Hello everybody,
I just successfully rooted my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi (GT-P7510 model) using stock 4.0.4 ROM, and wanted to put up together all the steps, as they are disseminated through several posts and various broken links in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development forum.
As I'm not able to write there because of being a noob, I'll post it here, hoping any moderator sees this and moves it to its correct place.
I assume you have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi device (GT-P7510) with stock Android 4.0.4 ROM installed and working.
Step 1: Downloading relevant files:
From this post, get Odin3 v1.85 and CWM Touch Recovery.
Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file from this post.
Latest version of SuperUser from here. This is needed because SuperUser included in the other zipfile doesn't work well with ICS, as stated in this post.
Step 2: Placing files correctly:
Decompress Odin3 to a folder on your computer.
Copy CWM file (named recovery.tar.md5) to the same folder of Odin3.
Plug the tablet to your computer and copy latest version of SuperUser and file "Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip" to device's root folder.
Step 3: Installing custom recovery:
Put your tablet into download mode:
Power off tablet.
Power on holding Power + Vol Down (left part of volume button) buttons.
When Samsung logo appears, release power button, but continue holding Vol Down button.
When two icons appear, push Vol Up button (right part of volume button).
Connect tablet to computer. Wait until drivers are fully configured.
Open Odin3 v1.85.exe (under WinVista/7 admin rights must be granted).
Under ID:COM label a yellow box with a COMX port number must appear. If you encounter problems see below.
Push PDA button and select previously downloaded recovery.tar.md5 file.
Push Start button. If everything went OK tablet should restart automatically. If you encounter problems see below.
Disconnect tablet from computer.
Step 4: Rooting process:
Put your tablet into recovery mode:
Power off tablet.
Power on holding Power + Vol Down (left part of volume button) buttons.
When Samsung logo appears, release power button, but continue holding Vol Down button.
When two icons appear, push Vol Down to select the leftmost option, and then Vol Up button (right part of volume button).
Right now you can switch options wih VolUP and VolDown buttons and select options with power button.
Navigate through "Install zip from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard".
Select "Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip" file and select "Yes - Install Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip" when prompted.
Once the installation ends, repeat procedure with the latest SuperUser build previously downloaded.
Once the installation ends, select "+++++Go Back+++++" and "reboot system now".
Step 5: Enjoy your rooted device! :victory:
This has been tested only with a Spanish Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi device (GT-P7510) with stock Android 4.0.4 ROM installed.
Problems encountered:
If you have trouble running Odin, follow these steps:
Disconnect tablet from computer.
Uninstall Samsung Kies.
Reboot computer.
Download root.zip file from this post.
Install "GT-p7510_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0-Escape.exe" drivers.
Retry again. Another reboot may be useful.
I want to thank you to all the staff of xda-developers and to all the users whose work I compiled here.
Get in there, root acess is mine! Worked a treat on my GT-P7510 wi-fi only with stock ICS 4.0.4, build number IMM76D.UELPL, just added my tablet details for anybody searching in the future.
Thanks very much, time to play
Ty
TyTyTy.. Just what the doctor ordered. Worked flawlessly. Ty for taking the time to write all that up also.
My root went awry !
Hi
I believe I followed all the directions but something went amiss.
My GT p7510 now will just reboot to find my network and connect, then show the clock and security screen , it will show the current time and accept my security shape --but then the screen stops accepting input. and everything stops.
Seems like running recovery is possible, would a factory reset be advisable?
Thanks
GT p7510 stock ics
Confirmed Root of GT-P7510 with 4.0.4 stock
I just wanted to post a reply to confirm that I was able to use these instructions to perform my first ever root of an android device (GT-P7510 with 4.0.4 android and build number IMM76D-UELPL). Thanks for a great, easy to follow post. :good:
I would also recommend that any users make sure to install the Samsung drivers (GT-p7510_USB_Driver_v1_3_2360_0-Escape) on their PC before starting the instructions as written, as I have read that these drivers are needed as a prerequisite to rooting in other forums.
woot
Great guide i tried others and all the Dl links were broken yours all worked
THANK YOU!
Worked on my GT P7510 United States. I am a noob, I followed your flawless directions and all is well. Thanks for the easy to read and use tutorial!:good:
I'm a noob from Canada, I signed up on this forum just to thank you for this easy to follow guide!
A friend just gave me his old GT-P7510 (aka p4wifi) and I used this guide to root it because it was very clear and detailed. Went perfectly smoothly.
However, the OP is old and points to an older version of CWM. If you intend to flash CM 10.1, you need a newer version of CWM. Take a look at this thread (if you have the wi-fi version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296961
From Post #5 I grabbed the flashable version of CWM Touch 6.0.3.1 (P4wifi) and flashed it, then flashed CM 10.1 (8/4 nightly) and everything went super smooth. You guys rock. :good:
Hi,
Some months later i try tu follow your tutorial. Very clear but... i've 2 problems.
With the CWM that you recommend, the recovery mode is unreadable (rolling) > first problem.
So i follow this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555984 it resolves my display problem, i can access to recovery mode.
I continue with step 4 with Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip installation in recovery mode but now my device doesn't start, it loops...
Initialy it was in 4.0.4... i think i don't understand anything with the different versions of firmwares and others CWM...
Help will be really appreciate...
Many thanks

