I have a Galaxy Note SGh-I717 AT&T. I have it rooted and running CWM and Candy5. I recently put twrp on my recently acquired Gaalaxy Tab 2. I would like to put twrp on my Note. I have searched and have read for hours.
I need a twrp tar.md5 file for to install on my Note with Odin3. I have looked and can find tar files. The more I read about zip or img file conversion to tar.md5 conversion, the more confused I get. I am not a programmer but have experience as UNIX admin. I have been searcgubg for a while. What I find is all a couple years old.
Can anyone direct me to a current twrp tar.md5 for my AT&T Galaxy Note?

Just flash the twrp zip with your existing cwm recovery.

I was thinking of trying that. I had already put it into the boot loop a couple times.
I rebooted to CWM recovery and I loaded TWRP_UNOFFICIAL_quincyatt_2.8.3.0.zip. Took about 3 minutes. Worked great!
Now to do a backup and update to the latest Candy5 on my SGH-i717.

I have a retail galaxy tab 10.1 16gb and was wondering how do I flash the newest clockwork recovery touch .img? From what I understand we don't have access to fastboot and doing the method on terminal emulator doesn't work either. Is their another option to do it without having to go to rom manager and purchasing the touch recovery
You could tar it and flash the new tar with Odin. Also, you can find cwm in pershoot's blog and flash it with Odin, sans the "tar it" part.

Well koush finally released a new version so trying to get the touch version of it installed.
I'm using a CM9 ROM, it has ROM Manager included and I can flash cwm touch without problem and free of charge (cwm touch works well).
Anyway, I made a .tar.md5 from the recovery.img of cwm touch and tried to flash it via Odin, but Odin crashes when is doing the analysis of the file. If you want I can upload it, maybe it works for you (the error is non descriptive, so I don't know what's wrong).
I think you might have to rename the touch img to recovery.img but thats what was my next plan of action. I have Rom Manager premium and yet I don't find any way to select the img itself besides selecting I want to pay for it.

Do you mean for the .tar.md5 for Odin? Because i did.
Edit: Damn! I don't know what I did wrong, maybe the download was bad =/ but I tried again and now works fine for me. You can flash this with Odin: recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-p4wifi

I was only wondering if this was available since we can't flash recovery images on the opposite recovery. I have made a recovery image in TWRP but have not gone so far to not just flash CWM and make a recovery image that will serve as my new point zero. Just curious since I only saw flashable CWM.

the link you gave to TWRP recovery was exactly what i was looking for. In the TWRP website they have a flashable option for TWRP to use in whatever existing recovery you have, that is CWM for us. Under droidstyle's guide (there's the thread also in dev section too for CWM) there is also a link for flashable CWM so now im set.
Although you already found what you were looking for, you can also download/run the goo manager app, press menu->install open recovery script. That will install TWRP.

I was hoping this way would let me get out but Ive now lost any custom recovery while in paranoid android. So what i did was while in Jelly Beans rom is flash CWM recovery to then flash Paranoid. I then decided to go back to beans, and i tried to flash TWRP zip that i has to restore my recovery. That failed an i have no recovery. I only have android system recovery <3e>. I am currently trying the goo manager to get me back, but so far i dont think im doing it right ill keep trying.
...So with goo manager i cant flash back to beans, i cant flash CWM back on, and ive: installed open recovery script to to install the TWRP img file but it must not have worked, but i cant see anything to indicate not.
Ok so im am stuck with just the stock recovery. In goo manager it says the recovery was installed but if is reboot to recovery its just crappy old boring stock and if i try to flash anything from goo manager it just reboots to that same stock recovery. Anyone know how to get a custom recovery back?

The TWRP in goo manager is not the correct one for our phone. I did the same thing and ended up in the same position as you. I used the suckitverizon file from Adams thread and odined it back on to the phone. If was in that position now I would use the newly released tool kit.

Im downloading the toolkit now but in the meantime did you have to restart the whole process in the 3 step bootloader unlock or did you just start at flashing suckitverizon version 2 in odin? Im just wondering how safe that is.

