Your sarcasm is quite annoying for someone actually looking how to do this because, this thread is the first thing on the page when you SEARCH GOOGLE for how to unlock a prime running jellybean, or if its even possible. The "let me google that" link, sends you back to this page (derp)

Its kind of rude you would post that, when someone asks a legitimate question on an "android support and development " forum
My original google query lead me here,
and your link sent me to pretty much the same place. No answers
Realllllly would love to know if i can even get unlocked now that im on JB(never bothered) and ROOTED again after losing it during jelly bean update.....
Or if i can just ROOT stock JB.
OR unlock and install a custom ROM W/ root. I have no idea what to do,and i can see asking would probably end up with me getting a "let me google that" link

Regardless of what page your question is on, it is asked multiple times a week and has been answered MANY times.
YES you can unlock with the ASUS unlock tool on JB assuming you have a valid serial number on your tab. Then you can flash one of the root tools to the device once you have set up TWRP. Search for Urkels fresh start in the prime forums.

I know it is annoying to see the same qustions many times but let me tell you that I had the same issue and spent half the day yesterday trying to get Adb to work and countless other ways to root jb. Im not new at this as I have ten or more phones and tablets and have never not been able to root after a couple of hours of searching till yesterday on my prime.
All im saying is don't be so quick to assume someone didn't search. Thanks for the info on urkel's root sounds promising and will try when I get home because I got so frustrated last night I gave up trying to root my prime.

Would it be normal that I cannot use the Asus Unlocking App v6 ?
It says it's for ICS (at that time, it meant for people to move to ICS and leave Honeycomb), so I don't know if it's still revelant for JB ... JB being much closer to ICS than HB... right ?
So now I am thinking, could it be S/N related ?
Now that I think about it, it starts to make sense : ever since I sent my tablet to ASUS via RMA for major problem (couldn't recognize the docking station), I could not, not even once, get an OTA. Even my manually checking for updates when it has been available for days ... I heard OTA works with S/N ... could it be that ? Could it be that my S/N is not in Asus database ?
What do you think ?
I am desperate to unlock my Prime, since I may know a way to root it ...

My prime came back from RMA today (broken screen, FOC replacement), with JB, and showing 'this device is unlocked' on the boot screen.
Replaced parts were screen and 'MAIN_BD'.
Without trying the Asus unlock tool, I unstalled TWRP and then manually installed su. So, if you've not already tried, it might be worth flashing TWRP using fastboot.
To the people than live and breath the art of ROM flashing unlocking and all things "Voodoo" related I am sure its very annoying to get lots of repeat questions. To those is search of answers it is also depressing not to find them.
I have been searching for days (on and off as also need to work etc) to find out how to root my Transformer Prime with Jelly Bean and so far not found the answer, just comments about "its been answered many times" .... I am sure it has but its still very hard to find .... big thanks to all those that help

To put it plainly, the answer is actually out there, i needed to seek some advice and i found some, but i found it by blind luck.
It was long winded but actually what was written actually made sense after i'd done it.
The answer your looking for is here my friend, you just need to search and find it, i know that flashing your prime can be a daunting process but bear with it, it's worth the pay off.
Sorry i can't help more, i was spoon fed my tutorial and my apologies for not having the brains at the moment to recall (too much wine )
EDIT: The reason why people get pissed off with the re asking of questions, is because if like me you run a thread, then your used to the same arsey questions being asked daily, and being the soft heart that i am, i always tend to just answer them, instead of saying "Look back a few pages you child of satan!!!!!!!!!!!"
I'm not that cold
Either way the answers are there and there are Some cool people out there who will help, i guess it's just a case of getting lucky with it,
I personally have RMA'd my prime and will probably get it back locked to fecking jelly bean and no way around it, but hey so long as the camera works, it may be worth it
Good luck m8, and if you do get it working, why not try to write a dumbass version here
PS: What does RMA actually mean? Return to manufacturer for Action??? or something?? I'm not sure. answers on a postcard

does it take off everything that is on the rommy thingy?...or what...and f i want to just install it do i have to cid unlock?...( i got aa g3 now) or do i shelltool it...

