I'm coming from a nexus 4.
I'll be sad to see my nexus go but the Z2 looks so good.

I've tried Sony Xperia Z1 before making the decision to wait and go for Z2. However, I didn't use it as my primary device at any point, so the correct answer in my case would be Sony Xperia S.
You could say I'm a die-hard Sony-fanBOY
From Galaxy S 2, if the developer community is active and Sony releases sources of Z2
LG G2
Need dat micro sd
Also from Galaxy S2, if the Z2 battery life comes anywhere near lg g2.
Sony stock rom looks pretty good to me, I really love miui like notification bar.
Cannot wait for this phone. Coming from a One X+ with abysmal battery life. Hoping this phone will last a while. My only worry is that the phone will be too big.

Same here, also coming from the One X+ which is still pretty good with custom rom but battery is horrible on this device especially since the update! I'm lucky to get 10hrs out of this device and that's from just going on FB a few times, text messages, handful of phone calls, maybe 1 youtube video clip of 5min. Pretty sad to say the least.
I remember when the Z1 first came out and saw it and thought it was almost Phabletish. Hoping the Z2 isn't any worse. I originally came from an iPhone 4 to the One X+ so big difference in size overall. Thinking maybe now use to this size the Z2 won't seem too big. Then again will have to put something comparable to the Speck Candy Shell case on it for protection, Back Glass is no good. Not sure what the heck Sony was thinking with a Glass backing? Seriously one drop without a case and it's came over and that just a drop from pocket height. Even with a Candy Shell case on my iPhone 4 i had nasty cracked Glass on the back from a simple drop from pocket height INSIDE a Candy Shell case! Zagg front screen protector and hard case the second this device gets out of the box! Also Squaretrade warranty just in case!

I'm coming from Galaxy S3 with Delta Rom and Boeffla Kernel. I've got quite good battery life with this set up. I was going to get a S5 after skipping the S4 until I saw the specs. It is utter tripe. Time for me to come back to Sony after years of a break. :victory:

Coming from a Nokia Lumia 920. Had a lot of Androids over the years but wanted to try WP.
At this point i'm pretty fed up with the OS and looking forward to going back to Android. I just hope I wont be disappointed with the camera!
The 920 cam is just awesome!
Galaxy s3 after 2 years excellent service it'll be a sad day to see the old girl get replaced but the Z2 definitely is shaping up to be an excellent upgrade

Galaxy S3 here also. Mine has started to have some really annoying bugs and lag after the recent update so I'm actually happy to change it. Terrific phone all in all. Watched a video in bed just now. With Nocs NS400 earplugs I can recommend to anyone wanting better sound quality.
I'll be upgrading from SGS4 at first. Butno more, I'll keep my SGS4 and not upgrade to z2.
Reason : I can upgrade my device in 2nd half of the year, and rumor says z3 will launch in august or september, so I'll wait and see the z3 first. If z3 not showing near it, then I'll still upgrading to z2. :fingers-crossed:
LG G2. My internal storage is running out and I didn't grow to like the plastic back.
Go ahead and laugh but I'm still using a 4-year old smartphone, HTC HD2 running on WinMobile 6.5 with Cookie's Home Tab. Definitely be getting a replacement for it in 2-3 months time.
The top choice now is Sony Xperia Z2 but looking out for HTC M8 a.k.a All New One to see what it has got to offer in terms of that supposedly dual-lens camera.

Hi guys, I just sold my S3 LTE , as I cracked the screen and didn't want to repair it. I was looking for upgrade before that, so now the time has come.
I need a device that is a bit more rugged, not necessarily waterproof and so on... I read that the S4 is even more fragile though.
Anyway. I'd really love a high end device, so I don't have to upgrade it for the next 2 years.
I don't play games but do a lot of browsing, emailing and other work related stuff. I have good cameras so the camera on the phone just needs to be OK, but It should bebetter than the S3. I'm now using an iphone 5 and while it's a marelously well build and fast, I'm not quite sure I could deal with it's quirks. I've been on Android for almost 6 years, so you get what I mean.
I'm looking at :
LG G2 16GB
LG Nexus 5 16GB
Galaxy S4
Huaiwei Ascend P6
HTC ONE
Anything else you might recommend, except for Sony...

