Samsung Galaxy S3 T-Mobile Wont power on - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
My sister has a galaxy s3 from t-mobile and she was having issues with the battery dying and the phone wouldn't power on here and there. I made her go into recovery and wipe the cache. The phone powered on and then a couple of hours later it wouldn't start.
When I plug the charger in with the battery the charger light doesn't go on and the phone doesn't start.
When I plug in the charger without the battery installed the red charging light goes on but the phone doesn't power on and then the red charging light goes out. My PC installed some drivers when I plugged it in but I don't see the phone in My Computer.
I tried to go into recovery and download mode with no luck.
My main objective is to retrieve the data on the phone (family photos). Is there any possible way I can do this?
Your help is greatly appreciated! (Theses photos are important)
Ok so I ran Odin and connected the phone and it is showing that 0:[COM5] is detected or it's highlighted yellow. Does this mean anything? The phone charging light still goes off after a minute and the Odin says the device was removed.

Try a usb jig and new battery, else a repair centre.

I tried a friends battery and it still won't power on.
If I do the USB Jig; from what I understand that will put the phone in download mode. Is there a way to recover data from the phone if it is in download mode?
Thanks for response. I really appreciate it!

No, you can't access data in download mode.

Thanks boom. Do you know of any service that I can use online that can recover the data?

I'm sorry but no, the data is probably unrecoverable -the internal data is not the place to store precious photos.

When you plug it on computer did you sea it installing usb drivers or there is a sound or something like that ??

Yes it does make the noise and it installed some drivers.
These are the screenshots of the Driver that was installed and what Odin shows when I plug the phone in.
Thank you for trying to help me. I really appreciate it!

Bricked Vibrant

Hi everyone, i need ur help please. I have a t-mobile vibrant (sgh-t959). I tried the CM on it. After installing the su kernel, it bricked. Now it keeps rebooting with the samsung galaxy s gt-I9000 screen (the vibrant screen no longer comes up). I can't even get to download mode by pressing vol up + vol down + pwr buttons. Please help me. I m kinda desperate ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836815&page=6
Although I didn't have the exact same problem, I had a very similar problem. The above link will give you more details about the problem I was having and how I solved it (thanks to click1's suggestion).
I could not get into download mode no matter what sequence of keys I pressed and my phone hanged on the "samsung vibrant" screen. IF your phone is detected by Odin or the computer when you plug it in (doesn't have to be in download mode and your computer doesn't have to be able to show you the usb drives - just as long as there is a confirmation that a usb was connected is enough), then Android SDK will help you force the phone into download mode.
If this doesn't work, your next bet is to physically make a JIG for it:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
From what I have read, this last one physically forces the phone to go into download mode by using the 5th pin on the MicroUSB key.
I know how you feel - I just got my fixed last night and my problem seemed very unique, I wish I could offer more help but I hope these will work for you.
Thank you very much. It finally came back to life. Feel so much better now!
downnload mode, I hold both volume buttons in and connect the usb and it I get into download mode everytime

No problem, I'm glad that solved your problem. I'll see if I can put this solution on the Noob guide so others can see it easily before they resort to making a JIG.

the newer vibrants are hardware locked so you can't get into download mode that way. This is why you have to use the SDK to do it.

Yes, make it or buy one. I know who sells them for a VERY reasonable price. If you're interested Pm me for more info.
okay found a solution for now, my issue was related to ROM manager with the SD card, kept getting wrong MD5 Sum!! Really pissed me off about this since I was running through ODIN correctly,
Solution...
Updated the rom with Eugene froyo!! This brought me out of boot looping and now I have a rom on my phone so I can go back to the basics of flashing I hope, I am going to give it a try to see what happens

No...being the noob that I am, I'm constantly finding new ways to brick my phone. So tonight, I bricked it with the phone to PC screen. ADB can't detect it and neither can odin. This is FIXABLE, I tried the method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771247
Method 3 worked for me. Even if you have a hardware locked phone, I think there is a method around this which involves taking the battery out and putting it back in but I don't remember where I read this in the forums....I know I did read it though, you have to search to find it. Try these before you resort to making the JIG.

