Backup contains VIRUS?!! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I copied all my nandroid backups to my laptop. Then I did a full scan on Kaspersky Internet Security & this is what I got...! Why does this happen?

Problem solved... It was happening because of the "Hosts" file in the backup.

Yes that usually happens since the hosts file contain the blocks to site you wish to, and especially if you have used lucky patcher or freedom since that blocks access to Google

Renaming backups. Help

Why is it that when I rename one of my backups (rom manager) when I try to restore it later on it gives me an error message?
I haven't had issues with this. What is the version of CWR/rom manager you are running? have you tried restoring in recovery?

Running the latest, yes i've tried that also.
I do this all the time (10+ times a week) without problem. This isn't a known or widespread issue.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
*Ahem* Do you have any spaces in the names for the backup?
Yeah, that'll do it.
I was about to say the same thing. Post an exact example of what you are trying to rename the backup. Probably either spaces or unallowed characters being used.
This is pretty much the ONLY thing I use RM for. I do a nandroid manually and then rename it with RM. I've never had it happen but doesn't it reject your rename if it is unacceptable?
I've never had a renamed backup give an error at restore.
Like a couple people have said, it's more than likely not happy with what you're renaming it as.
I typically do mine like this, "20110531_BAMF_Remix_1-7"

[Q] data.img extracted, how to use the files?

Hello!
First of all, i have the Huawei IDEOS X5 running stock rom with android 2.2.1.
Let's go to the point.
Some days ago, something went wrong with my phone and it couldn't boot. (Details here)
As i was told, i took a backup with CWM (in order to recover later lost data) and i managed to restore an OLD backup and the phone seems to work like a charm. My major concern now is how to get some data that are stored in the data.img .
After some reading here at XDA, i successfully extracted the content of the data.img and located the files that i want to "restore".
And here is the question, is this possible?
If yes, what should i do?
FYI, at my PC i run windows 7.
Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Ok. All you need to do is choose the "Advanced Restore" option to independently choose the data.img to be restored.

i forgot to mention it, but this was the second thing that i tried. (the first was to clear the cache )
Neither of them worked, so, i assume that something is wrong with data.img .

as i said, i have succesfully extracted the content of data.img (detailed how to).
my problem is that i don't know how to send them back to my mobile!
finally i made it!
it wasn't that difficult, but i didn't know that with es file explorer you are able to see the root folder!
To sum up, if you want to restore some app data (app settings, sms archive etc) you first have to extract the data.img file (guide here), then you search in extracted folders the directory data/data/[your_app_name] for your app data.
Then you simply copy the whole folder to your sd and with es file explorer you move it to the correct place (/data/data/[your_app_name]). Overwrite if asked and restart the app if it's running.
easy huh?
thanks for all the replies folks!

[Q] Home button doesn't work with CM11 (in YPG1)

Hi guys,
I just installed the Cyanogenmod 11 (Kit Kat) in my YP-G1 (US) and now the home button doesn't work. I have read that this problem could be solved with a "wipe data". Is that true?
The installation was made from the stock rom (rooted), then TerraSilent, then the preflash and finally the cm-11.zip (and obviously the gapps).
Thank you so much!

you are most likely missing parts of your efs. as the install instructions said, make sure you have a backup so you can restore it. just put the needed files in your efs folder and you should be set

I did not have this issue on CM 10.2, so flashing to CM 11 caused my EFS to disappear? At the moment, I am back at stock and trying to restore my EFS with zaclimon's dummy EFS, but I don't seem to be making too much progress, as I still am missing my lockscreen and power options.

I doubt that your efs got erased with the flash of cm11, have you checked it to see if everything was in order? If so are you able to restore your efs from the backup made into /sdcard/backup/efs?

I actually was unable to find any backups by the time I was able to access data again. Admittedly, I had wiped data in order to get everything up and running onto kit Kat, and even after that, I was not able to find a backup, which led me to resort to the dummy efs.
Wiping system after replacing the EFS with the dummy, and flashing factoryfs worked wonders. I am now back up and running, home button works fine, however, i still cannot seem to charge my device on CM10.2, something that I forgot to check while I was on CM11, so I will check that out now.
^ Same problem, can you help me with replacing using the dummy EFS? I'm assuming you follow Zaclimon's recovery method (using Heimdall because mine is US) but I don't know how to incorporate the EFS dummy file in there. I've reformatted to stock before but can't figure out what to do with the EFS.
I have no EFS backup though I did notice there were a couple files in a folder called system/firmware/efs
Although I fixed the EFS issue, my battery doesn't seem to want to charge. When it is plugged in, the battery indicator in the status bar shows charging, but battery stats in settings says it is not charging.
For the dummy EFS, just edit the files that Zaclimon says to edit in his post. Check your MAC address in phone information in settings, and copy that into your bt.txt. The buyer_code.dat can be opened up in wordpad, and I changed it to XAA. Lastly, serial.info should be your serial number, which you can find in the battery compartment on a sticker. After all of that is done, copy everything in the dummy efs to your efs folder on your device, wipe system, and reboot. That's all I have done to get it working. Once everything is working just fine, save that edited dummy efs somewhere, in my case, I have it saved in a Google drive folder, as the reason why I lost my EFS in the first place was because my computer was wiped along with all of my backups.
I've gotten and changed the three files but now can't find how to paste the EFS folder over the one in the system. I can't do it with file manager and permission is denied when I try doing it in ES File Explorer (even though it's granted root acces).
Also, there are two EFS folders on the system, on in /efs and one which is /sys/firmware/efs.....not sure which one to copy over.

