[Q] Which ROM(s) for Android 4.0+? - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
I hope this is the correct place to ask this question.
I have a [stock] GT-S5830i running Android Version 2.3.6.
I would like to use this phone with the "Moves" App, however it requires Android Version "4.0 and up".
I have done basic google-searches, but have only found xda-banned ROMs which is obviously less than ideal.
I found a post here listing lots of ROMs compatible with this phone, but cannot see any of them referencing a specific Android Version.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

@GRansom, Please define "Move" app ? IF this is some sort of fitness app which requires 4.0+ support ,there are dozen of Roms available @ Development section such as :Touchwiz-Resurrected ROM; CyanogenMod 11.0 - androidarmv6 [COOPERVE][Nightly Builds]; Ace-i-Sure v.12.0; AceJB ect etc,,,,.
Theoretically You can enjoy Support of Android 4.0+for mostly application that was not supported in GB environment, Provided they must be compatible with your hardware available inside your device ( CPU : 832 MHz Broadcom BCM21553, ARMv6; Memory : 384 MB RAM (accessible: 278 MB).
Search for your app specification, and if you need consultation we are here ,,,

Thanks ehsanotaku,
The Moves App is a fitness app called "Moves", using the accelerometer to detect footsteps. [ play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protogeo.moves ]
Thanks for the example ROM names - I see under the topic of each specific ROM, it sometimes mentions the android version it uses/ports/etc. The main reason I was lost was that this version info wasn't listed on the ROM-overview as far as I could see, so Thankyou very much

And make sure you got all of the essentional sensors available to you , since this is a legacy device and most of fitness apps require some sort of sensors being active for monitoring and stuff i guess. ( Need hardware requirement of app for future comment )

Unfortunately, I cannot find an exact list of hardware requirements; though there is only 1 device explicitly excluded from the app compatibility due to "Samsung Note II cannot run its accelerometer sensor in the background".
I know that the gt-s5830i has an accelerometer, and if this is the only sensor required by the app, there should be no problems [unless may be this device also has a similar restriction on the use of the accelerometer].
Unless someone here is already running this app [or already confirmed this app cannot run], I guess the only thing for me to do is "try it and see".
I'll do my research tonight to find how to do my first rooting-upgrading thingie [not even sure of the exact terms ] while backing up/not losing the IMIE.

[Q] Is it possible make TRACK ID work AOSP 2.1 007a?

Hi
Tried to install track id.apk i found here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739929&page=2
on AOSP 2.1 007a
Butt getting forced closed when trying to launch it.
doing:
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications
Select the TrackID app
Tap on "Clear data"
Tap on "Force stop"
dint work either...
Is it possible? or should i just give up
sorry for bad english.
I imagine like all other manufacturers like HTC , Samung , Motorola etc etc core apps which they designed for a specific user experience are all tied in together with there customised Android Framework, meaning to use such an app you would need all of sony ericssons proprietary files also which obviously defeats the object as you may aswell not bother with having an aosp 2.1 rom also with AOSP you will have no drivers for the X10 Specifically which will mean you will more than likely have errors using hardware unless you fish them out from an SE 2.1 rom
Also on a last note, now i have answered your question, in future remember to ask your questions in the correct forum : x10 Q&A forum
I think you need to install some or all SE APKs to make it work.

You're screenshot is about the permission it uses. Permissions are built in a system, not in an app. Nonetheless it still can depend on an app, but not in the way you mean.
Please post in the proper thread

[Q] Some apps not available after a rom flash why ?

Hello
After a flash some apps are not anymore available on the market, i ve tested many roms and some of them allow the device to be listed in play.google.com/store/account My order & devices.
If it is listed the devices will have the status for the desired application : not compatible, which is not true.
I ve tried market enabler, but without out success. It seems not related to the version of android used, nor the kernel.
the rom i use is (GB)Miui Special Edition V11 Multilanguage(2.3.2)(Bravia Engine) V11 and the application is Exchange by TouchDown Key.
thanks a lot for your helps

Why did you leave XDA? We need you!
Your ROMs were first of the kind for our device. Moreover, good developers are leaving development of this device because they have moved on to another device.
Optimus One users want good ROMs too!
Hephappy left xda but still actively working on P500

