I've rooted 12b successfully this way:

It's apparently been repackaged into a "one-click" script:

Used the one click script last night on stock 12b. worked great!
question. Now that I am rooted, I've been looking at threads about installing a custom recovery. Some info is old some new and I cant tell what's best so I figure I'll just ask. Sorry if the answer was staring me in the face in one of the threads. Can i install clockwork or twrp so i can backup my device and possibly start trying custom roms? I read stuff about Bump... and pre bumped roms but im unsure... any insight/explanation of whats going on would help. I'm coming from an older phone which, once rooted, was easy to load and switch between custom roms in clockwork.

One more thing... I noticed on the TWRP site that when i go to my device... vs985, it says that i must be rooted (OK) and vulnerable to "Bump"
If I just rooted my stock device with the above script and nothing else... am I 'vulnerable to Bump" ...just want to make sure I meet all the requirements before i try to install the recovery.
TIA

Yep, you're fine. You can even use the TWRP Manager app from the Play Store to download and INSTALL it. I've tested it, its bump'd too.

Just to confirm...So is it now unnecessary to manually Bump! our phones since, from what I gather in your posts, using TWRP Manager or Flashify to flash the Bump'd TWRP performs the steps outlined in the Bump! guide?
Edit: Just read in another thread that the 12b update disables the ability to set our phones to Ethernet mode which the Bump! guide requires. Am I right in stating that, in order to get TWRP flashed, we have to either downgrade to 10b or use TWRP Manager/Flashify?
Wish I didn't have to learn a new process each time I switch devices unless, of course, it's a Nexus. Just made the jump from the 1st gen Moto X to the G3 so I'm making sure I know and understand what's necessary, what works, what doesn't, and what's possible.

If you're rooted already, just use Flashify or TWRP Manager to flash TWRP.

I never heard of that requirement. No downgrade necessary, period, if you're rooted.

Understood. Totally worth it, though. This is an awesome phone.
At least you're not asking about TWRP on the LG Pad 8.3 tablet. We have to downgrade the bootloader before using adb to write TWRP to the recovery partition.

I believe you need to downgrade back to 10B to install TWRP.

bump
Easiest way is to kdz back to 10b ,stump root add twrp
Using twrp manager app then flash SD or Jasmine Rom.
I just hard bricked doing it the adb way because I didn't have twrp at the time.
You have to downgrade the bootloader (aboot.img) to the one from 12B. You can get the file you need from the sticky .img repository (that sounds wrong) in the General section. I don't know the adb command off the top of my head to install it.

This isn't an OTA file, it's a KDZ which overwrites anything you have on your phone no matter what, using LG Mobile Tool 2014 on a Windows PC to flash it.

I understood, I am on 23b and I didn't want to go back to 12 or 10 to go up to another "unofficial release", but if this flashes directly with no problem I may be more inclined to try it out.

Yes you can flash directly without rolling back.

Technically you can 'update' from 23A, but it's a KDZ so you will lose all data on your internal storage.

Can I flash the 23C_01 Lollipop KDZ, then manually (dd commands) flash the bumped 23C kernel then manually flash TWRP 2860 and be ok or will I get the secure boot error?

I'd have to see it myself to be able to tell you. What I can tell you is that the 23C_01 KDZ has at least some different files than the 23C "OTA" leak we were using on here.
So if you're on the 23C that was available before the last 24 hours, it's not the same 23C. Similar, not identical.

I doubt if you'd be able to see the difference, but there's definitely technical differences. Example: the 23C_01 modem.img is 7 MB smaller than the one from the 23C leak we had.

hi all,
Just got in a G3, got it rooted with the One Click (5.0.1 Lollipop). And then Verizon wants to drop an update? Won't work! (and so I see several others have asked as well before me) So I tried the SU "unroot & cleanup" thinking it would unroot enough to take the update but nope, didn't work either. I'm stuck! So here's my question:
1 - if I do a full reset on the phone, will it take the update then?
2 - I do not want to flash ROM's and all that, this is my daily driver. ALL I want is the update and then I'll root it when or if possible. IF I can't get back to a happy partition or whatever Verizon wants to take the update, I'll just stick with what's here now and go back to rooting it.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

You have to return to stock using the TOT or KDZ method.

