No good reason except to keep up with the latest and greatest. It has a couple of nice features but is still a little buggy according to several threads I've read.
I'm staying on 4.4.2 until 5.02 comes out to fix some of the little bugs and Xposed module is stable and works correctly.

Good idea. I did the upgrade and immediately my battery life was cut by a quarter. Instead of going from 6am to 11 pm I now have to recharge by 3pm. Samsung, of course, doens't have an answer. I did a factory reset and that didn't have an effect. One support guy told me to wait til the phone 'adjusted' to the new OS. It's a phone, not a living thing! It works or it does not. And because of some mojo stuff the update did to the phone rumor says you can't go back to KitKat.
I'd wait until this is worked out before I upgraded.

If your rooted try changing the governor/scheduler to Powersave and CFQ ..
My battery life has doubled.
At 10pm my phone is still 50 to 60 % left.
Also turn-off animations and De-bloat it.

Not rooted so that's out. Did all the rest and still bad battery life.

The good news is that Omega Rom is coming out with a Lollipop version shortly. That's the Rom I've been on for years over several different devices and their releases are pretty stable. So I'll give it a shot when the new Omega is released.

I went back to KitKat yesterday and my battery life is excellent again. I'll think long and hard before I upgrade again. All things considered equal if your battery doesn't last any additionally functionality is a waste. Poor move, Goggle.

No dont do it its really not worth it!! Kitkat is way better!

I'm getting better battery life on Lollipop and like it so far. ::Indie:: does a great job with the Omega ROM. His Lollipop ROM is no exception.
I don't really like the white background on everything but I'm sure there will be themes out shortly.

I'm really enjoying lollipop. Running http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/development/mods-lolliozop-t3036068 everything customizable and smooth. Only missing xposed

[Q] Is there a rom w/ Android version 4.2.2 with Touchwiz?

I like Touchwiz with its multiwindow and s-pen functions, is there a rom with version 4.2.2 if not which rom is best of the 4.1.2 versions? Thank you in advance! :good:
there's no 4.2 tw rom for n2 yet, it'll have to get ported from the s4 if it's going to happen before the international n2 gets updated, but that's a lot of work.
as far as 4.1 goes there's lots of great fit stable rom's right now. meanbean ice is my favorite but beans, jedi, and clean are really popular.
if you enjoy multiwindow, you might want to try minitab or moon (being released soon) because they're note 10.1 roms ported to our phones so they have floating windows (multiwindow on steroids).

I wish someone could port it from the S4 because I'm debating going back to touchwiz. I like the features and customizations from 4.2.2 but the battery life is terrible and I miss all the touchwiz features...

Try a different kernel, I'm using Plasma and easily get what I did with TW of not better.
As for porting..... That would be a huge pain in the ass to do, porting from the international Note 2 isn't terribly difficult but porting from another phone is. Also if the Dev just did a straight port them you would have no S-pen features at all. It would be extremely difficult to get a good working version of 4.2 ported without S-pen features, with S-pen features would take even longer because the Dev would have to figure out how to add it in without breaking everything. Really don't expect to see a fully functional 4.2 TW ROM with S-pen support until it has been released on the international Note 2.

I actually have been using Plasma.
I've tried everything people claim fixes it. I've flashed the latest modem, been running matrix/plasma for months, updated the play store, etc.
The android OS still constantly takes 50-60% battery or more and the phone rarely goes into deep sleep. I just flashed Beans 18 and restored my LS2.5 nandroid about 10 minutes later. Touchwiz is ugly as hell, so I'm just going to suffer through the battery life in hopes that it magically gets fixed.

Have you tweaked with the Plasma settings? If not check out this thread:

Also Android taking up that much battery isn't the ROM it is an app keeping you from going into a deep sleep.

I'll look at that guide, but everyone says that it's a problem with the rom. Not saying it's specifically this rom, but 4.2.2 in general. I mentioned this problem to my friend and he installed a 4.2.2 rom and had the same problem. He's got a different phone, I forget what it is. I even googled it after switching to aosp and it's a common problem on tablets with stock 4.2.2 as well.
I stopped reading about it but last I checked, nobody really knew wtf was causing it.

That's weird that you've heard that. I can easily get excellent battery life out of 4.2, it depenfs how you use your device but get greenify, get matrix or plasma whatever the hell he calls it more and learn how to tweak a kernel for your needs, this case being battery life.