Feedback - [DEV][ROM][4.4.2] [CM11] KITKAT for LG-P500[WIP][VER-1]
I've been using this KITKAT Rom (from 27. December) for 5 days now and I'm really impressed of it - thx goes to mukulsoni and hephappy.
My feedback here, since I'm not allowed to post on a dev thread:
- Battery backup is acceptable with 2 days for me (Wifi off, Location off, low usage)
- Installed Calendar from PlayStore and calendar syncronization is working
- If you do not want to use Hangeout as you default sms client you can install 8sms from the PlayStore instead (which I did)
- Not Working:
- Wifi Tethering (@mukulsoni please add to not working list)
- voice search does not work for me (maybe someone else knows how to get it working?)
- overall performance (smartassV2, 240-710) is good but not snappy (I'm using a class 10 8GB sdcard).
Conclusion:
@all who are interested in KITKAT on our old P500, give the linked ROM a try - you won't be disappointed.

Did not like the Dec 27 build.
I am running the Omni preview which is more or less cm-11. Favorably impressed.
Offline voice search will not work on our armv6 device. Thanks Google.
Online voice does work. Use voice dictation or swype/dragon to get it into google search. Must tap search, but ...
Actually, something before getting the voice is what armv6 stops. I cannot reproduce how I got there, but I had it actually, init, take my voice and get results!! Once, just once. So ... who knows?

So it seems that online voice search is not working for now.
Why do you prefer the Omni preview? Could you please give some more details?

I took this because this is what is being developed right now, where fixes are going.
On-line voice does work. Go to settings->language&input->voice recognition. Since you are likely running with Google Search around, you will see two (count 'em) google options here. Choose the other one.
If you only see one, you need to install the old VoiceSearch.
Feedback - [DEV][ROM][4.4.2] [CM11] KITKAT for LG-P500[WIP][VER-3]
Changes between Ver1 and Ver3 I encountered
- battery consumption seems to be improved a little bit
- stock SMS/MMS app included now (no need for Hangout or 8sms)
- "national roaming" support seems to be gone now (new MVNO Settins are unclear for me - any hints are welcome)
- camera problems
- autofocus does not work anymore - focus does not go green (worked on Ver1)
- choosing HDR option leeds to FC of camera app (to disable HDR you have to clean App Settings)
Trying to record a video freezed the phone (gave me an FC on Ver1) - had to remove the battery.
Experiences from other users are welcome.

I am not allowed to post in dev thread, so please be lenient towards me.
Back to my update problem: I already checked md5 hash and in Addition I repartioned and formatted my sdcard, formatted system and tried to flash via recovery (ver from 16th january) - but same error.
Is it possible that system of this rom is almost full and that some memory blocks of my system storage is dead? It is just an assumption or guess, but if too few memory could cause such an upgrade failure, which apps are secure to remove?
Once again, thx for any hints.

[Q] Best version for s8500 wave?

I drop using my Wave long ago, even tho in the meanwhile I used it to watch some spanish streaming tv with the tv output on a crt tv, but now I want to change its OS with a nice version of android, to have a backup of my main android phone (a Vodafone Smart Mini/875 with jellybean 4.1.1) that's actually giving me some troubles.
So now I'm a bit lost, I already found and read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sam...t-android-roms-samsung-wave-gt-s8500-t2842566 where there's some kind of a list of the actual custom portings, but not all states the android version, besides it seems to not include the 5.* lollipop versions.
What I want to install is a complete and hopefully stable version, it doesn't need to be lollipop/5.*, expecially if it doesn't give any benefit except to being the newest/up-to-date but it eats more ram memory (that with only 512 Mb is an issue, the 875 have the same amount and with jb eats up more or less 400Mb~), and I need (almost) every feature available on Bada being present on Android too (like: tv output, camera button, bluetooth, wifi, 2g/3g/3.5g data/voice/txt, etc.).
I'm just asking to point me (/suggesting) to the right direction (thread/release) to the best or better options available for me.
Thank you in advance!
Man , i will answer you but you better do what i say , cause it is the only truth
Badadroid project start with a couple of an amazing developers , those formed the porting team
the first ROM to be ported to wave was developed by Rebellos and Volk204
after that Volk204 took the project by himself
so:
Any ROMs by volk204 are worth using
Any other ROM you see are just kang/copie of his work by some amateurs , and are without actual support (not if Volk204 doesn't fix the problem himself )
I recommend you using OMni rom 4.4.4 by volk204 and flash RIL fix from this post

