Root help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am very new to android and really want to root my device or atleast get jelly bean, or something other than gingerbread
Hardware version - 1500.05
Model Number - SCH-I500
Firmware version - 2.3.5
Baseband version - S:i500.05 K.EI20
Kernel version - 2.6.35.7
Build number - SCH-I500.EI20

Your gonna be stuck. That version of Android is not even an official version. No kernel source for the device is ever released so no updates.

[Q] Version

Hey,
A few days ago I've bought the Galaxy S2 from Amazon and I have 2 questions:
1. If I enter the following code - *#2222# into the phone it'll tell me the rev version of the phone and it says my is REV1.2, whats the differences between the Rev's?
2. Is the latest official Baseband Version is I9100UHKG4 and latest Build number is GINGERBREAD.UHKG7 ?
Thanks for helpers
min is 1.4. but have no idea what's FTA HW Version means.
t says my is REV1.2, whats the differences between the Rev's?
Samsung do not issue change logs .
Is the latest official Baseband Version is I9100UHKG4 and latest Build number is GINGERBREAD.UHKG7 ?
PDA latest is KG7 Baseband latest KG6
Connect to Kies should tell you your firmware is up to date .
Thoughts and they are no more than thoughts .
One your hardware rev is very very early two KG7 on a brand new phone .

I didn't get the phone on KG7, got it on lower version, connected to Kies and it updated it to KG7, but why my Baseband is KG4 and Kies says I'm up-to-date?
Also I didn't understand is REV1.2 newer than REV1.4 or older?

Phone Info Menu

Hello,
I am wondering if the information on the phone info menu on my android phone is safe to share to people such as the;
Model Number
Android Version
Baseband Version
Kernel Version
Build Number
i know some of them are obvious that you can share them but i am wondering as i want to find out if my phone has been reverted back to how it was when i first bought it so i can get it fixed.
Thanks.
Hello,
I am wondering what files are left behind on my interal memory after reverting back to stock also when i reverted back to stock 2.2 does that wipe off Clockworkmod v4?
Finally- when i go to settings- phone info and scroll down- are my details what they should be for stock?
Model number: GT-I5500
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: I5500XWJP3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf, [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.XWJPJ
My phone comes up in KIES and says this is the latest version, like how it used to before i flashed.
Also is my phone okay to go for repairs as i think i have an extended warranty from my last repair.

[Q] Help to understand Kernel version and Build number

Hi,
I'd like to understand the difference between Kernel version and Build number.
I'm running an android phone and to root it I had to perform a few action on the device :
My current (final) Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 and Build number GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3. What is the relation between the Kernel and build numbers?
At first (out of the box), the phone came with something close to this :
gt-i9100
2.3.3
I9100BVKE2
2.6.35.7-I9100BVKE2-CL195878 [email protected] #2
Gingerbread.BVKE2
In order to root it, I had to find flash the device with a Kernel that would inlucde KE2 in its name. Why?
So the kernel would be CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4.zip
Now my phone says i'm running GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3 and Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513.
In my current system I'd like to know if it's ok BUKJ3 doesn't match in any letters with WKDD...

Build number is 3.11.605.22. Radios are the latest, you have installed the latest ICS leak firmware.

EmerikL, are you sure about that? I have the exact same baseband version and build number, and I have never installed the ICS leak firmware. I have installed CleanROM with the ICS old firmware patch.
To the OP, I think every ROM has a patch for old firmware nowadays. You should be able to run pretty much any ROM, you just need to know if you need to patch it first or not.
Doh, you are right.
Those are the radios for the OTA firmware. Thanks for pointing that out.
So, I am at 1.1?

1.1? I'm not sure about numbers. But you're on the latest GB OTA firmware (the last update that VZW has pushed out to Rezound phones). If you're flashing any ICS ROMs you'll need the "old firmware" patch that's available (basically changes mount points so the ROM can see the SD card properly).
Of course the rumor is that we'll see a new OTA firmware next week...

You are on what is commonly referred to in the dev section "Old firmware".