LG G2 - Very Good Choice
Nexus 5 - Awesome (but not the best camera)
S4 - Sucks
P6 - Friend has it, not bad, but battery life is terrible
HTC One - Awesome.
Also, look into the Xperia Z2, another good option for you.
Personally, i'd go with the new HTC one.

I really like the One too, but can you give some more details why would you choose it. And with the new model just around the corner - I'm no sure. I'm interested in the N5 too, bu tI'm put off by the small-ish battery
Friend of mine has the current One, played with it quite a bit. Its just everything i would want in a phone. Its really well made, fits very comfortably in your hand. I'm a fan of IPS LCD over AMOLED. Operations are much smoother and faster than Samsung. Blinkfeed is awesome (for me personally) and you have all the freedom of Android with a very good display incased in a very good body. Also i dont really need crap like airwave and air gesture, in fact, since 4.3 my smart stay barely works.
The One is just my personal choice, i think its the most balance between design, UI and performance. LG G2 isnt far behind. If you going to go with the One, u might as well wait for the new one. If you dont plan to get the new one, i'd probably go the G2 over the Old 1. The Snapdragon 800 will last u much longer than the 600 in the One (2013 edition) The G2 has IPS LCD as well and is very very fast. Only thing lacking is the aluminum body and blinkfeed. Also LG has a pretty good multi-tasking interface, it opens small windows of apps. I suggest you Check out YouTube for the G2.
Depending on how much you want to wait, you should definitely also consider the oppo find 7. This phone's a beauty in my eyes. Specs are great too.
Another interesting phone is the oneplus one with cm. Its going to be 5.5inch with the size of a 5 inch sony z1, qualcomm s800 and its supposed to cost less than 400$. Too bad that there arent any real pics yet and the release is going to be somewhere in Q2 of 2014. So, it can be 1 month or almost 3 :<
I would suggest you go for the All New HTC One or the Xperia Z2 ...both of the devices r going to hit the shelves with in weeks !!

I'm not buying a Sony, that's for sure. The htc one is another thing, but I'm afraid it will be quite expensive at launch, at least that's the way it is where I live. The way I see things is I have two options - get the G2 now or wait for the M8, hoping it won't be THAT expensive

Why does galaxy s4 sucks ? Although I do agree the design is same and somewhat boring especially when upgrading from s3 but its a practical design. For me, its best choice among the given choices, especially if you can get the qualcomm version, as its google play device so you have option to seamlessly put aosp roms. That negates the N5 advantage as it is..
For LG G2 and Nexus 5, you have limitation of fixed storage, do remember on 16GB devices you get only about 11GB of usable space. Also camera and battery on nexus 5 will be a downgrade for you coming from s3. HTC one although awesome design but has ultrapixel camera which didn't do very well and again a restricted memory.

The only reason I'm not sure I want the S4 is that it's deemed even more fragile than the S3. It's slower chipset is also a bit of a disadvantage.
I can get the qualcomm version, so yes - vanilla OS is possible.
As for the G2 - it's awesome and I don't think storage will be that much of an issue. The HTC one is also an option, but the same as S4 - slower chiset and I hera the camera just sucks, but I have a DSLR and a mirrorless camera so I'm not going to expect much from a phone camera anyway. I'm using the iphone 5 now and while typing on it is a real pain, the size is really nice refresh fromthe huge slate the S3 was. I really miss the huge screen though.
The whole thing is quite complicated, as my wife has the RAZR I, but wants an Iphone, so I got one to test it out while waiting for my next android, and I actually like it a lot but the battery is basically on par with the S3, but the screen.... it's so small. It's superior when it comes to actally using it as a phone.
Which one of these handsets is most durable when dropped? I think the g2 would have a bad time due to edge to edge design.

iphone 5s for durability.
For me:
1-Note 3
2-Sony Z2
3-Iphone 5s
4-S4
This year I am leaving my S3 also and this is the list of devices I am targeting of buying from !!
I will get one of these bad boys --->
1. Note 3 (appealing in every aspect)
2. HTC ONE 2014 (has microSD card support)
3. Xperia Z2 (Sony really stepping up their game)
4. iPhone 6 (a really good phone for basic telephony)

I recommend nexus & S4 from the point of view of a good battery and high specs and features, Also the nexus 5 has good feature which is wireless charging, The S4 has higher features than the nexus as usual samsung strikes with stunning technology.

