Was wondering if the fingerprint scanner can be used with encryption without strange workarounds like I did on my note 4.
Has samsung finally made fingerprint scanner Microsoft Exchange friendly?
Will the S6 Edge 128gb be launched all over or just few countries
I am considering switching from Verizon to AT&T, for a few reasons:
1.) There seems to be a trend of AT&T devices getting updates substantially sooner than Verizon devices
2.) Due to using GSM instead of CDMA, it's easier/cheaper to find unlocked/off-contract devices for AT&T
3.) I live and work near a major metro area, so coverage should easily be as good
Thoughts? Recommendations?
Thanks.

Att and Verizon like to lock their bootloaders. I haven't even put my pre-order in for my T-Mobile device because I don't know if they are going to follow the trend of att and Verizon. But I guess it depends on what your plan on doing with your device.

Okay then, I have a T-Mobile Galaxy s6 Edge and our dev forum is a ghost town. Which ROMs are safe for me to flash? I'm running latest doi1 update. Can I flash pretty much any rom from any s6 Edge forum as long as its 5.1.1?
As far as it is from your own android version , you can use any rom.
To see whether it is safe or not read what other users have replied , it will give yoyu a general idea about the bugs and features of the rom
Please press the thanks button...
wow a whole topic for self promotion, this will soon be tumble weed
i recently got an s6 edge updated to 5.1.1 and was suffering from extreme battery drainage during idle but then i figured out that the drain stopped once i put the mobile network to gsm only..it's a temporary fix but is still annoying as i have to do these extra steps in order to turn mobile data on and also can't leave data on as it sips the away battery every minute..can anyone guide me to a fix? or i was wondering to flash the stock 5.1.1 upate via odin as a factory reset has failed to fix the issue.can anyone tell me about the most debloated stock firmware available as in my countrys version even whatsapp comes pre installed.
Help with system storage
Hello, Im using a t-mobile galaxy s6 edge. I have flashed twrp and rooted, running unikernel and extresolite deodexed with optional aroma package. My system storage is showing 7.2gb im not sure why as my whole rom should not be more than 2gb all together. Can someone possible link me to a thread where I can find how to remove all of this system storage? Its also th 32gb version of the phone btw.
Is there a flashable .zip for the latest modem? I'm using the international s6edge.
Thanks in advance.

his is regarding update LMY47X.G925VVRU4BOG9.
Model SM-G925V, Currently running Android version 5.0.2
New G6 edge owner as of a few weeks ago. I keep getting an update alert for this LMY47X.G925VVRU4BOG9 patch. The first few times I tried this, the screen crashed to a boot screen and I selected reboot. Today, it seems like the update went through successfully and I saw the "Updating apps" screen running up to 280 or so (Which I find strange as I haven't transferred my old apps to this phone yet and doubt I have that many in the first place.)
Unfortunately, when the home screen comes up I get the SAME pop-up telling me about that the same software update. Nothing happened. No changes in the screen's appearance and, indeed, I am still running version 5.0.2. I tried installing the patch again but the same thing happens.
Any ideas? FYI I am using the SIM card from my old phone as I utilized the BB method to obtain Verizon contract upgrade with 2 year contract but not lose my unlimited plan. Could that play a factor?
Thanks.
I had a similar problem with my galaxy y.Ask the Samsung guyz, they can guide you on this
.
.also are you rootted or did something custom with ur phone??
If that update is not a big issue for you, simply turn off its notifications....
Please press the thanks button...
Help is always appreciated
Okay, I currently have a SM-G925T I'm not sure whats up with it, but I installed the OH8 update and was no longer able to root the device and install a custom ROM without being locked out of my phone by KNOX. I thought that the custom rom had removed all KNOX filed but I guess not. After flashing the stock rom back on to the device it updated again to the Canadian DOJ7 update? not sure why. anyway, installed unikernel, and the sick as hell rom (testing it out). I can use wifi calling and texting only (the phone says connected to t-mobile only while I am on wifi, otherwise I cannot use mobile data or sms.) Am I doing something Wrong during the flashing process??? a little more info, I have a galaxy s5 stock that can use mobile data on the same sim perfectly fine so it is not the data connection with t-mobile, also before the update everything was working fine. I am also not new to this, I just have no clue why his is happening, tried going back to stock and re-flashing about 15 times now still same problem. please help
Appreciate all the help in advance!
Soft Bricked Edge after system wipe on TWRP
Hi guys!
So I was going to flash a custom rom to my rooted galaxy s6 edge (Canadian Version) and I had flashed TWRP using Odin. So as I was wiping the data before flashing my rom I clicked off on "system" accidentally and now my phone's stuck on the boot image of Galaxy S6 Edge. I can't go into recovery, all I can do is go into download mode and use ODIN. But every time I flash TWRP it says success but it nothing happens when I hold down volume up + home + power. When I tried to flash the stock Canadian firmware ODIN keeps failing to do so.
I don't know proper forum etiquette but this is a link to the thread I started under troubleshooting:

