[Q] Android is having lag after factory reset. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I've factory reseted my Acer Liquid E2 a couple of times because space issues and suddenly it started lagging. I've noticed this in games like Real Racing3 (which never had lag before) and even while scrolling trough Facebook or Instagram. So, I've tried resetting it again and the lag is still there. I have the stock 4.2.2 rom.

You need to clear the cache after factory resetting.
It still contains cache from the older firmware (the original before you factory resetting it).

Well, I've tried to enter into recovery but everything was chinese. Is there another way to clear cache? (My device is not rooted)

Afraid not, but maybe there are some apps that will do it for you..
Can you send me a picture of the recovery screen. I can tell you which one you need to select.

Unfortunately, I can't take a picture of it because I have no other device. So isn't there anything else to do?

Can you try to use this app.

Looks like it's working, thank you!

So this problem really annoys me. when i want to take picture, the camera screen just has a big rectangle on the right side of the screen, but it still takes the full picture, when i want to take a screenshot, it still shows the full camera screen. I'll make a bad paint picture to show how it looks
So i know it looks bad, but i didnt have another phone to take a real picture, so i hope you understand what i mean. i think it happened after i flashed a new cam firmware gdff02 or after updating siyahkernel from 1.3.8 to 1.3.8a, which i have now 1.4.
Stupid question: wipe cache and dalvik cache done?
retrace your steps, revert to the original camera firmware and check, if it didn't help then do the same with the kernel. If it doesn't help, then you can already exclude those things.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I have tried the above mentioned fixes, but doesnt work. I have not done anything out of the ordinary with my phone but this problem appeared right about the time I rooted the phone. Other then rooting, I have not flashed anything. The problem is exactly as OP described
Does any one else have this issue? Any ideas on how to solve it? I have tried using someone elses titanium backup for camera app, but same results

I've tried wiping both cache and user data as well as delvic cache. Both didn't fix the issue. As a side note, my phone has also been freezing a lot (usually on startup) and I won't be able to do anything but soft reset it with the power button. Because of this, I have tried restore my phone to factory settings. The problem with the camera will go away. But once I restored all my user data/app data using Titanium the problem will come back. I have tried excluding the camera app from part being restored (so technically the app would be left stock right?) but the problem still comes back. Now I'm at a loss as to what to do....:crying::crying:
Addition: the problem only happens the first time that the camera app is loaded, but usually wont happen if i reboot the camera a second time. It will come back if I don't use the camera app for a while. What is the problem!?!??!?!

[Q] Wifi Crashing after Jelly Bean Update

Hello guys.
After spending several hours of search and review, I was unlucky to find the information I need. It could be my poor search skill, so my apologies if this is a repeated question.
My S2 is from Bell.
Today my Galaxy S2 got an update to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (I9100MUGMA5). First, it gave me SIM NETWORK LOCK issue. I did a research here, and found that it means the phone is LOCKED again. So I had to unlock it. (Did rooting first and locked with GalaxSim Unlock) Since then, everything seems to be okay and working fine with an exception of one problem.
When it attempts to connect to wifi, it crashes and reboot itself and it repeats several time until it's finally connected. I tried a few different things but it's got nothing to do with data on/off. It seems solely to be wifi problem.
I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue I have here.
Should I downgrade to ICS?
What have you tried exactly?

wifi-on/data-off
wifi-off/data-off

it crashes and reboot itself whenever the wifi is on regardless data is on/off
did you try any other wifi signals?
Could be a router conflict.
I assume you've already deleted that account and registered again right?

Yeah, I tried the wifi at work today, same issue.
I'm not sure if I deleted that account, but it usually didn't ask me to enter the password to login the wifi, it automatically connects when within the area. But now, it asks me to login everytime wifi is on.
Not sure if I answered your questions. Sorry, not an expert, but having a huge frustration. Thought this jelly bean would be awesome.... :crying:

Ok, wipe means factory reset I guess.
So at this point, what do need to do? Downgrade to ICS -> Wipe -> Jelly bean update again?

Spending more than half a day to figure out this issue, I don't even know what I'm doing here, so I reboot and wipe data/factory reset.
It went back to factory ICS 4.0.3. Good thing I did backup all data before I did that, so didn't really lose anything.
Now I'm thinking if I want to try Jelly bean again....
Your comment please. And Many thanks for your previous comments. I do appreciate it.

Yea, everything is back to normal (ICS 4.0.3) now. Wifi working okay.
Now, (since it's wiped and factory reset) I will probably update to JB again, see if it works properly this time.
The good thing is that, now I know that I can go back to the ICS in the worst case by wiping and factory reseting.

