What should I do? It's been running for 15 minutes or so.

Probably a USB/fastboot connectivity issues.
Make sure the phone is booted normally.
Try to uninstall HTC Sync and drivers, and re-install.
Try a different USB cable and different USB port on your PC.

I had the same problem. I had to run RUU with compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) on my laptop with Windows 8.1 and it worked with my device on Fastboot USB.

[Q] How can I return my HTC Evo to Stock?

So I have run into a problem with my HTC Evo 4G LTE. I rooted a while back but I decided that I didn't really like the roms that would actually work, and so I tried doing an RUU to get back to stock. What ended up happening was that my phone is now S-ON but it says Unlocked and Tampered. but the custom recovery is still there so I can actually do updates to my phone. I have tried to re-root so I can try the RUU again but for some reason I can't get my phone to be recognized by fastboot or the adb. I don't know if its because I have incorrect drivers or what the issue is. Whenever I try to open ADB it just runs through a block of text and closes instantly, same for fastboot. I don't know anymore which instructions or methods to follow since I don't know what exactly the problem is. I've tried looking on here for issues like mine but I can't seem to figure it out. I just want to get my phone as close to stock as possible but I am seriously stuck right now and I need serious help. I would really appreciate it.

I've done that but I don't know what exactly it is I'm supposed to do once I do that. Like how do I get back to fully stock? Or should I be trying to re-root to RUU again? Moonshine doesn't recognize my device in fastboot usb, it says something like usb device not recognized because of a malfunction. I'm sorry for being clueless but I'm at a loss at what to do.

Uninstall everything HTC from your PC then reboot
Unplug your phone then install the latest drivers from HERE the ones dated 6/6/13
Plug phone in and let the drivers install
They might install while in bootloader and custom recovery also
then give moonshine another try
Should I only install the drivers or install HTC Sync as well?

So I uninstalled all the drivers and everything HTC and restarted. I then tried to install that driver from your link. It said the driver wasn't supported by my operating system which is Windows 8 64 bit and then finished installing. When I plugged in my phone it didn't seem like anything installed. The EVO is recognized by computer as a media device I guess. I switched the usb mode to mount as disk drive and it seemed to install a driver. Then I ran moonshine again but when it went into the bootloader, again it said the USB device was not recognized.

On your PC go to device manager and find your phone, right click and select properties
Select the driver tab
Select update driver
Select browse my comp
Let me pick
Look for ADB USB device or similar should be one of the first couple choices
Select MyHTC install and you should be good

Uninstall everything HTC (again). Download and install HTC Sync Manager. Once install is complete, uninstall only HTC Sync Manager. The latest HTC Drivers will remain installed. Put your device into fastboot mode, and connect to the PC. Drivers should install, and the bootloader should go from saying FASTBOOT to FASTBOOT USB.

I just tried this, plugged it in and it still says the message of USB device not recognized. I'm really not understanding what happened as to why the fastboot is just not recognizing the drivers. I also noticed the word fastboot in red changes to fastboot usb when I move the selection down from bootloader to any of the other options. Is it supposed to do that?

I think your issue may be with your computer. Do you have another computer you could try this on? I personally have never used windows 8, but it is always something that could be an issue.

Yes, when you're connected to your computer via fastboot it will say "Fastboot USB". Don't worry about the message on your computer-I get them all the time and I can still run commands via ADB & fastboot without any problems.

But in Moonshine when it loads fastboot it doesn't work, it just times out. It finds the device and restarts it, but after it gets into the bootloader it fails. That is what I'm trying to figure out.
When you connect in fastboot USB mode, what happens when you run the command "fastboot devices" (without quotations)?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE
Well being that I can't open fastboot like normal because it just flashes and closes, I open a command window inside my platform-tools folder. Then I do the command fastboot shell and it says <waiting for device> and nothing happens. If i open the window and type adb devices it shows my phone's serial number, but fastboot devices or fastboot shell, nothing happens

HTC Drivers for Windows 8.1

Are there any compatible fastboot drivers for Windows 8.1. Ever since I upgraded to 8.1 the device is not recognized in fastboot. It worked fine in Windows 8 but when I went to 8.1 it no longer would. I have tried numerous drivers to no avail. It connects fine normally to transfer files etc, just when it reboots in fastboot evice not found".

