Hey guys,
I've been running CM11 for a while now, and I was curious to see how I could be able to OC my p769. I know there's a CM11 variant made by AntonX that supports OC; however, my phone freezes and crashes whenever I tried doing so. Same thing happened with CarbonRom, as well. To overclock the phone, does that mean I'd have to mess around with the kernel? So far, it's very different from overclocking with stock jellybean (script, then typing a command in terminal emulator). I'm relatively noobish, but I learn fast and any links that could guide me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hello people
I'm New to Android and I've been busy with rooting my phone and installing custom roms and things like that.
But now I'm trying to overclock my phones CPU. but the governors are not letting me go above 600Mhz and I've given the Setcpu app which I'm using root access but it's not working.
Dose anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
My phone is the LG Optimus T by the way
EDITED bit: Ok I see I need a custom kernel, dose anyone have a recommendations for custom kernels for my phone ^^ and can you post me a link please
You have to use a custom kernel that allows frequencies higher than 600MHz. There are a number to choose from (check dev subforum).
Thanks I'll look into it and I'll let you know if I'm having problems.
Hello everyone!
I have a simple question that I would like to have answered. I'm adept at running custom ROMS on my GTAB, but I've never really messed with kernel stuff before.
There isn't exactly a 'topic' that deals with this, and pershoots website doesn't have that much detail either.
So I would like to know what kernel would be the best for me to run.
I've got VEGAn-Tab GingerEdition running and I just installed pershoots 2.6.32.39-cyanogenmod and it should be the ginger edition
Is this the right kernel or should I be running another?
Thanks
There are basically two kernels that are being actively supported on XDA, pershoot's and clemsyn's (clemsyn has several kernels out, but they're all just slight variations on the same kernel). If you want to overclock above 1.4GHz and/or adjust the voltage settings, then you should try clemsyn's. If not, then stick with pershoot's. It's what I use. It's what most of the devs on here include with their ROMs. For me, it seems to run better with less work. But try them both out for yourself and see what you like better. That's the only way you can really know if you're running the "right" kernel.
Also, pershoot just updated his kernel to 3.6.32.40, if you want the latest version.
Froyo use clemsyn. Gb use pershoot. Jmho...
Hey Thanks! This stuff gets quite confusing.
Another question here. I have installed Roms but how do we install a Kernel? Do we install prior to the Rom?
Thanks in advance
I've tested out every version.
1- froyo -->clemsy
2- ginger --> pershoot
3- flash kernel as you would with any other zip file. Do not use calk wipe all zip.
Hello all!
I'm a newbie who wants to know some more about ROMs and Kernels.
Here's the thing:
I have the awesome galaxy s2 and I definately want to flash Lite'ning ROM 1.5.
I also read about an easy overclock kernel here (using SetCPU app):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075061
1. Now, what I do not yet understand is: if I flash the necessary OC kernel, will this interfere with the Lite'ning ROM (which has the KF2 kernel)?
2. If so, is there another way to do an easy overclock on the Lite'ning ROM?
I'm looking for CPU speeds of about 1.4 to 1.5 Ghz, just to get that little bit of extra performance.
I also looked at the Tegrak OC, but I don't think I know enough to mess with the voltages... Or how to even do that
3. So, how do ROMs and Kernels work (in short)? Can I flash any Kernel on any ROM?
4. And can you install multiple Kernels working next to eachother? Or will some Kernels interfere with eachother?
I searched the forums for good explanations, but thusfar haven't found any.
Sorry for being a noob! I'm really trying to read up, but it's more difficult than I had expected.
Some Noob-Proof explanation would be much appreciated!
Numbered the questions I have at the moment
Thank you!
I cant answer all your questions but i'll do my best
2) have a look at tekrak overclock and this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14973796&postcount=531 the first part is about undervolting which is great and the last section is about what voltage to overclock your galaxy s2 at
Basically, the voltage is how much energy your battery puts through the system, including gpu and cpu, so if you overclock you need more energy and dont worry about crashing, it just reboots and asks you if you want the previous settings and you say no (write down your previous settings though) and then lower the voltage and try again and so on
3) roms are basically modified versions of android and kernels can be flashed on most roms, im not sure about the official ones
Thats all i know about so i hope it helped you
PM me if you want some help with undervolting or overclocking, i dont tend to overclock as i dont see the point, my phones already so fast
Thank you!
That Naphtaline guide about voltages seems really helpful
I do need the Tegrak Ultimate app to set all the voltages right?
The free one doesn't seem to include that.
I'll have a look into it anyway.
And I recall that I do not need to flash another kernel if I use this Tegrak OC right?
Almost sure I read that somewhere in the Lite'ning ROM thread.
Appreciate the help!
I think the free one includes voltages just no settings for the gpu, but i could be wrong
Not sure about the Tegrak kernel, but no harm in it
No problem, just pm me if anything goes wrong or you have some questions
yeah that Naphtaline guide is just classy keep up the gud work guyz
Hey guys, I actually wanted to post my question in the thread of my custom rom, but this forum doesn't let me. I have Android Revolution HD 6,2 installed, and the Kernel Elite Kernel OXP, and my phone is running so slowly all the time... are the both versions not working together, or did I do something wrong during the installation process? (I did a full wipe before flashing the both.
Greetings,

I would recomend that you install the kernel for Android Revolution and see if it works better. From what I have read about the Elite kernel it looks like it is in alpha testing at best right now.
Try Supercharging.

Ok. Install CPU Spy and post the stats here so that we can analyse. Most probably your phone is not running at 1.3GHz or 1.6GHz. With power saving turned on, it should run at 1.3GHz. With power saving off, it should run at 1.6GHz at ALL TIMES. If this does not happen, then, your kernel has been flashed with the incorrect values and is causing an underclock, which will result in a very very slow HOX+. My advice is to not flash any kernels once this issue has come to light as incorrect kernel values over and over again, may result in the core being forced to incorrect speeds and malfunction. The HOX+ was decided to run smoothly at speeds above 1.2GHz, anything lower then that may cause undesirable outcomes. Remember, every HOX+ is unique. No phone is the same.
Hey everyone,
I'm looking at flashing my first AOSP ROM and I was looking at LiquidSmooth which seems to be pretty stable at the moment and looks to be like what I'm looking for. I had a question about the overclocking features. Does LiquidSmooth OC out of the box? I'm looking to preserve my phone for as long as possible, so I'd like to avoid that if I can. Just want to make sure it's relatively safe.
Thanks.

From what I understand, LS 2.9 comes packaged with a stock CM kernel and it is not able to be OC'd.