from stock 4.0.4
install recovery from droidbasement
send over custom rom and gapps
go into recovery and install rom then gapps
reboot and voila
(use odin and stock rom to get back to stock and no more bootloop)
as long as you can get back into recovery/download everything is fixable.
android is like a pc
recovery = bios
custom/stock rom = windows..linux...ect..
wrong root.zip file will give you bootloop your adding wrong files so device can't boot up
hope this helped
btw...you don't need to be rooted to install recovery or custom roms
I'm Rooted!!
Followed instructions to successfully root a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and then installed GSM (cell) call support from AndroidAdvices site.
All went well but I did have to follow the "Problems Encountered' sequence to get Odin3 to run on the Windows desktop.
Really appreciate your help.
Thanks guys.

Yes
sent from my still superb Google I/O 7510
Hi! Thanks for your post for the steps of the rooting of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 . I have just a few quick questions.
is it possible to use your rooting guide to flash the latest version of CWM recovery or should I use the specific one you recommended with the link in the guide? In order words, could I flash CWM 6.0.3.0 ( the latest for galaxy tab 10.1) instead of the one you suggested? Just let me know. If you believe the CWM version you suggested in your guide is safer then I will flash the one you suggested instead. Also is it possible to use adb fastboot to turn the tablet into the desired mode? I really have trouble pressing the buttons to get to the different modes. Thank you very much.
Re My Build #
Hi I just looked at my Build # and it's IMM76D.VLLH3 now my questions are
Will this work with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510.
Will is change the Build #.
Thank you in advance for reply.

These links to superuser (which is necessary, I tried the version from the play store and it didn't work) have changed, they are now found here:
http://hosted.androidsu.com/superuser/su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
http://hosted.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
After flashing these (along with the root zip) everything worked properly...

Hi to all, my Huawei Ascend G700 that I just bought has gone into a bootloop. I have succesfully root the phone using Huwaei eroot software from as in the picture below but I havent flashed any custom ROM yet.
But then I want to install CWM recovery into the phone as it much feature rich that the stock e3 recovery. So I've downloaded the CWM recovery from the page in the picture below.
I used MobileUncle Tools to boot the CWM recovery & that's when the issue occured. It keep restarting after the Huawei logo. I cant even get into the recovery (by holding volume button up + power button). If I hold the volume down button + power button, a sentence " => FSATBOOT mode... " at the lower left corner of the screen will appear but the phone will reboot itself again & again. Please help. Thank you.

