I have a Verizon LG G3 running stock/rooted 4.4.2.
Today, for the 2nd time, I started receiving the unfortunately, the android.process.acore has stopped error It pretty much just constantly pops up, non stop.
Last time a few months back, I fixed it with a factory reset (annoying).
Today, it started again. I tried clearing contacts and contacts storage and google service framework, but none of that helped.
Wound up doing another factory reset.
This time, it was working fine until I added an exchange account to sync calendar and email and then I started getting the error again. I don't think that was the trigger though because of what else I figured out.
It appears as if I uninstall facebook, the error goes away. I tried uninstalling facebook, clearing contacts and contacts storage and then reinstalling, but it starts again once it gets reinstalled.
I've done this back and forth enough times now that it's clearly being caused by the facebook install. It starts as soon as I log into facebook after I install it.
I guess at least it's nice to know I can uninstall facebook and I'm good, but I want to use the facebook app still.
So now what?

throw fb in the trash, its the devil lol
there are a bunch of possibilities, i would start by looking for any apps you may have deleted or disabled. fb may be trying to use one and cant, thus the crash.
i found that suggestion, and more, here. wassnt specific to fb, but some of the fixes seem universal.

Actually from the link you posted a couple of people also said they uninstalled facebook and it fixed it.
I haven't changed the apps that I've got disabled in a very long time. I doubt facebook is looking for something else. I'm really stumped here. I install fb and the phone starts going crazy with these errors, uninstall and all is good.
There's got to be way to fix this.

did you add any new contacts around when it started? several articles point to a bad contact.
unfortunately the process android.acore has stopped
hi,
my lg g3 s gorilla glass and the digitizer got damaged, but there is no impact on the display, its clear.
this error starts poping up.
i changed the whole display set , its a duplicate one, not the original lg s.
still the error pops up.
i think the error arises because the software is detecting it as a duplicate.
but at the same time, its getting triggered by fb messenger and whatsapp.
i think its time to go for a cutom OS.

Hey guys I'm having trouble with the com.motorola.contacts force closing on me.
I recently ported the alien theme to the latest stock rom.
Now I'm getting that error and I'm not sure why I changed the contacts apk back to stock and it worked until I added my social networks and now it crashes again.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Maybe I need to change the setup apk back to stock also....trying to avoid that and yes I wiped the cache and all even factory rest via bootstrap
Thanks guys
You might have removed some of the other dependencies - such as the blur yahoo package, etc
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
the physical apk no everything is in its place only things I took out are the sprint apks
At first my text messaging would not vibrate alert me until I removed the moded apk and added the stock. I'm trying to figure why some stuff is flipping out and the rest aren't

I am having the EXACT same error with my contacts today and I have done nothing to phone except one click root and that has never caused me any problems with my contacts.

A heads up all. I found my problem. I installed the new Google+ 2.0 that is supposed to be for Ice Cream Sandwich. I just uninstalled it and my contacts work again.
Thanks it worked. Makes me think ics is gonna have integrated g+ support

This didn't work for me!
did you remove one of the social apps? " think it is "social sharing" that is needed to touch onto a contact while in messaging.
You having any luck over on your end Bro? Or still getting the FC's?
Ever figure this out? Mine happened after I tried moving the social apps out of the apps directory. Moved them back in and fixed permissions...same force close. Did a couple factory resets including internal storage and with the phone clean after that it still force closes! Not sure what else to try now.
Not to jack this thread, where can I find the old Google+ at? My phone was perfect until 2.0! Now I, like you, have problems with that Social Networking. 1. I cannot even add Google+ to it! 2. SPB 3d Shell sometimes freezes when I pass the panel with Social Networking on it.
The only thing different between this phone and replacement is Google+ and I can tell by the new red icon!