Omni Lollipop are not for daily use , major problem with it ; is the low free memory , apps will just close , you can't use (for me Endomondo + Music ) it will work to certain point ; than Android will kill one of the 2 apps
Fellow my Guide , it has most of the thing you need
The complete Optimization Guide for Omni Rom (4.4 and Lollipop)
And in earlier this year an another Recognized developer here on XDA "Alberto96" got an interest in developing ROM for wave1/wave2
he released a nice ROM , and now the links are dead , but he is BACK and he is working on his trademark ROM "GearCM" for our wave and from what i see in the his Github , it gonna be awesome
So :
Best ROM now (actual one ROM exist , it is not like i will tell something new ) [ROM][WIP][NAND] Omni 4.4 - 11.12.2014 By volk204 (don not install Gapps)
Best ROM ( Future release ) GearCM by alberto96 fellow his GIthub https://github.com/Alberto96?tab=activity
so what are the other ROMs released by Rebellos and Volk204:
it been like this since the very earlier day of Badadroid
Bugs fix go along with ROM updates , they didn't work on the same android version , every couple and there a major bug fix come with the Cyanogen source update
So anything less than Omni 4.4 (11.12.2014) has more bugs .
i must mention
Senior member Hero355 he did work on a promising ROM (Smartkat) by he got busy with life and let the project unfinished . But his Bada 2.0 Turko Rom is just Great
Senior member BenzoX he did work on Dual boot (Bada/android) and Dual android rom boot, he did work on nand and sd ROM (he is also got busy and let some things not fixed ) s
some people are using this unfinished Alpha projects , what do you expect from their ROMs :crying:
there is nothing else you need to know
Kind regards
So now. With Liondroid, Omni 6.0, GearCM and omni 4.4.4 which one can be considered for a daily use?
In my opinion, if GearCM had a better communication management it would be the best.
if you do not mind the theme in Russian, then take a look http://www.badapps.ru/6081-ledenec-ot-djkoloda-dlya-samsung-wave-8500-i-853008242015.html
Looks promising. At the moment I'm trying liondroid (very smooth but I need further tests) but I keep your link for later.
Maybe you could see with the creator to put his version on xda?

Omni 4.4 by volk204, but I figured it out, wipe some data in recovery and I could reflash the ROM again and flash other gapps.. but now, I'm having trouble with the Google play services last update , it's laggy.. I'm trying to optimize the rom with the guide by @ice_ice where there's a section to put the Google play services like it wasn't never installed...but I'm cannot find the option WAKEUP with the 3C Tools app to disable it, I can't disable other services of Google play services becase the phone it's so slow that it shuts down after a while and I can't make it...
Do you think that the YouTube App and whatsapp will work fine if I uninstall the updates? I mean, That would be easier to make, because the updates are killing the ram... It's my dad's phone, so he just need whatsapp, something to check the Facebook (I installed the lite version), YouTube and Something to open Gmail (any reasonable lite app for Gmail?)
Dsebas91 , I use the 4.4.4 by djkoloda without installing, gapps .
All the apps I downloaded in *.apk files.
Recommend YouTube_v4.1.47.apk .
Gmail I checked by logging into account from a standard browser.
Sync contacts with Google through a program of CardDav-Sync.

[MOD][Xposed] Make Infrared Blaster working with all 3rd party apps (on EUI)