get the firmware for your phone (don't know if it's G700-U00 or U10), and flash images back. take out the battery, put the software in download mode for the necessary images (=download to phone), and insert the cable while you 're pushing both volume buttons

as I said, use the solution I posted ... I managed to recover my phone with bricked recovery, uboot & boot partition:
- download the original stuff on the page,
- install the program
- tell it to upload firmware parts 'boot' & 'recovery' & start it
- connect the USB cable, hold both volume buttons and then enter the battery. this may not be easy: windows will first need to install a CDC driver, so the first time you try to download it will certainly fail, but maybe the 2nd or 3rd time . You know you're in the good mode when your screen keeps blank.
Sir
I guess I need more assistance from you if you don't mind.I have added my comments in red letters to your email below and if you can assist me on that it will be appreciated

I think the program he is refering to is listed on that other thread that he refers to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412017
The program hisuite is mentioned. just google hisuite and you will find the official Huawei website with the program download.
But a "dummies how to guide" could be useful if anyone that have done this themself could take the trouble to make one.
Personally I just have ordered and not received my G700 yet, and found this thread because I was planning to root and put CWM into it when I get it.
But reading this thread makes me a bit worried if its worth the trouble, as it sounds as its a common problem on these phones.
From what I read, rooting is rather safe, but the CWM part may brick the phone, is this correct?

Download;:
Odin: http://d-h.st/UIo
TWRP (thanks to Silesh.Nair on XDA for this): http://www.mediafire.com/download/6w3p63g9g5xnve9/twrp_2.6.3.5.tar
you can also use Philz Touch recovery though odin. https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/meliusltexx/philz_touch_6.48.4-meliusltexx.tar.md5/
How to install Recovery using odin:
1. Download mode: you do this by turning off the phone, Then hold down the power - volume down and home keys. it will vibrate than a WARNING!! screen comes up. Press your Volume up key to get into "Download Mode" than plug the phone into your computer.
2. Installing Recovery through odin: open odin, click the "BL" button find your recovery.tar (that you downloaded from the Recovery link above.) select it. let odin do its thing. You should now have recovery!!!
Once you have the recovery installed. Unplug your phone. Boot into Recovery (to get into recovery. turn the phone off hold down the Power Button, the Volume UP Button and the Home Button all at the same time till it vibrates than a black screen comes up with little blue letters in the upper left corner that say "booting recovery" with the Samsung logo. let go of all the buttons when that screen comes up and wait for it to go into recovery) Do a backup of your Current ROM. It will ask you if you want to ROOT. select yes. Let it ROOT and than back up your ROM.
After that You'll want to update your TWRP Download with this zip (also a Silesh.Nair prodcut) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/y29walf0h4ipo64/twrp_2.7.0.5.zip
Put it on your sd card or some were you can find it from Recovery. Then install it. Reboot TWRP. you should now be up to date.

Hello Guys,
Yesterday I received my ATT LG E970 Phone, I was trying to remove ATT Apps from the phone. So, I did using ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946 >> How to "root" your Optimus G
Then it installed SuperSU on my phone. After that I unstalled an Uninstaller APP from Playstore and uninstalled all ATT as well as some Google Apps.
Now, I did reboot and EveryBAD thing happens from here. I got stuck at LG Logo .. It saying "Security Error". After that I serached on xDA Forum for solution of it. And I found this guide ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230994
After reading it I installed LGNPST and connected phone in "DOWNLOAD Mode" and downloaded TeenyBin and did as per his manual. But unfortunately first option didn't worked. So , I used Alternete Tennybin File.
After Rebooting, I got a Google Logo instead of LG.. Don't know and as per instructions I entered in Fast Boot mode. In fast Boot mode some Green Android icon came and I can change the setting using volume + and - button. I eneterd from there in RECOVERY Mode.
After pressing Power in Recovery Mode of Green Android the phone rebooted and It eneterd in "Team Win Recovery Project". I din't know what to do with it. After some searching I did a Factory Reset using Wipe button in "Team Win Recovery Project". and Rebooted but still Noting Happened. Phone restarted with Google Logo and there after nothing comes :S
After that I agin entered in Fast Boot Mode.. using Vol + and Power buttton together and eneterd in Recovery mode and again went to Wipe in "Team Win Recovery Project" and then Advanced and selected all folders and Deleted all. After that I rebooted using "Team Win Recovery Project" but it said NO OS INSTALLED.
I was totally stuck. I don't know what to do. Finally I slept with 8 hrs Messed. I woke up in morning and phone is not even Starting now. When I connect to Charger. Red Light Blinks in power button n then Goes OFF. and I tried connecting it to PC too via USB but again same happens. The PC didn't recognized the Phone. I also Tried in DEVICE Manger, but No use. I can't see any Device there too. :S
Please Help WHAT Should I DO NOW ????
Any help will be really appreciated.
PS : It was ATT Unlocked phone. I don't have any warranty.