I had this happening to me and did the factory reset even through the stock recovery, but that didn't help. The only thing that worked to get it back was install the stock SBF. After that contacts worked again.
I was able to narrow done my problem to when I froze the Desk Home app in Titanium Backup. Then instantly I got the contacts force close error. Now it doesn't work again, even if I unfreeze the Desk Home app.
I will try again to see if I can reproduce the problem the way I did it.
I got this issue for a while after using Titanium Backup to "freeze" the Yahoo authenticator, and Yahoo Contacts on a stock (rooted) rom. After defrosting them the contacts came back. Props to Pete720 for the idea.
I deleted the yahoo and sprint apks and my contacts apk is fc how can i get them back
One friendly tip, next time use Titanitum Backup to Freeze the applications instead of deleting them. After a reboot they will appear invisible to the phone (not starting, not hogging any RAM) but for situations like this you can Unfreeze them to make them work again
Yahoo Contacts is not a dependency, Contacts work fine with frozen Yahoo Contacts. I tried tried freezing/unfreezing back and forth a bit and to me it seems like Motorola Contacts depends on all the Authenticator apk's, even if you don't use them. I only use Corporate Sync and Google Accounts but had to unfreeze all Authenticator apps to make the Contacts work again.
You will need all the com.motorola.blur.provider apk's. I don't know if I can help you since I have a Defy+ running 2.3.6 (there might be apk differences) but let me know if you don't find anything anywhere else and I could try to extract the apk's for you as a last resort
im getting forced closing on (com.motorola.phone),,,any idea what causes that
had that force close on phone issue b4... when i wasnt on a diff from ##data# and reset data profile fixed it just fine. when i had it happen on cm9 i just wipped phone 2 times and the format system thing and re installed rom and all was fixed.
So ever since I first rooted my phone I havent been receiving google+ notifications. When I was running stock, I got them just fine. Now I am running UnNamed and I dont get them. Ive put up with it for weeks now but Its really annoying and ive been searching everywhere for a fix. Anyone else have this problem?

rooting by itself has no bearing on any application data. i really have a desire to get this drilled into people's brains.
ROM and ROOT are 2 completely different things. everyone says, 'ever since i rooted.....' but actually they rooted THEN flashed a ROM....and they want to blame the act of rooting to be the cause of the problem..... i apologize, but its a pet peeve of mine that so many people have no effing clue what rooting actually is.
after you flashed the rom, did you go into your accounts section and verify that G+ is set to sync? by default it is off
Well im glad you got that rant out of your system. I never once thought that rooting it caused my notifications to stop. I was simply stating that they worked before, and now they dont.
Ok, when i first got the phone i didnt have sync on either and i still got the notifications. I just enabled it and had a friend send me a notification and still no luck.
Update: I have no idea why this was happening but i manually synced my google account again and now the notifications are working. this is really odd but im not complaining
if anyone else has this problem, try what i did
Update 2: so another thing it could be. i had the gmail app frozen with TB because i was tired of getting duplicate email notifications and now that i did the re sync, it unfroze the app. could be something there

like i said, its a pet peeve. when someone starts off by saying, it was working before i rooted....it indicates that they think the root somehow caused <insert random problem here>, or are just trying to somehow link the 2 items....this is because so many people have no idea what root actually consists of and what it does. they just think its the cool thing to do....
if you freeze gmail, im pretty sure a lot of stuff would stop working properly that ties directly to your gmail account.
Mine are dead since the update...
How can I fix them? Maybe using an older apk?
Thanks,
TD

Yes that is how they are set, as they were pre 1.8.2,and they used to work flawlessly. I also tried rebooting, and logging off and back on in both Facebook and Facebook messenger, still nothing
Got the same problem.I stopped getting notifications after the update.Only get them via google mail but super late.Reading the comments on the market it seems that its happening to many people.Guess its a hit and miss thing weather the update works or not. Some people are also uninstalling the update and going back to the previos version untill its fixed.

I went to http://www.apktops.com/ and downloaded v1.8.1, then I placed the apk into my phone via kies air, doesn't really matter in which folder. I went into application management, cleared data and cache (just to be safe), uninstalled facebook. Then I went to the folder where I placed the v1.8.1 apk, clicked on it, and installed it. I haven't received a pm yet, so I can't say yet if it did fix push notifications.
Still not working anymore.... I'm so mad at this....
I went back to 1.7.1...current versions are too buggy.
I tried everything, I
Cleared cache and data for Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Go Facebook Widget
Uninstalled those 3
Reinstalled Facebook only, different versions, v1.8.2, v1.8.1, v1.7.2. Tested with FB only, nothing
Reinstalled the latest Facebook Messenger, still nothing
Reinstalled the latest Go Facebook Widget, still nothing.
I'm out of ideas really...
PS: my mate with GS2 with official XILA2 (android 2.3.6) says that his galaxy's notifications are also dead, but he has them just fine on his Transformer tablet with honeycomb
Facebook app is pretty bad period tbh comparing it to the iphones . Sometimes randomly it would give me nasty wakelocks.
i heard ads are coming to it soon :-/ lol