I am getting a new phone in two months. Got an S3 now. This is my top choices :
1. Note 3
2. Xperia Z2
3 HTC one (2014)
4. S5
Very difficult to choose
I'm between n5 s4 and g2 for now...

i know a few people with S4's, both versions. They both completely suck. In all honesty, the design isnt that bad, it looks very similar to the s3 but the feeling is alot better. However, Samsungs OS skin just down right fails. The ui is laggy, and please dont say theres no lag. i dont know how people dont notice this crap. The UI lags. Maybe the galaxy s4 google play edition, is a viable option.
There is literally nothing that the S4 has over its competitors. If you compare it to the HTC one (2013), then really, the One beats it hands down. You really dont need crap like the air wave.
SGH-m819n galaxy mega running the megafire v5 rom. Ive had two people literally sell their note3 after seeing how big and fast my phone is. 60 dollar truly unlimited unthrottled LTE data on tmobiles network though metro is a pretty nice perk, too.
Let me say this first, I have used the iPhone 3GS, 4, before I hopped on the Android bandwagon. I have been very happy using samsung phones since then (S II, HTC One X, S III, HTC One), but the S4 and the Note 3 made me want to switch back to the iPhone because of it's unbearable lag. So when the S5 was announced, I had already made up my mind about going back to the Apple ecosystem. Then I tried my wife's Galaxy S5 and let me tell you, this is THE smoothest Android phone I have ever used (not including nexus of course, because I imagine it to run smooth because it runs stock android). The new touch wiz skin on this phone is SEXY. I'm glad I didn't jump the ship so soon!!!

Both device have lag bumps here and there out of the box lol
Some carriers worse then others , It really comes down to bloat.
My Bro picked up GN3 last week its a great device but my GS5 shows slightly smoother performance....at least in are side by side testing.
Could it be snap801 adding the edge hmm maybe. we can rule out ram being the reason lol
Also,
Radio is stronger in GS5

the sd 801 is basically an overclocked 800. Every other device the 801 is clocked at 2.3ghz same as all the 800's. And you then must be the rare bird because everyone has said the note 3 was the first Galaxy phone with TW that launched with no lag. And you do hear a lot of people complaining about lag on the S5. I mean if it's working for you then great, it's just about everyone else sees it the opposite way.

Both device are grade A equal in my book....hmm Well GS5 has better radio & less wake lag , other then that pretty equal.
Also adding:
I'm a big Note fan!
I got hooked on GN2 loved it to death finding GN3 not to be worthy upgrade for a couple reasons.....one of them being build quality so I took the chance on LG G2.
LG G2 was....was at top of the mountain before 4.4 kitkat update.
After update battery life & performance took a dump so it was time for new device
GN3 or GS5.
I choose GS5 because of water resistance lol
When GN4 becomes available I will own one