Hi,
dont panic, I went thru exactly the same process right up till the TWRP and wipe. All you need to do is get hold of the stock rooted rom zip from here:
Then copy it onto your sdcard, for which you can connect to the computer using Advanced menu of the TWRP, and load the sdcard, which will connect as USB storage to PC.
Then once file is on sd card, just go back to main TWRP meny and select install option, then select the zip file you just copied.
Let TWRP do its stuff, then do a factory reset / then go into reboot system.
Wish you all the best. Once the ROM has installed, now you can search for the latest TWRP, install it then go on to latest kit kat roms in exactly the same way.

hope he follows up with a thank you.

That file is stock firmware inside the zip is a .tot file that can be renamed to .bin and used with lgnpst to bring the phone back to stock. You would need to be able to get into download mode
again. If you do use the g33k3r file you would need to root again then use Freegee app from play store to unlock bootloader and install recovery.

Now I'm downloading ...
ttp://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg/att/firmware/LGE970AT-00-V10o-ATT-US-SEP-29-2012-0.zip
I guess this is original ATT LG E970 Firmware. I will copy it into my external Memory Card and then will insert into phone. After that using TWRP I'll be going to use this Zip file and after that factory reset. Am I correct ? Do I need to follow different steps ?
Let me know. Moreover do I need to unlock Phone again? When I received it was already in Unlocked State. So installing the above link firmware will lock it again? Or should I proceed with the link I posted earlier, I mean this ..
ttp://downloads.codefi.re/g33k3r/LGE970AT-01-V20j-310-410-MAR-08-2013.zip
And Rename File to .bin instead of .tot and Make ZIP it again ?
Please let me know.
PS ; I'm still Downloading The firmware from Ist link.

What is TWRP?
I quote
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
WHAT IS THE USE OF INSTALLING TWRP?
TWRP is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM.
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/

Download TWRP version 3.2.1-0 from
http://www.mediafire.com/file/0bhuw8gw233c3wa/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar
HOW DO I INSTALL THE RECOVERY?
1.Download Odin from http://www.mediafire.com/file/sbobzdpre78l569/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
STEP 1:
Put your phone into download mode.
Press and hold these three buttons until you see a WARNING SCREEN! to enter into the Download mode:
Volume DOWN key + Power key + Home key
When you see the WARNING SCREEN press the volume UP key to continue into the Download mode.
STEP 2:
Open the ODIN application on your PC. Connect your phone(while it is still in the download mode) to the PC using a USB cable.
ODIN will show an Added! message on the message box.
Device Added on ODIN
STEP 3:
Click on the AP button on the ODIN application and select the twrp-x.x.x-x-codename.img.tar file.
Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file
STEP 4:
Select the appropriate options before flashing the recovery image.Make sure only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other boxes are un-checked.
Select the ODIN Options
STEP 5:
Select the Start button, which will start the flashing process. When you get the PASS message, then your phone will reboot automatically.
Click on Start and wait till it completes
Now your Samsung Device is flashed with the TWRP image and you may disconnect your phone. Your phone should restart by itself if not press and hold the power button. Boot into your recovery by holding together power-volume up-and home button.
HOW TO UPDATE YOUR RECOVERY?
Your TWRP recovery can be easily updated by flashing an image file. It's very simple and easy.
1.Download the latest version of twrp. Make sure it is a .img file
Download it from http://www.mediafire.com/file/1q0oq8s8yykcxov/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img
2.Boot into the TWRP recovery
3.Press on install and then press install image
4.Click on recovery
5.And follow the instructions and that's it.
If you found this helpful, please give me a thanks. Have a nice day. Enjoy
All these files were obtained from TWRP's official site and from samsung odin. I own nothing and does not claim authority over these files. These files were uploaded to MediaFire for ease of access and for educational purposes.

