry around three pieces, but also don't want to spend $40. Hopefully someone will find a 3rd party one-piece that will work and post here...

Plug the pieces together, glue them with superglue, and it's one piece, still only $15.

Multiport Adapter

So, I've got an HDMI adapter, an Ethernet adapter and an OTG adapter, but obviously, I cant use all three at onece, and I can't charge the tablet while I'm using any of them.
Can anyone confirm if the official Samsung Multiport Adapter works with the Tab S4, because it's not listed as a compatible device.
Or, recommend a cheaper alternative that works, specifically, using all ports at once, while charging.
Thanks
It does work, on the Tab S4 page, it says "Recommend accessories for Galaxy Tab S4: Multi Port Adapter (EE-P5000B), HDMI Adapter (EE-HG950), DeX Cable (EE-I3100). Exact model number may vary by country."
What a scam to charge so much for some port extensions.
Sammy management are on crack or something o.0
Nothing cheaper?
Look for an USB C hub in Amazon or a Chinese shop. I bought this.

Hello, i have tested 2 different usb-c multiport dongels. But they dont forward enough current to charge the tab S4. Battery slowly drains when in use (dex or multiwindow) or when screen is off and tablet idle.
So far i have tested:
Eminent AB7872 USB Type-C 4K Multiport Dock
Akasa AK-CBCA01-15BK 0.15m USB C HDMI (max 2a)
Has anyone a good alternative?

In a related thread, a user says edition model number it's working with his tab 4
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-USB-C-Multi-Port-Adapter-EE-PW700BWEGUJ/dp/B01DN09RYI
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-tabpro-s-multiport-adapter-white/5208000.p?skuId=5208000
Best Buy nearby has several in stock and will price match. No Ethernet, though. I just got my tab yesterday so all about outfitting it.
I'm likely to buy one in the morning.
I have this one and everything works fine. The hub is connected to an external Monitor (for Dex), wireless keyboard and mouse, to my Tab S4. I use it pretty much like a small dock on my desk and power delivery works fine.
https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/oneadaptr-evri-usb-type-c-hub/12559438
I bought the Ugreen 8 in 1 multiport adapter from Ali Express. It works realy well, it has great length if you have short tablet stand. I haven't got a PD adapter for fast charging because it uses 7.5w but i don't know the Tab S4 supports Power Delivery and i have a double QC3.0 charger from Aukey but it is not charging fast so i am a bit disappointed.