Well it's specifically 4.2.2 and cm 10.1 builds that have the problem. My friend had cm 10 and had great battery life, but when I told him about my phone and 4.2.2 he flashed a cm 10.1 ROM and his battery life went down as well.
They talk about it in the cm thread too.
But I tried tweaking the voltages just like in that guide and as soon as I make any changes the phone locks up and I have to pull the battery. One time it actually messed up something on the phone because it got stuck in a boot loop and I had to restore a nandroid.
I've tried in stweaks and in the native performance settings and it always ends up locking up and I have to pull the battery.

Damn that sucks, processors are so touchy they really do vary phone to phone. I don't follow CM so that makes sense. The best you can do is start undervolting one step at a time and seeing how much your phone can take. I think this CPU is so capable you could probably keep a max of 3 cores online, and take the max clockspeeds of the CPU and GPU down a step (so 1400 for CPU, i forget what's right under 533mhz for GPU).
That's if you really want to be on CM. There's a lot of great 4.2 alternatives out there that are more capable and stable than CM.

Seeing as how the AOSP builds are all based on CM it would be a widespread problem. You have an app that is eating up your battery instead of allowing it to go into deep sleep. Get wake lock detector or a similar app from the market and let it run.

I saw this via SamMobile. It makes me think we aren't too far from a genuine 4.2.2 rom.

Try the touchwiz roms. Every one of them is solid. The only issues are gps on the international based builds and thats an easy fix. They are all fully functional and smooth running. No need for that stock crap lol.

4.3 is AWfFUL!

Upgraded to official 4.3 UK release, from an unmodded 4.2.2, and it's awful.
Lock ups, freezes, flickering screen, bluetooth failure and spontaneous reboots.
Undoubtedly the buggiest version of any mobile OS I ever had on anything.
My advice: Stay away from this piece of **** until the many bugs have been ironed out.
And to think that we're only getting 4.3 when really it should have been 4.4 straight away.
Shame on you, Sony!
Haven't had a single issue with mine and im on 4.3 bad flash maybe?

You could flash a custom ROM? I use pacman 4.3 or go with cm10.1 (4.2.2) or CM 10.2 (4.4.2 Kitkat)
I recommend the pacman. Has more tweaks and GPS works. Official cm GPS is not working but everything else does and both ROMs are very stable.
Can someone explain to me what the advantages of using stock fw on this device? I was pretty sure that there weren't any.

Just a corection.cm11 is android 4.4.2 and on latest nightly gps works.about the advantage of using stock fw i have a feeling that the battery is a bit better but i dont really know as i dont have stock fw since 4.1.2.how is your battery on cm11?
I tend to agree that it is probably a bad flash... I think the 4.3 update is the best yet for the Tab Z. Performance is up by atleast 2k points in Antutu and even daily use seems much smoother. No crashes or lockups till now and I've been using the tab non-stop since the update (without any kind of restart).

Have you done a factory reset after upgrade to 4.3 ?
I also had issues after upgrading, byt a friendly user here told me to try a factory reset - since that the only issue I have is random flickering when keyboard is active, everything else works like a dream
4.3 is Solid Stable and Smooth, don't have any single issue as mention by OP.
Complete reset on the device seems to have fixed the problems. Wasn't even able to back up with Sony Companion.
Happy for now (after a couple of hours or re-installing and re-configuring), but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm using pacrom now which is jb 4.3.battery is very good! I'll do a full battery drain and will post results sometime next week. I use greenify which im sure helps and use boot manager. This ROM also has a number of power saving options you can implement not found on cm ROMs under the pacrom settings. Its my daily driver. i really like this tablet! Took it snorkling today in Barbados, it doesn't float to well, luckly I still have it! had it out all day taking photos in the ocean, screen full brightness, was 70% when I got home. That's with No Bluetooth or WiFi. This ROM does a great job too of retaining juice when its in a suspend state. Very little drain

I have only 2 reboots playing n.o.v.a. 3 everything else is simply perfectly
My experience is that 4.3 blows, just as OP stated.
I did the initial update - lots of crashes/freezes.
So I did a repair - same issue
Then re-flashed using flashtool - still bad
And then flashed 4.2.2 - and tablet is back to its former glory.
What could possibly be causing some users to be having such a hard time with it, while others are loving it?
So strange how this has been happening. There must be something with some of the firmwares. I'm one of the people who have had no issue with 4.3

Installing a new Operation System on a old one, can cause problems and instability. That`s not Android or Sony specific.
The only issue I have experienced is the random screen flicker when using the keyboard... Hope there is a fix soon, or else I may have to look into whether there is a way to downgrade to 4.2.2.
New to the device, so not sure is there is a Sony equivalent to something like Odin for Samsung...

