I bought my Moto G 4G a couple of days ago and was wondering if I made the right choice - I can still send it back. Are there any reviews available on the E2 yet? I haven't found any.
How is the display, compared to the Moto G? The resolution is obviously worse, but how about brightness and viewing angles? Is it a bad compromise compared to the Moto G?
battery - would make a difference for me. The Moto E2 will probably be noticeably better, right?
The camera doesn't have a flash - but does it really make a huge difference? The camera in the Moto G is just bad.
I guess the processor won't make a huge difference
the Moto G is already quite old - the E2 will receive updates for a longer time I guess.
Maybe someone can just share their general view on this topic. I'm really happy with the Moto G so far, and usually that's all that counts. But you know how it is with that stuff...
Thanks!
Note: By Moto E, I'm referring to the second generation.
Display: The Moto E display is a bit lower resolution, but not bad at all. You can't see the pixels unless you hold it right up to your face. Brightness and viewing angles are good. Both have IPS LCD displays.
Battery: Moto E will probably be better. Both have good battery life.
Camera: I don't know if you care about the flash. Rear camera on Moto E is usable but not great. At least it is much better than the first gen E. Front camera on the new E is rubbish. I don't know much about the Moto G 4G camera, but it is probably a bit better than the second gen E.
Processor: The Cortex A53 is a significant improvement over the A7. It's around 40-50% faster. Once it gets 5.1, the new Moto E will be really snappy, trust me. Even as is on 5.0, it runs very well, better than the G.
Updates: Yes, I'd reckon that the Moto E will receive updates for years to come, while the Moto G 4G will probably be approaching EOL after it gets 5.0.

Thanks for your reply. So it sounds like a sure thing for you, if you don't care about the camera. I just ordered the E2 on Amazon, so I'll directly compare them on Friday. Thank god Amazon is so nice when it comes to returning things.
I've had my ME2 (Mote E 2nd Gen) for just over a day now, and I can honestly say it's well worth it. It doesn't feel cheap, is very snappy (no lag at all that I've come across), has a great display even if it isn't "high" resolution, and is very easy to use with "pure" Android as compared to TouchWiz or Sense. I also have a Note 3 with 5.0, and I actually prefer the Moto. The screen size is just right for me. I think anything over 5" is too big (for me) like the Note as I have small hands, but the 4.5" screen doesn't hinder use even being over an inch smaller that I've been using.

I am planning to buy a new smartphone. So should I go for Moto E 2nd Gen or Moto G 2nd Gen?
Note: Battery backup matters a lot for me.

The LTE version is already released in Germany (199 €). I'd say this is really a question of if you like the bigger screen...
Edit: Just found a decent review of the Moto E2: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/03/review-the-new-moto-e-is-the-most-phone-you-can-get-for-150/1/

I second the Moto G. However, for $200 you might be able to score a used HTC One M7 (if you're really lucky), which has great developer support.
Second that

I second both of these.
Definitely check out swappa because they have some fantastic deals for some stunning devices, but go for the moto g if you want a brand new device. The community is awesome and there are plenty of roms and mods to make your device work like a charm.

Thanks for the info on Swappa.
Do you have recommendations for clean and efficient custom ROMs for the Moto G? I've been spending all my time with the HTC One, but my wife has been complaining about issues with her stock Moto G.
For a new phone it's hands down the Moto G.
As for used, you could also score a N4 if you're lucky. With the release of the N6, maybe even the N5.
Besides the Moto G, you should also consider the value-for-money Sony M2

Like I said before, when it comes to the best budget smartphone available in the market today, Moto G win hands down. The Forbes magazine recently put it this way: 'Motorola Moto G vs Everything Else: There's no competition, this is the number one smartphone. As an all-round handset, as the handset that is going to be rated as above average and exceeds expectations in almost every area, one cannot look past the Moto G in the current crop of smartphones.'

I would say the moto g 4g LTE also but if your top budget is $200 I would pick the One Plus One best flagship of 2014 and all round brilliant phone
Note 2.
Old, but it's still getting official Lollipop, (Which is quite unique for a 2.5 year old phone) has great support, 720p, 5.5", 2GB RAM, Quadcore, 8MP and an Spen.

Motorolla has upgraded their Moto E to 2nd generation. Is this worth buying?
Yes bro it will be worth to upgraded because of improvement in camera department(autofocus) and there is also front facing camera also included.
Yes, it's a lot better than Moto E 1st, with a quad core proccy as well. But it's the ugliest phone I have ever seen. When held in hand, it seems as if we are holding it upside down, lel.
Don't know. Depends on your budget. My first gen works fine so i think 2nd gen should be good. All paper specs aside i think it is a nice and robust mobile unlike all the rest of the crowd. I mean you drop them once and they are dead. Dropped my moto e a hundred times but still working fine. Tried almost all the roms from slimkat to carbon to cm12 etc. etc. But still my moto e is sticking around with me with no softbricking. And it is my first android. I learned everything anout android on it. So for me moto e is the best budget phone so i think 2nd gen is worth an upgrade for selfie lovers, gamers without shedding much money. Only turn off is lack of flash.
Hi guys, i was wondering wich is better in matters of performance?
I've looked both phones technical specifications on various sites, E has better hardware than G, but there is a doubt when it comes to reallity.
Wich is REALLY better?
Only way to know would to have both on hands to compare.
I went with e 2015 lte over g. Mostly for expandable memory. I don't use camera much, especially on bad lighting. I like the newer SoC and the slightly smaller screen means one handed use.
It was a toss up for me and I landed with latest moto e.

