Note 2, Sophisticated, Tethering (not working) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

A while back I used Adam Outler's Casual method to root my phone to Stock. I don't mind stock and root mostly for the Tethering. Then when the 4.3 OTA was pushed I used BeansTown106 method to stay rooted and such. It has been working for a year now... until about 2 weeks ago, my tethering stopped working..
Was something just pushed/fixed by Verizon? I just want the tethering to work. The odd thing is, I checked and still have root. Oh, BTW, I am running Sophisticated 3 ROM. I am willing to change if necessary.
Please help! Thanks

I use the xposed module xtether

Xposed Framework?
Thanks for the reply. I looked into the module you mentioned. The first step was, "Be rooted and have the Xposed framework installed".
With me having Sophisticated 3 installed, would this be an issue? Is there a guide on how to install Xposed for the Note 2?
Thanks

Hmm. not sure about that one. I'm new to the phone myself. Are you sure you are on 4.4.3?
N/m my bootloader is locked but I guess yours isn't.

good you dont need ghettoroot
you just run the installer.
then open the app and click framework.
click install and let it reboot when finished.
now go back into the xposed app in your app drawer.
click download
click the magnifying glass and search for xtether
in the xposed app go to modules
check the xtether box to activate it
reboot one last time
now start wifi tether

Problem Solved
Upon installing the Xposed, I found that "Media" was taking up all my battery and processing power. After I cleared all apps and deleted all files that I might have been corrupt... the tethering started working again. I was very odd but it's working again. I hope this might help someone else as well.
Thanks urphonesux for all your help!

[Q] Guys I need help

I just got my Samsung Galaxy mega 2 sm-g750a and I can't find any info on rooting it I'm running ubuntu 14.04 on my desktop so any info or links will help thanks
I also got the same model sm-g750a. Locked bootloader and no one else on xda has one. Laugh.
I think we would have to use a safestrap method or something. But without having a rooted room to load with safestrap I don't think it will do is any good.
I like the size of this phone to fit my packet in my carpenter jeans better then the Mega 6.3.
the only fix I know right now, that I will like, is to buy a sm-g750f that has a unlocked bootloader. I may not get 4g data but 3g is fine as long as I can get root and have unlocked bootloader. Buying a sm-g750f version $300 then selling my sm-g750a version $250 I wI'll be out $50 bucks, no big deal.
Nobody on here will help
I've tried and try to get help but everyone is to good on here I think I'm going to look at other sites
Got it just now
I just now used KingRoot-4.0.0.233.apk just now on my sm-g750 [email protected] phone and I now have root also. I searched fo kingRoot-4.0.0.233.apk the first result showed something about king root on fire something phone. A little way down the thread I found the download. No computer I am sitting here at work I ran it and now have root. I searched for weeks to root this phone.
It worked
So it worked no pc

Just to be clear. No pc needed. It does work on Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 sm-750a the AT&T version that has the locked bootloader baseband and build number ending in ANL1 android version 4.4.4 . I have been searching for 2 weeks and was ready to trade in my phone. But now that I have root I am keeping it. I love xda and I am glad I could finally help someone and myself too.

What baseband/build number are you on. Are you on 4.4.4?
I am on build NL1 with android 4.4.4 .
Also have you ever accepted the security policy update?
My phone was always asking me to update the security policy and I kept saying no.
I couldn't disable the nag until yesterday when I finally got root.
I now have all updates disabled thanks to titanium backup, that only now works since I now have root.
I wonder if the difference is that you may have accepted the security policy update.
It worked right away "about 3 minutes" on my mega 2 on 4.4.4 kit kat.
I tried it on my daughter's s4 that she updated to 5.0 before I had a chance to root it with towel root. It failed to root her 5.0 lollipop.
I guess this is for kit Kat but not lollipop.
I'm running
I'm on 4.4.4
Build number KTU
Yes I took the security update but I unistalled it let me try again
No luck
That still didn't work I'm about to give up on this phone

Here is what you can do now that you have root, go to the link below for the things I have done so far.
Add Titanium Backup to remove Bloatware.
Freeze system updates so they don't take away or root later.
Add hotspot to share your phones Internet with other devices for free.
I just wrote this new thread/post, so we can get others together to continue with more development on our currently unsupported Galaxy Mega 2.

You don't have to have service to root and device. However you to need service to use the data for the wifi tethering. I'm on the OTA OC5 and rooted with wifi tethering >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159 <<< This is a link that will turn on the tethering function.

You would use Odin to flash and custom recovery(TWRP or Phils') if you have not already done so. Then you would use the custom recovery to flash a SU(Super user/Root) zip file and you would have a rooted device.
You don't need to use the 3.18 version of the app but you misread, "AT&T and T-Mobile Hotspot testing live(use v3.1.8 and report any issues please)", the dev just wants feedback from users on those carriers.