4.3 woes
I had problems with the 4.3 ota upate. Had screen flickering, especially bad when running chrome browser. and the pulldown notification shade was down and dimmed the back screen
random reboots, freezing. tablet was practically unuseable.
flashed my original firmware back over and all was working great again.
tried again with 4.3 and back to the same antics with it.
I have however reflashed a modified 4.3 with super user root and recovery built in and can say ive had no problems appart from occasional excessive battery drain from the kernel, a reboot usual fixes it.
Could it be the UK ftf that's more.buggy? I'm using Nordic and no issues on my end

Some basic ROM feedback + MODs suggestion (D802)

I have been jumping between a few ROMs for a period of time now and finally decided to stick with one which I think is stable, fast and gives the best battery life by far. I admit I haven't tried all of the ROMs out there, also people have different set ups and use their phone differently. So please take what I say as a recommendation only, and I mainly wish to share some of my experience as I know how frustrating it can be to choose a ROM out of so many choices. At the end I also want to share the MODs I have been using and how I have personalized my device, hopefully will help someone out there.
Note: I didn't use the same MOD for all ROMs! See more explanation below.
ROM
Just to make it clear, I wipe all before flashing a new ROM. I don't use any kind of backup software, yes that is right I don't, call me insane But the result of poor battery life or restart/FC should not be caused by these factors. I also install about the same app back (give a take a couple which I don't use often) after a flash. I also use the same set up for all my ROMs e.g. Auto brightness, screen on time and etc.
STOCK
I have been on stock LG G2 ROM for about 5 months I think, there are some nice features and I have to say it is probably the most stable ROM out there.
But for me, I experienced a bit of lag here and there.
I think many out there will agree with me, when I say the ROM doesn't have the best UI design. I would recommend installing Xposed Installer (xda) and G2 Xposed (play store) and make some modifications yourself.
The battery is ok, last a day for me and ends up with 30% on a good day (often below 15%).
The biggest feature for me is the knock code to unlock device, I do miss it.
I didn't compare but the Camera app is better than Google Camera (opinion, didn't test).
CloudyG3 v1.3
Used this ROM for about a month, stable enough for daily driver.
Some lags when using the phone in general. Animation slow down is the main reason I decided to go with another ROM.
UI looks much nicer than G2 since it is based on G3.
Can use G3 TweaksBox to tweak UI like you can with G2 Xposed, but most features will require you to pay. Which I did, but don't think it is worth the money. Most changes require you to reboot to see effect and it is buggy.
Again knock code is a plus, better than stock ROM I think.
Slightly better battery than Stock but not much better, I would say about the same. Been using the same MODs since.
Camera is also pretty good, on par with STOCK (opinion, didn't test).
Mahdi-ROM 09/20
This is a very popular recommendation, rated the most stable ROM. But it is the opposite for me, phone would restart and FC.
Some bugs listed on ROM page. This doesn't affect me, but may affect some of you.
Very similar to CM11, a lot of options to tweak, too much in my opinion.
Battery life about same as stock, again the ROM wasn't stable enough for me so can't possibly have amazing battery life. Same MODs as I have now.
No knock code.
ParanoidAndroid 06/28
This is my current ROM, glad I decided to try it.
Very stable, haven't had a single FC or restart yet and I have been on it for weeks.
This is the fastest ROM, I don't notice any animation slow down at all. Ok a few times with the keyboard I am using but pretty sure it is the keyboard app.
Amazing battery life. e.g. 10 hours since unplugged, 2 hour screen on, 76% left.
Has double tab to wake, but no Knock code
Good amount of built-in customization
MODs + app suggestions
Twilight app (or something similar), for less harsh light on the eye when reading at night.
Google Now Launcher + Xposed GEL Settings, I like the Google Now being included in the launcher itself.
LiOn Tamer (AKA Unbounded) to stop wake-locks, just install and then done no set up require.
Silence app, which turns phone silent for those who work at from 9am - 5pm.
Calendar + Calendar Mute app which turn phone silent for those who are at University with odd lecture times.

