I had this happened when i put lgflashtool on my laptop....
Works perfect!
I am on ZV6, I used the one click method (post #2 in the op link). Then i used flashify and downloaded the recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966096 and made a backup. Haven't gotten a chance to try a custom rom, but just wanted to share my results!
Great work to everyone who found this method! Was super easy and took about 5 minutes.

Confirmed where, and by whom, exactly? I've done this root method a dozen or more times so far in the past two weeks on several devices and not had one instance of any issues, there are no unwanted malware apps installed on said devices, no screwy services running that shouldn't be there or exist at all, and so on.
Looking over the lg_root.sh script offers nothing that can be installed on the device OR on Windows so that's a wash there too.
You sure your machine wasn't just basically pooched to begin with 'cause there's really nothing in this method that can screw up a Windows installation...
Can anyone confirm that this works for ZV8?
Yes it works... There is a one click method that does the same thing without the adb jargon to type in terminal.

no download mode?
I spent half a day trying "one button root" to no avil. I came across this thread. I followed the instructions, but when i power my phone down, hold "vol up" and plug in usb, all i get is the battery icon indicating its charging.
If i hold down "vol down" and power, i get get the recovery mode, but cannot get to this download mode. searches make is seem like im the only one with this issue.
Sprint ls990, completely stock, except debugging mode check in developer options.

I just got this in the mail today. Does anyone have any insights on how to unlock the bootloader and inject root? I had assumed 'fastboot' would work, but this has ODIN. I'm sure I could follow the steps on the original S4, but I don't know what the downstream effects will be.
Thanks!

Ok, just got done rooting my gs4 vzw dev edition. It was really pretty simple.
Steps from my win8 laptop were...
Install samsung drivers,
get adb working (android sdk doesn't seem to work on win8.. but just the adb files are all you need, google adb platform-tools or just use win7)
dl and push your superuser zip to the sdcard or external sdcard
dl odin 3.07 and extract to pc
dl and make tar.md5 of your favorite recovery. ( i personally like cwm )
Then all I did was... reboot phone in to odin mode... while phone is powered off, hold vol down + power
Start odin.exe
uncheck auto-reboot
click pda button, select the recovery file.md5
press start and let it finish, only takes a few secs...
once done.. reboot in to recovery, and flash the superuser.zip u pushed over to it.
Vol up + power to boot in to recovery. for me i just booted the phone normally... used "adb reboot recovery" then flashed superuser.zip.
reboot your phone and done.
good idea to make a backup while ur in recovery
If someone has hosting, i can send the files needed.

Okay, so I couldn't wait!
I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 and was able to gain root access.
I have yet to take the plunge on a custom recovery, but I'm sure I'll do that soon.
Additionally, the boot screen now has a picture of an "unlocked" lock, and the words "Samsung" "Custom". I guess they know that this has been flashed.
How did you order this prior to it being available on the Samsung Web site?

Help! I was using Carlos' unlocking the bootloader guide against my will, because I love stock. And turns out karma has gotten me. For some reason my recovery wasn't installing on V20B, so I flashed back to V20F, factory reset, re-rooted, installed busybox, flashed the artas recovery... And yet my recovery STILL isn't showing up. The boot animation is inverted and the touch screen is still "messed up." I have a backup on my external SD card that I can use if I somehow get recovery functional. It's just the stupid recovery won't work and I need it to work lol. Any help? Please?! By the way, I've done an emergency flash using LG Mobile Support Tool and that didn't work, so I'm still open to suggestions.
I've been very helpful to everyone who's asked me for help, I'd like for others to be the same to me. Thanks to whoever tries

