I cannot get into recovery anymore. I'm HTC dev unlocked and I've been running amor recovery for about a week. I tried out one of the ics roms. And wasn't a fan of it so over been trying to get back to gb. At some point while on the ics rom I lost access to recovery. Just stayed on the htc screen. So I then tried flashing cwm (which after I download is just a text file ) so even after renaming it didn't work. I also tried to reflash amor in bootloader but did not read it as a legit pm98 file. At this point I have a gingerbread boot.img. with an ics rom so Ithe phone will not boot and have no recovery. No idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately since all of the kernels are built into the ics roms I am unable to move it from inside the zip.
I can't seem to get back to stock for some reason, I've googled, searched the forums used the search function in the forums followed all those steps with bootloader unlocked and relocked and still Can't get to stock. My phone details are
HTC Amaze 4g (TELUS)
Android version: 4.0.3
Recovery: 4EXT
I'm not sure what other information is needed, I tried this thread here tried both files, the first one i tried restoring from recovery, says the MD5 sums don't match so I didn't want to take the chance. The second file the .exe attempted that failed right away and after removing battery phone went back to the same way it was. tried renaming the first file to PH85IMG and relocked bootloader, the flash succeeded it seemed, but once phone loaded nothing was changed..which I found very weird. It formatted I wiped caches, fixed permissions and get back to home screen after it was all done, and my apps were all still installed and settings were exactly the same and everything. (I had the feeling I'm already on stock and that's why its not working), the whole reason I was trying to get to stock is because in order to s-off juopunutbear's tutorial, where it didn't work the troubleshooting said problem is im not stock, or! i have certain programs installed. But I just reformatted and just installed the basics, so I have nothing that would interfere as far as I know.

You just need a Telus ICS stock RUU, not gb RUU. Rename the zip rom to ph85img, not the exe file, put to your sd, relock and boot the bootloader. It will scan and ask you to update, just say yes.
you're done.

Well, I'm not with telus, but to me those look like on the air ICS and stock GB, which explain your prob :
•OTA_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TELUS_WWE_2.14.661.2-1.41.661.3_release_258801lhwl8053lp8g5hcp.zip

I haven't checked for the Telus one. I've the Videotron ICS RUU, but it's won't help unless you're cid free. For the .exe, you have to get the rom, not rename the .exe to .zip. Just search in your temp (%temp%), when you activate the RUU you'll see some new folders. Look for it, rename and you're done.
Maybe someone else could post a direct link.
Maybe you can directly try with the OTA to get back. boot into stock recovery, if you have the red triangle error, hold volume up and press the power button, should give you a menu, then install update from external, select the OTA RUU and install.
Try that, maybe it will solve your prob.

Hmm I found the rom.zip but I can't do anything with it, just says its invalid.
where do you get the invalid message? I've extracted the rom.zip after starting the exe file, and renamed it and it worked no problem before. If I get a hold of my backup phone I'll see if I can load up a stock rom and do a backup, zip it and put it on dropbox for you. That won't be til tomorrow though, and at least that way you'll have the stock rom, one way or another

When I try to open it, I tried just renaming copying it to SD, it ran...but then said failed..older hboot....I believe. How would I be able to tell if I was on a stock ruu...I have a feeling I'm already stock...and that's why nothing is working...and my juopunutbear problem lies elsewhere.
did you try to flash with a stock recovery? You need a stock recovery to get the ruu to install. Did you change your hboot?

ya im pretty much stuck cant get back to stock because my bootloader version is newer
I downloaded the update and when I choose to install it, my phone boots to TWRP. I found the 3.17 file in my downloads but TWRP fails when I choose to install it. I am rooted and S-OFF. I don't really care about losing my root since I just rooted to uninstall bloatware and I'm running stock 3.16. Any ideas? Thanks guys!
I believe you need to have the stock recovery on your phone in order for the update to fully automate through recovery etc. It's basically finding your recovery but since it's not stock it's just stopping...in general evo lte forum someone mentions how to do it or even a rooted version has been posted by captain throwback...hope that helps.

Go to the thread in the link below and download one of the ROM's from the first two links. Flash in recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468418
You'll retain root as the su binary is built into both ROM's.