Hello, i was trying to odin back to stock with my phone as i had done before many times. I think some how i checked re partition by mistake. Any way it didn't write. So then i unchecked but still didn't write stock rom. I disconnected the phone and then it was all bad from there. I got the phone and computer sign. So i tried a method of getting it recovery that had worked for me before witch was to remove battery plug phone into usb and hold up and down volume keys and put battery in. Please someone help!!!!!! With all the great developers onthis site i know someone can help or deliver the bad news that it's nothing i can do. Thanks in advance.....

you're only soft bricked, when i've used odin i've had repartion checked everytime and its worked fine (apart from a few freezes but its worked after)
try it by holding the vol buttoms with battery in and plugging usb in
if it doesnt work at first keep unplugging and replugging in and try different usb ports, it once took me 2 hours of doing that before it connected
and it can connect to odin from the phone ! pc screen so keep an eye on odin for it connecting

This is true - more than once I've had different crap interupt the process while ODINing, and ended up with that screen - but ODIN was able to see my phone, so I went through the process as if I had the regular download mode screen, and it worked fine.
thank you!!!!! you are the man. i opened odin up and kept battery in and held buttons and put in usb cable and it worked. no one ever mentioned that odin could see the phone without being in download mode before. i would kiss you if it wasn't for the you being a guy thing. lol

no prob, glad to help
just putting the usb in like that with the battery in only works for me, the other way of pushing the battery in doesnt
so try both ways if there's a next time, it might get moody and not want to work the way you normally do it
the phone ! pc screen's pretty much another version of download mode i think

Device wont boot

My phone was playing up recently thinking it was charging when it wasn't plugged in. Then one night I tried plugging it and and bang, ripped all the contacts off the inside of the micro USB.
Phone continued to work until the battery died. Now the phone wont turn on with a fresh battery... Any advice as to why? Or at least what I can do. I was running cm9 so I guess that counts out warranty?
Thanks

Greetings,
I'm having a similar issue - I was trying to root my wife's Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100G and now all I see is a yellow triangle w/ an exclamation mark...
Odin 3v1.85 (Android+SLP) does not recognize the device.
Neither can I boot to download mode or recovery mode.
I think I'm in deep trouble...
Any guidance is greatly appreciated,
Bermuda

If you can see an exclamation mark it means your phone is still alive.
Run odin 1.85 >>> boot your phone >> then connect it to your PC odin should recognize it wait for the com port to turn yellow.
Flash another firmware ur done.

Not necesarry i've soft bricked my phone before so I know as I did the same
Not necessarily. The NAND can still be stuffed/unfixable by the user & still boot to a warning triangle.
No download mode, no boot & no connectivity b/w phone & PC = stuffed phone & return to service centre or JTAG.

Do you have a USB JIG that you could use to try force your phone into download mode? If not, you can either make one (guide found on XDA), or else buy one off eBay for like £2. It's worth a shot.

Try this.
And in the future make sure anything you flash to that particular phone is meant for the i9100G, not the i9100.
Edit to add: if you can't get to download mode with the button combination, you'll of course need a jig as themadba suggests.

My S2 won't turn on

It turned off due to low battery, I plugged it in to charge, after 30' the screen flashed and showed "0% battery icon". Since then it won't turn on, it won't charge at all, I can't access download/recovery mode. Tried to jumpstart, nothing.
What can I do? What's the issue?
(tried another battery and another charger, still phone doesn't respond.)

Take the battery out...Hold the three button combo and put the battery in. Wait for it to boot.

Odin doesn't recognize phone in download mode + stuck recovery is not seandroid

Hi Guys,
I tried flashing twrp with ROM control but it went totally wrong..
I had cwmod and CardHDrom installed, but wanted to install the newer version of it.
Phone is in a bootloop with Recovery is not seandroid reforcing, so I can't get into recovery mode.
I also tried to boot it in safe mode but it keeps restarting and immediately with the notification recovery is not seandroid reforcing.
I tried to go in download mode and yes I installed the most recent drivers, but my pc won't recognize my phone..
My question: Since we don't have an external SD card, is it possible to use a usb stick ( with mini usb connector) and flash the rom + recovery on the usb, so i'll be able to boot my phone up with the USB stick (trough an OTG cable) and save my data ?
model: Samsung galaxy s6 edge 925f
Thanks in advance!

I have seen this happen a few times on here. And tbh im not sure how to fix it. If odin wont recognise it and you cant get in recovery theres not much you can do. Normally when this hapoens the phone is still picked up in odin. So when you plug it to odin in download mode odin is just blank and nothing happens at all? Dont say added or anything? Because it just needs recovery flashing. Have you tried adb?

I very much doubt it. You can try but honestly i dont think it will work. You would still need custom recovery to unstall the rom from sd card
Make sure you try other USB ports, as well as other cords. This happened on a note 5 I was working on. I was using the cord that came with the phone and Odin wouldn't recognize the phone. I tried a few different cords and found one that Odin liked.
