My phone was originally on android 4.1.2. I installed a 4.4.2 CWM and backup up my data, and then installed a 4.4.2 rom. If i want to restore the backup, can i just do it using the CWM i already have installed (for android 4.4.2)? Or do i need to install a 4.1.2 CWM first? (I am using a LG p769)

Hi,
I am new to CWM-based Recovery.
I have CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7 (is it any different from CWM?), Stock rooted via Kernel, Android 4.0.3, Baseband version I9100XXLPS, Kernel version 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913, Build IML74K.XWLP7, English.
I would lke to take a complete backup, possibly back up selected apps with Titanium Backup.
Then I would like to wipe out cache & data.
Then install a stock & rooted 4.2.2 (I am not sure if it's out already). Or some other options?
Pros, can you advice how to do it safely? I haven't followed the trends for a while, I was using a USB cable to upgrade/flash...
Thanks!
J.

Just backing up using cwm would backup almost everything including all your apps (except the android folder on sdcard which is required by certain apps like most of the games which store data in the data and obb subfolders), there's currently no stock 4.2.2 for i9100 but you can have custom roms like rootbox for that, cwm and cwm based recovery is the one and the same, just follow the instructions given in the thread of the rom you select (basic stuff).

So I'm running Cwm version 5.8.1.5 and on stock rom. Now I want to put a custom kitkat rom . so for that, do I need to upgrade my cwm to 6.0.4.5?If so then how do I do it( wanna confirm)?
And just so that the process is streamlined, can anyone tell me the exact procedure before and after flashing the rom via CWM?

If you want back-up apps and data with titanium back-up.
Put all the files you need on your phone (CWM kitkat compatible, rom, gapps) reboot into recovery, nandroid back-up, flash the kitkat compatible CWM, reboot into recovery and follow the steps in the op of the rom you want to install.
is there any possibity to install cwm recovery to my device which is already rooted using framaroot? i want to have cwm for making a nandroid backup of my rom.
I'm currently using MIUI v5 (Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean) on my Galaxy S3 i9300...
Previously, I used Clockworkmod recovery to create a nandroid backup of Cyanogenmod 11. After I installed MIUI i flashed TWRP.
The problem is... It seems like i cant restore the backup i made of Cyanognenmod using CWM from TWRP recovery...
The window where I browse for the backup folder in TWRP is empty, both for internal and external memory.
How can I restore it?
Backups from twrp are pretty different from those made by cwm..
So you need to have cwm or more popular philz touch recovery..
With philz you can restore backups done from twrp also which have a different format and can only be restored by twrp

What do you mean 4.4.2 CWM? And yes, version of cwm doesn't mather, you can restore any cwm backup you made with any cwm recovery version.