Unfortunately I haven't tried all the ROMs, so can't give you any suggestion on them.
As for custom kernels and ART, I have been using whatever comes with the ROMs. The result on PA is so good (7.5 hours screen on time with 22% battery left), I never found myself in the situation of needing to tweak anything. Kernel is generally my last choice, because it is a lot of trial and error. The last I tried ART was when it was still in beta, I should really give it a go now it is more stable.
Can you provide a link to the 26/8 PA rom? Can't seem to find it in the PA thread cos there are only other dated roms. Sorry for being a noob cos I've never flashed aosp on my g2. Or which release did you use or would recommend?
Dont you miss the Qslide apps on stock roms? or the Qremote? (I use it all the time)
and thanks for sharing the expirience... I myself decided only to root the phone in the case that it won't be getting Android 5.0

I tried Qslide on stock, then never used it again. For me spliting the screen in half means i can't see much of anything. I think it might be useful when you get used to it, but I never really got used to it.

Hmmm I see what you mean, I was unable to find the ROM through PA thread. I have uploaded the version i got, here's the link
I've tried all above except paranoid (and CM11)
I think it should be mentioned that photos quality on mahdi rom are horrible.
I tried other camera applications but the bad quality remained.
Is PA or CM11 like mahdi (camera quality)?

Unfortunately the camera on PA is also pretty disappointing, in my experience anything that is not based on stock ROMs has bad camera experience.

I tried, pa, mahdi, plain.. All three gave some strange issue or reboot. I have been totally unlucky with asop roms in this phone. I had better experience with others, like nexus, s2 or note 2.

Thanks man. I did try it. After restoring sms, the Android. process message kept popping up, and reinstalling from beginning was a bit too lazy by my side. There is a cm version based on stock kernel which looks promising for what I am looking for, so I am keeping an eye on this CM version. Thanks again.

Nice write up! I used Mahdi, PA and CloudyG3 and agree with your comments. I'm currently running cloudyg3 and would like to add a few notes to those who are interested. Disabling all the animations does speed things up for me and the dev made the G3 Tweakbox features all free. PA is my second favorite ROM, super smooth and stable. If camera was better on PA, it would be my daily driver.

Wish I downloaded it before the link died, but people commented saying they are unstable so I didn't download it. But I think it should be released today (3rd Nov) on the PA thread.

I'm really interested in trying the G3 rom. I've been using stock on this phone since I got it and I really love the built in features and stability. I've come from a long line of Nexus ownership and have a Nexus 7 2013 for AOSP support + latest updates.
I was really worried about the stability of the G3 port but feel a little more confident reading your review compared to other roms. Paranoid Android was always fun too, I just never tried it on my G2.

Yeah G3 Rom are very stable only some hiccups when you have too many apps open, apart from that everything is pretty good. Camera is normally the main selling point for most
Also I think going from stock -> G3 ROMs -> AOSP is a pretty good way going about it.

Well is I've experienced, it is way more smoother than v20A was, that was too buggy, but this one seems to work nice.
I'm currently building & testing Purified Stock v2.0 based on this.

Soon as I could solve the root problem, maybe even today, maybe only next week after wednesday, I'm about to have a busy week. The last option is next weekend, but I don't want to wait that much

I'm doing this myself now, doing deodexing now and soon will be trying out it, as you are saying, "purified".
Please inform us as you continue to test it, I'm looking forward to upgrading my phone.
I'm currently running Amiga's ROM V3.

Be sure to put it on 3GQCT and DIAG, and also enable USB Debugging on your phone.
Then choose the firmware and press Launch software update.
Testing the ROM now, seems waaaay smoother then the V20A.

I still hate LG launcher. It's laggy as s**t.
And there isn't much of a performance improvement, sadly.
i will try later thanks!
Well, after all, it is a huge improvement over V20A firmware. I kind of starting to love it, though I miss my language.
Mine was sluggish because many system files got corrupted when tranfering from one PC to another and deodexing screwed it up even more. Play Store didn't work, Play Services was crashing whole time, and many apps didn't work as they should.
Now I've redone everything, extracted system files, putted my newest kernel, added init.d support, but left odexed, because I don't play with Xposed at all and, in my opinion, odexed ROM is faster ROM
And what do you know - it's snappiness is now on par with Jelly Bean and CyanogenMod. Some apps got updated, notification bar now works miles better (in V20A it was way too laggy, though extensive tweaking reduced lag a little bit), lockscreen is also buttery smooth now. LG Launcher is still kind of poor, version in Jelly Bean is better choice.
And while it's branded ROM, there is a lot of bloatware, which really annoys and eats RAM.
That's all what I've gathered from an hour of usage.
anyone got v20c via ota? or it has been released only for spain...
v20a is laggy as hell.. hope this will be better...