No, I don't think you understand. You use Odin to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device or a stock image, bootloader, etc. Then you use the custom recovery to flash a ROM that is rooted or flash a SU zip that has the binaries and or some other goodies for root. However, this does require you to read, a lot, since there are several different version and updates for this phone. The link that has been provided is a download for an app that you would install after you have root, but before you tried to do any of this you should have read and read some more until you understood what you were doing. From the post that you have been placing in this thread you have not read any of the links I have and others have provided and don't know what steps you were trying to do, so I not sure if I can help.
The best thing to do is to use odin and flash a stock tar, but you have to read, read, read. You need to know what firmware version you had before doing this, if not you can mess the phone up bad.
I use "WiFi Tether Router". It's in the app store and it works great for me.

Verizon S4 with 5.01
I tried previously when I had 4.4.2 loaded and it failed. So I gave up until I read this thread and voila! it worked! just rooted 2 phones using kingroot 4.1.
Well, it looks like The people at Kingroot have managed to root this.
I can confirm as well. I'm on a Verizon S4 Lollipop and Kingroot ver 4.0.703 was able to root my phone without even having to use a PC. The app said my ICH-I545 was unsupported but like everyone says just hit the Root button anyway & it still works!
I dunno if therea any malicious code tho..
I found a site to download Kingroot faster and easier without all the confusing ads. Just be sure to download the latest version. http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application
Well it seemed to work for me, but now my phone is stuck in a reboot loop after trying to replace KingRoot with SuperSU. The phone boots, shows the lockscreen and works for about 30 seconds, then whatever app is running closes, then the System UI seems to crash and the phone reboots. Factory reset / safe mode don't seem to help.
I found a factory image and have consilidated the links here, if it helps anyone.
Wow...congrats to all the OTA takers!

Yesterday I tried the Kingroot app. I downloaded and installed it over my already-rooted Galaxy S4 ( I had been having wifi / internet connection issues since installing a rooted lollipop). When done, I ran their Purify app. After a few reboots that threw it into a boot loop and a battery pull (which seemed to stop the boot loop and allowed it to boot normally) everything seems to work perfectly and my WiFi/Internet connection is solved... phone is much faster too.
I did notice their purity app automatically kills almost everything running in the background. I use the Automateit app heavily, and it took me a little bit to figure out how to set Purity not to kill certain apps that were running in the background.

Help with xposed for G530T

Ya trap kernel comes with root, and you need that root method to install the rom, cause the rom needs the kernel from the root method. And the xposed framework needs that rom to work .

Ya trap kernel comes with root, and you need that root method to install the rom, cause the rom needs the kernel from the root method. And the xposed framework needs that rom to work .

Did all of that and FlashFire Is still not opening. I went to stock rom, I deleted the old ROM. Can't I just flash it through my PC?

Pokemon Go - not compatible with my phone

Hi,
I dont think that my LG-G3(LG-D852) was rooted/unrooted correctly and I am not able to connect to pokemon go. My phone has been rooted for a while with no problems. Yesterday I attempted to unroot my phone and was left with a few problems. My play store was not connecting, my browser did were having DNS errors and my pokemon go was not connecting. I followed intsructions on editing the root/etc/hosts file and fixed two of my problems. Trying to log in to pokemon go gives me a message saying it is not compatible with my phone. I used Root Checker and it said "Sorry! Root access is not properly installed on this device". How can I unroot everything properly to get pokemon go to connect again?
Thank you!
The newest update of Pokemon Go basically banned anyone from playing if they have a rooted phone.
Here's a fix so that way you can still play while keeping your phone rooted:

What about emulators?

Thanks for the suggestion. I would rather not re-root my phone and install/setup a root cloak unless I need to. Some comments from your link are saying that it does not work anyways.
I used "terminal emulator" and it said su is not found so I think that my phone is unrooted? Why does pokemon still think my phone is rooted?
You'll have to reload the original firmware.

I just finished trying Rootcloak and it didn't work. So now I'm looking for an alternative solution. I don't want to re-root my phone either.

I have CyanogenMod with a custom Rom and I am not using Magisk to turn on and off my root access every time I want to play the game. I'm pretty mad about this but I'm having a hard time finding a solution. Has anyone found anything useful?

1) The only reliable solution is to use Magisk.
2) Have you modified your system partition (installing Xposed or any other mods)?

Since CyanogenMod is a custom ROM, there won't be any support for it.

Is this as of 0.37.x? Because I and many others have had no issues with emulators prior to 0.37.x
When i said what about emulators - i meant, are there any emulators out there at the moment that are compatible with magisk?

No. They started to ban users that spoofing GPS and using emulator since days ago, then followed by blocking rooted (and system-modified) users from entering the game since 0.37.0.
Even if it's compatible with Magisk, you'll be banned because you're not using a real device to play.