From your questions, you really shouldn't be doing anything with your phone before reading the wiki on this and taking some time to read the forums a bit closer.
i didnt ask that...if u cant answer my question just say so,,,thanks for trying
TaurusBullba wasnt being mean. TaurusBullba was pointing out a few honest truths.
Hypothetically speaking, if someone doesnt know what shelltool does, despite their being a thread with almost 300 posts on using the shelltool then they are obviously not ready to flash anything yet. Furthermore if someone doesnt know which devices the shelltool is designed for then they have again demonstrated that they are not ready to flash their expensive device.
Do as TaurusBullba said and be thankful someone took the time to answer your question in a civil manner.

Just CID unlock your G3, you dont need shell tools for that.
i dont want to cid unlock it..and i cant...hence the reason im using shell tools...i have read the thread before but was looking for clarification...sorry for asking...and the fact that there are 300 posts makes it even easier for some1 not 2 read all the posts...to get all the information...i ditnt think anyone would read all the post to make sure there perfect with it..hence the reason all people can make threads...to post finds...and questions...and again i say...i cant cid unlock my device...does it take off everything that is on the rom?...or what...and if i want to just install the rom the regular way do i have to cid unlock?...( i have a g3 now) or do i shelltool it...lets say im going to use farias real thing...to get everything on the rom do i install it regularly...or shelltool it?

The reason some threads are 300+ posts long is because so many topics are covered, so many questions are answered. By reading all the posts in the thread you might find your question is already answered, conversely by not reading all the pages you might miss something very important. For example imagine if someone didnt read the shelltool thread and missed the discussion about the virus version of shelltool, what kind of trouble would they be in then?
so i take it we should read every single page...no thanks

Just the kind of attitude that leads to you not knowing what shelltools does.
i think asking him to read 300 plus pages of anything is asking too much. And he is right that we all can post threads for a reason. But still most of the info he is seeking can easily be answered by reading the first page of the original shelltools thread.
personally i hate when people say "just unlock it" because people like me who can't void the warranty can't unlock it (i have a g3, but used shelltools to try and keep the warranty) This guy has read enough to know that it doesnt cid unlock your device.
to answer his original question, im pretty sure it just flashes the os and ipl and spl or anything (thats what happened with mine) Ive used nottosmarts and xplore with no problems with it. I say just try it and see if you get the full effect.
I see the users frustration with questions such as this, but this is a forum thats known for the way it is always willing to help a new user out. All we ask is the new user just does some research and not be baby fed.
And killacam even if there is a hint of attitude, they just dont want you to brick your phone, so take take it too much to heart
The issue here is that 99% of the people asking about shelltools are people that shouldn't be flashing their phone. You may be one of the exceptions but the lack of information in your posting about what you do know makes it hard to judge.
The fact is that even shell tool (and any unauthorized tool for that matter), can "brick" your phone and most of the time (read a few threads) people blame the people posting these tools. If you are worried about warranty then you should just be happy with your phone's built in OS.

are you talking to me? Why should i be happy with the packaged OS? Why can't i use a workaround that was developed from someone in these forums? In fact, i dont see a reason why anyone wouldn't use shelltools because of the fact that it saves the warranty.
Oh and a lot of programs can brick your phones, even the basic rom update if it's used in the wrong manner. And i don't like the way you went about this post; next time you need help maybe you shouldn't ask it, because that's apparently what you would like everyone else to do. I agree that he shouldnt have looked more at the shelltools thread, but to make a statement about me doesn't make sense.
It's never asking too much of a person to do things if he really wants to do it. Anyway, he doesn't have to read through the whole 300 pages as not every page has the information he needs, just browse through it mate and look for your magic keyword "G3"...
It was worth the 300 pages though, believe me, if I didn't I woundn't be using Core2.0 right now..
i dont think there is a warranty issue here since he wants to upgrade his OS and that would void his warranty (or not?)
the only way to learn is READING and if he doesnt want to read and expect someone else to do it for him thats a bit lazy on your part but here is my advice.....
1)if you can CID unlock your device (if you dont care about your waranty do it) this way you wont have any issues when upgrading to a different ROM
here is a link for some good info about cid unlocking http://www.htcwizardweb.net/node/170
or here you will find lokiwiz
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249474
2)if your question is what exacly Shell too does (what it does to the .nbk file) thats a question that you shouldnt be asking since you havent been able to flash a rom and that a question for a more experienced user.
3)read the first page of the Shell too thread that should answer all your questions if not be more specific about what you have done and what you can and cannot do this way we can help you directing you to the treads that might help you
4)and if none of this have help you you can PM me. i have flash several G3 and G4 devices and havent bricked any one of them.
As you can see i dont post as much im more of a Reader (the only way to learn) i usually dont post to ask but to help...thats why this forum is wonderful ...hope i helped in some way if not search....read this forum and google are your best friends

