Hello,
I have a problem where tethering will not work on my phone. Connected devices will not receive an IP address and will instead use a self-assign IP address (169.x.x.x). This was tested with WIFI and USB.
With WIFI tethering active, I confirmed the WIFI IP address on my phone is 192.168.43.1. On a connected device, manually setting the network settings with that as the gateway address works.
Other information:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500)
Android version: 5.0.1
Kernel: 3.4.5-3943544
ROM: Prism Barebone v14.6
Bootloader: I9500XXUHOA7
Baseband: I9500XXUHOA7
Notes:
- This is the first time I tried using tethering since flashing this ROM.
- I have not receive any response to the question on the ROM's thread.
- There is one other person on the thread with a tethering problem, but is seems to be unrelated.
I noticed v15 of the ROM was released, but I'm posting this for 3 reasons:
- Mobile data is expensive here, so I cannot download the new version now.
- I don't know whether the new version will actually fix this on my phone.
- I couldn't really find any valuable information about this, so it will save someone from having to ask this in the future (if they research first).
Thanks
Ok, so I assume this is really not a common problem?
I did a clean install of Prism Barebone v15 and updated the bootloader to XXUHOB8. It is still not working.

I've been using the excellent CM7 ROM from mik_os (currently on 6.3beta).
I'm unable to enable call waiting. going to ( Menu - Settings - Call Settings - Additional Setting ) screen shows an error as below
Call Settings Error - Network or SIM Card error
logcat doesn't show any additional information / errors.
I did have call waiting enabled / working with the stock ROM with same provider.
I would appreciate any help / direction to resolve this issue.
Info on current setup
* P500
* Mod Build Number: GENGERBREAD.eng.mik.20110502.231400

I am having the same problem although my carrier is Vodafone and I'm using mik_OS 6.5.2

I'm not sure about XDA's rules regarding revival os very very old threads, so I'm going to answer your post anyway.
I assume you said you're having the same problem running CyanogenMod, right? (otherwise, I can't help you)
Starting from this point, CyanogenMod has fixed this on the recent nightly releases but, since your phone currently doesn't have nightly builds (I think because they're mainly for newer devices on CyanogenMod), you'll have to wait for the next semi-stable or stable release (Release Candidate or Final build) to have it fixed.
Here are the fixes from January 13:

What ICS roms meet the following conditions?
confirmed working vpn support with tun.ko compiled & built in so that vpnc, openvpn and the like will work.
Working encryption.
I've tried the stock Samsung ROM with Chainfire's rooted kernel, as well as Spike's Pure 7.1 & Resurrection Remix 1.0. The encryption works on all three but the VPN doesn't.
I've already tried HellcatDroid's full device encryption app but I ran into two problems. Battery life (I blame GB, not HellCarDroid's app) and it would periodically tell me it had received a decrypt command from the exchange server. I've talked with the SysAdmin & he's assured me that that's not coming from the server, but that's what was happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Half the answer
Answer to part 1 of my question is on the Tun.ko Installer page.

Hello
I'm trying to use wifi tether on my SE Xperia Neo V with Suave kernel and Ultimate HD 3.0.2.
Once setup is done and hotspot activated, I can connect my laptop and tablet to the wifi but there's no internet connection.
I've tried various combination of kernel and custom ROM (all based on sony's ROM) but ended up with the same result.
However, it did work with Cyanogenmod back when I was using it.
So, I'm guessing it might be because of sony's ROM, could anyone confirm that ?
Is there a fix ?
Does anyone managed to make it work ? with what kernel and what ROM ?
Any help would be appreciated.
thx
Also, it works on Cyanogenmod Nightly 10...

Yes, as far as I remember. But I then changed for cyanogenmod, then to another provider that didn't support tethering.
I just noticed that now that I changed for another provider...
anyone ?!

Yes, you'll get your 10 posts...
OK, I've tested many ROMs and none of the Sony .587 based ROM worked (the roms are working but not the tethering). Not with wifi nor bluetooth.
I've tried many things and only cyanogenmod works on that departement.
It has to be system related because all the apps I've tried (barnacle and such) didn't work either and some even caused the phone to reboot.
Also barnacle says WIFI: could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Device ore resource busy
anyone ?
OK, I've found a solution.
After many tests and research, it seems to be specific to SFR french carrier and android 4.X (no wonder it was working for nearly everybody but me...).
The thread with the answer is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544063
Now, it needs to be done once the hotspot is activated and it will keep working as long as you don't reboot your device.
Would there be a way to "integrate" that in the ROM to make it automatique somehow ?
Anyone ?
Ok, anyone knows how to make the iptables parameters permanent in android ?
Last month I'm trying to build my own CM12 for GT-I9060 Samsung Grand Neo device. I have built it successfully (with pawitp i9082 compat patches) and flashed it to my device. Everything seems to work great, Wifi, camera, etc. Baseband version was recognized too, and I got my signal. However I didn't get any mobile data, even if I change the APN type. Another problem was during the call I didn't get any sound at all. There must be something wrong with incall audio, but I don't know how to fix it. Can someone guide me which file or how do I fix it?

Hi everbody...
well, i'm new here... so: my name is banana - had long time my loving nokia n900... was the perfect phone for me - hw-keyboard and FOSS; developing glogarchive and so on...
later switch to android: galaxy nexus, lg g2 - all rooted, ok... but no keyboard...
so now, i got the blackberry keyone. not rootable, but ok, disabling all gapps, f-droid and grab some AOSP apks from lineageos - the keyboard is great!
i'm the developer of net.bananenfisch.connectionlist - there i saw "unknown"(???) connections every time... i figured out, that they starts, when i start the mobile-data-connection.... and stay until reboot...
the proc-fs show the state "8A" for this connections, which are undocumented at the linux-kernel. there are 13 states documented...
Here is a screenshot: bananenfisch.net/code/screenshot_8A.png
android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/android-3.18/include/net/tcp_states.h (running kernel 3.18 on keyone)
kernel.org/doc/Documentation/networking/proc_net_tcp.txt
i was not able to find ANYTHING about state "8A"; cannot run wireshark via WLAN, because it's related to mobile-data; cannot tcpdump, because so root on BB...
does anybody have an idea, what this could be?! where can i find a document?!
thank you very much!
banana