Hi All,
i have flashed the crisscross rom bu asc1977. Now my problem is, there is his Crisscross logo on bootup instead of stock Galaxy S6 Edge Welcome logo. I have flashed different roms via zipand odin (also stock rom) but nothing does change. What can i do to solve this and go back to stock. Thanks... (and sorrry for my bad english )
plssss help.

I can only on download mode .
So I tried to re-root by using the 5.1.1 version and it still got the same error. Stupid, I know
I did some google search and I found out that I need to flash to stock firmware, so I tried.
And it have new problem: SW REV CHECK FAIL DEVICE 3 BINARY 2

Its kind of rude you would post that, when someone asks a legitimate question on an "android support and development " forum
My original google query lead me here,
and your link sent me to pretty much the same place. No answers
Realllllly would love to know if i can even get unlocked now that im on JB(never bothered) and ROOTED again after losing it during jelly bean update.....
Or if i can just ROOT stock JB.
OR unlock and install a custom ROM W/ root. I have no idea what to do,and i can see asking would probably end up with me getting a "let me google that" link

Regardless of what page your question is on, it is asked multiple times a week and has been answered MANY times.
YES you can unlock with the ASUS unlock tool on JB assuming you have a valid serial number on your tab. Then you can flash one of the root tools to the device once you have set up TWRP. Search for Urkels fresh start in the prime forums.

I know it is annoying to see the same qustions many times but let me tell you that I had the same issue and spent half the day yesterday trying to get Adb to work and countless other ways to root jb. Im not new at this as I have ten or more phones and tablets and have never not been able to root after a couple of hours of searching till yesterday on my prime.
All im saying is don't be so quick to assume someone didn't search. Thanks for the info on urkel's root sounds promising and will try when I get home because I got so frustrated last night I gave up trying to root my prime.

Would it be normal that I cannot use the Asus Unlocking App v6 ?
It says it's for ICS (at that time, it meant for people to move to ICS and leave Honeycomb), so I don't know if it's still revelant for JB ... JB being much closer to ICS than HB... right ?
So now I am thinking, could it be S/N related ?
Now that I think about it, it starts to make sense : ever since I sent my tablet to ASUS via RMA for major problem (couldn't recognize the docking station), I could not, not even once, get an OTA. Even my manually checking for updates when it has been available for days ... I heard OTA works with S/N ... could it be that ? Could it be that my S/N is not in Asus database ?
What do you think ?
I am desperate to unlock my Prime, since I may know a way to root it ...

My prime came back from RMA today (broken screen, FOC replacement), with JB, and showing 'this device is unlocked' on the boot screen.
Replaced parts were screen and 'MAIN_BD'.
Without trying the Asus unlock tool, I unstalled TWRP and then manually installed su. So, if you've not already tried, it might be worth flashing TWRP using fastboot.
To the people than live and breath the art of ROM flashing unlocking and all things "Voodoo" related I am sure its very annoying to get lots of repeat questions. To those is search of answers it is also depressing not to find them.
I have been searching for days (on and off as also need to work etc) to find out how to root my Transformer Prime with Jelly Bean and so far not found the answer, just comments about "its been answered many times" .... I am sure it has but its still very hard to find .... big thanks to all those that help