no, upgrading the OS through shelltools will not void the warranty. (that is if you change it back before you send it in for repair )
i agree with pretty much everything you said, and that's one thing people need to learn, is that if you read a little bit, things will just absorb and you will then gain some knowledge. these are expensive little machines to be messing around on lol.
The Real Thing won't work on it
You can try, but Faria's Real Thing won't work on a G3 CID-locked device using ShellTool. I tried already. What I did was just CID-Unlocked my G3 a few days ago. If you need to send it in for repairs, you can always lock it back up using the CID-unlocking software called Lokiwiz. Then you can just use the RUU to flash the image
Hi im a relative newbie to the forum and have seen threads about upgrading my WM5 to a new Rom? version of WM6 but I have some basic questions which dont seem to be covered.
1. What exactly is a ROM upgrade?
2. The thread I saw for rom upgrade had several different version of WM6, Im totally confused about which one to use?
3. Will I be able to revert back to my working WM5 with a hard reset if I dont like the upgrade or it goes wrong?
4. Are there any risks associated with upgrading to WM6?
5. What does 'radio' mean? (as in my system info below)?
Sorry for seemingly basic question but hope someone can help.
Thanks

My current phone details are;

Changing the "firmware" in your hermes, generally to an higher/newer/better version. There are several parts in a rom, bootloader, OS, radio, extrom, etc... you can choose if you want to upgrade them all or only some parts.

no, you'll have to flash the t-mobile rom (available in the wiki) to go back to what you have now. Some parts will not be reversible depending on what you upgrade, read more below.

Yes, too many to list them, read through the hardSPL & bricked devices thread and you'll see.

The radio is a separate subsystem on your hermes which handles the GSM communication part of the device.
You have radio 1.05 which has radio bootloader 0106 (very old). If you upgrade to a radio with radio bootloader 0108 you will not be able to flash back your original radio, you'll get a No-GSM error which will make your device a brick unless you have HardSPL on it. You can safely upgrade to radios with radio bootloader 0107 and then go back to your original radio without problems.
Well Ive just read the wiki upgrading for begginers guide as well as the "common upgrading problems". ...and im very panicky about doing the upgrade. (even should I do everything by the book it could still be a brick from what I read).