They work for me in 8.1, however, for some reason, fastboot will NOT work with any USB 3.0 port (with the blue color). Make sure you are connecting to a 2.0 port!
same issue, and i'm using usb 2.0. i'm also using original usb cable and have tried other cables as well.
i am to getting this problem is there any solution on this
I downloaded the latest HTC Sync which installed the drivers. I have no problem with Fastboot and my One. You can unintstall Sync afterwards.

And you're using Windows 8.1 right? I just tried that, did a system restore to before I had any drivers whatsoever installed...then installed the latest HTC Sync. The adb drivers work fine but as soon as I reboot into the bootloader I get the same USB enumeration error and fastboot doesn't work. I have no idea how to fix this, it's real frustrating.
Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Yes I am on 8.1 and have no issues.
I can confirm it was a USB 3.0 issue in my case. As soon as I found a regular USB 2.0 port all my Windows 8.1 woes went away.

Stuck in fastboot, won't show up on computer

After an hour or two of wondering why I couldn't get s-off on my phone, I realized that I was using a slightly outdated guide. Used Rumrunner instead of Moonshine, s-off acquired. I was trying to get my phone to be recognized as a Developer Edition, so I had to change the MID and CID. I was using a guide for changing the MID on here, but I guess silly me misread a step or something, and now here I am: the phone is stuck in fastboot mode. If I try to get into recovery it just flashes to the white HTC screen for less than a second and back into fastboot. Rebooting the bootloader just returns me to a black screen as if my phone were off.
When I plug my phone into my PC, I can here it dinging as if a device were plugged in, and when I go into Device Manager the port it's plugged into recognizes a device is there, but it says "Device failure enumeration" and gives me Code 43 (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems). Any attempt to access via fastboot (I've tried reflashing a recovery and clearing cache, as well as rebooting) simply returns <waiting for device>, and when running adb devices it returns that there aren't any devices attached (explains why fastboot commands aren't working).
Any ideas? Or is my phone gone forever?

Ah, that worked beautifully. Charged up my phone, reflashed TWRP, charging fully before I embark on any more travels and will proceed with extreme caution
Any particular reason as to why Windows 8.1 is giving me issues? I hadn't read anything about that in particular, so I'm very interested to know...

I don't think there are any drivers available for 8.1 as of yet.
Some folks have got it to recognize but it's hit or miss

That's really strange. I had the drivers working prior to this episode. I thought that the device suddenly being unrecognizable had something more to do with it.
Oh well. Today I learned.

So you used a PC with Windows 7 and it recognized the phone? I'm having the same issue where I can't even get the screen to turn on and win 8.1 no longer recognizes the phone being plugged in.

Windows 8.1 recognized my device in normal operation, but in any modified hboot failed miserably. (such that are used in conversions/etc)
I've long since reverted back to Win7 for anything involving Android....just so much less risky at this point.

Computer won't recognize while in Download mode only

Using Windows 10 x64 with drivers freshly installed
GT-I9001, Firmware 2.3, Factory reset performed and drivers unistalled/reinstalled
Been searching for hours on this and can't get it to work. Captivate will connect to computer normally and allow file transfers. But when I try to put in download mode, the computer won't recognize it. I get a popup window that says USB device not recognized.
I'm trying to restore back to complete stock because I'm having random shut downs and other misc issues. I was trying to us Odin to do it but it doesn't recognize the phone. So I powered up the phone, started Odin, then plugged the phone in...Odin sees the phone now but of course needs it in Download mode to work...so I get ADB and while the phone is connected, powered up, and recognized by Odin, I put it in download mode using "adb reboot download". The command put the phone into download mode but then Odin lost contact the the bubble appeared again saying it wasn't recognized.
I've completely removed all the samsung drivers, shut down computer, reinstalled all the drivers, shut down the computer, plugged the phone into the computer and watch to see that all drivers were installed correctly and the computer recognizes the phone...
So it all works EXCEPT while in download mode...any ideas?
I've tried different USB cords but don't have another computer to try on...
I would say you should try Samsung kies, let them install drivers. Then use download mode.