Have you tried this?
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/11/how-to-enable-push-notifications-in.html
I just uninstalled it all together. will try an older apk.
I must say I got push notifications to work by logging into my facebook on my mums blackberry then logging off. Maybe thats whay I still get the notifications? Wish I could help mate but if you know someone with a blackberry then try the idea posted above
Yes I did that trick with the blackberry emulator like 4 months, ago, and it worked just fine till the last update. I've since tried to revert to an older facebook apk, and redo the blackberry simulator trick, but they still won't get back on
So...refresh interval slould be "never" and notifications "on", ok?
That's my options in facebook aplication. I deleted app data in setting, but still no push working.
If anybody have a solution, please help.
Thank you...
Updated to the firmware XXBLFB
Started Getting an error "process com.android.phone" has stopped working.
Have tried to factory reset my device 4 times now. Each time there is an error notification saying :"Unfortunately, Touchwiz home has stopped".
Also still getting the error "process com.android.phone" has stopped working when i get calls from specific contacts, not all.
Always occurs while restoring contacts, but the 1st 2 times I was using Mybackup pro, then tried using the vcf file I had created on my microSD and the last time tried using the Sandisk application.
WTF is wrong?! Royally pissed with this phone now man
Any Solutions?
P.S. Have not rooted the phone and wasn't planning to do so in the near future!
I have a similar issue with phone.process crashing. Here is what all I have tried after OTA
- Stop using Custom Ringtones ( Didnt work )
- Reset/Reformat the device completely ( Didnt work )
One thing that comes to my mind is that when I formatted the phone , I did have a longish conversation with a friend without anything crashing. This started to reoccur when I installed facebook contact sync ( to bring in contact photos ).
This closely aligns with the problem you are having with contacts not uploading. I have disabled the contact sync and removed all the pictures which were bought in by that application. I will wait to see if the issue re-occurs.
PS : can you change the tread name from Touchwiz Crashing to Phone.process crashing that would make it move visible.

Yep.. without contact photos ( imported via facebook ) . This seems to be running fine. Had couple of calls no issues.

The Error Message remains the same: "Process com.android.phone has stopped working"
I'm unable to replicate it by creating a new contact. I think the problem lies with Samsung Sync. Only specific contacts are creating problem. On my phone, these have a number of phone numbers attached. I just extracted some of them to another contact, and that works fine. It works without any issue even after replicating the entire information.
However, the old contact file seems to be the problem, I tried changing the numbers and then calling, it gives the same error. Maybe a caching issue?
Curiously, the same was working just fine before the upgrade.

I can confirm that the issue is only specific to where the display picture or ringtone is customized. I just went a day without having any issues.
When I sycned back using facebook contact sync again, the issue reoccurred.. hmm.. strange !
I'm unable to replicate the issue with any contact now.
I was earlier using Samsung Sync and now am using Google sync.
Adding custom photos and ringtones to the contacts has no effect now.
Haven't tried a facebook contact sync yet.. Will post the results.
Puzzling...
Hi Guys,
I had exactly the same problem, I was using the official Facebook sync and Facebook Contact Sync. I removed both completely and so far this seems to have sorted it out.
Contacts
I upgraded from an HTC Incredible and tried to import my contacts from my SD Card. Once I did that, all this started happening. I deleted all my contacts and reverted to what came in from Verizon's backup assistant utility (thank goodness for the Titanium Backup) and all is well now. Unistalling Facebook didn't make a difference. Something with the contacts seems to have been causing the crash.
I was facing the same problem for the past two days.
No amount of factory resets would solve the issue. So I came to the conclusion that something was wrong with the phone.apk in the firmware itself.
On a hunch, I flashed Criskelo's Disable-Increasing-Ring mod.