No I did not have to start over. If I recall correctly, I put the suckit file in the pda box and hit start. You can read up on it in Adams main thread and I know there were a few other people in the same fix.

Toolkit saved my bacon. Many lessons learned. so if i want to restore an image in twrp say from paranoid then i use cwn to flash to a rom that plays nice with twrp then flash twrp back then recover in twrp. Now if i get stuck the toolkit has the correct twrp and cwm for the verizon note ii.
spoke too soon i though at least getting cwm was all good. However the toolkit wont install TWRP which is what i have my backups made on. i followed all the step on screen and selected sch-i605 to be flashed in odin. I can only reboot into stock recovery afterwards. :crying:

ok it all over. CWM can be had by flashing zip in twrp or through tool kit. twrp i only regained by odining again the suckitverizon from Adam's unlockbootloader thread.
Hi everyone,
today I soft bricked my Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M (Telus). I was able to get CWM recovery to work but it is an older version, and I cannot mount the usb storage. Fortunately, I am able to get in download mode and install things through odin. I have looked for an odin flashable verion of CWM 6 in order to be able to install Cyanogen 10 but without success. I have also tried to generate the required tar.md5 file but I get "tar: value {someNumbers} out of gid_t range"
I don't know what to do any more. Could anyone provide a odin flashable version of CWM 6+?

Our phones cant flash with flashify, rom manger,flash tools any of them the only way is .tar for odin or .zip for cwm recovery which I have cwm installed thats why im trying to get some one to convert the recovery.img file to recovery flashable zip

I used every one of these and had to flash with odin to get recovery back coming from stock recovery and swiping from twrp to cwm after posting this I tried using rom installer as will if one of yall will can you try to flash cwm touch img with flashify

Yeah thats for the Samsung galaxy ace ive looked everywhere thats why im asking if some one who has the knowledge to transfer a .img to a flashable would do it for our committee I would I just know how and my computer is down at the moment

OK give me a couple of minutes, I will try a couple different ways if it crashes no problem I have everything backed up to ext sd card.

Ok thank you so much for putting in the work
First I downloaded Flashify app, did you know the app comes with twrp, cwm 6.0.4.6 touch, and Philz. Tried all three the device boot looped trying to boot into all the recoveries. Had to pull the battery, and start over. Next I tried to the to recoveries I made with Flashify same result. Then I tried to flash PhilZ 6.12.9 hltespr .tar and the original copy of cwm 6.0.4.6 touch .img with Flashify no go. I figured maybe Flashify is the problem, so I used odin on my PC and tried the two recoveries I made, and got the same result, a boot loop on trying to boot into recovery mode. Odin doesn't recognize the cwm 6.0.4.6 touch .img. But I don't think that is the problem, even though the download says its for sprint note 3 its not compatible. I'm running NC5 stock rooted, with Philz CWM 6.12.9 hltespr which has been bulletproof, maybe cwm 6.0.4.6 touch is out dated, most of the posts on the site appear to be from last year ?

I give philz cwm a try.yeah I knew them programs would not work I tried them all thankfuly I tried them when my computer was still working thats why I posted here im running regular cwm 6.0.4.6 right now so I dont see why the touch of the same version would not work Im also runing nh7 baseband/modem and firmware on sacs moar s5 port 4.4.2

picked it up on Zedomax's site. I flashed it with odin works perfect, and it is full touch with menu keys on the bottom, so you don't use the device keys. You should be able to use mobile odin to install. It's the next version after 6.0.4.6 I think ?

It seems from my limited knowledge and research that the best way to do this would be to flash CWM recovery. The problem is, when I download the CWM recovery for my phone from the clockworkmod ROM Manager page, I can't seem to find a tar.md5 file after unzipping, to use to flash using ODIN. Am I missing something here?

I dont know clearly but clockworkmod ROM manager app includes ROM's not recovery file. If you search your devices forum you can find CWM file which you need to flash from ODIN.

I wasn't referring to the app. CWM's Rom Manager section of their website has a section for CWM recovery files, but none seemed to contain the tar.md5 file I needed. Luckily, I stumbled across one in one of the threads here which worked. XDA is great!