To put it plainly, the answer is actually out there, i needed to seek some advice and i found some, but i found it by blind luck.
It was long winded but actually what was written actually made sense after i'd done it.
The answer your looking for is here my friend, you just need to search and find it, i know that flashing your prime can be a daunting process but bear with it, it's worth the pay off.
Sorry i can't help more, i was spoon fed my tutorial and my apologies for not having the brains at the moment to recall (too much wine )
EDIT: The reason why people get pissed off with the re asking of questions, is because if like me you run a thread, then your used to the same arsey questions being asked daily, and being the soft heart that i am, i always tend to just answer them, instead of saying "Look back a few pages you child of satan!!!!!!!!!!!"
I'm not that cold
Either way the answers are there and there are Some cool people out there who will help, i guess it's just a case of getting lucky with it,
I personally have RMA'd my prime and will probably get it back locked to fecking jelly bean and no way around it, but hey so long as the camera works, it may be worth it
Good luck m8, and if you do get it working, why not try to write a dumbass version here
PS: What does RMA actually mean? Return to manufacturer for Action??? or something?? I'm not sure. answers on a postcard

Samsung Galaxy S III - International GT-I9300
This a short list of frequently asked questions with answers related to the Samsung Galaxy S III. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document and refrain from posting "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300?
There are several methods to achieve this:
CF-AutoRoot by Chainfire
CF-Root by Chainfire
A custom kernel like Siyah, Speedmod and others which can be flashed with Odin or Heimdall
Use the toolkit by mskip
Q2: What can I do to conserve/improve battery life?
Official Samsung Touchwiz ROMs enable Smart Screen by default. You can tell it's enabled if you see an eye icon in the top right corner of your phones home screen. Smart Screen attempts to sense when you are looking at the screen to turn it on and to rotate the screen when you change your viewing angle but it is also notorious for draining the battery.
To turn it off go to Settings -> My Device -> Smart Screen then disable 'Smart Stay' and 'Smart rotation'.
To conserve your battery under official firmwares it is also recommended to enable power saving mode and, for all firmwares, you should turn off the WiFi, Bluetooth and your mobile data connections whenever you are not using them to minimize battery drain.
Q3: How do I flash (install) ROMs?
ROMs that come packaged as a .zip file are usually installed using a custom recovery tool such as TWRP or ClockworkMod. Unlike previous Samsung Galaxy S devices the recovery for the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 is NOT part of the kernel. Instead, the SGSIII has a separate recovery partition. Custom recovery partitions can be installed using Odin if you are running Windows or Heimdall, which is available for Linux/UNIX and Mac OSX as well as Windows.
Some ROMs come packaged as a .tar.md5 file. These can only be directly flashed using Odin. Heimdall users are required to extract the individual tar files from within the .tar.md5 file and then flash them to the correct partitions using an appropriate .pit (partition map) file. Heimdall can be used to generate .pit files by extracting the existing partition map from your phone. Note that .tar.md5 files are actually just regular tar files with an added .md5 extension.
Q4: How can I return to the stock ROM?
There is sometimes the need to revert to the stock ROM, for example when you need to return your device if its still under warranty. doovd made this great guide to the process.
Q5: What is Odin?
Odin is a leaked tool from Samsung. It is used to flash firmwares (aka ROMs) to phones. There are many how-to's covering the use of Odin, such as this. Others can be found on the XDA WIKI.
Q6: How do I unlock my bootloader?
There is no need to unlock the bootloader as it is already unlocked! This is the case for most Samsung devices.
Q7: I have heard about EFS. Why is this so important?
/EFS is a partition on your phone where your IMEI code is stored. Without it your phone is an expensive PDA as you will not be able to make calls. Make sure to have a backup of this partition on a separate device before you attempt to flash new ROMs. TWRP and Philz recovery let you backup the EFS partition.
The format of the EFS partition changed with the release of the MG4 modem firmware so this can cause issues if your modem version and EFS don't match. Here is an explanation of the Samsung firmware naming convention.
Q8: After flashing a ROM I cannot make calls. I now get a 'Not registered on network' error on my lock screen and if I look under Settings -> About Phone -> Status my IMEI begins with 0049 and my serial number has changed to a string of zeros. How can I fix this?