Update: Dec 6th, 2016: published version 1.1, works now with more LeEco phones. Btw, module was renamed to "LeEco Infrared Fix".
Hi!
I've created the Xposed module "LeEco Infrared Fix" for the LePro 3 (but seems to work on other LeEco phones too) which tries to make the IR blaster (the infrared hardware) usable via the standard Android API. This means that all 3rd-party infrared apps which use the standard API should work!
The module is open-source, you can find the code here on GitHub.
For background infos and details look into this thread: [REF] How Infrared is (not) working on LePro3 - some infos for IR devs.
Restrictions:
Problably only working with EUI (will not work on plain cyanogenmod. Update: seems to work also on Cyanogenmod as long as the proprietary sysrem app "UEI Android Services SDK(LeTV)" from the device's original ROM is also installed (as system app?) in Cyanogenmod). Developed on my LePro 3 --> Please give feedback if it also works on other phones or EUI versions
The app UEI Android Services SDK(LeTV) (QuickSet SDK Service) must not be removed or disabled (this service is responsible for talking to the IR chip). Its internal package name is: com.uei.quicksetsdk.letv.
It supports only sending Infrared (no receiving, learning-mode) simply because the standard Android API has no support yet for receiving infrared. But the original LeEco remote control app should still be able to use the learning-mode.
This module overrides the standard Android Infrared API, so this means the standard Infrared API must already be present in the ROM! This the case for EUI 5.8.018S on the LePro 3 but might not be the case on other ROMs. :-/ Update: no longer necessary since version 1.1
But you can disable or remove the original Le Eco remote control app. Or you can keep it. Just as you like. It should be able to co-exist with 3rd party apps.
Reported to work with following devices / ROMs:
LeEco Le Pro 3 (LEX720) running EUI 5.8.018S (tested by myself)
LeEco Le 2 MTK Chipset running EUI 5.9.020s (according to this posting from @bearady)
LeEco Le 2 X526 running EUI 5.9.020S (according to this posting from @jhakjhuk1853 and this posting from @kedaranmol)
LeEco Le Max 2 X820 running Madsurfer's 21s EUI 5.9 Rom according to this posting from @serc
LeEco LePro 3 running CM13 (as long as the proprietary system app "UEI Android Services SDK(LeTV)" from the original EUI ROM of the same device is also installed (as system app?) in Cyanogenmod)
Please report in comments if it's also working for other versions or devices, so I can complete this list.
Changelog and older releases:
see Changelog on Github
all releases can be downloaded from release page on Github
Also:
Here be dragons.. (aka bugs)
8 days ago I had no idea how infrared works, had never used the infrared API or even used any infrared app. I just started poking around and then things escalated quickly (you can follow my story in this other thread if you have some hours to read...). Keep in mind that working with the infrared API is new for me, so there might be bugs..
If it's working or not, please give feedback.
Btw, I'm currently testing with the app RCoid free which works perfectly for me (and which I really like). I also tested with these randomly chosen apps: ZaZa Remote-Universal Remote, ASmart Remote IR and IR Universal Remote and all of them worked.
Download:
via Download section in Xposed Installer app (click on the link from your phone and the Xposed installer app should open)
releases page on Github
or download attachment of this posting
Awesome, I do not use the IR blaster but thanks for the time and work!

but i will look at later versions, for me this is very important
thanks for your work

thank you androcheck
Tried on eUI 5.8.19s with Le 1s Eco. ended up with boot loop.
im testing again to ensure the bootloop not bcos of this module... unfortunately couldn't get a logcat
@androcheck can you post this in xposed modules repo that would be useful.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Good idea, I will it submit to the Xposed repo. :good:
Yes, it's very likely that this might not work well on other devices (or even other EUI versions) as the tricks needed to get this working are very specific targeted. But in the other side (under the assumption that the used IR Blaster and QuickSet SDK is the same than on LePro 3) it might only require some small changes to get it working.
The logfiles from Xposed and maybe a Logcat (from the start of boot) would be extremly useful to see what's going wrong:
Boot into TWRP recovery and copy the Xposed logs to your computer:
Code:
adb pull /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/log/error.log
adb pull /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/log/error.log.old
Then boot normally start logcat from the beginning of boot (start it even before you see the bootanimation):
Code:
adb logcat -v time '*:V' > logcat_lepro3_boottime.txt
[edit]
If you experience a bootloop (caused by my module), simply boot into TWRP and delete my app from there: Just navigate to the directory "/data/app", there you should find a subdirectotry named "at.zweng.xposed.debug.infrared-1" (maybe the digit at the end is different) and just delete this whole directory.
[/edit]
Done. Published it into Xposed repo. Just search for "LePro 3 Infrared Fix".
Also I would like to get feedback from LePro3 users if it's working on the newer EUI versions for the american version. (And please include logs if it's not working.)
And when we finally have a working cyanogenmod device tree (so that we can build it ourselves) I will happily support developers to get this working for cyanogenmod, too so that infrared will work there out-of-the-box without the need for an Xposed module. (After searching the forums here on XDA I guess this would make the LePro3 being the first device with a UniversalElectronics IR chip where infrared will work on cyanogenmod with all 3rd party apps. )

One thought: could you test with an app like z-device test if the phone advertises having infrared capabilities to apps?
Because this is the case with the LePro 3. It has the Infrared API included (so all infrared apps install and work fine), but just didn't do anything.
My module only works if the Infrared API is already present in first place.
I did not understand what you meant about the camera.