my bad it was the other guy who mentioned s5 was lag free or hinted that way. About the home button, I think that was the initial stock, because I know 7 people with note 3 and all of us have no button issues. Buttons are rock solid, no wiggle at all. Haven't heard the button issues since launch. To bad you skipped the note3, it's the best phone I've ever owned and the best I've ever used. I've played around with the LG g2, htc one, s3, note 2, LG g flex plus the ones I've owned.
To see Lag on note 3 & S4:
1. Open Phone app:
2. Press the top right contacts buttons
3. Press the top left keypad button
4. swtich back and fourth. you will see the lag.
Compare the same on a GS5. Smooth as butter.
Yes the best
LOVE MY S5:good::good::good::good::good:
I'm actually selling mine after owning for only 3 days (rooted, SIM unlocked, and bootloader switched to TWRP).
Why? On alliancerom, I have had to do so much work to get it close to the CM experience I had on the S2, S3, and S4. Nothing can come close For example, I need a fast camera...and although the stock rom camera is fast, in the custom roms I tried, the camera in my experience was slow (tried 4 different cameras).
The S4 is actually quite respectable compared to the S5, especially if running CM or other rom.
Don't get me wrong about TouchWiz, on my Note 10.1 2014, I updated to latest KitKat update, which is Touchwiz, however in phone implementation, there just isn't enough customization. Yes I tried GravityBox, Xposed, and the lot, but it just wasn't the same.
Maybe I'll be back for the S5 Prime if it comes out...but my next might end up being the Asus PadFone X...we will see!

Im going to have to say that Samsung is the reason behind the bad and slow complicated development on the Galaxy S devices. If you take a loot at the HTC One development threads there plenty going on over there. Everything from plenty of custom roms to GPE roms to CM.
I just traded my HTC One M8 today for the Galaxy S5 due to me being disappointed in the camera on the HTC One M8.
Performance wise, I get hicups and lag every now and then when swping home screens and backing out of apps ecetra. With me having 2 kids and I take pictures allot so switching to the S5 was a plus on my end.
After being on S4 - M7 - Note 2 and Note 3, the S5 seems to have more lag then other devices.
If you want a "Smooth" "Lag Free" android experience then I recommend the HTC One M8. That phone had almost 0 lag at all. Samsung Touchwiz seems to always lag down for some reason.

The Phone app on the S4 & the contacts app are two separate apps. The Contact button is a hyperlink between the two. If you'll notice, the buttons change at the top also, except for the one which brings back the actual phone keypad. If you go looking through the complete app list in something like TiBu, you'll find both of them. One is like Phone.apk and the other is Dialer.apk or something.
On the S5, the two are one and the same. This way the S5 doesn't have to call a new app into memory just to access the contacts.
That all being aside, I have to say that this version of TW is probably the best looking TW I have ever seen. I love the flat color and the simple flat UI design. Apple started it, but Samsung definitely outdid themselves this time around. I think the only thing I'll be doing this go-round is rooting the phone.. although T-Mobile doesn't like giving out OTAs to rooted devices... might need a way around that in the future. Everything else is great.
I was one of those looking forward to Verizon getting the actual Z3 and was disappointed when that didn't really happen. Couple months ago went with the Nexus 6, dealt with the preorder nightmare for weeks before getting one. Liked it a lot, liked lollipop, but didn't love it. Decided to sell mine and try out the Z3v due to the amazing reviews. WOW, I wish I went with this in the beginning. Better camera, more manageable size, I'm assuming better battery.
Very pleased with this phone, can't wait for the next Xperia on Verizon.
Any great tricks I should know?
I did the exact opposite. Got the Z3 didnt really care for it much. Bought a Nexus 6 and haven't looked back. Absolutely love it!!

Same here! I don't see it happening though. I'm also worried it will be forever before we see Lollipop due to Verizon's history with releases.
However, even coming from the Nexus and losing Lollipop I don't mind.
I went from my Z3, tried the Nexus 6 for a few days, then went back to my Z3 and couldn't be happier. I'm a fan of Nexus devices (had all of them since the Nexus S), but I just love my Z3 too much. From the size, super bright screen which kills the N6 or any other phone, front speakers, camera button, battery life is nuts, overall feel and it's waterproof is all a plus over the N6 for me.

I have been a huge nexus fan myself. I made the jump from the Nexus 4 to this. I love it. The audio quality is great with headphones. I tried droid turbo note4 then settled on this. Small form factor for the win. Honestly feels like a slightly larger snappier nexus4.

One of the best phones I have had thus far, battery life is just insane.
Now if we could get root and some custom ROMs I would be elated. :good:

Are you sure this is for the Z3v, the Verizon variant? D6708?

