Hi guys,
I've been using my phone for almost 2 years now, and almost 1 year 364 days have passed since I rooted it
Anyways, it has been acting weird lately. All white backgrounds are marked with black lines, the screen starts fluttering at the simplest functions like dialer, it won't turn the screen on once it's locked. And apps don't install. I've been able to recover most of the data from it.
I can tell that it's not a software problem since I've factory resetted it a number of times and tried flashing 5 different ROMs.
It would be nice if I could know what part of its hardware is damaged so I can get it replaced.
Thanks!
It's either the motherboard or the screen assembly, or both.
To be frank there isn't much to repair on these phones unless the problem is confined to minor components like the camera etc.

I have this problem with my Hero for a couple of months already. My lowest part of the screen doesn't react - basically you must press at least 10 times on "Phone" to get it started, and with the the first row of icons, let's say Gmail, it's the same. Also, the home-screen is flipping left and right whenever it wants and however it wants, basically it means that when I leave the phone with it's home-screen unlocked, it starts scrolling back and forth by itself. I sent the phone 3 times to the operator's service, and every time they are replacing the screen unit with a new one. Then it behaves OK for 3-4 days and then it starts again! Has anyone had the same problem too? Is there any software bug fix?
It's a know issue with Hero screens. The glue between the digitzer and screen heats up so they become loose and unresponsive.
It's a hardware issue, send to your operator or you can fix it yourself. Instructions are on this forum somewhere.
Today I had a call from my provider's call center - a charming female voice announced me that my device will be replaced with a new one. What a wonderful news for the end of the day
Any help much appreciated....I have an issue with my screen flickering, dimming very faint and going black when i touch my screen. sometimes my screen will go black for long periods of time and phone is practically useless. This is not an issue of just a slight flicker on light colored screens that I have read other people describe. The screen does not always do this but is definitely getting more frequent. The flickering/dimming happens when I touch screen and especially when I touch it with more pressure. It also seems to be more sensitive on the bottom half of the screen.
I consider myself as the "scientific type" and have been testing many different scenarios trying to find a rhyme or reason to this happening. The only thing I have found is that if I keep my phone out of my pocket the problem seem to not happen. Then I can put my phone in my pocket for as little as 5 minutes and my screen could be messed up for hours. Everything else about phone seems to work great.
At first I was thinking this was a software issue but now I am leaning towards hardware? I am rooted, unlocked with s-on and cannot send back for warranty. I was running mean Rom for many versions and have also gone back to stock rom and stock kernel and experience same problem. Many reboots and clean installs too. I have also taken phone apart and reconnected all ribbon cables hoping there was a bad connection.
My Evo lte is only 4 months old and has never been dropped nor has it ever been wet. There are no scratches on screen and has been in otter box since the phone was brand new. I am running out of ideas and am I dire need for advice.
Thanks,
Mike

As there is very little info known about this phenomena I will try to explain it. I learned a lot of disassembly guides and by visualizing it (settings-development-show touches)
Ghost touch is a strange phenomena of various types and is due to a hardware fault between the mainboard connector and digitizer screen, I'm therefore trying to clarify it by categorizing them in three groups:
1. Small; Screen is unresponsive. 1 lock/unlock and it works again. Almost perfect. No need to replace screen. Most common.
2. Large; Same as 1, and often up to 5 touches and the touches are often moving/pressing parts of the screen. This can become a very frustrating period. Messaging apps and settings can be messed up by these touches. Often a lock/unlock will fix this temporary. A full screen replacement is recommended
3. Unworkable; Same as 2, and the lower and upper part are not working anymore. Notfications bar can not be pulled down anymore, typing become a nuisance and it not possible anymore and you curse your phone. Also it is not even possible to insert your pin, unlock your phone etcetera. This problem will not be fixed by a restart/reset or lock/unlock. A full screen replacement is essential.
Many people say this can be fixed by software settings, however this is a hardware fault. I tried many different roms and I encountered at all of them. The only fix that can be done to fix this is replacing of the full screen as it is not possible to apply/remove your digitizer.
For a long time I thought it was due to the degrading digitizer or something, in fact it is probably the connection between the and the mainboard. The screen has two digitizers: One for the touchscreen and one for the home/settings/back/search buttons. For some reason this last one did not cause any trouble. The first one has a flex cable from the upper part of the screen leading toward a small hole and heading to the mainboard. The problem will probably reside in the part between the digitizer and the small hole. Here, just above the screen, the flex cable is folded 180 degrees. This fold will cause the problem as it is very sensitive. Mine has a very small damaged part, the copper parts are visible. The cause of this is due to the rubbing of the bezel just under the speaker.
How to fix it?
Buy a new screen including digitizer (often HTC & Sprint branded) and make sure you protect this part as much as you can.
EDIT:
I re-inserted my old LCD display with a bit of tape around the damaged part. Since then I haven't had any ghost touches.
Mine was ghost touching so bad it was completely unusable for a few days. I was thiiiiiiis close to buying a new phone, then one day it just stopped and hasn't done it again since. Very strange. Anyhow, I will be replacing it with an s4 when the price comes down to $100 for us SERO users.
Ghost touch
Nice explanation, and nice 3 lvl sorting but, tell me one thing... I have experience with lvl 1 and 2 (two different phones) and for both of them simple ROM change / reinstall helped to solve this problem.
For ex. I had JB [ROOTBOX] ROM since the last week.. ghost touch problems were getting worse and worse with each new day yet lock/unlock still worked quite well.
I decided to test new JB MIUI ROM and like a magic touch my ghost friend is gone since than, but I am afraid he will return more powerfull than ever... oops that is a different story. However my phone is now working fine ... no ghosts detected.
So please don't tell me that this problem is only mechanical problem ( due to ROM change / reinstall worked multiple times). Actually I am pretty sure that is software problem which is supported by hardware hitches.
My friends "ghost story" is pretty similar.. but he reinstalled back original ICS ROM.
PS: I don't want to start flame war with this reply. It is just mix of my experience and opinions.
Something strange is happening last 3 weeks. Every time i turn off, than on my phone, touch is not working, all buttons are forking(including digitizer). When that happens, I need to turn it on and off again, and then it works
What that could be ? I tried flashing another roms, but problem is there again. I switch batteries a lot, and that is very annoying.
If you've experienced this on different roms, than it a hardware problem. I can only guess here but it could be a loose display connector or the display/digitizer showing it's age.
As far as I see - have three options here - get the phone repaired / get used to this glitch or get a new device.

Hey guys!
I have a GT-i9300 for about 2 years now. Long story short - last year I bought a liquid air refreshener for my car which leaked out and without noticing it I just threw my phone in it and later on reallised what had actually happend. So fast forward 1 year later, the phone is till working though not fully. The lower part of the screen turned green, about 3-4 cm has a gree hue on top of the content( if it turns on actually, sometimes it does not turn on ). When I turn the brightness higher it gets a bit better, still not fully. The touch functions absolutely normal.
So I opened it and checked the motherboard, it looks weird and has a few small "bumps" arround the chips . I tried removing them but it didn't help ( it might be just some sillicon, I don't know ). So I was thinking would replacing the motherboard help? I found one that is from exactly the same model and has the same memory size, could that help me with the display?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your motherboard may not the problem here. I would suspect the lcd. You would need to replace the lcd, digitizer and glass combo.