There are many threads on this forum suggesting this problem is caused by an EFS/modem mismatch or a corrupt EFS partition. This is a potential cause but its more likely you have flashed a ROM with the incorrect CSC (Customer Sales Code) for your phone network. For example, you can experience this error if you've flashed a BTU ROM when your network requires a H3G (Three) CSC. It can also be caused by flashing a ROM using the PDA instead of the CSC option under Odin. You can check your current CSC by dialling *#1234# or connecting your phone to Kies.
If you flashed with Odin and you're sure you flashed a ROM with the correct CSC, the first thing to try is flashing the same ROM using Odin's CSC mode instead of PDA mode. If your phone is rooted you can try changing the CSC mode using a CSC changer app but be warned that doing so will perform a factory reset - wiping all your settings, apps, messages and locally stored contacts etc. If none of those methods restore your correct IMEI, serial and network connectivity then a number of S3 users have reported success by flashing A.S._id's rescue firmware.
Q9: I'm sure I've correctly flashed an SGSIII ROM with the right CSC for my network but why can I still not make calls?
If your phone was running an Android version less than v4.3 before you flashed a new ROM then you may need to install a patched modem and, if you upgraded to a newer stock ROM, a patched kernel too such as the zuluman modem FW/kernel. You will usually not need to install a patched kernel if you install CyanogenMod or a CM-based ROM. A number of kernels and modem firmwares patched for Android 4.3+ are available here.
Q10: What is the best ROM for the SGSIII?
Galaxy ROMs come in two flavours. CyanogenMod-based ROMs and TouchWiz-based ROMs. CyanogenMod is completely open source and forms the basis of several derivatives such as AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and many more. These ROMs lack a number of features exclusive to Samsung's TouchWiz like Svoice, Smart Stay, S-Beam and so on. On the other hand, they generally perform better thanks to consuming less resources.
There is no such thing as 'the best rom', it is a subjective matter. Please read this sticky thread in the General section.
Q11: Where can I download the official firmware files from?
Official firmware files are available here.
Q12: How do I enable Debug mode?
Since Android 4.2 debug (developer) mode has been hidden by default. Debug mode can be enabled by tapping 7 times on Build number under Settings -> About Phone.
Q13: How do I enter Download Mode and Recovery mode?
Make sure your phone is unplugged and powered off, then:
Download Mode: Hold Volume down, home, and power until you see the green dude.
Recovery: Hold Volume up, home, and power for about 5 seconds then release all buttons. This might take a couple of tries.
Q14: What is the 'Flash Counter'?
Your phone's flash counter is triggered and incremented after installing a custom firmware. This is Samsung's way of knowing that you have modded your device. Thanks to the awesome people at XDA, this counter can be reset. Refer to this thread.
Q15: What is ADB and how do I use it?
[GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone
Q16: I've been asked to provide a logcat. How do I do that?
How to read a logcat/ Troubleshoot your own issues!
Q17: TitaniumBackup can't find my backups anymore!
This usually occurs after upgrading to Android 4.2 when users forget to also update the recovery partition. Older recoveries can't handle the multiuser support on the sdcards so your data got repeatedly shifted to a folder named 0, resulting in /sdcard/0/0/0... etc. That is where your backups have gone! You simply have to update TitaniumBackup's settings to point to the correct location and your backups will re-appear.
Q18: I have searched everywhere and still can't find an answer to my question!
Have you really searched everywhere? Google? Have you tried asking in the XDA thread relating to your problem? Have you read the stickies and FAQs? If you have honestly spent more than 5-10 minutes searching for an answer, post a new thread in the Q&A section.

My point is that there are already FAQS and Guides stickied that are unread .All bar question 12 have been posted for a long long time in the stickies .
But i will be honest i have no idea at all how mods can prevent this forum from degenerating even further .
Possible duplication of sticky s in both General and Q&A may help .

It's been a long time since I registered, but is there some kind of big splash screen that pops up saying read the FAQ/stickies? If not, there should be!
And it should be like one of those annoying t&c's things on windows apps that won't let you past until you have scrolled down.
In fact, you should have to read instructions, saying things like search/faq/stickies etc, then you have to answer 5 questions correctly before you can register!

