I just got a new S5 and it's running G900TUVU1CNK2. Can I root/install TWRP without tripping knox? Do I need to update to the latest firmware before flashing a Lollipop ROM?
Yes. Please read the general section.

And no, you don't need to update.
All your questions are answered in most of the stickied posts.

Installing TWRP WILL trip Knox. Any custom recovery will trip Knox. There are a couple of good threads (either in General or Q&A) that talk about upgrading to 5.0 and how to do it without tripping Knox.

hi i was wondering if i were to get a gs3 and use custom roms do i have to worry about losing service with sprint or do i have to update the baseband? if i do lose service can i fix the baseband or something? i'm asking this because i had a metro phone once and i flash it to another rom from another phone and i couldn't call or anything and i had to take it to metro and i paid $30 and i don't want that to happen to the gs3 that i want to get.

The only thing happening can be that with flashing another rom it might include a different radio/modem that might give you worse connection.
Nevertheless you can flash your region's specific radio separate (for that look in General stickies for the modem/radio collection).
WARNING
If you are on Sprint you are in the wrong section and you risk bricking your phone if you flash anything from the international i9300 forum

Hi,
I've got some problem with the mini USB port and I'd like to send send it to samsung for the warranty. I need to install a stock ROM but I can't do it with Odin.
Is it possible to flash a stock ROM with a .zip through CWM?
use mobile Odin. don't forget to reset the counter.
ps our phone uses micro usb, not mini
which counter are you talking about?
is there a free version of mobile odin? I can't find it

There is in XDA , search it inside forum.
The counter he talks about is Samsung bootloader count how many times of custom ROM has been flashed in order to kill your warranty, but relax, mobile Odin doesn't increase the count.
More info about this, search "triangle away "
But be careful with firmware you flash into the phone, because triangle away is still unable to reset count number in latest bootloader

Apologies if I'm hijacking this thread, but this problem is almost exactly the same as mine. The microUSB on my S3 is also broken and I need to unroot before I send it to Samsung, however I'm having real trouble with SuperSU. It keeps saying installation failed when I open the app and am prompted to update it and I can't get Triangle Away to work as it says it is not being given superuser permissions. I figure I need Triangle Away to unroot my phone so is there any way to rectify this?

Go to Google Play, dl and install the free version of Super User from Google Play. Perhaps your version is corrupted.

If successful with Super User dl from Google Play then do an xda search for Mobile Odin Lite v3.57. No need for USB port. BTW: Are you certain that you are rooted?

One other IMPORTANT thing: Before you use Mobile Odin, make certain that your model phone is supported, there is a list of supported phones, just search for it.

Here's where I found a good guide for newbies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675474
Read and fully understand all of it before you proceed and note all cautions!
Then go here for the Stock ROMs to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
Make certain you have the correct stock ROM for your country code.
Please take the time to read and do not proceed until you fully understand everything...it will save you countless headaches. My personal rule: "If You Don't Completely Understand It Then You're Not Ready To Do It."... works for me!

Hey Guys,
Hope you can help me, a friend asked me to root his Galaxy S3.
I did this using the Framaroot App and all was fine, but now SKY Go does not work on his device as Sky don't like rooted devices !!
He has now asked if i can unroot his device.
How can I remove superuser and the binaries so that the app will work?
Hope that someone can help.
Cheers
So have you unrooted the device yet? If not

Or go into settings in SuperSU, scroll down to the bottom and select Full Unroot (Cleanup for permanent unroot)

Dude,
Thanks for the advice, I have now managed to unroot the device.
Forgot about unroot option in superuser....What a noob..LOL
Thanks for your help
Its alright using superuser, but it depends how you rooted and what you want to achieve. Yes it removes root from the rom, but it will leave it with a custom recovery if you had one.
Thanks

Dude,
I rooted using Framaroot, but have not installed any recovery on the device at the moment.
The issue was with the Sky Go app which dont like rooted devices.
Might see if I can modify the apk so that it can run on rooted devices.
Thanks for the help .

Yeah... That's the main reason why I downgraded back to nc5. There aren't any roms based on nk1. Nc5 is a lot easier to do all the fun stuff on

You should downgrade back to nc5 and re-root with towelroot. There is a no wipe solution. Just flash it through Odin. Then install safestrap if you want to get flash happy with the TW roms in the development section

First this is in the wrong section this should be in either the Q&A or general and second if you just peeked at the Q&A section you would have seen this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/help/downgrade-t3337013

Also if you just want to unroot flash this in TWRP but why would you want to unroot anyways? It's not like OTAs don't work and also your system stays completely stock anyway. There is no upside to unrooting
I need this knowledge in case of warranty. By the way sorry for writing this topic in the wrong section.