Well, if you flash Olipro's Hard SPL you are more protected from a bad flash than if you don't. But yes, flashing unofficial roms always has the potential to "brick" your device, and your carrier will make you pay for repair or replacement if they detect that you have non-standard components flashed into your phone.
If you follow all the instructions and solutions provided here by the knowledgeable ones you will most likely not have any problems. If you skip steps or don't heed their advice you could end up with an expensive paper weight.
if you're not yet comfortable upgrading, read some more and ask some more questions. don't rush it.
ask more questions?? I was fired down by my initial post (by some!), how dare I ask any more questions?
You will be fired down again if you prove in your post you have not read the basics... you'll not be fired down if your post shows you've already read something and know what you're talking about. The forums are here for asking, so don't be afraid if you have read, searched and don't find the answers to your question.
OK thanks POF., ii accept that.
Well, I think im sticking with WM5. its just too riscky the thought of having a brick when I have a house made of them already.
Al
Just to let you know, I was pretty hesitant to upgrade for a while there as well. I had the stock HTC 7/22/06 ROM on my phone, and I was getting tired of having to reboot it every day or two after it wouldn't turn on or would lock up.
I upgraded to Black 2.0 Cingular edition 2 days ago (I'm on Cingular). I followed the directions posted on this website: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=26
I flashed to HardSPL, no problem, by downloading the files he indicated and following instructions to the letter.
Then I proceeded to upgrade radio, and had an odd thing happen - the upgrade program did not recognize the SPL that I had put it - so I forced HardSPL for both radio and ROM upgrades (separate steps) and it worked fine.
Now my device seems very stable, radio reception is good, battery life is good, and it's relatively speedy, but I admit I haven't had a week or two yet to really see how it works over time. The speed difference from WM5 to WM6 is not quite so amazing ... menus go a little faster, reading from directories is faster, but reading emails in the new HTML email reader is actually a little slower, and the calendar has a new time-bar overview that makes it just a touch slower. The new version of Pocket Informant runs great thought, and pretty speedy.
Rom Version: Pro Black 2.0
Rom Date 1/4/07
Radio Version: 1.40.30.00
Protocol Version: 32.73.7020.16H
The more you read and understand the more comfortable you will feel with the process.
Yes, there are horror stories in these threads but the vast majority are the result of people flashing a rom without doing their homework first.
Read the threads on the various roms and see what the people who have already flashed are saying. Study the guides and understand everything that is talked about in them.
There are no guarantees in this hobby, but the cooks turn out some very reliable roms and the the guides are very well written and easy to follow.
The folks here are very helpful if you have tried to help yourself first. The "venting" that sometimes occurs is because it gets tiring to read the same basic questions day in and day out when those questions have already been answered dozens of times.
If you do have a problem, and your question shows that you have done things right and have already tried to solve it yourself, and you provide good information about the problem then the folks here will gladly assist you in trying to solve it.

If you depend on the phone, like for work or personal communications, and can't stand to be without it, I strongly recommend you stick with the ROM's your carrier puts out. WM6 is still iffy -- it's not really ready for prime time on the Hermes/TyTN's yet. It works, mostly, but there are still some really weird things that will occasionally happen.
Most carriers will be putting WM6 out within the next few months; if you can wait for stable carrier tested and supported software...
Otherwise, welcome. Follow the instructions, step by step, focus on HardSPL first. Oh, and a helpful hint -- don't let anyone near your phone while it's flashing. If that USB cable falls out, you can toast your phone (I learned this the expensive way).

LOL....fair enough!
The reason we get a bit touchy on here when these sorts of questions have been asked is because alot of this information has been made readily available by pof, olipro, walshy etc.... (you know who you are!) yet some users decide to not bother reading it then come back moaning when they brick thier device!!
Its most likely you will go without bricking your device if you dont steam into flashing when you havent quite read up and understood everything yet
My guides are there to help you through upgrading a ROM successfully however what I would suggest is that you DEFINATLY follow THIS GUIDE to flash olipros Modified bootloader (HardSPL) to your device, this is the first step to safeguarding your Hermes against a dodgy flash and will quite easily save you from sending the device back if there is a problem. You can do this without worrying as it is a simple procedure if you follow the guide exactly.
The next step could be to upgrade your Radio version which again is described in THIS GUIDE. Once you have done those give your device a test for a few days and see if it has improved at all (your GSM/3G reception SHOULD be better and more stable with the new radio).
The ROM you are running is quite a dated one, since HTC hasnt released any roms (officially ) but there are some upgrade options aailable to you that dont involve going all the way to WM6. Id recommend reading through the guides and following the threads mentioned, give them two upgrade stages a shot (do them in the order i specify though) and you should be on your way to earning your first flashing badge

Flash Hard-SPL... the only way you will then be able to brick your phone then is if you flash a new radio and somehow time it to pull out the cable when the Radio BL updates.