Isn't the screen/phone size the same?
I guess so, 4,5" isn't ?

OP is talking abt the 2013 g
Oic. Thought he was wanting the latest g....
G battery does have poor performance. Even on gen 2. Larger, brighter screen... Practically same size battery....
Sent from my Moto E 2015 LTE
Apart from the lower screen resolution and inferior front facing camera, the 2015 Moto E LTE is better than the first gen G in almost every way. The new E has a bigger battery, faster and more power efficient SoC, and it will continue to be supported for longer than the first gen G.

The best review u can get about these phones is here because I own both of them
I bought moto e2 on first day release and my dad bought moto g2 both have same CPU(1.4ghz quadcore)same ram, same chipsets, same gpu (adreno 302) but there are pros and con's of both
If u buy moto e then u loose nice front and rear cameras moto g has camera 3* better
Also u loose a more bigger and crisper screen though u can't see the difference with naked eyes
Also moto e has 5.2 GB internal memory and moto g has 12.8 GB so this ones a big factor for me
But If u buy moto g u loose a 2300mah super awesome battery of moto e
Moto g has a bigger screen and a smaller battery 2000mah that's bad
Motoe has the best backup in the world if I put it on standby with net on then it looses 1% an hour yeah that's amazing backup of 100 hours but can give 95 hr's standby with net on
But motog's battery is quite weak than motoe rather very less backup due to big size of screen but less battery
Also buying motog will make u loose 2 awesome features of motoe that are moto display and twist twice to open camera they are real cool
So if u don't care about a big screen and camera then motoe is the show stealer and if u prefer a big screen and camera but can compromise on motog battery then go with moto

so I'm looking to get a smartwatch and am trying to decide between the zenwatch 2 and moto 360 gen1. I've read a lot of threads on the moto 360 about firmware issues after the latest update. so if you had to decide, would you go with the zenwatch 2 or moto 360 knowing that you may have issues with the moto 360?
Zw2. The first gen moto has an older TI processor, much slower overall. There is another forum were this has been asked and that was one if the big things. A lot comes to personal preference as well, do prefer round or square?
this kinda says it all as well:
"would you go with the zenwatch 2 or moto 360 knowing that you may have issues with the moto 360?"
I own both a Moto 360 (1st gen) and a Gear 2 (running AW), just to compare them what I like best.
Both watches have their positive and negative points, so you need to look for them and check your personal likings.

I prefer a round face, but that can be overcome with a custom round watchface. What draws me to the zenwatch 2 is more the price point and it is a bit faster than the moto 360. I was just curious if ZW2 users have experienced more issues with it than it's worth.
I've had mine for about 2 weeks. Average 2 days battery with screen always on. No issues to speak of yet!

are you making your own watch faces or getting them from the market? does the zw2 drain your phone battery any faster having to have bluetooth on all the time?
i'm currently using Pujie Black and Instaweather. haven't gotten into making my own aside from customizing Pujie. i never used BT prior to this but have notice no real effect on my Note 4.
Bought the original Moto 360 as soon as it was released. It was such a piece of junk I returned it within the week. The ZW2 is so much faster and better made... amazing they can offer this for under $150.
I bought my ZW2 over my Moto 360 Gen1, which I had for about 8 or 9 months. No regrets.
I have a Motorola Moto X Pure and standard storage is starting to become a common issue for me, have to keep removing cache from Facebook, Google Play Music, Chrome in order to update apps at times. So I am getting ready to buy a new phone.
My last phones have been:
Moto X Style (Pure) 3rd Gen
Moto X Pure 2nd Gen
LG G4
Moto X 1st Gen
My Moto X lasts me all day at work without any issues and the Moto X series of phones has been the phone that stopped me from running custom roms. Literally only run Root and XPosed now for a few things.
I have been eyeing the new LG V20 and even comparing it to the G5 since the G5 has dropped in price and been out for a bit.
As far as the Pixel phones go I may get one, the issue is that google is not doing much to support SD cards anymore, and the Moto Z series is very nice and could still be a contender.
FYI I am on T-Mobile
You are asking this question on the G5 forum, the majority of persons will encourage you to get a G5 , and I'm one of them .
PS: The V20 is like a G5 with a better audio quality and a bigger screen .
If you're picky, it's not the right phone. The bottom chin creeks when you bend it up or down as it does wobble a little. The screen has issues, such as light bleed.
Aside from this, it's super fast and camera is great.