May be he meant to say about working camera 2 API
Z-device test says no IR capabilities

One thought: could you test with an app like z-device test if the phone advertises having infrared capabilities to apps?
Because this is the case with the LePro 3. It has the Infrared API included (so all infrared apps install and work fine), but just didn't do anything.

Z-device test says no IR capabilities in Le 2 (X526) Indian Version. So i guess we cant use your xposed module? Is there any way to add the Infrared API with rooted phone? I could test it, if you have any theories...
OMG...you're a life saver and a genius.I can confirm it worked on Leeco Le 2 X620 eui 5.9.020s mtk chipset. I've tested with Anymote,Rcoid(also suggested by you),Peel Smart and Zaza Remote. Thank you very much...respect for your work
Which eui version?
One of the user said worked on mtk 20s we can also try on Chinese 20s

I am currently playing around and testing.. I am trying to hook also all the relevant PackageManager methods, so that for an app everything looks like if there is a standard infrared HAL implementation available. Not sure, if this would work for the X526.
If the IR blaster hardware or the QuickSet SDK is only a little bit different, then it might not work. So this is just a try.. Don't get your hopes too high..

Hi! I think there is a misunderstanding what Xposed is and what it's used for. Xposed is a (not so easy) way to "hook" (in other words: modify) existing code during runtime.
It's complicated to work with Xposed and it should only be the last resort if you have no other ways to do it. If you have the orginal source code of some peace of software it's MUCH easier to just work with the plain source code and fix the bugs directly there before you build it (and not take the unnecessarily complicated road with Xposed).
In Cyanogenmod you have all the source code (besides low-level drivers, and there Xposed also cannot be used), so devs should try to fix the errors in the source code, not with Xposed. Also, I have never worked with Camera API (and I can only assume that it's way more complicated than Infrared), so I'm afraid I cannot really help here.
Hi, @serc, @reversegear, @kedaranmol, @jhakjhuk1853!
I've extended the module so that it now also fakes the availability of standard Android Infrared API. So now all Infrared apps should think infrared is available. I attached it to this posting below. Update: removed attachement, use final version 1.1 instead from first post (or from Xposed installer app)
Maybe you can try it this beta version on your devices. No guarantee that it will work (as I don't have the devices for testing). If it seems to work please verify with a digital camera or another's phone camera that the infrared LED actually is really emitting light (cameras can see infrared light, which humans cannot see).
--> also please report your exact phone model plus the version of the ROM you're running!
If it's not working I would need a logcat output (started directly at boot) as well as the Xposed logfile (found in the Xposed installer app).
Code:
adb logcat -v time '*:V' >> logcat_debug_infrared.txt
Have fun!
[EDIT]
Removed BETA attachement as final version 1.1 is now released in Xposed installer app (and in first post)
[/EDIT]
update : le2 x526 EUI 20s version
after installing module phone booted succesfuly
installing peel smart and report back when home will check on TV
will check and report in 10min
thank you

I have tested it and I can confirm that this xposed module now works on Le 2 X526 (Indian version with Snapdragon 652). I can see IR signals from another phone's camera using the Anymote Universal Remote and Rcoid. But strangely SURE Universal Remote for TV didn't work for me. I will test with other apps later when I get home. I am yet to test if this works with my TV and other devices. Will update when I do this.
Hi Androcheck compliment you are a Genius !!!
ver. 1.1 beta
my Phone LeEco LeMax2 x820 with Madsurfer's 21s EUI 5.9 Rom, from lemax2 forum xda
rCoid remote is running wonderfull, for me one of the important things at this phone.
Thank You very much , i am now very very happy
Hi, @jhakjhuk1853, @kedaranmol and @serc!
Thanks for reporting back! I will clean up the code (remove a little bit of the debug logging I've included for the case if it wouldn't work), and will make a new clean 1.1 release (and also release the source again).
I'm glad you like it! At the beginning I only wanted to solve this problem just for me personally, but I am happy that my solution now even is working for several devices.
(And if you like it really much and feel like buying me a coffee, there is also a donation link at my profile page.. )
P.S.: The app SURE Universal Remote for TV also doesn't work for me. It seems that they are not only using the standard API to query for infrared capabilities. Hmm.. it looks like they include several other proprietary IR implementations to make it work on as much devices as possible. It seems there is also a version of QuickSet SDK included but it's a different one than the one we see in our phones (I guess it's for LG phones). I'm not sure what exactly is causing the problem.