Lol, factory reset sets your current ROM's settings to default.
Remember when you flashed JB? You had to select language, google account and all that. Factory reset takes you to that instance.
FACTORY (ROM by Google) RESET (Settings back to default).
When I said reboot into recovery I meant Recovery mode, so you could get your JB ROM the way Google set it to work, no user configurations whatsoever, WiFi included

Problem resolved and here's what I did.
1. Downgrade to ICS using Odin.
2. Wipe and factory reset in recovery mode
3. Upgrade to JB using Kies.
There's tons of posts regarding downgrading to ICS. I just picked one and followed the instructions. It gave me an issue that the phone freezed at the booting logo (I guess it's called bricked??), so I just wiped and factory reset the phone that lead to the stock ICS.

[Q] Laggy i717 JB - Fix or ROM?

I tried CM a while back (WAY back, actually - pre-ICS) for the i717. It wasn't bad but after a while I went back to stock because for me it just 'felt' better. Hard to explain it other than that. In any case, I've been on full stock ever since and was happy with it.
Then Official JB comes out from the carrier and my phone is laggy as all hell and it's gotten to the point of royally pissing me off to the point that I'm considering my options.
My question is this: Do we know the cause of the lag? If so, is it fixable via custom kernel or something similar, or do I need to go to a whole separate ROM to get away from the problem (and are there any in particular that are recommended if that is the case)?

I don't recall, but if I had to venture a guess I'd say probably not. I followed the above thread to the 'slow 4.1.2' and disabled everything I could on that list and did a restart, not sure which one did the trick but now it's nice and speedy.Hoping it stays this quick and isn't just a factor of not a lot built up in memory yet. I'll try a factory reset if it bogs down again.
there could also be some existing apps that continue to run in the background.
you might either go into app manager and force close them and clear their cache individually
OR
maybe reboot phone every day or two. clearing any cache build up. kind of a preventative maintinence thing.
if you ventured new ROM, may I suggest Padawawn.
every phone is a bit different, but I have had the best results ever
4.2.2 ROMs perform better IMO. Good luck
™
i prefer stock as well and was also experiencing lag until i found the right setup for myphone. started out by debloating. then flashed phasekernel_jb.3 and use setcpu or whatever tuner app you prefer and set governor = fantasy/scheduler = sio/min = 384/max = 1728. all phones are different so you may need to try different settings to find what works for yours. i have not had any lag since.
Here is what worked for me. I had the same issue as you and posted it a while back. This also greatly increased my battery life. I suggest that if you are rooted go ahead and wipe the device - in fact do it twice! You will have to reinstall of you your apps but it got rid of all the lag and almost doubled my battery life.

I am ready to do the factory reset twice. My Note is rooted and have SuperSU. If I factory reset, wouldn't it remove SuperSU also but NOT TWRP?
If yes, can I just install the SuperSU zip from TWRP? No need to re-root?

It can be done by pressing at the same time Volume up and Power buttons until the display lights up, which is when you have to release Power button, while at the same time you should keep pressing the Volume Up button.
If you wish to keep your current ROM DON'T wipe system.

Whatsapp and Instagram not working after ICS update

Hello!
So, I updated my GT-P7500 yesterday to the ICS stock version. Since then I haven't been able to use whatsapp, nor instagram.
I've tried reinstalling both apps, to no avail. I've also performed a factory reset, to see if it would get the apps working again... everything else works fine on 3G.
By the way, I can't really test to see if those apps will work on wifi.

Uninstall both apps...
Boot to recovery and wipe cache... and then reboot..
Reinstall apps... if that doesn't work...
Uninstall the apps..
Then go into you're app manager and uninstall the playstore updates( do it on both the playstore apps listed.. if you have two )..Do not uninstall the apps themselves. Since it sounds like you're not rooted. This shouldn't be an issue, but I had to put it out there.. for you're safety..
After that..boot back to recovery and wipe cache... reboot..
Reinstall apps...... let me know what's up..

Hey Gil!
I've managed to solve the issue, so I will post here my solution. If anyone facing that problem step by this thread, he or she might have a chance solving it.
I had given up solving it, and downloaded CyanogenMod 10.1...
I did a factory reset on my tablet, and tried to flash the cm through cwm... For some reason it didn't work, it gave me an error.
Kinda pissed, I decided to try once more to solve my issue or give up and go for another rom, such as gambarou.
I re-flashed the stock ICS using odin.
Booted and voilà, everything worked!
Thanks for your help, Gil! =]

I had this problem a few times after uninstalling Android tweaker Pro. The bad news is that I had to go into recovery, which was kinda hard, and reinstall my rom. The good news is that you could try doing that without wiping anything, as long as it's the same rom that you already had installed.

You can install the same rom without losing data, that's just common sense, but you may have to clear cache if you get a bootloop.

Do you have any idea about why, or does it just never opens? Maybe it has something to do with your ROM (a bug?) You can choose to wait until whatever dev made your ROM updates, if you can open phone.apk you can see your contacts from there so it shouldn't be a problem, you can also try to re-install your rom and clear caches this time.
why don't you just make a back up of your contacts on google..... and then sync again when you install another ROM....... you won't loose any of your contact that way even in future........
