Understanding where an app is saving data - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I've a app that publish me some technical ebooks. From android control panel I see that the app is consuming 170 mb, probably as I have few ebooks offline, but I do not find where those data are stored. Is there a way to see all files belongs to an application? or anyway an easy way to find where app data are stored?
I've already checked in sdcard but I didn't find anything interesting.
I'm using Android 5.0.1 on Galaxy Nexus 9
thanks

Best & most secure way to sync pc files?

Hi all!
I need a way to access my clients files on my phone. The files contain sensitive info so I need something that is secure.
I've installed dropbox and I'm impressed with the functionality, but I have since read that there are security concerns i.e. dropbox staff could (if they wanted to) access the information.
Any ideas of the best alternative method of doing this?
I've searched the app store but I thought I would ask you guys on your opinion regarding the security issues.
I'm assuming an ftp or remote to pc app might be the way to go?
It would help if the files could be checked in / out so avoid duplicate files.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Modifying Cache/Task Management To Keep App & Data in Memory

I'm looking for a solution to create an exception for an app and its cache from overall Android task management.
Similar modifications were possible in Windows Mobile using registry modifications. I've been searching around and can't find any solutions for Android.
For example: say I'm using a content-based app (browser, Slate, WSJ, etc.) and I want to be able to switch to another app without worrying I'll have to reload the content.
Has anyone found a way to apportion more memory to certain apps, to permanently apportion some memory, or the like?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

How deep can i go (with an App)

Hello,
I have a question not really related to rom development but I hope it is okay if I still ask it here.
My question is: "How deep can I go with an App inside the Android System".
Let me explain. For my thesis in university I need to develop a possibility on how to monitore the behavior of apps. Achieving this by altering the Android System itself is a bunch of work but not very complicated or new. So my Prof asked me if I could do this with just an App - my first thought was NO, but before telling him I thought that I could ask you guys/girls
Topic is on: Monitoring Apps with focus on
- Contacts access (does App xyz actually reads the telephone book and which data is read).
- Calendar (does App xyz reads the calendar)
- Internet Access (does App xyz sends data to a server - to which server - or does this app retrieves information from the internet).
... (... means -> the more ideas the better )
So what I'd like to know is: Does anyone of you has an idea how I could achieve such thing and/or can you tell me how deep I can go into the system with a simple app (doesn't matter if via API or direct IPC or ...)
Thank you very much
Would it matter if the app required root access? I'm sure with root access you could achieve your goal. Not sure if you could without root.

Hi a rooted phone is the second possibility - rooting and installing an app is still better then the need to setup with a complete new rom.
Do you have any ideas how I could do this with a rooted phone - i thought about writing some kind of a rootkit but somehow this don't seems to delight my Prof
There seems to be a whole class of software that already does exactly that for not rooted and rooted variations. Check market for any backup software, backup contacts/logs/SMS/apps with data external SD or send to cloud. Pretty much every option seems to be covered under that heading.
Something for you to check out anyway

IF you have an idea how you can achieve the above mentioned using a custom rom then you already know which features you will be overridding, in that case create an app that does all that and show's some graphs and features on screen. Just like busybox installer stuff.
just had to say this cause of the threads title...thats what she said!

[Q] Conduit Mobile Free Apps

I recently built a free app using mobile.conduit.com now i want to customize it. I've searched the forums HI/LOW
Ive used apk tools to decompile and build with my changes but nothing seems to work. I've also followed some threads about "signing" an application.
Their dev site is really generic and there isnt much info on any of their proprietary server API. I'm trying to do two things, clean up the intrusive code that is digging for personal information and other unnecessary phone controls AND use MetaMorph to theme the app I created but when I do either the app doesnt load thereafter.
Anyone know what local directory the app installs to? Or have any other suggestions?
I am also open to paying a developer for a proof of concept migrating a few thousand rows of Excel data into a functioning user friendly app. This project is for my company and they are looking at around a $1500 start up budget.
Thanks!

Data usage are stored in which location?

Hi all,
I need to know where each application "data usage" are monitored in android.
I am planning to test(hack) an application by having tie up with that application team.
For that I need this information,
I am able to see UI of each app usage in settings
Watsapp - 2mb
Hike - 5 mb etc
But I need the file where this information are stored.
And is there way to edit that file in rooted mobile.
Thanks in advance.