First fix the touch screen, hold up I'll send you all the info,
Another thing, I hope you already have adb debugging enabled
Wait a min, you have everything you need if you tried to unlock your device
Inside the root lelus folder is the adb
You know, if you go to link for robert busybox on your pc (and sign in) it will send it to your phone, to download
1. Go to the root lelus folder (should be on your c: drive) and open the "stuff" folder
now, hold down the shift key and right click with your mouse, you should see an option, to "open command window here"
This should open a cmd up where the adb is at.
2. Open the cwm_ts_fix_p769.zip and go into the system folder and copy the v6.bin to your external sd
3.now type
adb devices (in the command window)
you should get a number with online status. If you don't it's because adb debugging is not enabled
4. next type
adb shell
su
your phone will ask to enable it, good luck on enabling on the wonky touch screen
okay, type
cat /storage/external_SD/v6.bin > /sys/devices/virtual/input/lge_touch/firmware
note if you put it on the internal storage, type
cat /sdcard/external_SD/v6.bin > /sys/devices/virtual/input/lge_touch/firmware
this will cause the shell to freeze.
so open up a new cmd (hold shift key & and right click inside the stuff folder) and type
adb reboot
hope this helps, if you need a better guide, lol just ask, it will take me awhile though

I took the OTA MJ7 4.3 update and then tried doing the M1I root technique and soft bricked my phone. I know some have tried that and others have just had issues where their phone won't boot after taking the OTA. I will share the steps I did that fixed my phone!
1. Place the update.zip from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502591) on an SD card. You may have to put it in another phone or into an SD card reader.
2. Press and hold volume up + home button for a couple of seconds
3. While still holding those buttons press and hold the power key until the phone vibrates, then release the power key only
4. Your phone should boot into Android System Recovery. Go to Apply update from external sd card.
5. Select update.zip and apply it
6. It will reboot your phone, it will still not boot properly. Remove the battery and follow steps 2-3 again.
7. This time, select Wipe data/factory reset.
8. Once complete reboot your phone, it will boot this time!
I'm so excited my S4 works again!! Hope this helps you guys!

The MI1 root method flashed a MI1 ROM, so if you are on MJ7, you create a soft brick by trying to root.

No there were some xda admins or w/e that said the links 2 this root arent allowed on XDA ne more. Not sure why... I used it and it worked perfectly. oh well. Sowwy
Moderator @Naddict posted this one post prior in that thread. Read up and learn about the risk you are exposing yourself to.
Be aware that as of this moment XDA has deemed the Kingo root method and Vroot method are not allowed on XDA. There are concerns with the information which is collected during the root method by the exploit. It is not about a continuous malware which may affect your device but about important information shared about your device, serial numbers etc during the root process which could be huge securities issues. You have all been warned.

How'd you get supersu to work and remove Chinese superuser?

Hey all, I got a Verizon Galaxy S4 16 gigs. I did the 4.3 OTA, then tried to go back to 4.2.2. I guess that soft bricked it. So do I have to use the MJ7 firmware to make my phone usable again? And if that works, is there any way to go back to 4.2.2? What do I do if it doesn't work?
Update: This worked beautifully, I'm now back to 4.3.
Hi guys - I've been an intermediate rooter / tinkerer since the (HTC) G1 days, so I'm feeling very noob right now.
i have a stock rooted vs985 (Verizon G3) on 12b with TWRP recovery. I'd found a link that said Cloudy G3 was working with this version, so i tried installing it, unfortunately in the aroma installer I think I selected the int'l variant. Now, all my phone does is go to recovery. I've tried flashing other roms, restoring back ups, wiping everything and doing the same, no luck. I can get to TWRP and download mode, but I don't have a viable computer option to go the way of LG Flash Tool or the like.
Any options I can use ON my phone via TWRP?

Hopefully someone else will correct this if I'm wrong, but without a computer, no - I don't think there's anything you could do to fix that. Maybe you would be able to use a computer at the library, or use someone else's? You really need to flash the 12B KDZ, or 10B KDZ first if you want to root again after.
Sorry for the bad news, hopefully you or someone figures something out.

That's kinda what I figured. I have my buddy bringing his laptop to work today to try it out. Thanks.

In the meantime, have you checked to see if it will still go into Download mode? With the phone off, press and hold the power button and while doing that, plug a USB cable that's already plugged into a (PC normally but maybe it can still be tested with a charger adapter?), plug it into the phone and the phone should turn on into Download mode. If so, then hopefully flashing the KDZ will sort it all out.

It does. Download mode works fine, I just can't use LG Flashtool or ADB on my work laptop to go that route.

