Is Xperia Mini Pro tv-out capable?, i know it does not have an hdmi port like Xperia Pro, but i've seen some AV Cables that claims to be compatible with Xperia Mini Pro....
Also ive saw a guy who claimed that usb tv out would be possible....
And if none of the possibilities are true, whats the best way to see xperia mini pro in a tv, i was thinking of streaming but that can be a little slow... and DLNA is only for watching pics, movies, and music...

The latest firmware 2.3.4 for all 2011 xperias is said to be tv-out compatible.

I tried it with a micro-jack to composite cable that came with my WDTV mediaplayer but that didn't work. Didn't even gave audio to the TV..

There doesn't appear to be anything in the Android menus that appear to activate this though....
I also want to know if our xperia mini are capable of doing TVout on HDMI or VGA. Even just for power point presentation. It would really be helpful.
I would love to use my mini as a media player and connect it to my tv in my bedroom. (320x480 is good enough on a old television)

Yes, but for unavailable hardware the service menu shows specific messages (not available, not installed,...). For HDMI, if I select ACTIVATE, it shows an additional screen to select resolution. It shows no data about the HDMI connection, but I guess it would, if I connected a canble...

I have few HD movies of resolution 720p stored on my neo v (unrooted)
Now what i have observed is that HDMI output does not seem like real or close to being HD video...I dont know why is it like that ? because the same video looks too good when i watch on laptop which unfortunately dont have hdmi output..
Is it because smartphones arent intended to output the real HD quality on HDTV..or is it that it will take few tweaks or few apps which will make it more like HD..
Contents i use are genuine HD of 720p files over the internet..
Players which i use on my xperia neo v is mx video player as well as power dvd 4.xx(latest version)
Is there any other player which will make some difference when i watch HD videos through HDMI cable..
And yes my tv is full HD so it does have the capability to output all real HD stuffs upto 1080p

The phone puts out its own maximum resolution via the hdmi cable. That means 480x854.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I really dont buy on this...as my tv shows that the output is 720p...and there is nowhere being written over the internet that it shows its own resolution...
Another reason why i dont think is because i do watch HD 720p movies..and there is nowhere screen being cut off on my HDTV...if it was showing on mobile resolution as the output is being recognised as 720p on my HDTV..!!

Why don't you just use your usb cable for watching movies? Does you TV support USB flash drives? Set your phone to MSC mode, and connect it the TV.

yes my tv supports USB drives..it works pretty well with pendrives on my HDTV..however it cannot play any HD files through USB on my HDTV..only divx files supported..
After being suggested by you i set my phone to MSC mode and connected but TV fails to recognise any USB device being connected
So how to overcome that..my phone is non-root does that have anything to do with it..?

My phone connects fine to the tv in MSC mode. Haven't tried movies, but browsing pictures works good. Is it a fairly new or an old TV?

yes you can say that if not much its been 2years old..belongs to LG LH60 series jazz theatre 32'
Picture on HDMI device must be same as on phone display (here is no windowsXP with super videochip with multidisplay support), therefore picture on FullHDTV is scaled 854x480

I was wondering the way to change the hdmi output resolution of my neo v device, and looking for the xda forums and the internet. Also, i was looking for the way to turn off the screen without the tv turn off too, because i have a USB OTG cable and a mouse, and i think that is a stupid thing getting turned on both screens.

The HDM output of POV Tegra, Viewpad 10s y Advent Vega is configurable, but not easily, it don't have a interface to do it. The olny way I know is through terminal or Gscript. These are the commands to change the resolution:

With my negative knowledge of programming, i understand that neo v have the first by default, and the second is a way to turn off the phone screen, when a tv is plugged in.

When I connect the supplied HDMI cable between my Xperia S and TV*, I get a notification that HDMI is connected. However, TV launcher doesn't start so I cannot see anything on the TV screen.
Is it possible that an app I have installed is interfering with TV launcher?

Do you select HDMI input on your TV or you just wait until it shows up on TV screen? If the second, bear in mind some TV (if not set) they won't go to HDMI automatically.

Yes, I ensure that I select the correct input. For example on my Toshiba I use HDMI 4 which I choose before connecting the phone. When I do this, the blue Toshiba screen turns to black which probably indicates that something is physically connected to that input, but nothing happens on the phone other than the notification. I did the same on an Asus TV/Monitor and TV launcher starts. On an LG monitor at work it says that it's out of range.

Check via liveware if the tv starter is assigned to the hdmi action ;-)
Did it work on a Sony TV?
Im not sure but it might only work on other Sony products.