Do you have supersu installed from the play store? I had a similar issue once before, just install super su and then reinstall es file explorer, then grant access through super su. Also, just copy over to /efs, make sure you transfer everything from the dummy efs, including the modified files.
I have re-rooted by re-flashing CM11 but the problem I'm having now is that ES File explorer says no space available on /device when I try and copy/paste the EFS folder there over the old one. The other file managers like Astro don't seem to work either when doing it.
Question...after you copy/paste the backup folder in /system, do you close and then format /system or wipe data/factory reset?
Ok, this is a very strange device. After copying/pasting another backup up efs withotu doing any factory or system reset stuff and just restarting....home button is working.
What I'm curious about is why some people can install CM11 without this issue and others have to restore the efs....there must be a way to install CM11 without having to worry about efs problems.
Home Button Not Working.
May I get instructions on how to fix the home button issue on the cm11? I am on Carbon.
Found a partial fix
Home button fix (without messing with /efs) worked for my wifes phone.
Still, quick settings doesn't work (can't switch to panel by pressing button from drawer)
Tested, incoming calls/texts work fine.
Run terminal
su
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
“update global set value=1 where name=’device_provisioned’;”
Reboot your tablet/phone
You might want to "select * from global where name=’device_provisioned’;" before the update query, to be certain what you're changing from in case you need to change it back.

Uninstalling bloatware on the M8 help

So i rooted my phone and installed an app called "Uninstall" that deletes the bloatware and it worked... until I powered it off then on and then I saw the bloatware return. I even tried different apps to get rid of the bloatware with no luck. Please help
Just flash a Rom. All the work is already done for you.

What good is a rooted phone if you don't have either titanium backup or ROM toolbox pro? Either one of those apps will do the trick if you'd like to remain stock. I personally have used ROM toolbox pro for years and prefer it over titanium backup because of it's UI which makes it more user friendly

Ok, I'm not exactly sure how the internal file system is set up as I've yet to receive my M8 but if it's anything like the previous android file systems (which I'm guessing is the case), you can use a file explorer (root explorer, ES explorer, Astro explorer) to navigate to /system/app. You may have to switch R/O to R/W within the file explorer depending on which file explorer you choose to make changes to the internal card. Within the /system/app folder, you'll see all the system apks. BE VERY CAREFUL to NOT delete things you are not absolutely positively sure about. Deleting the wrong app may render your device useless so do be careful. If you do not see the bloat apks you're looking for, navigate back to the internal root directory and search for /data/app. Here is where the other apks should be stored. Perhaps the file system is a little different but i've used 4.4.2 on several different phones and it has been the same structure.

Yes, do a backup in TWRP prior to deleting anything. This way if you do manage to screw something up, you can get back to where you were :good:

That is bizarre. Can't say I've ever encountered that. Custom Romage it is then. I'll need to hold off until a full stock restore with associated flag removals is an option
I had the same issue.. rooted my phone, downloaded an app hider and solved my issue, kinda.
xda user eyeamgreg managed to debloat and he was nice enough to shed some light on how he accomplished this. He said he s-OFFed, used cleaner master and for the apps cleaner master wouldn't remove, he used titanium backup. It appears that with s-ON, the apps will reappear upon deletion. If this works for ya, make sure you spank his thanks button

It might be because you can't write to the system partition, even with root. Flash this kernel over stock and you should be able to delete system apps, even with S-ON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705074

eBay images not showing

i've been having this problem for a month now. eBay images says not available. Can see thumbnail, but not gallery images when i clicked on the auction. Called ebay, but they said it's on my end. Only thing i think i did was update Adfree when it first occurred, which i did uninstall, but I don't think that was the problem. Tried clearing out cache and data app. Also using different browsers like chrome, puffin, uc, boat, and android. Tried tethering and images doesn't show on pc browser also, but I can see on pc browser when i connect to home wifi.

I'm not familiar with Adfree but I use AdAway. If they at all work similarly, which is by rewriting the hosts file to reroute requests to ad servers, simply uninstalling Adfree would not disable the ad blocking as the hosts file remains the same. Hopefully, if you reinstall it, there will still be an option to restore the original hosts file. If not, there may still be a backup of your hosts file in your phone. Just dig around with a file explorer. If all else fails, try to find a copy of the stock hosts file for your phone online and put that in there. I guess you could make a nandroid backup, factory reset, pull the hosts file onto your SD card, restore the nandroid backup, and copy that hosts file in too.

i really don' t think it's Adfree. As I have used it in the past and updated and never had any problems with it. I used Adaway also with no problems. There was a revert back host, which i tried, but still nothing.

i just ended up doing a restore thru recovery from a backup i had when i first installed a rom (Luckily I backup from ther). Figured it was easier since I didn't know what caused it, but it fixed the problem. Now just have to spend time reinstalling all my apps and settings. Probably just use adaway this time. thanks for the reply