Forgive my complete and utter stupidity but could you elaborate on those methods? Being my workbench (aka, my lap) wreaks of laziness and failure, let's go with the easiest and/or most fool proof
EDIT : I googled it (I know...) and see there's a "B" KDZ file, dated 7-15-15, Would it be possible to load that file and it having the update already in place? (just curious about the process, vs going back to the older rom and then taking the VZ OTA)

Hahahaha well it should prompt you to download it after connecting your phone to your computer. after you finish installing and running the program, just follow the instructions on the screen and you should be fine! Be warned, it will take a VERY long time! After all that, you'll be fully unrooted and have the latest update, but this will also a up everything you had on your phone! It'll be like you just bought the phone

So just to verify I'm reading you correctly... you unrooted via SU unroot after having been rooted on 5.0.1, then ran the VZ Updater and all was well? Because I was rooted and ran the updater, it did take FOREVER (1.6GB!) then it errored out when I tried to run it. But I have no yet tried since unrooting.
That's strange. Well what I did exactly was try to unroot it using the SU method as you explained, then when that didn't work I decided to connect it to VZ updater and from there it finally updated my phone and I was unrooted as well

Hope you don't mind me quoting you on this, you seem well versed in this process. As I stated above, I did manage to get the 24B update in, but unable to root. After reading all I could find, it seems the ONLY option I have to get root again, is to use the LG Flash Tool to load the 24B KDZ file, which will wipe the phone out to stock (but on 24B ROM). Then the software won't say "modified" and the phone will then take root via the "newest method script". Does that sound right?
If I could ask for one more piece of advice, are there any pitfalls to watch out for in using the LG Flashtool and 24B KDZ file? If none, after doing so the phone will be 'factory reset' and needing to add my google info etc? I saw where it won't delete personal files, but that really doesn't matter to me. My #1 goal is to have the 24B with root.
Thank you all for all your help!

You may want to re-word this. TWRP works just fine on 35B.
Also, although not as easy, I recall reading one or two people possibly installing it some way on rooted 35B in a way that it worked without a secure boot error - I'd have to search to verify that though and I don't remember what they did to do so.
Dunno why you need a computer. I rooted my 35b without one.

Rooted 24b with TWRP recovery. Hooked it up to the computer and let the Verizon tool update it. Lost root, system still said modified. Then when King Root was available, it did that to get root on 35b. I also did the SuperSU script to get rid of King Root. Took maybe 5 minutes start to finish. No downgrading.

Where is this that TWRP is working on 35b?

Anyone who had root and TWRP on a release prior to 35B and flashed a pre-rooted 35B ROM is using TWRP just fine. I've seen a few people say something about TWRP having to be made compatible with 35B and that's not the case. It works just fine with it. It's even easy to install, it just requires more work than simply installing TWRP to either/or actually be able to use it or keep your system booting, or both, I forget the exact experience.
As far as a way to install it in a working manner on 35B, as I said:
Also, although not as easy, I recall reading one or two people possibly installing it some way on rooted 35B in a way that it worked without a secure boot error - I'd have to search to verify that though and I don't remember what they did to do so.

Pre-Rooted. Of course. They didn't take an OTA and lost root. I'm talking about Taking an OTA, losing root and having to re root and flash TWRP.

I figured that, but you asked where was the TWRP that was working on 35B. You're not alone, several people have asked about a version of TWRP that was compatible, or worked with 35B. For anyone who reads these questions and doesn't know any better, it makes it sound like the latest TWRP doesn't work on 35B, when in fact it does.

i dont see any reason i couldnt put twrp on rooted 35b the same way i did on the first L build.
i really dont see the point in doing it or posting about it though. you guys have a working method and that should be enough.
there was too much user error leading to confusion before, and there is no need for all that again when you have a more fail safe working method.

First, have you checked to see if @bender_007 has an updated autorec app made specifically for 35B in his thread in non-Verizon G3 General? I haven't checked or heard news lately. Don't install any that say they're for 23C or 24B.
Otherwise, the easiest way is to downgrade, re-root and install TWRP an easier way than possible under 35B. I recommend the 10B KDZ because you can still root it with the Stump app in brute force mode and just use TWRP Manager to install TWRP.

Flash 24B what? KDZ? No, you can't flash a KDZ with anything but LG's tools (including the hacked LG Flash Tools 2014. The all-in-one toolkit doesn't do anything that all the separately maintained methods don't do. It just gives a central location to all those individual tools, but you still would be using the same tools.

I don't know what you mean. What 24B TWRP? TWRP versions aren't specific to different LG builds. The TWRP v2.8.7.0 that works with 35B is the same one that works with 24B. The difference is the method of installing.
If the author of the all-in-one says that his tool will install TWRP fine on 35B, then that's between him and you. I don't use the tool so I can't tell you. That's a question better asked in his thread.
Oh alright yeah Idk if the all in one does or not I'd have ask.

Do you think even fast boot would work to push twrp on the device?

I thought this phone doesn't have fastboot.
---------- Post added at 05:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:37 AM ----------
Also, the problem isn't precisely installing TWRP, it's other things that need done in order to do so. Fastboot wouldn't make a difference.
