Hey, I am I'm bad need of getting away from a super laggy lollipop ROM I should never have installed on my poor 9100!
apologies in advance if there ae tonnes of threads on this but i did search and couldnt find relevant topics for 9100
Currently on cwm 6.0.5.1 and philz touch 6.8.5.9 for recovery/flashing zips etc.
I have never downgraded / flashed a ROM from lollipop back to kitkat so nervous of bricking my device.
When installing 4.4.4 kitkat rom can i boot into my formentioned recovery and follow the factory wipe and wipe davlik then flash the ROM zip, gapps zip, super su zip. wipe davlik and reboot??
Not sure if exiting lollipop ROM would Cause any issue doing it that way??
Thanks!

What standard ROM did you use? Did you do a wipe after you installed Clockwork?

General steps before flashing a new ROM.
1. Backup your present ROM just incase
1. Wipe data/ factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
4. Format /system (under mount)
5. Flash your desired Rom/zips
6. Fix permissions (under advanced)
Notes:
- If you are moving from from an AOSP ROM to Samsung (vice versa), perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading / downgrading from one android version to another e.g ICS to jellybean or 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, also perform all the steps above.
- If you are upgrading from a Samsung ROM to another wipe the same android version, you may skip step 1.
- if you are upgrading your Aosp/aokp Rom with another with the same android version e.g 4.0.4 Aosp to 4.0.4 aokp, you may also skip step 1.
*******Important******
If you are presently running a Samsung based 4.0.4 Rom that is using Samsung based kernel e.g CF-ROOT or stock kernel, please flash Siyah kernel before performing any of the above steps. You will end up with an unusable device if you don't adhere to this important information.

Based on the bold, you're in a bootloop. Try to wipe data/ factory reset, clear cache and dalvic in cwm recovery and it should work
Edit: and are you following the steps on the first post of the thread? The creator of the rom usually has step by step instructions on how to install the rom

darkside super wipe
can i just use darkside super wipe before installing a new rom is that good enough
I used to have the same problem too, the problem was with my kernel, if you can, go into download mode and flash stock ROM then root using siyah

Hi!
I need some help with understanding of flashing custom roms e.t.c.
If I have 4.3 ( latest official update ), is it possible that I upgrade to CM11 4.4? Or I just can flash roms wich are based on 4.3?
Dont get it!
Thank you for responding!
If you have custom recovery installed, then you can install Compatible ROMs for your device (such as CM 4.4). If you are running stock or another ROM, then by entering custom recovery and making Nandroid backup first, you can install the ROM. To install, read the post for ROM you want to make sure compatible/whats needed (like GApps, etc), download, backup current ROM if isssue happens (to save yourself), WIPE data/factory reset, WIPE cache/dalvik cache, install ROM/etc as directed via the ROM post page. As long as you can meet these, you can flash what you'd like.

Welcome, make sure you do your research though on flashing and the ROM in case there are issues with the ROM specifically (ex. Bluetooth not working, or something). Any one thing missing (didn't flash GApps, ROM problem, etc) can cause issue. If no issues or you can live around them if they exist, then good luck.
HI.
I've changed roms before countless times, but now I'm trying to install a 4.4.2 rom on my Galaxy S3, and I have some problems. The installation (flash) passes with no problems, but after that, the phone won't boot. It sticks on whatever the rom's boot animation is. I've tried to wipe data, cache, wipe dalvik after this but it's still not working. Before I flash every rom, I do a factory reset, wipe the dalvik cache, and format system. I've tried with 15+ 4.4.X roms, and these are some of them: CyanogenMod, OmniROM, SlimKat, AOKP, Pacman and so on. As I said, I've flashed roms before a lot of times, without any problem. Only 4.4+ roms wont work. I tried to change the recovery, still the same result. I flash gapps with every rom too. Any idea what can be causing the problem? I'm using the latest Clockwork recovery, Sorry for my bad english and thanks.

I've already done that every time. As I said - Its not my first time flashing roms on my device. I know how to fix the general errors. This is something unusual tho.
Hey
When it bootloops, have you tried to goto recovery and see what us the cwm version??
Also try re-flashing the ROM without wipes..

I just flashed EHNDROIX V (based on CynogenMod 4.4.2 KitKat) last night and it worked just fine.
Rooted the device with Odin, install TWRP from playstore, install TWRP recovery from TWRP, clean dalvik, clean data, clean cache, flash ROM and then flash Gapps (spesific Gapps for the ROM) and voila it worked right away.
Note:
You see, I am not using CWM but TWRP. I dunno if CWM is the one causing the problem.
Most of the weird flashing issues are due to the recovery used, you could also try the latest version of Philz recovery which has an option to wipe for new firmware.

Quote " Before I flash every rom, I do a factory reset, wipe the dalvik cache, and format system" You said nothing about formatting data that is why i suggested it! Next time please include all details on how you flashed the rom then It cuts down on useless post's like mine
Like everybody suggested try a different recovery ( latest one) which if you have flashed roms many times before you should have done anyway
Thanks guys, but I've already tried these things. CWM, TWRP and three other recoveries (not famous ones) haven't been able to help.

If a rom is stuck in a loop, I would go to recovery and wipe dalvik and wipe data then reboot into same rom. This has worked for me when I've been stuck after a flash.

Did you update your bootloader? When I flashed 4.4.2 from 4.4.1 on my s3, I had to update mine to get it to work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310 hope this helps.

So I have been rooting and customizing phones for a while now, but this one has me totally stumped.
Running A Sprint Note 3, I used auto root to root the phone. Using CWM recovery and both install fine.
These are the steps I took:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
format system
format data
format cache
reboot back into recovery and then install Sacs Rom from zip
It installs fine when it reboots it hangs on the Samsung splash screen
I have let it sit for hours and it does not move.
Any help and advice would be great.
First, we need to know which sacs rom 4.4 you are referring to there is more than one. Next we need to know what version of KitKat you are running. The first thing I would do is get fresh download of the sacs rom. To eliminate the possibility of a bad download the first time. Next pick another rom try and flash that one. Eliminate the possibility of a bad recovery install.
I run stock, rooted, KK 4.4.2 NC5 with Philz custom recovery, version 6.12.9
If you want a stock copy of NC5 here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 if you need a copy of the recovery here is the link https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hltespr/ to root I used SuperSu v 2.02 is the latest version here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 and from your post you already have Odin but I use version 1.85 here is the link http://www.downloadodin.info/download-odin-1-85
Remember, once you are at KK 4.4.2 NC5 the custom rom that you are going to install has to have a kernel that is compatible with NC5 and it's bootloader.
Thank you for caring, I tried to get a custom rom such as Cyanogenmod but, now everything is not compattible with the kernel i have installed. Thinking factory reset will bring me back to stock os and now im so confused. I have Cyanogenmod on my sd card and Gapps, should i try to install those? BTW my phone is rooted and has jeboo kernel.\
Thanks for the help guys.

Factory reset won't put back stock os. Did you do a factory reset, wipe cache partition, then install cyanogenmod? If you can't flash anything, update recovery by install philz recovery or a newer custom kernel.

Look at my website and go to the other flashable files page. Scroll down until you see the kernel flashing guide.