If you have read Q12, you would have gone to the Note2 section instead of the i9300 one. And I have no idead what you are asking, let alone the answer.
i think you should change the answer to Q7

Hello,
I just switched over from having iPhones since version 3 to a new Samsung Galaxy S4. Being grandfathered into AT&T’s unlimited data plan, I would like to continue to use PadNet on my new S4 like I used on my Jailbroken iPhone 5. In starting to do some research last night, I see that rooting is a bit more complicated that just downloading and running the evasi0n Jailbreak executable. It appears that rooting application I run has to be specifically for my AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-1337 running Android 4.3, with Baseband 1337UCEMK2. Being I’m pretty good at following directions, I was hoping that I could someone who’s knowledgeable can provide me with specific links for accessing the correct rooting software. Also, while I have Kies installed and I used it to transfer my contacts and calendar appointments to my new S4, when I look in device manager under “Other devices” I don’t see anything that says Samsung S4 but I do see an icon that says “Unknown device” so on top of the rooting software, I believe I need to have the latest USB drivers installed on my Windows 7 32 Bit desktop as well. I also understand that I can activate the native Hotspot capabilities of my new S4 after I root it, but I’m concerned that it may not have the capability to hide my usage from the carrier as PadNet.
Thanks!

Thank you for your quick response! The primary reason I created this posting is because I did look around the S4 Android Development website but I'm still not sure where to download the S4 USB drivers for my Windows 7 desktop and being that it appears that I must use the correct rooting software for my AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-1337 running Android 4.3, with Baseband 1337UCEMK2 so I was hoping that someone can point me to the correct links for accessing the correct rooting software as well.
Thanks,
Joe

Help with Rooting My New S4
Hello,
I installed the the Samsung drivers and "SAMSUNG Android Phone" now shows up under processors. The next thing I'm looking for is the correct rooting software for my AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-1337 running Android 4.3, with Baseband 1337UCEMK2. I did click on your link below and it took me to General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking > unlock accessrights pro 2.0.0.3. In reviewing this page, I don't see anything that talks about rooting my Samsung Galaxy S4 so could this possibly be the wrong page to look at? In addition, other than selecting rate thread as excellent, I'm not sure how to to hit all of your thanks buttons so if you can tell me how to do that, I will.
Thanks,
Joe

Help with Rooting My New S4
Hello,
Turns out that when I clicked on your embedded link, it took me to the correct page for rooting my S4. As for the SD card, I have to run out to a store to purchase a SD Memory card reader for my PC but wanted to check with you to see if my existing 8GB SD card is big enough. I assume it is but wanted to check in case I need to get a bigger one.
Thanks,
Joe

***INFORMATION REGARDING***
***NEW/REWORKED UPDATES***
The Modem packages were recently reworked to include the "much needed" Baseband files (of course) pulled from the Official Samsung Stock Firmware.
This is ONLY because the following list of files are ALL of the Baseband/Modem files that are actually the part of the Firmware that controls ALL the radio devices within the GS5 to include (but, not limited to) the GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, Cellular Data/Voice, etc...
MODEM.BIN
NON-HLOS.BIN
RPM.MBN
SBL1.MBN
SBL2.MBN
SBL3.MBN
TZ.MBN
Please keep in mind that, because these functions are Highly Regulated & Certified, they are actually Separate from the Android Operating System (aka the Firmware ROM installed like AOSP, LineageOS, etc...).
This is the reason that, after flashing the "Baseband Firmware Modem Update", it DOESN'T DIRECTLY AFFECT the Android Firmware installed on your devide. Your Android Firmware (basically) takes note of the update and updates itself to reflect those said changes (simply put without getting too deep).
DISCLAIMER/FYI
- Any process (like updating your modem) via Odin/TWRP/CWM is simple/easy to do but, as always, if your not sure of what your doing and don't do your research (ie... searching, asking questions, etc... first), then you take the risk of damaging your device.
- I take no responsibility for any unexpected results/damage that may happen but, I am always willing to provide assistance to help you out.
- Also keep in mind that when performing any unconventional updates, unlocking, rooting, etc... you may end up "voiding your warranty"!
INSTRUCTIONS
1. If not already done, be sure your PC/LPTP has the latest "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones" installed.
2. Download the ".tar.md5" Modem file you need from any of the Download Links provided (below).
3. Power off your device and then enter Download Mode (aka Odin Mode) by using the required key combination ("Home" & "Volume Down" then "Power").
4. Connect the USB cable to the Device and PC.
5. Open Odin and select the PDA/AP and choose the ".tar.md5" Modem file you downloaded.
{Please Note: It's typically reccomended to use Odin v3.09-v3.12 (other versions of Odin may also work).
6. In Odin, please be sure not to make any additional selections than the default that was already selected when you opened Odin.
7. Select the Odin "Start" button at the bottom & be patient for the process to complete and Odin should reflect a Green "PASS" when completed (The device will reboot automatically when done).