I know you didn't take an OTA, but have you tried the method that fixes being stuck in twrp after an OTA? It can be done using terminal command in twrp. It may be worth giving it a shot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696

My God, man, you're a savior. Used Terminal Command in TWRP. Worked like a charm. Granted it put me on 11C, but at least my phone's working. Not sure why I didn't come across this in my 2 days of searching.
I owe you a craft beer, my friend.
I got this device used and it had been updated to the newest firmware. It would not work with Kingroot, Framaroot, SRS, or Kingo. The only option was to attempt to downgrade to an older firmware with unpatched exploits. The Verizon J1 has a locked bootloader so it cannot flash full firmware packages with older bootloaders. Luckily it can be downgraded to older firmware of the same android version with older kernel. I just had to unpack the firmware and remove the bootloader and repack. I tried to make a rooted stock firmware but can't seem to repack the system.img.ext4 properly after mounting it.
Now let's get down to business
1. Download Odin 3.09
2. Download modified (by me) rootable firmware. Do not rename file it might mess up md5sum.
3. Boot phone to download mode. Hold power+vol down+ home.
4. Start Odin and connect phone with original factory sync cable.
5. Click on the AP button and select the firmware downloaded above. It will check the md5sum automatically when it finishes and passes then press the start button. Once the flash finishes it will reboot.
6. Enable usb debugging.
7. Download Kingoroot for PC (google) and let it run. The apk will not work to root. It should install drivers automatically.
8. Profit!!
I'm testing a method to reliably switch to Supersu but having trouble updating binary 100% of the time. I've tried to flash exposed but Flashfire doesn't seem to work properly with this device. If anyone can suggest a workaround please share.
OP, is it okay if I don't have original factory sync cable in hands?

Yeah its ok you just run into less issues with original cable.
**Working on updating links I have a slow upload speed though.

If u want to switch to SuperSu from KingoROOT, the best and easiest method would be backing up ur phone and performing a soft reset. Afterwards simply install SuperSu, the superuser binary is already installed from kingroot - no worries, just update it normally via SuperSU and disable KNOX after the update is complete.
That switch idea of yours might get you bricked
Confirmed it works now we need a recovery so we can just flash su
SuperSUme works really really well lol, this phone is 32bit only any1 wanna try 4 a recovery?
Thxx bro
I've tried porting a few times from the j100h twrp and keep getting a return to Verizon dealer screen. So I'd assume the bootloader is still locked. Im going to try the old safestrap and see if i can't get that working. But im kinda a noob so I'll do my best.
p.s. Don't try flashing any recovery until you backup your current one with rashr or flashify.BE SAFE.btw I've yet to see supersume actually work but hey it could happen. I'd much rather just flash the su from a recovery.

Agreed about flashing the recovery, but you need to be rooted with KingOroot to get SuperSUme to work, & it helps to just keep the screen timeout turned off thru this process , after it says "complete" I downloaded SuperSU & installed, updated, "disabled" knox, & I can also use flashfire although its pretty worthless for anything other than backups, as the little AROMA shell emulator thingy does run after the verizon logo is showing, which indicates to me yea its locked down pretty solid lol.
I tried Safestrap & it gave me a /SS folder in my /etc so I looked into that but I can't manage to figure out how I should go placing the files to make it work lol. But i do know this thing is 32bit ONLY, so compiling the j100H twrp for instance will NOT flash no matter what we do to the bootloader, it will bootloop since the architecture is for a 64bit SoC, we need someone to compile the j100H twrp in a 32bit only compatible architecture, & then you can easily flash it like cake, & TWRP should do the rest like all other Samsung phones O.O
its gotten to the point these are all the apps I have when i restore haha, if you wanna PM me about working together to get this thing a little more flexible I'm always open to ideas . I only use this thing as a hotspot but would totally like to see a recovery at least make it over & from there I could definitely start the ROM bringup
Will I get bricked by doing this with Verizon

Haha believe it or not that's a pretty reasonable question! xD, you shouldn't, i cannot see why, if you have problems just restore i will help ya through it again, & if you want xposed ONLY use the material installer from xda
