Hello everyone,
Can someone please tell me how to undelete pictures on this device. Im sure I only chose to delete one camera folder but they all deleted!
I have not rooted my phone and prefer not to unless it can be done without adding to knox counter. I have also turned off data so that the chances of file overwriting from now is limited.
I have activated developer mode with USB debugging but the MTP or PTP options will not mount either internal or external memory to Windows or Mac for me to do try recover tools.
Please please can someone help. The pictures are very important to me.

This only works if I had deleted the items after installation. Any other ideas?
Is there a way to root without knox or counter trip on 850F ?
Please help!:crying:
I Don't know about any such tools but if the pictures are really that important then do not worry about knox, this phone already has a low resale value so a tripped knox wont have an impact on anything but the warranty (if you still have it) whenever you plan to get rid of it just flash stock firmware and sell it. I have the at&t version which is (probably will always be) unrootable and i am looking to exchange it with a F model

Thanks, I was thinking the same ..I only worry that the phone doesn't develop a hardware fault because this phone is hard to take apart!
Ok so once I have rooted is there any better ROM than the stock which still gives clear call quality. I also want all the hardware features to work including finger print and airtouch; and also I like the power saving software and screen-mirroring to work. Is there a reliable better rom than stock for this?
if you do decide to root

Thanks for the tip. I just looked at Wondershare Recovery and it says their standard 1-click-root will not void the warranty since its a temporary superuser access. They claim this but would that not still trip the knox counter?

So, dear Experts,
Is Someone know a way to UNroot manually (whitout PC, only inside the phone)?
The reason for this, is to fill a hole for my security, if everything would go wrong in the future (for example: if I lose pc connection cause of faulty microUSB port, but still have xrecovery... 'cause AFAIK no cable - no update, so thus a way to roll everything back to factory using only the phone and SD.)
But solutions for rolling back to Factory state (more exactly to a state having Warranty) WITHOUT cable/PC, are also welcome. I mean no root, no xrecovery (or remove these), so nothing that would compromise warranty.
Thanx in advance!
/OPs delete this if it's... misplaced, whatever/
First of all i hope you did a back up of the SE stock rom using xrecovery before you installed the custom rom.
You can use xrecovery to roll back to the SE stock rom
but you cant unroot your phone without a pc.
you always need the pc to root and unroot your phone. (correct me if i am wrong)
Your warranty still exists even if you have a rooted phone. The rooting of a device is legal now so dont worry...
But if you stiil want to unroot just delete the /system/app/superuser.apk and the /system/bin/su and you lose your root...
Regards.
Else Reset all Data in Phone via settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Hope this does the job

Maybe you live in the right country, but as I know it depends on country and provider, and I don't know any servicing law modifications like this here...

It seems too easy to believe... you mean, I restore with xrecovery, than do a factory reset, and it's done? like it deletes root and all software modifications?
Restore to se software using xrecovery
Then delete superuser.apk from /system/app
Then xrecovery.tar from /system/bin
Then remove su from /system/bin
Then uninstall any root programs
You can do factory reset just in case
And you should be good to go
atleast in my country they don't care or understand about rooting and stuff (being nokia dominated)
So they just repair without looking
I had my battery replaced
Although they reflash the firmware >.<

If your country dont have any specific law about rooting, then the law that exists is the law of the country where is the company who creates the os (google=usa), so you are ok...
But afaik the service points dont care if your device is rooted or not, when i send mine i have owains 2.2 and they just fix the problem and i get it back w/o to ask me to pay or something...
ps: ofcourse they update my phone to the last se fw...

I wanna believe you, but two moderators sad in one of my country's (unofficial) SE forum, that:
1. since SE opened the bootloader, it's under your warranty to root.
2. and the other sad: yeah, but not for X10 Mini/Pro...
So what's the truth?
UPDATE:
I've read some articles about this, so the global and the regional news are quite different.
1. So the global news are: SE (and SE first! thumbs up!) decided to open the bootloader for his android OS phones which are going to be released in 2011!! So NO, X10, X10 Mini/Pro and X8 won't be released with open bootloader.
That means rooting these "older" phones is still above warranty
2. These news effect every region, but mostly for unlocked phones... So the truth is the PROVIDERS can still modificate their warranties, like closing the bootloader and make you lose your warranty after opening it at home...
But in the end for me what's only count: I have to remove every root modifications from my phone, before bring it to service.
Anyway thanks for the instructions, I hope it helped some others as well.
I've got two questions,
Since I used a CWM kernal and made a backup of my 2.3.3 rom before I put back on the original kernal can I STILL put CWM back on and then flash and restore from that backup? It's still on the SD card.
Secondly, how do you get rid of the custom binary download counter, the one that shows up when you put the S2 into download mode. I'm just worried that Samsung would refuse service or a store would refuse to take it back plus when I need to return the phone I'd like to have it in as factory condition as possible; is there a way to reset that counter?

1. Yeah as long as you have the backup on your sdcard you can always restore it with CMW
2. You can reset the counter with a usb jig. You can find one from Ebay for example. Just search for a "Samsung Galaxy S II usb jig". This will reset the counter but there is a secondary counter that's counting the times you've used the jig, and there is currently no way to reset that counter that I know of.
I have put on a lot of custom roms and used the usb jib method and too be honest I would be very surprised if a repair happened samsung would't warrant it.
Until that happens and hopefully it won't then no one will really be able to know.

Is this true? I heard about this rumour several weeks ago here at XDA but no-one could really find or confirm this counter at that time. Could you please tell me where this has been confirmed?
Otherwise there is an obvious risk that this very weak rumour starts to become true due to misunderstanding.

Why put a custom rom counter on a phone if not to inform service that a custom rom has been installed and therefore warranty is void . Absolutely no other point for the counter .