Yes, it is. It does work OK on one TV.

I don't have a Sony TV to test it on. It has only worked for me on an Asus 24T1E TV/ Monitor.

My phone works fine with my sony bravia tv, i can operate almost everything with my tv remote except i cant input text like in google search...

The problem appears to be fixed with the ICS update.
My TV is a Samsung LE32C450E1WXXH with anynet+ CEC support and I had this problem. The best way is the update. This was helped me 'cause before the software uptade the TV doesnt recognise the remote control command to my Xperia P. But after that i turned on the Anynet+ and VOILAA that works!
I have Sony Bravia KDL-40D3500 TV and i am connecting my Xperia S using HDMI cable provided in the box

I have a Sony Kdl, dont think its the same as yours. For the remote to work the tv launcher app needs to be running, also in the tv options I found "enable hdmi control" or simlar, it then warns you that standby will use more elec. Once I enabled this the remote worked, I used hdmi 3 too on the side

It does work with my Panasonic TV. Like WasherUK says, need to enable hdmi control on your TV setup.
For Panasonic, it is called Vierra Link.
On my Sony KDL tv the option is
Home Button
Setup/Hdmi Set Up/Control For HDMI = On
Yes HDMI 3 was just the 3rd HDMI input on the TV meaning the HDMI control is not exclusive to HDMI input 1
There is an option on the XS too that needs to be checked about Remote Control.

One other thing I noticed today, when you run the TV launcher if you scroll the icons with your finger on the screen before using the tv remote then the remote wont work. I had to press the home tab on the phone to close tv launcher and re run it then dont touch the screen with your finger, try the tv remote first.
I had the same issue with my sony kdl.
The first thing i had to do was to update the tv firmware!
Then, what i did was to plug the xperia to the tv via hdmi and launch the tv app.
Then on the tv i've launched the "discover hdmi peripheals". The tv saw the phone and then i was able to use the remote to control the phone.
Ok I think I got few things to try on by the time I get home.
Also how to update tv firmware.
I would like to do that if it resolves everything.

tried almost everything but no luck
Here is the outcome:
My KDL40D3500 only has 2 HDMI sockets
On my remote (RM-ED009) I do not have any Home key.
I guess the MENU key is equivalent to that.
Menu-->Settings-->Set-up-->HDMI Setup contains following
HDMI Control ------------- ON
Auto Device Off ---------- ON
Auto TV On -------------- ON
Device List Update
HDMI Device List
there is nothin appeared in HDMI Device List even after doing Device List Update.
Second thing is as below:
Menu --> External Inputs --> HDMI Device Selection (greyed out when xperia is not connected)
When connected i select this option and it displays a list saying Player 1 (only in the list)
also sometimes player 1 and Player 2, which is same as the text appears on the left hand top corner of the TV.
Even i select, it says on the bottom right hand corner.
"Launching. Please wait."
then after couple of seconds
"Communication failed. please check your cable or connection."
Also i am surprise i cannot see any specific setting to BRAVIA as well.
The only thing left is to update the firmware of Sony KDL, but i dont know how to do that. looking on internet for this, if anyone knows how to update it ?
On xperia option about remote control is checked.

When I connect my phone to the tv the tv says "Cell Phone" does yours?
Dont forget once you run the tv launcher (the screen with a few apps along the bottom and music player at the top not your normal phone home screen) dont touch the screen again, it seems you can either use the remote or your finger not both. If you use your finger you have to repeat the connection process without touching the screen for the remote to work.

btw my phone also developed "yellow tint" on screen if used intensively for about 5-10 mins

Same here. I have a KLV-37NL14A and I can not control the XS using the remote control. The TV does not recognize the XS when I update the list on the menu.

I think you shouldn't act like that. Anyway, I don't know about your TV, but mine Samsung 32' LED Serie 5 recognizes my phone as a usual HDMI connection. To enter the HDMI mode on the phone, I just connect to the HDMI in that the cable is connected...
Hi... Not sure how u took my words but I mean to say high speed hdmi cable cannot be a solution for that. I know it works on many tv and my tv model is mentioned above. I also know it doesn't work on many tv's but I think behind this concept is to make every bravia technology virtually linked. My tv is bravia n made by Sony. If it is not supported on this tv I loose my trust on Sony. No big deal but it would be ideal to work in that. Not buying Sony product again. I have just bought MHL adapter for my Evo 3D GSM.
At first, I tested it on an older LG 720p TV - everything was perfect - the display was cloned on the TV by just connecting the cable.
The games were perfectly playable, etc.
I'm not sure if the stock ROM supports cloning, but it does not matter - I'm using latest CoolSense.
However, on my Panasonic 42" LCD TV it sets the resolution to [email protected], which introduces considerable amount of lag between the phone's screen and the TV. This makes almost all games unplayable on the TV.
I've found that running the following command as root can change the resolution on the TV to [email protected] (and everything looks fine), but after a second, something reverts it back to [email protected]:

