kernel in zip format is not working - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm currently using LU200 and there is a problem when updating kernel:
1. I download kernel.zip for my phone and install it successful (this file contains: boot.img, ko file, update script)
2. However, when unzip and zip it again by using command "zip -r" --> I cant install this zip file (some errors occur)
I have checked checksum of those file, both of them are completely different (I see in many forum they use the same command "zip -r" to zip that file).
My question is: is there is tool for zip this kind of file? what is it?

[Q] Q: where is the md5 file

I`ve downloaded this rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1237495
and was running odin, but can`t find the md5 file
where did i go wrong??
Rune
you did not do anything wrong.
the developer packaged it as a zip file instead of a md5 or tar file.
it must be flashed through your sd card and CWM recovery method as a zip file.

[guide][ META-INF] Fix All status errors On all zip's

-This is An edited meta-inf can fix all status errors on all Zip's
-Are you having problem while flashing a zip?
If yes this is the perfect way to get it fixed follow all steps to fix your issue
-I make this threat originally for cm11 but then I downloaded a zip and it won't be flashed so I tried replacing the meta-inf folder and it works
-Method for all zip's:
1.extract the zip , and copy your updater scripts to this directory of my meta-inf. meta-inf/com/Google/android here
2.now but the meta-inf into the zip that you want to flash using Rar for android or winrar on PC
3.now recompile the zip with new meta-inf
4.now just follow the instructions of flashing the file
5.you are done now
-Method for cm11 rc13 update :
i tried flashing this update and I doesn't work I tried replacing the meta inf with the previous method but didn't work too so I created this new method only for cm11 rc13
-this update is a patch and it will work only on a clean rc12 update
If you get an error while verifying or any error after replacing the meta-inf this means that you need to reflash rc12 update without any wipes and then flash the rc13 update and it will work

-I am making this threat to help people having issues with cm11 installation
-so here I have uploaded a meta-inf folder witch will make any version of cm11 flash able via cwm 5/6/and philz touch and fix for all status errors
-Note: this meta-inf doesn't have any updater scripts you have to add the cm11 updater scripts by your self which can be founded on the directory /Meta-inf/com/Google/android/ on the ROM package
Just copy it to the same directory of my meta-inf and replace the meta-inf folder inside the package using winrar on PC or Rar on android and now just go to cwm 5/6 or philz touch and flash the update and voilla status errors gone this method is for all RCS from 1-12
-Method for rc13 update :this update is a patch and it will work only on rc12 update without any modification for the system files
If you get an error while verifying build.prop or any error after replacing the meta-inf this means that you need to reflash your ROM without any wipes just flash the ROM zip and then flash the rc13 update and it will work
Tested on:
-Galaxy ace cooper running rc12 and with Philz touch recovery
-Galaxy ace cooperve running rc12 with cwm 5 recovery
-Downloads:
Rar for android: http://www.apk4fun.com/apps/com.rarlab.rar/

Mecool KM8 P 2GB/16GB S912 Amlogic TV Box Android 7.1, TWRP Root Instructions Russian

Hi all recently purchased the Mecool KM8 P 2GB/16GB S912 Amlogic, updated the firmware to 7.1 but lost root access. I have managed to find some instructions on a Russian website to root the stock firmware but can't make head nor tale of it and don't want to brick the device.
The google translate version of the instructions reads as follows:
To get root 7 Androide did:
1.Nado SuperSu create a text file without an ending .txt textBOOTIMAGE = / dev / block / boot
2. Flash card throw Recovery for 7 Androyd created Fail SuperSu and SuperSU.zip (5,63 MB)
3. Boot into Recovery with USB there "Advanced" ==> "File Manager" find the file on a flash drive that put his name it .SuperSu in and copy it into the folder / system
3. Without leaving the Recovery go to "Set" and set SuperSU.zip (5,63 MB)
Can someone please help to decipher the above?
Here's the link to the instructions website. The downloads are pinned to the top of the page. Please let me know if you have any success...

1. Create a texfile with this content:
BOOTIMAGE = /dev/block/boot
If I am not mistaken then this file should be saved wit the name .SuperSU and no extension.
2. Copy this file and the Supersu.zip onto a SD with a working TWRP recovery.
3. The file .SuperSu is now to be copied into the system folder - it does not specify if the one from the box or the one from the recovery is used - I assume the one on the box. But needs to be tested to be sure.
4. Without ending the recovery session go back and install install SuperSu.
Thing is you need a recovery that works with Nougat to do any of this.
But then again translators suck and someone capable of reading russing could bring some light on it....
Managed to get it to work. Steps in common English are as follows:
To get root on Android 7.1:
1. Create a text file (eg in Notepad) and name it Supersu without an ending .txt with the folowing text BOOTIMAGE = / dev / block / boot
2. On a microsd card copy Recovery.img (TWRP 7), the created SuperSu file (from step 1) and SuperSU.zip (5.63 MB)
3. Insert the card into Boax and boot into Recovery.
4. Using theTWRP recovery got to Advanced" then "File Manager" find the created Supersu file (from step 1) and copy it into the folder / system.
5. Without leaving the Recovery go to "Install" and flash SuperSU.zip (5.63 MB) from the Microsd card
can you post the required Files here?
i dont understand russian so i dont know what they wrote on 4pda.ru
I have found all file and attached at end of the Post
1. decompress km8p.zip to the root of your TF-Card so you have 3 Files on the root of your TF-Card (.SuperSU, SuperSU.zip and recovery.img)
2. power off your KM8P
3. Press Reset and hold it
4. Power your Box on and hold Reset
5. If you see the TWRP-Logo you can stop press Reset
6. On the Screen accept write and modifying Systemfiles
7. go to Advanced" then "File Manager" copy .Supersu file from TF-Card in/ system of your Box
8. then go to "Install" and flash SuperSU.zip (5.63 MB) from the TF-Card
9. Reboot and now you have root installed

I think you uploaded the wrong file, as the zip file you uploaded only contain one file (km8p), which has no file extension (it is probably a .zip file).
However it is missing the other files you are talking about, so could you upload the right files?
Thanks for the effort!

I attached the TWRP for Android 7 here, if you still need it.
I have also started a thread on how to root with Magisk instead of supersu, as supersu wouldn't work for me.

How do I fix TWRP "Invalid zip format" error

I have a Samsung Tab 2 with TWRP 3.3 installed. I wanted to try out some old jellybean roms but they didnt support my device codename so i edited updater-script to fix the issue. I did the same thing a year ago using winrar to make it into a zip again and the edited rom flashed with no problems but now trying the same thing with winrar or 7-zip doesnt work and gives me the "Invalid Zip File Format" error. Any way to fix this?
You try to flash the ZIP-file via ADB Sideload option from TWRP's Advanced option?
If you are facing this TWRP invalid zip file format issue, then by unpacking and re-zipping these zip files could simply fix your issue instantly.

still doesnt work. then can i change my device codename so i dont have to edit updater-script?
Having the same problem here... fairly reputable zips Magisk and Flashify. Tried sideload and repakaging, no joy
I have the same problem in my Samsung J5 (2016).Model J510F.
I have the same problem "invalid zip file format" with Xperia Z2 and Resurrection Remix 10.
I found some possible help here. They recommend to unpack and repack the zip or install with ADB Sideload, too. Instructions for using ADB Sideload are also included.

Question What if I directly flash the zip file "DN2101_A15"?

So, I tried flashing it through Partition backer but it always should some error, I also placed it in the same folder as the platform-tools and extract zip of file but it does not work. I was thinking what would if I flashed it directly using ADB Sideload? What could go wrong?