The guy who posted this doesn't have our version of phone if you check his profile. Please don't take this post too seriously until someone posts evidence of the Sony Xperia Z3v with this mod. If I have time tomorrow I will try to get some more info unless someone beats me to it.
That's what I thought. There's no way our phones will get root anytime soon, especially not before lollipop.
@brucelee @GigaSPX . sorry lads. you're right. not confirmed.
Hello everyone I have a question that I'd like opinions on if possible. I had a z5 compact and sold it because I wanted to try a nexus 5x. I loved the smoothness of stock Android but the size was just ridiculous for a 5.2" screen. So I gave the phone to my 14yo son who needed a phone after his Iphone 6 was acting up. I really miss the z5c and I'm using an old z3c right now. so I was all set to purchase the US model(even though no fingerprint reader) I didn't think it worked great anyway..but here's the thing, I know that htc, lg, and Samsung are coming within weeks. With my main criteria ease of use with one hand, the lg may be too big right of the bat. My hangup with Samsung is that the s6 I had, had terrible battery life and the lag because of TouchWiz. HTC has me intrigued but not sure about sense UI. So should I wait to see the actual phones when they arrive or is the z5c still a good contender? Part of me wants to just buy the z5c and wait for Marshmallow but part is still getting curious about the s7, even though my hunch is that the same old Samsung problems will be there,, or the m10 to see what it has going.. You know there is something to be said for having the latest hardware and software. What do you think?

stay with z3c and wait for snapdragons 820 devices
I think you should wait for a future compact phone.
The Z3C has solid battery life and performance. 720p screen and small, like the Z5.
Since the Z3C uses x86 Android and the Z5 uses x64 Android, you'll probably have more free RAM because both devices have 2GB of RAM. (Same happened between Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X).
My case: the best scenario for me is a Nexus device with [Moto_X/Z3C/Z5C/iPhone] size/resolution. The last one was the Galaxy Nexus (because Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were too width for my hand).
I didn't buy a Z3C (I'm coming from a Nexus 5) because the price was near the Z5 Compact..It was like...400€ vs 550€ at that time.
If the 6.0 serving us well, then Z5c still a recommended choice but who knows.... we're still waiting......

Yes. Ideally it would be an easier decision if 6.0 were indeed out.. But...

In my case, Marshmallow will decide if I keep that Z5 I bought in October and is currently gathering dust... or if I sell it and buy a different brand.
The current firmware (Lollipop) is awful. My reccomendation: If Sony can get its sh*t together and release a proper 6.0 firmware , the Z5c is probably a good choice (price should drop when the Z6c is out)... but if Sony's iteration of Marshmallow firmware is as bad as Lollipop is on the Z5, STAY AWAY from Sony.
Back in October, I had to choose between a Z5, a Moto X Pure and a Nexus 6P. I finally got the Z5, and I've regretted that choice every single day since. I don't blame the phone though (hardware), but I blame the firmware quality and Sony who doesn't seem to care at all (Certains bugs were known and reported back in October. They're still present. That says a lot)
Wait for Marshmallow... then make a choice

It must be better, I didn't see one Marshmallow which is worse than Lollipop but I have no idea how great of MM on our Z5c. Since the Z5c still worth some money, if MM turn out not reach my expectation probably I will sell it out.
Overall 6.0 is good at battery and improved memory management, pretty sure issues like lagging and battery draining been fixed. The only problem is the camera.

There are very very few phones that can provide both one-hand-operating ability (or portability) and the real experience of a flagship if I don't consider Sony's compact phones. I may think that iphone 5s can do, but its battery life just sucked.
Well, you can take a look at z3c, that is able to flash to CyanogenMod and then get mostly the same experience with stock Android or even better, and as well as better battery life than z5c
I'm actually using the z3c now. There are things about the build quality that I like better in the z5c though. I don't flash or rom because.. Well I just don't know how and I don't think I really want to. Apple is coming out with with a 4" updated 5s on the 15th of March so this is yet another option but it IS an iPhone lol. Btw, thanks for the replies guys. Very helpful