Hey Guyz,
New to XDA-Developers platform, just wanted to get your help on rooting Xperia Z2.
I want to mirror my xperia z2 on my laptop. All the applications around need rooted phone to perform this action. Although some are working with USB cable option, but not working at my side either.
I have already downloaded all the necessary tools for rooting, the problem am facing is selection of my firmware
My Phone Software Version is 1278-4770_23.0.1.A.0.167
I want to remain on my 4.4.4 version of kitkat and root as well, till now i have learned that my software version supports German Unbranded FTF file for root. Can anyone provide me that file or some link.
Accept my Thanks and Wishes in Advance
Regards
There are many ways to obtain root access with the xperia Z2
Now keep in mind this:
There is a easy way and a hard way
The easy way voids your warrenty permanently and the hardway alows your warrenty to be restored
Think about this decision and pick one
(ill guide you through it)

I would definitely NOT say downgrading is a very hard way, that's just outright over exaggeration.
There is no easy way or hard way, only a quick way which voids your warranty and there is a longer way that won't void. The longer way takes about an hour if you download all the files previously.

Take note that you CANT get any repairs from sony even if you want to pay, check that you are satisifed with your device aka no defects
Note that you lose some xperia functions, X-Reality, SuperVivid and some Playstation and sony apps dont work from my testing
Now lets get started
You will need this tool for unlocking your bootloader and flashing a recovery
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
You will need this tool for installing the fastboot/flashmode/Z2 drivers for Z2
https://www.google.co.uk/url?q=http...KA9T2g&usg=AFQjCNEKiBoUgTCpZhx3dv1GJigiYpH2WQ
After unlocking your bootloader flash this boot.img to your device using flashtool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56540642&postcount=54
Next you will need to download supersu
http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
You can use twrp to flash this which will root your device
If you need help more than i have explained here then ask
Concider the losses from void warrenty and the few lost services
Do not use twrp to flash anything from another device, mods yes but anything more than just a mod is NO

It blows my mind that people elect to destroy their drm keys when keeping them takes an extra 10 minutes. It is safer to do and can always revert back to stock if your phone screws up.
Although you have been told that on 4.4.4 you lose warranty, camera quality, ps4 remote play, all the xperia unique apps like lounge. How do you know what you lose on lollipop?
Each to there own, I know I've been stung by this is the past so I would never destroy my drm keys again.

actually funny enough I've learned that the lack of warranty or Xperia features phases none on some people just because they have a well working unit and most likely wont need a warrenty repair or replace
i kept my TA due to the fact i had 4 defective units in a row however with my Xperia S i had no need for them and similar with my current Z2
whats your opinion on this

To be honest i think it would be better to downgrade even if its just for the sake of taking a backup of your TA partition. i myself will be going stock lollipop once official CM or PA ROMs roll out, but i would still like to have a way to get back my warranty just in case its needed. currently neither rooted nor UL BL.

Hello I followed a tutorial on the forums to update my Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) the tuorial did say all data would remain intact, due to my stupidity I didn't make a backup of my phone. After the update had completed all my data had been wiped.
I've basically lost everything and I have only myself to blame. I have been searching google and the xda forums since yesterday but can't find an answer to my question.
I have downloaded a couple of recovery software programs which prompt me to root my phone which I'm reluctant to-do as I don't want to trip knox if it's not going to help in recovering any data.
I tried the diskdigger app and that recovered 105 photos which gave me a little bit of hope that maybe rooting the device will recovery almost everything I lost.
My question is what software would the experts here recommend to use as I'm reluctant in purchasing a license unless it's going to help with recovering my data and what are the realistic chances that rooting the device will allow more data recovery.
I have learned my lesson backup all phone data before following any xda tutorial. I would also like to apologise if something similar has been posted before as my search on XDA did not bring up any links to the type of situation I'm in.
Thanks in advance for helping out if possible.
You can try this software http://www.gihosoft.com/android-data-recovery-free.html you can try the free version first. And yes root is a must to have access to certain directories on your device. But be prepared there is a good chance your data is lost for good.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Don't bother. The chances of getting the stuff back is slim to none. As it formated the partition. You may get a few things but won't be worth tripping Knox and losing your warranty. Unless you have an sdcard never trust device storage to keep things safe.

There's 50 percent chance you can get your data back after you root your phone and use some recovery tool, but you will lose your warranty and trip knox, depends on whether your data worth it.
Besides, make a backup with Google Drive/Google Photos next time.

I do have some important data if recovered would make my life a lot easy. I am not really concerned about warranty I've never had to get a mobile phone repaired.
I'm just reluctant on tripping knox as their is no guarantee that the recovered data will not be corrupt that's why I'm waiting for a few more replies to see if anyone has had success recovering 100% functional data and what software they used.
Thanks for the help though.
Hello, did you find a way for recovering the files?
Im exactly like this now, the only difference is that i haven't root yet, but to use DiskJagger i need to do it, so im so confused...
My daughters friend just got back from a week long school trip. She went to check her photos and they were all gone. Somehow they were deleted.
She has a Samsung Galaxy S7 sm-G930P phone. Everything I have tried, and read about says this phone cannot be rooted. Is there a way to do a data recovery without rooting? Or would Sprint be able to help recover deleted files or at least root it so we can run testdisk or some other application.
Her firmware is R16NW.G930PVPS7CRH2
If there is a way to root this phone, please let me know. I haven't found any options that work with it.
Thanks.

There is no root due to the bootloader being locked down and no there is no way to unlock the bootloader.
Those pictures are most likely gone. Which should not be the case as every Samsung has the auto backup feature enabled by default.

Thanks, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. She has the backup turned on, but for some reason the photos are not checked, so I'm guessing it's only backing up the system files.
Thank you.