The following link takes you there. It's for Windows OS and I also had Zipped it up to help reduce the size (all you have to do is unzip it for the software).
Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones v1.5.65.0 {05-22-2017} - Android File Host
I believe that this is the latest version released in May 2017 but, if anyone knows where there's a more recent release than the v1.5.65.0, please let me know.
I hope this is helpful for you!
Thank you very much and, as always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Is it safe (and recommended) to update build fro OF1 to PL1?

If your referring to updating the Modem, then yes.
The modem updates here doesn't update the Firmware "ROM" itself but, just the specific "Modem" Firmware only.
For example... I've got an S5 that has LineageOS in it and, when a new Firmware ROM was released for it, i updated the Modem Firmware and it didn't affect anything else but, just updated the Modem only.
When you update the modem, via Odin, it takes less than 30 seconds and it's finished.
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...

I'm unfamiliar with updating the "modem." I have an S4 on OF1 build, so I have to be extra careful as to what I do or brick occurs.

I completely understand and I am very careful with what I flash as well as I've bricked a few of my devices before and was very lucky to be able to recover them (I've got other devices solely for testing my developments and such).
I can honestly state that I've tested ALL of these Modem Updates and they work just as they were intended. No problems experienced.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Good Luck!

This is a very good question that I don't see much myself!
As much as I would have no problem with explaining this, it would be much easier to point you in the direction where it's already been explained (probably better than I could do).
I took a quick look around and located the following link that looks like a very good explanation.

At this time I don't have any that are flashable via TWRP.

I pulled out an old modem TWRP/CWM zip and looked at the script inside and it looks like I can just flash it via DD from a root terminal if I extract the modem.bin file first. The command would be something like "dd if=/tmp/modem.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2" as the script did this:
assert(package_extract_file("modem.bin", "/tmp/modem.bin"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/modem.bin", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2"),
delete("/tmp/modem.bin"));

I honestly can't state this...
I haven't created a TWRP Flashable Firmware Modem Update in quite a while since the Odin Flashables work just as good as the TWRP Ones.
I wish I could be more helpful but, I just don't want to provide guidance with something that I may be incorrect with and I really don't want to get you in a bad situation.

Try this...
Place the Firmware in the AP.
Place the PIT file where the PIT file goes.
Only select the Re-partition and the Auto Reboot option.
That Should work.

I've gotta admit that sometimes I've been amazed myself at some of the most odd actions, processes, etc... have revived as well as killed devices that you would never have even imagined.
I'm just happy to see that your all set and the best of luck with your device!

S4 verizon problem
Hi, I have a phone model SCH-I545(jfltevwz) with android 4.4.2
originally the hostspot option does not work by different simcards, nor the usb tethering option.
do you guess it would solve if I change the Firmware to last version?

if you agree, is it required to change the recovery?

The guidance that I would recommend is all based upon your Yes or No answer for the following question.
Do you have a Custom Recovery (ie... TWRP, CWM, etc...) installed to indicate that your Bootloader is, in fact, Unlocked?
Don't worry about your answer because either answer is not a wrong or bad one. Your answer would only allow me to provide you with the appropriate steps based upon your setup.

should I use recovery file in this case?

What do you mean by the Recovery File?
Are you referring to the Pit File?