I clicked on AP button in Odin, and selected the twrp image.tar file. Check.
Then you tell me to click on the AP button again and select the CWM file, but if I do that, then the twrp file is no longer selected.
I'm afraid to guess because even though it's old, I don't want to brick this thing.

To get TWRP on my device, I followed the instructions listed here: tab-4/orig-development/twrp-install-twrp-root-samsung-galaxy-t3111934
(I can't post links. Just put forum.xda-developers in front of that)
Instead of using TWRP 3.0.0 or 2.8, I used this newest verison with Odin 3.09 (instead of 3.12)
And it worked on my T230NU
"SOMEONE ANYONE" ...those mysterious instructions entries...
i probably qualify as an anyone, that is im doing this for the first time, though i have some experience with doing the same thing to my old HP Touchpad (tenderloin) device over and over again over the years, to keep it from throwing up alerts about apps stopping... So yes i was confused by the same glitches in the instructions since i dont want to brick my old tablet and try to follow instructions exactly:
A) in STEP 2:
"Device Added on ODIN"
>> no Odin doesnt actually print those words out, i think the op is sort of restating the sentence above it.
B) in STEP 3:
"Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file"
>> I think this is just a copy/paste error the op took from some other post and never cleaned up, presumably CWM refers to ClockWorkMod which is different recovery in itself, and i don't suspect you can have two recoveries installed, no? plus, its not mentioned anywhere else in this thread no link of anything, so i just ignored that line and proceeded according to the rest of the instructions.
C) STEP 4:
"Select the ODIN Options"
>> another instance of repeating whats already been instructed in the sentence above it.
So I just ignored the items noted above, the only other thing i did that is different from this thread is i had previously installed the samsung USB drivers noted as seemingly important in other threads, i dont know if that matters since ive never tried it without them, but anyways, I hit 'start' and it worked fine and said PASS in about 5 seconds, then a bit later rebooted, but took a couple minutes to get out of the Samsung logo boot screen -i almost thought it was bricked for a moment there- but it finally came through and it all seems okay. so now i can reboot into TWRP and see all of its options, so now im ready to give a try to install the Pixelized OS!
For my T230NU, TWRP reboots (crashes) reliably in the middle of the wiping-the-cache process:
The TWRPs i tried are "twrp-3.0.0-0-degas.img.tar", "twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar" , "twrp-3.3.0-0-degas.img.tar"
I selected the usual four items to wipe: "Dalvic cache", "cache", "system", "Data"
(the built-in one-swipe factory-reset wipe crashes just the same)
I installed them all with Odin 3.12.3
This older version seems just fine: "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-degas.tar"
Will this image work with Verizon Tablet SM-T537V?
Hey, will this work on degaswifi (regular SM-T230)?

Flashed it successfully on my SM-T230NU, however I am also experiencing a crash during a built-in wipe. I reverted back to v3.0.0 and it seems to be working as expected. Thanks,

Enjoy

I have a SM-T230NU (nook). It freezes at boot after the "nook" logo screed is displayed. When I power down it immediately reboots to the same logo screen and again freezes. I can't turn it off without taking the back off and unplugging the battery. When I plug the battery back in after a few minutes, it stays off until I try to boot again and the same cycle repeats itself. Any ideas how to fix this.