I think that the following command lists the available video modes:

After some experimenting, I've come to this:

This changes the resolution to 720p, and kills hdmid before it's able to restore the previous resolution. And there is no lag at all when playing games (Dead Space, Need for Speed, etc...)
I'm sure it's not very OK to kill the hdmid service (I suppose it manages the HDMI connection/detection etc), but after I kill it I can still disconnect the MHL cable, and when reconnect it the picture is still cloned.
However, the "HDMI" notification icon stays even when the HDMI cable is disconnected (I suppose the HDMI port is still powered and draining battery because the hdmid is not running)
Btw, I'm not Android developer, I'm just using my linux skills here

Also, how can I safely start/stop this hdmid (or other) service?
If there are some developers here, I would like to hear some thoughts...

Excellent work! I'm interested in doing the same thing on the galaxy s iii. Does your ROM have init.d support? hdmid may be a daemon that starts with Android. On some Linux distros, a bash script may be present with the "stop" and ”start" commands. I'm not in front of a computer right now to dig deeper, but you might be able to do something like "hdmid stop" as root.
Yes, my rom has full init.d support, but unfortunately I've already tried "hdmid stop", and it does not do anything (it just hangs after executed).
This is frustrating - the problem is common, with different phones from different manufacturers, and yet, there is so little information (and no real solution)...
How hard is to just put a simple app to change the resolution... The chinese Android TV sticks all have it!
I believe killall sends a SIGTERM signal to hdmid. Is the daemon open source? If so, you could check to see whether or not the daemon handles SIGTERM. It may be appropriately cleaning up before exiting. If so, running killall hdmid wouldn't be that big of a deal.
On the galaxy s iii, I don't have an hdmid daemon running before or after the mhl is connected. Some other process handles it.

hi folks interesting thread. i want to change the hdmi output on my s4 to 1080p24 with the samsung mhl 2.0 adapter. by default its 1080p60.
i'm rooted and using root explorer have found the relevant files, and sure enough the video_mode files has 16 in it - 1080p60. when i try to change this to 32 (1080p24) using a text editor (its mounted as r/w), the changes don't stick even though it says the file is saved ok. am i doing something wrong here? i noticed that you said "running the following command as root" - could you explain what this means please? i presume its in reference to using a terminal emulator?
I'm curious as to why the topic of HDMI has so little interest. It just baffles me. We need to find a way to stir more interest in this topic. I have a Galaxy Note 3 and I am having similar problems. Mine is that when using MHL I only get 720p (I have two different brands, same result) but on my Note 2 MHL works at 1080p just fine. Using an AllShareCast dongle works at 1080p fine. I prefer MHL to the compression artifact laden AllShareCast so this is frustrating me. There simply must be a relatively easy way to just select output resolutions using an app. Why does none exist? MHL has been around for some time now (2 years?). Come on! We have powerful PC's in our hands now! Let's get them desktop friendly!

Mine is that when using MHL I only get 720p (I have two different brands, same result) but on my Note 2 MHL works at 1080p just fine. Using an AllShareCast dongle works at 1080p fine. I prefer MHL to the compression artifact laden AllShareCast so this is frustrating me. There simply must be a relatively easy way to just select output resolutions using an app. Why does none exist? MHL has been around for some time now (2 years?). Come on! We have powerful PC's in our hands now! Let's get them desktop friendly!

FIX!!!!!
To change the resolution and make games and all apps lag free (with the method I found) you MUST be rooted.
If rooted, download a root terminal/cmd and type ru in prompt and hit enter. Then type wm size 720x1280. ***Will stay on indefinitely until reverted back with command ru then wm size 1080x1920***
Now your device will be 720p, but you will notice that your icons are huge. To fix that in CM12.1 go to setting/look and feel/DPI and change from 440 to 320. If you don't have CM12.1 download a DPI changer and change to 320, or find corresponding root cmd to change DPI... I don't know it because CM12.1 has one stock.
Now everything should be lag free and awesome for gaming! I use sixasis and screen standby and have been playing Zelda on the couch the last few evening.