So I downloaded the boot image and the firmware. Do I need to rename any of these files? I've tried to install both of them through TWRP and they both fail. They are both on my root folder. I also tried to go to hboot but it searches for PJ75IMG_3.17.651.4.zip and doesn"t find anything. Sorry for the n00b question but this is confusing to me. I just don't want to install a whole new rom to get the OTA

Yeah, you just need to put it on the root of your external sd card and rename it to PJ75IMG.zip. Reboot into bootloader and it will find it automatically and ask if you want to install. You don't actually need the boot img, that's just the kernel for the latest sense build. You'll want to keep the one that was installed with your rom.

I need some help on my Verizon Thunderbolt. I did something dumb and need some help. Hopefully someone is able to direct me to the correct path.
I was trying to install a rooted and debloated rom for my device. I just want to use it as a clock.
So I ended up unlocking the bootloader and installed CWM touch.
I forgot to make a backup and wipe the entire device right away. I installed stock rooted rom, it shows black screen after the HTC screen. I just realized that I have forgotten to S-OFF.
Now I was trying to install RUU so I can boot the device up and S-OFF.
I tried googling for a few hours and I could not find stock firmware or RUU. All of them are dead link.
For some reason, I am unable to install stock rom when I booted into Fastboot and have the stock zip (P4IMG.zip <<< I forgot how to spell it). It checked everything but does not show up the menu to let me flash the stock firmware.
Now I have: Unlocked bootloader, S-On, CWM Touch installed.
I would like to know is it anyway flash a working rom (stock gb or any and not dead link) so that I am able to boot up and carry out S-Off.
Thanks,
Appreciate any feedback and replies.
Can anyone upload the AT&T stock recovery img? @thoughtlesskyle was awesome enough to upload the system and boot partitions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-one-m9/general/stock-stock-twrp-t3080499
I guess the AT&T RUU would work as well if anyone has that floating around.
THX all!
I would also really appreciate a flashable stock recovery partition!
I have a brand new HTC One M9, stock and untouched - I unlocked the bootloader, but relocked it before flashing TWRP or anything because I realized that I can have root, or stock recovery, but not both.
I'm reluctant to wipe the stock recovery image and replace it with TWRP, because I *really* want the camera OTA applied correctly when AT&T decides to push it out.
If I wipe the stock recovery, install TWRP, and install root along with a ROM - I'll lose the stock recovery, and even if I reflash a bone-stock system dump, the recovery partition will be modified so I won't be able to take the AT&T signed OTA and flash it.
I even tried to "fastboot boot twrp-recovery-2.8.6.4.img" in both bootloader and download mode to see if I can use TWRP without flashing and blowing away the stock recovery partition, but no luck.... and it seems I'm unable to backup the stock recovery partition as is unless I get root (which requires me to flash TWRP...)
You can get it here

I'm confused on how I can return my m9 to Full stock. I have twrp , S OFF and SuperSU.
I've downloaded RUU from http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
Do I first do S-ON then launch RUU exe and it will be back to stock? Do I even need to have S-ON ? Will flashing RUU via just running it remove root AND twrp?
att HTC One M9 back to stock fully
So this is what I found after some research and was successful at resetting everything to stock:
If you are rooted, unlocked, your status on bootloader says 'modified' but you want to go back to stock. To return the phone or some other reason:
First - set your phone to S-OFF with http://theroot.ninja/index.html I know - it costs $25. I will gladly accept another way of doing it, but unaware of one.
Second - set your Software Status back to Official by visiting this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-restore-software-status-original-t3092882
This the second step since you need to be S-OFF for it to work.
At this point you'll still have your Bootloader showing as Unlocked and of course S will be OFF.
Then do the step 2 to lock the bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-return-m9-to-100-stock-s-off-t3091730
Then I would not do step 3, but only because I found ROM exe for my ATT one m9 here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
It'll take 5 minutes or so to finish. This will reload your Lollipop back to factory state. It will also unroot your phone.
Then you can do S-ON by rebooting to download mode ( adb reboot download ) and running: ( fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 ). This was 'optional' step after step 7 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-return-m9-to-100-stock-s-off-t3091730