Lets just say..its not that hard to upgrade your device..but you need all the info/wisdom you can get.. so..read first (WIKI WIKI WIKI WIKI WIKI WIKI) and than ask..
And welcome!
Thanks everyone for your support. THink someone said if I use it for busines (which I do) then I ought to stick with the phone as it is. I know I can read up but, to me, SPL is a dodgy, talentless football league in Scotland. Nuff said.
Village Idiot signing out.
First, I am sorry if I am creating this thread in the wrong forum.
I just got my Rogers branded HTC TyTN!!!! The first thing I would like to do is upgrade to WM6. I flashed my Moto V3, but that has been my only experience modding a phone to date. I realize the Rom Archive has been taken down, but I am still hoping to get help here.
I have a friend who bought a Cingular 8525 off eBay, and he used this software update obtained direct from HTC. Can I use this?
http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html
I would rather use an unbranded ROM if opossible, but I haven't had much luck hunting them down on public torrent trackers, or any other p2p programs.
I know I am a relative newb, so I hope you guys can be patiant with me.
Thanks in advance to all those who help!
SEARCH THE FORUM!!!!!!!! My GOD WASTE OF SPACE!!!!!
I wouldnt suggest using an official update not made for your particular device.. you would be better off finding a custom rom that works with ur TyTn.

I lead with an apology.
I spent all night searching the forums, and didn't find what I'm looking for.
If you really want to help, link me to a relevant thread.
ok first off, swearing isnt going to help you in this thread sir.
Secondly I suggest taking a look at 'The Hermes Guide', by reading the announcement on the top of EVERY hermes forum (read this before posting) you would have found the thread about my guides, also you would have found all the info you need in the wiki.
By starting a new thread you have shown us you didnt follow these small steps and have tried to jump in 'at the deep end'. ok first off, swearing isnt going to help you in this thread sir.
Thanks for your response.
For what it's worth, I did spend a signifigant amount of time in the wiki, and didn't find what I was looking for. I will look again this evening.
I apologise for swearing, but I really can't stand these guys who wait for the first opportunity to post a "search function" response with the typical condecending attitude.
Likewise, I'm sure they can't stand me.
Thanks again for your assistance.

I just got my Rogers branded HTC TyTN!!!! The first thing I would like to do is upgrade to WM6. I flashed my Moto V3, but that has been my only experience modding a phone to date. I realize the Rom Archive has been taken down, but I am still hoping to get help here.
You're actually getting some excellent advice here:
Madcap180: I wouldnt suggest using an official update not made for your particular device.. you would be better off finding a custom rom that works with ur TyTn.
austinsnyc: SEARCH THE FORUM
With that said, I'd strongly advise you to first upgrade to your vendor's (Rogers) latest wm5 rom & get to know the device under those conditions. When you do upgrade to wm6, this wm5 Rogers knowledge/experience will help you. You'll have an idea of what your Tytn can do. remember, your Tytn is NOT a Cingular 8525. Roms for Tytn are different from 8525 in a few ways, but identical in many.
HTC will release an official wm6 rom in near future. Wait for that. It's my understanding that Rogers has not announced the Rogers wm6 upgrade will be available for their branded Tytn. It may happen..it may not. Meanwhile, a customized HTC Tytn wm6 from this forum will eventually be a great choice. However, cut your teeth on the Rogers wm5 latest & HTC wm6 when it arives. What you do after that will mean so much more.
OK, I have 1 question I cant find the answer to anywhere.
I have flashed HardSPL, then I launched the installer as per the instructions, then clicked Autodetect

This is when I get an error
Is this normal? I cant find this anywhere!
Caution recommended
If youve done everything explained in this guide "http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/" and you get that error do as it says. Worked for me, Still jumping in at the deep end is a bad idea. I would ask whats lacking from your current rom before upgrading o something you may not need.
(i'm guessing one of the roms on that link is what you're after)

If you have installed 2.10 olipro then pick SPL-2.02/2.10 New Bootloader.

Perfect Examples
MalibuBlue's thread seems to me a perfect example of what some of the Senior Members have long been advocating, that is, that if you don't like a question or feel it stupid, then ignore it--there's no requirement that one send negative/flaming replies. MalibuBlue could have done his homework better; Austinsync could have ignored his question (and that early question submitted from noobie austinsync was GREAT example of what it's like to be a noob!!); however, calmer heads prevailed, the best advice was given, Malibublue figured things out and is now less of a noob and more an experienced operator and will in all likelihood continue to learn and become a valuable contributor to the forum.
I still consider myself a noob although flashing ROMs is second nature now; eventually I want to put together a small section of info, gleaned from all the forum sources, that concisely and simply describes the first few steps a noob should do--written in straightforward English with the occasional reminder to READ, THINK, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, then READ SOME MORE; perhaps even use some PM's. My personal gratitude to those Senior Members/Mods who maintain a high standard and keep this forum enjoyable for everyone.
Hey guys, been struggling with rooting my x10i for weeks now and im about to smash it to the f-ing ground!
And yes i have been through most of the flashing and rooting methods and none have seemed to work!
First of all i had the 64-bit java issue and couldnt get it to work
so i used the "FlashToolRelease" version and it seemed to work.
It "flashed" my phone and installed a new firmware but i still couldnt root the phone with z4root..
Is anyone having the same issues?
Info:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: 2.0.49
Kernel: 2.6.29
2.0.2.A.0.24
Thanks for any help in advance!
Dude A.0.24 cannot be rooted by any known method at the moment.
Please chk and install the pre rooted update by z ;-)