Is it possible to reinstal the same version of the original firmware again?
Hello All,
I'm pretty experienced with Android and flashing new software and all that, but I am at my wits end this time. Last week I installed a ROM on my Sprint HTC One M7 that had hangouts as the default SMS app. I hate hangouts, so I installed a third party app. I only ended up having that ROM installed for a day or two before flashing a new one, and suddenly I couldn't receive SMS. I tried tons of things before finally ending up running the RUU to flash back to stock. Since hangouts is in the stock ROM, as soon as it booted, all of my texts popped up right there in hangouts, where they had been being diverted the whole time, despite SMS being turned off in Hangouts.
This time, I updated Hangouts, toggled SMS on and then off again, but all of my incoming texts were still going to Hangouts and not appearing in my stock SMS app at all. Finally, I flashed an updated stock rooted ROM, and no matter what I try, I cannot get Hangouts to stop handling my incoming texts. This is absolutely infuriating, because as aforementioned, I'd rather lobotomize myself with a chopstick than use Hangouts. Has anyone else encountered this? Please help me!
Thanks!

Go into the application manager, find Hangouts, and clear defaults. If you don't use it for anything else, you can always disable/delete it.

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately this was one of the first things that I tried and it did not work. Hangouts currently has no defaults set and is disabled on my phone. There was a 48 hour period where Hangouts wasn't even installed on my phone but it was still handling incoming texts.

I agree! I wouldn't be here if I wasn't stumped. I had something similar happen with Google voice back on ICS when I had an SGS2, but eventually I was able to disable it. This time I am at a loss for real.

Duplicate installation, perhaps? I had this weird thing going on the other day where Titanium did an automatic restore after flashing a batch install of backups, and I had 2 iterations of Weather Bug (different versions). There have also been times where certain sideloaded apps had 2 iterations installed.
Try using a root file explorer and searching for for Hangouts. Maybe there's an .apk somewhere that still loads up even though it's not "installed" anymore.

Gonna check right now just to rule it out but I don't have high hopes since I did a full wipe before installing the Lollipop ROM that didn't contain Hangouts at all. I appreciate the continued suggestions though.

No Gapps packages, no batch restores? Maybe Google is doing it automatically when you first activate the phone. You're given the option to backup/restore your account, and if you do, the phone will start downloading apps that you had installed before.

Hmmmmm, that's one thing I did not think about, is using the Google restore feature when fresh installing. I did flash GAapps with the Lollipop Build but immediately disabled Hangouts. I wonder if maybe the setting isn't being applied "behind the scenes" when I flash a new ROM and allow Google to automatically restore settings. I'll have to play with this a bit. Thanks again.

That could be it. Installed, then disabled, then installed again automatically. If the restore is coming from a different source from Play Store, it's possible it's not making the same checks for existing installations, giving you a duplicate.

Man, I am really about to pull my hair out with this whole thing. I just installed a new ROM deleted Hangouts from system/app using root explorer after denying the auto-restore for Google and I still couldn't receive texts. Rebooted. Sent myself a few more test texts before re-installing hangouts and lo and behold, Hangouts had been receiving the texts even while not installed on any android device that I own. If Hangouts was a building, I would have looted it and burned it to the ground about an hour ago.

Yeah, I think I have managed to find some super strange bug or something, I don't know. Thanks anyway for your multiple attempts.
What phone/app are you sending the texts from?

Did you figure it out yet?
Did you check under the main settings for default sms app? Also your not using Google restore option are you?

I was wondering if you had any luck finding what causes all the text to go to hangouts. I can receive MMS through messenger but not SMS. I thought I was the only person with this annoying problem. I was about to order another device but there has to be a solution to this problem.

Dray,
I did eventually solve it, though the problem persisted even after RUU. It turns out that the issue was with Google Voice. I don't use Google Voice, but I flashed a ROM that had SMS turned on in Google Voice by default. When I flashed a new ROM, sms was still being handled by Google Voice despite neither Voice nor Hangouts being installed on my phone. You should go into settings in Google Voice and make sure sms is turned off. If the app is not installed on your phone, download it and make sure it is turned off anyway, because as aforementioned it was affecting my sms even though Google Voice wasn't even installed. This should solve it.