There is, though I don't know, when it will go online, because it would take ages to upload the ROM.
I'll see, what I can do.
Is it compatible for us p713?

Anyone tried the LED on this ROM? Not just the basic options (Missed calls, mails, SMS), but also other apps (like Whatsapp).
I currently have the AmigaKitKat ROM, which I'm very pleased with. However the LED problem drives me insane.

I still have the same issue regarding LED (yellow light for no reason).
I guess I'll just use older drivers in my newer kernel build.

If I recall, the yellow light for no reason was something that happened if you set up charging LED. What interests me is whether LED control apps like Light Manager or Light Flow work now (when all LED options are unset except for the external apps one).

Advice please. I'm wanting opinions on what's my best options

Ok first off, I'm a noob to the g900t.
I have been on the att varient for some time.. been upset about no root on 5.0 bit the bullet and moved on
So no I got this great deal today. I got a used tmobile s5. I unlocked it and it has been rooted. It's running 4.4.2 stock.
I'm wondering what is my best options.
Should I install a custom recovery like TWRP or cwm?
Should I stay at kitkat or move on to lolipop. I didn't like lolipop on the att s5.. but for me to like it, I would have to tear into it with exposed pretty good.
I know asop doesn't seem to be the best option because nothing ever works right. I loved cm on my nook hd tho.
I'm looking for a custom rom perhaps that has good performance. Good battery and retains the features like camera being good and such.
Maybe stock debloat ed is my best bet.. who knows..
What do u guys think?
What route should I take?

LP update is trash on are device taking away excellent S5 performance.
I think Sammy aka SamApple is pushing sad S5 LP so we will upgrade to crappy S6.
Thank goodness for Odin - tar. & root
Anyway my recommendation.
First off Device is used so buy new battery. B&H Photo sells Official S5 battery for 23,00 which is great deal just picked one up..
Odin KitKat NK2 , Root device , Install TWRP , Make backup & Install Titanium back & freezzz the bloat.
From there you will be mint.
My S5 is 14 months old did the above couple days ago.
Result:
Screen on time & device sleep is like the good old days
2hr 40min off charger with GPS,LTE etc enabled - 40 min screen on time browsing web - emails - texting = 10% battery used
Its running so smooth I purchased new Spigen Tough Armor Case for it today lol .
.
Some numbers running NK2 with new battery.
Device
Display setting 70% , LTE signal 3 - 5 bars & GPS enabled.
Apps running in background:
Weather Underground 4hr refresh.
Rain Alarm Pro 30min refresh.
Twitter Push
Periscope push
Gmail Push 2 accounts
Activity
Gmail , Twitter , Texting , Phone calls , Internet browsing ,checking weather , Tunein radio , John Legere periscope session , some Youtube etc.....basically everyday moderate use.
My Results
Full battery last night , played a bit , let device sleep overnight , moderate use today,
Battery seems to be pretty strong. I was not digging the god awful touchwiz lolipop. Kitkat was OK. When I got the phone it was running kitkat and the NE6 firmware modem kernal ect..
I odined the stock OB1 complete package. Tried lolipop a few days and wasn't impressed. Performance was good. Ui horrible.
Prefered the kitmat darker ui.
And with kitkat I could at least xposed some of the horrible touchwiz crap.
Fact is tho.. I'm a toggle man. I want to toggle everything. Mobile data, lte, ect.
I have always been a fan of CM. I personally like the asop feel. I was going to give touchwiz a shot... It failed me so I am going to see how this latest build of cm12.1 does for me.
So far no noticeable problems but will have to cycle it a few times to see how battery life goes.
And honestly. I'm not really missing any of the features. Camera is good.. Even without 4k.
I kinda wish fingerprint scanner would work but other then that I'm not missing anything else. Fair trade off for having more control and a good ui.
I'll let u know how it goes. If it sucks I'll go back and try ur suggestion.
Right now I'm just wondering if the ob1 modem I'm using is the best option for the 5.1.1 based cm12.1... I may try updating it to the one for 5.1 T-Mobile released.
I attached a photo to this post of my toggles. In notification quick settings.. If I could get that in TW.. all would be wonderful lol
Antutu score was 47000 right after install with no mods or overclock . stock ob1 was 45000 after a lot of app freezing and tweaks.