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

....Seems I need to start a new thread afterall, as my questions in another appear to have been overlooked :crying:
First and foremost, as usual, I will apologise if my questions here now have already been addressed in another thread (my time is short and I don't have the time to wade through hundreds of threads, and I'm not quite sure what exactly to 'search' for regarding this, sorry, I'm new).
I have just purchased an Asus Eeeeeeeepad Transformer Prime TF201 (for a song) from eBay, It has stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware installed (I understand this is a good situation, yes?) Now, the issue I have is, when I first turned it on and connected to Wi-Fi via my router, it started to (automatically) download a new firmware. There was no notification of exactly what the firmware was, and I can only guess it was some version of JellyBean. After I'd got my head together (not an easy task), I disabled my Wi-Fi connection on my Prime, and obviously the (unknown) firmware stopped its download (at 23%), praise be to who/whatever is looking down on me from above <g>
Now, I understand from previous very helpful advice given to me in another thread, to be on the safe side,I need to make nvflash backups. Once I have read and am completely clear how to do that, that will be accomplished; but, in the meantime, IS it safe, wise and advisable or not, to attempt to root my Asus Prime, or will that interfere with making nvflash backups, if my tablet is rooted (installing Lucky Patcher is a MUST-have ASAP for me, as I'm sick of ads lol)? I want to be absolutely clear on this so I don't make some kind of balls-up, like ending up with a brick or being in a position where (after making these nvflash backups) I can't revert back to ICS from JellyBean if I feel the need at a later date.
I read somewhere there is an application called 'ViperMOD' that makes rooting relatively fast, easy and foolproof, Could one of you (learned) folk recommend this or is there a better, safer or more reliable way? Also, will someone please direct me to a 'working' link for the latest version of 'viperMOD PrimeTime', as all the links on the relevant thread here on XDA appear to be dead and invalid.
One last thing, that I've previously asked.....the 23% of the (version unknown) firmware that has stalled downloading on my Prime, how is it possible to cancel, delete or even resume it after I've made the nvflash backups and rooted the tablet?
That's about it for now (until I start asking questions about Cyanogen 10.2 <grin> ), and your educated answers and solutions are greatly appreciated.
1000 thanks before.....

I will reply just because of comfortably numb
You haven't gotten any answers because you wrote an essay and we have short attention spans.
Unlock bootloader.
Do NVFlash backups.
Install TWRP for ICS.
Upgrade bootloader to JB (there are instructions on how to do this in the Hairybean 2.2 thread in second post.)
Install CM10.2 which has root built in.
Anything else you want to know I will leave to others.

Sorry, I'm a writer, journalist and poet, so writing essays is my forte <g>
Nonononono.....and (in general) you were doing so well, flumpster...please continue, as there are still many of my (need-to-know) questions unanswered.
For instance (to add one more), now, about every 2 minutes, my Prime is throwing up a full screen asking me whether or not I want to install Jellybean or postpone it? Is there an way I can disable that notification until 'I'M' good and ready, and feel the want or need to upgrade to JB?
Is the "ASUS bootloader unlocker" 'really' 100% safe to use?

I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?"

Ok, no more essays......quick question.....Is it safe to root my (unlocked) Asus TF201 (running ICS 4.0.3) before I attempt to make NVflash backups and update it to Jellybean? Oh, and I still need a link to ViperMOD v4.6 please, as I only have version 4.5 here. Thanks in advance.
